GLASGOW REVIEW: The Scotsman

Another great Glasgow review this time from Scotland's national newspaper, The Scotsman, reported by Fiona Shepherd.
"Out and proud where Mercury was chary about his sexuality, Lambert is a natural showman who appears undaunted about stepping into such towering shoes. Frankly, Queen are lucky to have him."

Glasgow Evening Times: "Letter To The Editor" from very happy Queen fan

A very nice "Letter To The Editor" in Glasgow's Evening Times newspaper:

Happy Queen fan's thanks to Evening Times

THANK you so much for the Queen review in the Evening Times.

I've been a Queen fan for most of my life and I've been a fan of Adam Lambert. I have followed him since American Idol. Ever since AI it has been obvious that Adam is the natural successor to Freddie and that they would get together was pretty inevitable. It's so good seeing Brian and Roger so happy and able to do what they are meant to do after that part of their careers was cut short so abruptly. They had to wait a long time to find him because Freddie was irreplaceable.

Of course filling Freddie's shoes is not a career in itself, fantastic though that is and part of the reason that it works so well and doesn't fall into the realms of imitation is that Adam is his own man and has his own style which fortunately matches and complements Queen and their music brilliantly.

Although this is simply a rehash of the Billboard exclusive on Adam signing with Warner Bros. Records (repetition of news stories is a redundancy we try to keep to a minimum), the photo chosen (above) to accompany the story on fuse.tv is just so stunning that I couldn't resist to include this piece on the blog.  And, anyway, it's a nice summary put together by fuse contributor Hilary Hughes and is also the featured news story on their home page (as of the time of this writing).

"Queen + Adam Lambert – SSE Hydro, Glasgow – 14/01/15"

NOTE:  I usually try to post just small section of the review/article, but it was very hard to narrow this down to a FEW  key paragraphs... There is MUCH more to this excellent article/review so I would encourage everyone to read the rest at the link posted at the bottom of the page...

EXCERPTS:

"So first let me start off by saying I’m not a Queen fan. Or at least, I didn’t think I was until I found myself whisky in hand, drunkenly repeating “just listen to him” whilst showing some friends the Queen and Adam Lambert Big Ben show on BBC iPlayer after returning from a night out."

"On Wednesday I saw Queen live...."

"The curtain dropped and the band was in full flow, sounding powerful and rather special. It was Adam Lambert who was immediately commanding your attention however, in his full leather outfit and round mirrored glasses......"

"Never trying to sound like Freddie Mercury, obvious comparisons were no doubt being made all around the room as we watched this performance. We were perhaps five songs in when he started walking to the end of the catwalk which ran through the crowd. Adam started by saying hello to Glasgow. Then, and I paraphrase slightly delivered the following, “I know it’s early in the night but thank you for accepting me. It as an honour to play each night with the rock and roll legends behind me. I hope tonight reminds you of the one and only Freddie Mercury and we celebrate his song writing and life. Tonight is a celebration.” He said it with such humility, it was obvious he meant it, and the crowd provided the response he deserved."

"By the time ‘Killer Queen’ was played I decided I was a little bit in love with Adam Lambert. His show-boating, flamboyance, wicked humour, playing to the camera, the crowd, or even sometimes to himself was a joy to watch." ......."He sung Freddie’s lyrics as if they were his own, adding his own personality with subtle runs and licks, never once trying to imitate or do karaoke."

"The show was billed as Queen + Adam Lambert, not simply Queen (with a new singer). The reason was obvious from almost as soon as the curtain dropped; Adam Lambert is every much a superstar and accomplished frontman in his own right and deserves the billing. What a show this was, and Adam hasn’t replaced Freddie (nobody could) Yes many parallels can be made, such as his immense vocal range, the over-the-top flamboyance and wit, and that he is every bit the one in a billion find for May and Taylor that Freddie was. Lambert is unique, can sing every note, brings his own personality and charisma, and frankly steals the show. The fresh vigour that he has injected to the performances comes across in spades from the band; it is clear that all on that stage love performing together."

"Queen always had a frontman, never just a singer. They’ve always needed that larger than life personality up front. It’s called a “frontman” for a reason, and Adam Lambert is every bit the frontman."

