I do too @JAK.. He's a really nice guy.. Love his interviews with Adam.. Looking forward to this next one!!!

Anonymous said...

Byron is a cool guy!!!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the heads-up, glitzylady.
I can't wait for this interview!! Love Byron's dry wit and Adam "plays along" with him so well. :-D

Anonymous said...

So cool for Adam that he has the likes of Byron flailing for him. He truly appreciates Adam for all his gifts and roots for him at every opportunity. I love his Ozzie wit, if there's such a thing, akin to Brit wit, yes?

Anonymous said...

Byron hasn't always been nice about Adam. He has written some snarky tweets too. And he doesn't seem to understand what eve means.

glitzylady said...

I don't recall ever hearing Byron say anything but great things about Adam, and I've been following Byron on Twitter since GNT times.. (and met him once in LA..).. He's a Glambert for sure!!!!

Anonymous said...

LOL glitzylady has met everybody.

Anonymous said...

My twitter feed has several people who are not fans of Byron. He must have done something to tick so many people off.

Anonymous said...

Byron has conducted some real fun interviews with Adam - I particularly remember a very entertaining one from the FYE era - so he must be thrilled to chat with Adam on the occasion of coming back to Australia with Queen this time.

I also vaguely remember Byron writing an article about various talented artists who are facing challenges breaking through as they don't exactly fit a particular genre. Adam was included. Who else remembers?

glitzylady said...

@Anon 6:57 PM
:)))))

Not really...

But following Adam around to some of his concerts does create some opportunities once in awhile....Sometimes you just run into people and have a little chat. Like Byron Cooke.. No big deal. Plenty of other fans have met Byron too, over the years.. He was at the last GNT show, at Club Nokia. It was fun....

glitzylady said...

@Anon 7:08 PM
Check the main thread links.. The FYE interview is posted there, along with one more... from the Trespassing Era..

I do remember Byron's blog post about the difficulties of some artists to get recognition and radio play.. I'll go find it and post it here.... Thanks for mentioning it..

glitzylady said...

@Anon 7:00 PM
Are you sure it was Byron they're talking about?? ..There is another DJ (American, initials TK) who some grumble about.. I have no issues with him either...

@Anon 7:08 PM

Here's the Byron Cooke blog post you mentioned:

"Radio Homeless: Artists Who Don't Fit In" Nov. 2012

Excerpts from the article:

"The mainstream music industry LOVES a formula. Before a song “impacts” commercial radio, it’s appeal is assessed by record labels & management in terms of what “format” it is best aimed at."

"The most popular US contemporary music formats are Top 40 & Rhythmic CHR. Hot AC, Urban & Alternative also add new songs to playlists on a weekly basis."

"For artists with very clearly defined sounds and audiences this process works beautifully. Rihanna impacts Top 40. The Black Keys new single goes for adds on Alternative."

"But what about the artists who are harder to categorize? Artists who push boundaries and break rules can find themselves homeless."

He goes on to give three examples, one of them Adam...

"On the other side of the equation you have another brand of homeless artist – Adam Lambert. Despite his 2nd album Trespassing debuting at no.1 on the US Billboard chart this year, potential singles from his Pharrell Williams produced album can’t find a home amongst the traditional radio formats. Rolling Stone gave it rave reviews – but its too upbeat for a HOT AC station. It’s not “hip” enough for alternative. For whatever reason, its also not quite in the right slot for Top 40."

http://byroncooke.com/radios-homeless-artists-who-dont-fit-in/

**Interesting that he also mentioned Macklemore as being radio "homeless" at that point in time... He's definitely been doing well for himself since the article was posted a year and a half ago!! Grammys and all that.. And radio play. Things change..hoping Adam finds himself on the radio with his next album....

I've never heard Byron say anything snarky about Adam. Perhaps you don't get his dry sense of humor .... and he doesn't understand what 'eve' means - HUH???

Anonymous said...

eve
noun
the evening, or the day or night before a holiday or event

Gabi said...

@glitzylady, thanks for posting that article on "radio homelessness". After reading that article written by Byron my respect for him grew.

Anonymous said...

Byron was just very loosely using the word "eve"-I am sure he knew the actual meaning of the word. He probably should perhaps have used "cusp", "threshhold" or "verge", but didn't consider that Glamberts were pedantics. He is a great guy and really loves our Adam. Margarita Lady

Anonymous said...

