Six things you may not know about Adam Lambert

1. Lambert's female following started early. A group of Mormon girls in the choir with Lambert at Mt. Carmel High so idolized him, they were like a virtual harem. Yet while he was the star of chorus and drama, Lambert was not a very good math student. "Adam wasn't born with the math gene," his father, Eber Lambert, said.

2. Between musical theater jobs in 2003, Lambert worked at a cosmetics counter in an L.A. department store. His makeup and people skills were so admired, the cosmetics company offered him a $50,000-a-year job as a cosmetics demonstrator/trainer, but he turned it down to follow his performance dreams. A year later, he hit a career low when his father declined to lend him money to record an album and they had a brief falling-out. He eventually found work as a blond-haired football player in the execrable "Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical" in Lake Tahoe. The show was so bad, Lambert wouldn't let anyone in his family come see it.

3. When Lambert called his father to say he was quitting the musical "Wicked" to take part in "American Idol" last year, his father was shocked. He'd never heard of the Fox series and couldn't understand why his son would quit his job "to go on a game show."

4. Lambert is known for his rich vocabulary and articulate interviews, even though he never attended college. His father attributes Adam's speaking skills to being a voracious reader (particularly during the "Idol" tour) and his "attraction to people he can have good conversations with."

5. To give back to the public schools where he first trained in voice and theater, Lambert created a charity through donorschoose.org that has raised more than $315,000 to date for school arts programs.

6. When his hairstylist shaved clean a three-inch square of hair on one side of Lambert's head last month ("it was air-conditioning because some of these cities' concert halls are really hot"), the resulting fan furor (dubbed "Hairgate") was written up on the Web sites for People magazine and E and MTV networks. Relax, everyone; the hair has since grown back.

The 1st 2 I didn't know, the rest I know. What really intrigues me is, Adam turning down $50G to work for a cosmetics company to pursue what he really loves to do!... he sure knows what he wants in life!!! Good for you Adam!

Wow! Adam already had a Harem!... but now it's just in a way bigger scale!... LOL ( all over the world! )

You must read this whole article. This by far is the best article I have ever read. Thanks to 24/7 and this man for the thoughtfulness of this piece. Adam is so loved by his fans and that fan base is just growing leap and bounds

I didn't know #2 about him turning down the job for American Idol. wow....

50,000 is a lot for today's market. so it was definitely a gamble for Adam. Glad it worked out...

Great article indeed! Read the whole article from the source n glad to learn that Mom is engaged as Adam's estate manager!! n bro Neil as tour production asst.

so I guess we, fans need not worry about Adam's financial standing (as fans earlier posted in other threads on this site) or whether he is being mishandled etc. etc. coz Mom n brother are also involved in this business!

Bravo to the Lamberts!!!!

wow the 50,000 just shows how personable his is. And i find it kind of funny that his dad never had heard of idol. haha where has he been? :) but yes very good article and i learned some stuff. i always like learning new things about him. so many times people ask the same questions

Adam was making a tidy amount doing Wicked, so that was a big gamble for him.

Yeah it's strange that Eber has never of idol. I guess he doesn't have FOX channel.

After reading #2, the whole concept of a make up line doesn't seem that far off the mark. Not saying that I didn't think he should before, but obviously besides stage/theatre make up, he's had experience with every day looks.

If and when he starts a line, I'm more sure now then ever that he'd take an active role in it.

So interesting to hear new info, especially #1,2,3.I think Eber worked as an electrical engineer[as was my husband] and they are very methodical and math oriented. Laughed when Eber said Adam didn't inherit the math gene. I didn't either! Also it was pretty brave of Adam to turn down $50k per yr. to pursue his dream. I'm also glad that mom and Neil are working close with Adam. Don't know if his mom is involved with professional finance, think it's more with his personal home rental, lifestyle, fanclub things, but really don't know. On another thread I was concerned with him being protected with record contracts, ownership of his written songs, catalogues, videos, etc. Many artists that don't pay attention and read the fine print and don't get a timely accurate accounting can be ruined and get in deep trouble with the IRS. Hopefully he doesn't assume that all are as honorable as he is. Many attorneys, financial advisors have conflicting interests and charge exhorbitant fees. Hope he has trustworthy representation. funbunn40

My understanding is that Adam was in the LA touring company for Wicked and getting paid way better than 50K a year--in fact about double that. And he quit that production to audition for Idol. The cosmetic thing must have been back a few years. He clearly knows his make-up. I about dropped the other day when he mentioned YSL Touche Eclat, one of my favorite products!!!

I would actually be interested to know what AL was making for Wicked, just curious, Anon 11:17 - are you pretty sure of that? (and as for that other item from this great article about AL not getting "moved up" in Wicked because he was "old reliable" - how many times I have seen that happen in a work/career scenario... in my family, in my friendships, so many times - HATE THAT - it's like getting punished for a job well done... I totally have no problem believeing that this was the case with AL in Wicked).

Anyway, on a lighter note :) - @ZZ - YOU ARE KILLING ME FRIEND w/ that pic... but again, Deathy by Adam, what a way to go. And I have to repeat what I said on another thread about an Adommy lick - how adorable is it that Tommy's tongue is so dainty next to Adam's, ha ha... and I love how Tommy's hands are still in perfect bass guitar position during this lick...quite composed - I don't think I would be :)!!

Thanks Glambert4life for the link - gotta go get to that before Real Life kicks in... love her, smart and informed.

What adam made during Wicked is documented somewhere, but I'm thinking it was $2,000-2500 a week Adam memtioned the amount. It was giving him a decent living, but what he found is that was bored with the "sameness" every day and didn't think that was where he wanted his career. It's interesting now that he would once again e interested in the stage if it were the right part. Adam has made the right choices following his dream. He knows he has talent, so I'm glad he's going for it.

Great article. Would like to add that Adam has yet another link to the charity donorschoose just for the Glam tour. There is over $45,000 given --- that would be in addition to the first $315,000! Adam's fans can be very proud of their generosity.

Adam is so beautiful that reading about, hearing, seeing him reduces me to tears of love for him.

Anon 6:17, I have teared up many times looking at a picture or hearing him speak. His ability to touch all of us is amazing. I have gasped many times as well when a beautiful out of this world picture of adam has popped up on my screen. Adamluv

Eber has tweeted some information today refuting parts of this article. Can't believe everything you read here or elsewhere.

These are Eber's 3 tweets from a few minutes ago:

And overdraft fees. He easily holds the 2005 record for overdraft fees. Wamu loved him.

"Reply Retweet . NCT Factchek: Wouldve totally lent money for an album in 03,It was the rent/partying of the unmotivated unemployed I wasnt into subsidizing"

As a Mother I totally understand.
HA HA HA!

Maybe Adam was just seeing what all he could get away with. It's always worth a try. Good on Adam and Eber

Eber is so darn funny. Really a great sense of humor and perspective on Adam. I follow him on Twitter as many of his tweets are gems.

I'm thinking maybe Adam didn't want some of his youthful indiscretions concerning overdrafts, being unmotivated, etc. revealed?? Typical smart creative kid just having fun with dad there to cover expenses.

Again good parenting. The line was drawn forcing Adam to do his own thing, whatever that thang was. And now we're enjoying it.

Luv that pic; have it as my wallpaper. So many good pics of Adam that I change all the time.
