HE WILL ROCK YOU: ADAM LAMBERT + PITTSBURGH PRIDE!
by Rachel Jones
Leather and glitter and everything rock – this is what Adam Lambert is made of. He’s also a compassionate person who supports his fellow members in the LGBT community. Whether he’s inspiring others or just getting them out on the dance floor, Lambert is making a difference the best way he knows how: through his voice.
With his smoky eye makeup on and jet black hair spiked, the prominent pop star is ready to bring his fierce flavor to Pittsburgh Pride. Chris Bryan, director of marketing and development for the Delta Foundation, which is organizing this year’s Pittsburgh Pride celebration, says Lambert is the ideal performer to headline Pride in the Street. “We’re always looking for an entertainer who will appeal to a broad audience, and we think Adam Lambert is the perfect choice,” Bryan says. “We can’t wait to hear his amazing voice resonate up and down Liberty Avenue!”
Lambert first came on our radar during his time on “American Idol” in season eight. His unique style and vivacious personality definitely made us stop and take notice. He may not have been the overall winner of the singing competition, but he ultimately won the hearts of fans across the country. And now, his fandom has spread to a worldwide phenomenon.
His debut album, For Your Entertainment, unleashed hits, including “Whataya Want From Me?” and “If I Had You,” but Lambert really struck musical gold with his latest creation. His sophomore album, Trespassing, skyrocketed to No. 1 on the Billboard charts, thanks to its catchy dance songs and Lambert’s dedicated fan base. But Lambert’s songs also present a message about embracing who you are and not caring what other people think. For example, the title track is about daring to stand out and break boundaries, even when being different is not accepted – something we’re sure the openly gay singer has personally dealt with before.
While the Grammy Award nominee is making his mark in the music world, he’s also making a difference in the LGBT community. The singer has recently been working the gay pride event circuit, which included a show in Miami. The main difference between a concert and a Pride event? “It’s bound to be gayer, if that’s even possible,” Lambert says. “I really love how the community comes together to celebrate one another. It’s an inspiring event for us all.” Lambert also participated in the “It Gets Better” campaign, which supports and inspires youth who endure harassment and discrimination. In recognition of his work in the community, Lambert was honored with the Davidson/Valentini Award at the 24th annual GLAAD Media Awards. This award is given to an openly LGBT media professional, who has made a significant difference in promoting equality for the community. “I’m thrilled to accept it,” Lambert says. “I am honored that GLAAD sees merit in how I’ve chosen to represent myself and the LGBTQ community. I advocate for inclusion, diversity, and love in my art, and I hope to inspire others to be exactly who they want to be.”
With his explosive stage presence and daring wardrobe, we can’t wait to see what Lambert has planned for Pride in the Street on June 15. The only plan he’d reveal to us: “To sing my face off.” As a part of the Pittsburgh Pride celebration, Lambert will be performing for thousands of fans atop the outdoor stage on Liberty Avenue. As Pittsburgh Pride continues to have a stronger presence in the city — it’s currently the fifth largest special event! — Bryan says it’s important to ensure everyone gets the most out of the event that they can. “Pride in the Street is an entire evening of performers and music that offers a little bit of something for everyone.” An amazing concert by Adam Lambert sounds great to us!

Great article! (Wish I was going....)...
I'll be there drinking and making a fool out of myself. Naw I'll behave, sort of.
Have fun anon 11:32! Can't wait to hear all about it:)
Adam has definitely rocked my world, my sleep (or lack of) etc, etc, etc...
He has ROCKED my world since Satisfaction in 2009... And I'm sure he will continue ROCKING it... YAY!!!
That's why he is my ROCK GOD!!!:)
He will strut your soul he!he!
Canadian
Adam has rocked my world from the very moment I heard him first sing. :)
It would be refreshing if Pittsburg newspapers give Adam some nice write ups......not just gay publications.....JAK
I have my fingers crossed.
@1:58Am-I totally agree with your comment. There is no one like Adam in the music business today and that's what makes him so special in my eyes. Talent, charisma, wit, honesty and intellect...all traits that make him the amazing person and performer that he is. Always look forward to seeing new pics, vids or reading the latest from him or about him.
Anon 2:19
Thank you, you said it perfectly in a nutshell. Have a nice day/evening in Adamland! :))))

JAK, many media outlets are loathe to give Adam any exposure unless it's for what could be a scandal (Adam arrested, Adam bashing Les Miz, Adam kissing, etc.), and those are featured prominently and with an eye to confusing the issue with omissions of mitigating facts. This is not to say that it occurs only with Adam, because scandal is what sells, but Adam didn't do anything wrong. But after reading Clay Aiken's fans impressions of Adam, it is no wonder that Adam is derided so much. Of course, when it is convenient and consistent with one's point of view, tabloid news more often than not, is taken as gospel truth.