Adam Lambert’s 8 Best Songs

Filed Under () by Adam Lambert on

Posted at : Friday, January 16, 2015

The Glam Nation was rocked this week with the confirmation of Adam Lambert‘s new label deal (on Warner Bros. Records) and subsequent Max Martin-helmed album.
His first LP since 2012′s Trespassing is expected to drop this summer, with the lead single arriving sometime in April. This news had long been rumored, but for Glamberts, it was finally a sign of his long-awaited pop comeback.
To celebrate, Popdust has put together a list of the high-octane performer’s Top 7 Best Songs. Sure, he only has two major-label albums from which to pull (including 2009′s eclectic For Your Entertainment bow), but his groovy blend of house music, pop and rock is unmatched. And that voice, well, that speaks (profoundly) for itself.
For the sake of this list, we’re focusing strictly on his post-American Idol releases.
Let’s get to it:
8. Sleepwalker (For Your Entertainment, 2009)
As a more emotional moment on his debut record, Lambert showcased his vulnerability in a refreshing way. The track itself mixes choral chants, with a rhythmic base, and a blistering melody. We all know he can reach the stratosphere (and beyond) with that voice, but his unyielding restraint here is a testament to his God-given range.
7. Naked Love (Trespassing, 2012)
Probably the most fun, upbeat on this list, the feathery power anthem is Lambert’s fluffiest piece. Pop music doesn’t always have to save the world or address some revolutionary way of thinking: Lambert knows this and offers up a gripping, thumping three minutes of sweetness.
6. Outlaws of Love (Trespassing, 2012) Powerfully simple, Lambert has never quite sounded quite as accomplished (vocally), than right here. Stemmed from a very raw inspiration, he addresses the issues the LGBTQIA community faces on a daily basis. It’s an unfortunate struggle that continues to plague society, and Lambert’s portrayal of that gut-wrenching fight is breathtaking.
5. Sure Fire Winners (For Your Entertainment, 2009) This standout drips with sensuality, wrapped tightly in ’80s funk and a shower of Queen-ness. Perhaps his most genre-defying to-date, and coming off a far more “conservative” show like Idol, it was a welcome splash.
4. Whataya Want From Me (For Your Entertainment, 2009) This Pink co-penned track marked Lambert’s commercial viability in a way to hush all critics. It’s the kind of song that made the industry stand up and pay attention. While he hasn’t had a hit nearly as massive, it is easily his proudest accomplishment.
3. Soaked (For Your Entertainment, 2009) An orchestra-pinned intro set the tone for a remarkable entry in Lambert’s songbook. The music then pulls back, like a well-gardened onion, revealing a haunting piano-fused ballad. Lambert allowed the melody to guide him, ultimately opening up on a career-enlightening moment.
2. Trespassing (Trespassing, 2012)
Lambert took his already sturdy brand of pop to a whole new class. Still containing his signature vocal runs and oozing charisma, this foot-stomper was probably the most underrated track in all of music in 2012.
1. Fever (For Your Entertainment, 2009)
It’s the perfect storm: searing vocals, blazing sexuality, passion, grit, musical complexities. We’d be remiss if we didn’t have our fingers crossed for more tunes like this on Lambert’s next LP.

Watch Adam Lambert Get Nervous As He Recreates His ‘American Idol’ Audition

Filed Under () by Adam Lambert on

Posted at : Friday, January 16, 2015

Who knew that when Adam Lambert auditioned for “American Idol” in 2008 he would return to the show to sit behind the judges’ table?
Lambert filled in for Keith Urban on Thursday night, joining judges Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr., who pointed out that he can be kind of a jerk to the contestants. Had he no recollection of what it was like to audition in Season 8 of the show, which launched his career after he finished as a runner-up (behind Kris Allen)? Remember Simon, Adam?
The only way to remind Lambert of the pressure and fear of rejection was to put him in front of the judges once again. As Connick pushed him to give them the full Adam Lambert experience, he left and re-entered the room, telling them that he wasn’t “scurred,” just like he had said in 2008 to Randy Jackson. And as he sang Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” footage of his old audition floated in and out, matching up perfectly with the guy who became a star.
And, not for nothing, the current lead singer of Queen.

"Adam Lambert Guest Judges On American Idol: 7 Highlights"

EXCERPTS FROM THE ARTICLE (AND TWO OF THE MEMORABLE MOMENTS):

"Hot on the news that he signed a deal with Warner Bros. records and is planning to drop his third studio album this summer (with Max Martin at the helm and a single on the way this April — woo hoo!) , former finalist Adam Lambert turned up to the fourth round of auditions for American Idol in New York City in last night’s episode."

"Adam was filling in for an absent Keith Urban, and regular judges Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. welcomed the “Whataya Want From Me” singer with open arms. Upon his arrival, Lopez told Lambert with a smile, “Welcome to the other side of the table.” "

"As the first former contestant to return as a guest judge, Adam delivered some memorable moments for TV viewers and, most importantly, his loyal fans. We rounded up just a few of them below!"

Here are 2 of those "memorable moments": Read the rest of the article (linked below) to see the rest!

