I live in Florida, though my family, friends and I have all voted, we haven't much hope. Our Rep Governor and legislature has done everything possible to repress voting. Cut the days down from 14 to 8, which eliminates a lot of people who work 2 jobs and/or 6 days a week. Made rules more restrictive, turned away people naturalized citizens who have all their necessary papers so that they have to go back to polls more than once. Hired a fraudulant company to register people and told them they only registered Republicans (they got arrested but not soon enough). Wasted lots of taxpayers money investigating voter fraud, which was miniscule last voting cycle. They have added so many state amendments people just give up in despair. The Rep legislature have made these amendments so hard to understand. For instance one is titled Freedom of Religion. Well, of course everyone wants to vote yes on that, but what it actually does is approve tax dollars to support church affliated private schools. These schools curriculum is not state accredited. That's just one amendment, fortunately the word has gotten out, just vote no to all amendments, but of course that falls on deaf tea party ears. It was a miracle that this state voted Obama in 4 years ago, there's so little hope this year, the Romney political ads that have been rated pants on fire lies are still playing 20 times a day and the Governor has said no to keepig the polls open timorrow despite thousands of requests. I live in state capitol and Gov Scott is reviled here, but we've got him for quite sime time to come. Romney does show some good sense, he's keeping Scott as far away from his rallies as possible. The other swing states better come through, cause Florida's populace is pretty sewed up in Romney fantasy.

There aren't that many men who are referred to as gorgeous, but Adam Lambert has to be at the top of that list. The bride reminds me of Goldie Hawn when she was young. Can't wait to see the vids from his performance tonight in Napa Valley. After seeing so much on the news about the destruction of the hurricane here in NJ(fortunately I just had to endure a two day power outage,it will be good to just sit back and enjoy Adam and his performance at this concert.

I'm happy that your friends and relatives who work two jobs or 6 days a week actually have jobs and were able to vote in spite of that. I can remember a time not too long ago where the populace voted on "the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November." One day. It was called Election Day. If you were sick, there was snow up to your ass, you couldn't find your keys, you forgot it was that day or a tree fell on your head - you didn't vote. You shouldn't gripe that you only have 8 days to choose from to vote, you should get down on your knees and thank our Military that keep you free to vote. I guess I'm just an old fogey, but I'll be voting on election day again this year as I have been since I turned 21 and voted the first time. My 18 and over grandchildren vote on that day too. I think it's a family tradition like celebrating Thanksgiving on the 4th Thursday in November and Christmas on the 25th of December. I do hope that when you did pick one of those 8 days to vote you wore your oval "I Voted" sticker proudly on your chest because it might have reminded someone who saw it to vote too. I know it would have made a soldier stand a little taller when it was noticed.

ReplyDeleteJust take a break, I do frequently when I get really pi**ed with idiotic crap, which seems to be happening more frequently of late.
The election makes us all so touchy because it's so important and we, the people, have so little say in who gets elected. Our electoral system needs a overhaul and SuperPacs need to be buried under toxic waste.
You can't leave now...we've just bonded!!! Sassy is my favorite form of expression! <3 U
Wouldn't you think since we've been special guests at the wedding we could at least know the happy couple's names?.....JAK

ReplyDelete@12:51 I don't live in Florida but I'm sorry that your voting days have been cut back from 14 to 8. I'm happy that your friends and relatives who work two jobs or 6 days a week actually have jobs and were able to vote in spite of that. I can remember a time not too long ago where the populace voted on "the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November." One day. It was called Election Day. If you were sick, there was snow up to your ass, you couldn't find your keys, you forgot it was that day or a tree fell on your head - you didn't vote. You shouldn't gripe that you only have 8 days to choose from to vote, you should get down on your knees and thank our Military that keep you free to vote. I guess I'm just an old fogey, but I'll be voting on election day again this year as I have been since I turned 21 and voted the first time. My 18 and over grandchildren vote on that day too. I think it's a family tradition like celebrating Thanksgiving on the 4th Thursday in November and Christmas on the 25th of December. I do hope that when you did pick one of those 8 days to vote you wore your oval "I Voted" sticker proudly on your chest because it might have reminded someone who saw it to vote too. I know it would have made a soldier stand a little taller when it was noticed.

@ MFG My daughter and I voted together on her day off work, we wore our stickers proudly and had several people say casually "oh, yeah, I guess I should vote." We said "Please do, it's really important!" I don't get it, don't people care who is president? Is it too much effort? Thank God we have early and absentee voting, there is no excuse not to vote. I stood in line with my walker, body all achin and wracked with pain, but you couldn't have shoved me out of that line with a bulldozer!

The root of all evil in this world is religion (ALL religions). It's the cause of all conflicts, wars, etc. Why do people still need to congregate every week to hear another person (a human being like them I might add) tell them how to behave, think and vote? Just don't get it at all. Why can't people just think for themselves?