As for Adam's list of accomplishments, well, all kinds of excuses will be offered: They did not take place in the U.S. (LifeBall, Queenbert Concerts, China's Best International Artist, Asian and European Trespassing tours, e.g.) and if they did, were deemed too inconsequential, unless the happening related to the LBGTQ
or gay community.
Thankfully, Adam does get media exposure from countries outside the U.S. even when he's not there, because a newsworthy accomplishment is an accomplishment, regardless of location and orientation, at least to the non-U.S. public.
But the media do adhere to standards of newsworthiness, don't they? Check out Yahoo news or any entertainment section of many publications, and you get the answer: titillation and scandal will always grab headlines and columns, typical news fodder for readership numbers, and they don't even have to be tabloid rags. And, where Adam's concerned, that's a certainty.
Queenbert, I thought, should have garnered Adam news mention, but
"Who wore it better?" feature must have aced out Adam's sold out triumphant concerts with the legendary Queen. Sigh...not fair. Media's bias may be responsible for the U.S. public's myopia re: Adam's triumphs, but like Adam, I'm optimistic. "The more things are the same, the more they change". atm
@atm - u r just so cool
MGF
@MGF
I agree with you...:))
@atm
Exactly right......I don't watch a lot of TV entertainment/gossip shows, etc, unless I know Adam might be on :) , but I do catch them on rare occasion, and I cannot believe some of the ..um...crap...that is "reported". So much stuff is not even remotely interesting or newsworthy. IMHO. Depends on the show or magazine. But I suppose they know that people are going to be watching to see what gossip-worthy tidbit they can catch about one of the Kardashians, or Justin Beiber's latest faux pas. Or some poor star wearing a bikini with a little cellulite in various places.... Scandal sells... embarrassment sells. It isn't all like that certainly, but seems to be more and more so all the time... Sadly.
On the other hand, Adam isn't "scandalous" at the moment either.. something to be thankful for!!
If you pulled your heads out of your collective asses and followed any other singer or band you would know Adam is receiving the same "lack of reporting" as everybody else. Unless you are a fan seeking it out or some major incident happened at a show no band or singer is getting the kind of coverage you seem to think Adam should have.
I didn't realize atm is an international media expert. The claim that newsworthy stories are better covered in other country's media regardless of where they happened is baseless. All countries are centric in what their media covers. Local and national stories will always have priority.
What is with the need to have everyone put Adam on a worldwide pedestal? Why claim it is hate or conspiracy just because he isn't on your tv every day? Neither are most performers. Try a little reasonableness and reality.
no! I want Adam on TV everyday!! J/K
11:32 I'll be there drinking and dancing wit you in Pittsburgh. I need to have some fun, some serious sh*t going down on this thread man. lol
@11:27
What's up with you! Whose fan are you? Why so serious?! (isn't that from a song...lol)
If you are an Adam fan, it's in your 'job description' to want him everywhere and every day.
For many (dare not to say MOST) Adam fans Adam IS THE ONLY ONE, superior to the rest when it comes to singing & performing & persona. And of course you want the world for the best singer in the world!
Ok, I'm trying to say (not in an angry way) that compared to his VOICE & other assets and talents he is SOOOO underrated esp. in US (of course there are also other countries where he is not so known, where he has not been performing etc).
For me personally ADAM is unsurpassed in so many ways! After his VOICE came in to my life (that's true, I heard his voice before I saw his beautiful face & charismatic persona) I have had a hard time listening to other singers... I still love my old favorites, but I seldom listen to them. It's Adam's fault, IKR!
So my opinion and wish:
ADAM NOT ONLY NEEDS BUT DESERVES MORE OF EVERYTHING - fans, love, acceptance, acknowledgement, publicity, vicibility, possibilities and support from tv, radio, network suits - lose the homofobia - albums, tours, sales & financial success to secure he keeps on bringing us joy & love ad infinitum!
WHAT IS YOUR WISH FOR ADAM?
(sorry for all the mistakes, no time to check now)
@11:27 The following is just my opinion of course: While I feel you make a great point or two, you mostly missed atm's point! Read the post again, imho you've negated, or at least cheapened, the good points you floated (which were also well articulated) by exposing your own lack of understanding of atm's main focus/theory... and furthermore, imho you may have lost your audience by being terse in your tone, and so lost the opportunity for possible consumption and mastication of your valid points at the same time