1. Adam stepped out in an an electric blue suit that perfectly matched his sky blue eyes.

"6. Watching Adam joke about how blunt his critiques have been was a wicked delight. “I’m a dick today,” he said, which was followed by a delightful montage of him rejecting contestants." [Video below]

From Lyndsey Parker, Yahoo Entertainment Editor: Guest Judge Adam Lambert Returns To American Idol "Looking Like A Grown Up Superstar"

Filed Under () by glitzylady on

Lyndsey Parker, Yahoo Entertainment Managing Editor, (and Adam Lambert super-fan) reviews American Idol New York Audition Episode, and Guest Judge Adam Lambert...

"For Your Entertainment: Adam Lambert Guest-Judges on 'Idol'"

A few EXCERPTS from the article:

"It was Throwback Thursday on American Idol this week, when the GREATEST CONTESTANT EVER TO COMPETE ON THE SHOW, from THE BEST SEASON EVER, returned and made history as the first alum to ever serve as a guest judge."

"Sorry for going crazy with the capslock there, but I’m talking about the Glamerican Idol himself, Mr. Adam Lambert — the man with better hair than Keith Urban, zingier one-liners than Harry Connick Jr., and some might even say a prettier face than Jennifer Lopez. So of course a regular old font just won’t do."

"Lately, Idol's producers have been harping on and on, longwindedly and sometimes unconvincingly, about how “American Idol creates stars.” But really, seeing Adam six years after his first Idol appearance, his old Hot Topic hoodie and Manic-Panicked combover swapped for a designer suit and subtle tone-on-tone highlights, drove that point home. In 2009, Adam walked into the audition room looking like some cute emo kid; in 2015, he returned looking like a grown-up superstar."

Cable Channel MUSIC CHOICE PLAY Rebroadcasts Adam's "THE F WORD" Episode On February 24th

Filed Under () by broddybounce on

Posted at : Friday, January 16, 2015

The F Word was a short-lived television series that aired on cable channel Music Choice in the summer of 2012 that focused on how fame affects various recording artists.  As you can see from the original print ad above, Adam was one of the artists selected to appear and was further honored with his episode being chosen as the series premiere.

Music Choice now has a sister channel called Music Choice Play and they are rebroadcasting the series (although, since the show is on a "new" channel, they're promoting it as if it's completely brand new) starting this Tuesday, January 20th, and every Tuesday thereafter through February.  However, oddly, in this run, Adam's episode is the last one of the series, airing Tuesday, February 24th.  Go figure.

Here's where it has been initially announced this week:

Here is Music Choice's (weak) page on the series, which also lists where you can find the channel Music Choice Play:

However, if you'd just like to watch (or rewatch) the piece now...

ANOTHER ARTICLE FROM BILLBOARD!!

"WARNER BROS. CEO CAMERON STRANG ON WHY HE SIGNED ADAM LAMBERT" by Shirley Halperin

"The potential is 'worldwide superstar,'" says the veteran executive of signing the 'American Idol' star."

LINK TO THE ARTICLE CEO OF WARNER BROS. MUSIC HERE: http://www.billboard.com/articles/6443482/warner-bros-ceo-cameron-strang-signing-adam-lambert

EXCERPTS from the much longer article/interview:

"When Direct Management Group's first started talking to Warner Bros. Records CEO Cameron Strang about possibly signing American Idol alum Adam Lambert, a new album seemed a far-off dream. The singer had just parted ways with RCA Records -- according to sources, the Sony label was encouraging him to record an all-covers record -- and the split left him looking for direction."

"What did you see in Adam as an artist?"

"First of all, his voice. We all feel that there's a great career there as an artist and as a singer. Maybe things hadn't lined up right for him historically, there's a lot of trial and error in our business, but we felt like he's really ready. He's already on a career path that has its bumps and ups and downs but we felt it was an opportunity for somebody who's really poised to have a great career."

"What's the potential here?"

"I think the potential is worldwide superstar". He has fans all over the world. He's he's got one of the great voices and he's coming into his own as a person and as a man. He more comfortable with himself and his artistic vision of himself and I think there's a confidence and a freedom that comes with having made more than one record."

Adam’s Back!

Filed Under () by Adam Lambert on

Posted at : Thursday, January 15, 2015

A familiar face — and voice — will be returning to Idol tonight when the indomitable Adam Lambert joins Jennifer and Harry for Brooklyn auditions. This isn’t Adam’s first time back (he joined Randy for a two-week “Boot Camp” in season XIII) but it does mark the first time a former Idol contestant has sat at the judges’ table. Not too shabby!

Adam’s done some other stuff, too, since his first “Bohemian Rhapsody” audition way back when...
— Recorded two Billboard-charting albums
— Landed a Grammy nomination for “Best Male Pop Vocal Performance” in 2011
— Toured with Brian May and the rest of Queen in 2014
— Had his voice described as “like a siren” by Pharrell Williams

Basically, the dude’s awesome. Tune in to FOX at 8/7c to catch up with Adam and watch him critique the next generation of Idol hopefuls!