I know what "eve" means and I'm sure Byron does too. Why is this such a big deal? Trouble-makers abound on this blog. :-(

Anonymous said...

Wish there were more manly men like Byron, admitting their total CRUSH (yes, that's the word!) on Adam and having fun with it plus doing a great job promoting Adam every chance he gets!

Byron, you ROCK!

JAK here.....those who have been here the longest may recall we had male commentor....I would imagine late fifties from the bands he mentioned. He only posted a few times but what he said was prophetic . I remember him since I was a military child and he called himself Sarge.

He was an instant fan of Adams since he had been a roadie for several big bands for a number of years and recognized Adams potential. HOWEVER he said to be successful in the record world of 2009 Adam would have to choose a genre....and a single sound and stick to it. A sound that everytime you hear a snipet you knew who it was instantly.

He was wonderfully versatile and that having been a stage actor he acted his songs...like he did on Idol.
(I guess he meant like a chameleon becoming a different singer for each song.) he felt this would hold him back.

At the time I thought his observation was a pretty good
point. Sort of "wait till you are a known factor to spread out"....He seemed like a true fan who was pretty wise. It might have been good advice.

When I was trying to 'sell' Adam to friends and even mere acquaintances....they would always ask "what does he sing?" I would say "everything", that was not a selling point. Who knows?

I'm glad Adam can sing "everything". It makes him a much more interesting and versatile performer rather than just singing the same ol' genre over and over.

Anonymous said...

It's really sad that the media and public will only accept those who are one dimensional.

Anonymous said...

Just read that this week's Idol finale had the lowest ratings in the history of the show.

Anonymous said...

JAK has Adam been singing too much rap and country lately. He sings pop/rock and you should have told your friends that. He was also trying to be versatile on idol to win there were different themes each week.

Anonymous said...

I read it was the lowest rating for an American Idol show ever not just for a finale. I really enjoyed it myself.

Anonymous said...

Wow the views on LMD have sure slowed down it may just become the lowest watched mv in Avicii history soon.

Anonymous said...

It'll be interesting to see how Caleb fares as a rocker after Idol. What's James Durbin doing these days?

Anonymous said...

If LMD were released as a single in the US, it might attract a lot more views.

Anonymous said...

I thought Idol was extremely lack lustre this year, and of the 2 finalists, I preferred Jena.

Anonymous said...

6:23, that's even worse.

7:15, LMD is having a very good run overseas, IMO. I agree with you that if it becomes a U.S. single, its numbers should go up. Hope it happens!

2:08, I so agree with you! Byron is so comfortable and natural around Adam. He can joke with him, even about his sexuality, and yet it is so friendly and warm and cordial. Ya gotta love this guy for his support of Adam from the beginning. He just "gets" Adam, as we fans like to say. His humor is similar to Adam's. He brings out in the best in Adam's humor and personality, too. You can tell that Adam like Byron and is very comfortable around him. Yes! There should be more male fans who like Adam and aren't "afraid" to say so. Love Byron for keeping OZ fans excited about Adam.

Remembering too along with Bryon who is so supportive..there are other DJ's in OZ who have been airing Adam. One of our local supermarkets even plays 'Lay Me Down'!

Anonymous said...

Tonight I still know ADAM played the best Fiyero of all time! (Just returned from WICKED yet again).

Anonymous said...

It is not safe for Marina to have her full name and address on the internet like that. ADMINS, please delete it as soon as JAK has seen it!

Anonymous said...

If the LMD video was a little more than a "performance" from Avicii, it would have more views. If he would have put Adam in the video, the views would be off the chart!

I just deleted @Fan4fun's post with her full name and address, in the interest of her safety and security. I'm reposting her message here below, minus the name and address.

@JAK, please email me at glitzylady1@gmail.com and I'll send her address to you..

@Fan4fun's post to @JAK:

@@@@@@@@
here is Fun4fun to JAK

Seriously, JAK? Are you really giving me such a great gift? Oh, Lord!!! I'll considere it as another blessing and a birthday gift (before June 15th). Thank you sooooo much, my friend! You can not mail it to the Red Cross (because «we» are moving to an yet unknown address very soon), but you can mail it to myself:

[Name and address deleted here]

That's my real name and address, a kind of «home» that belongs to an ex-president of the Azorian Red Cross, who helped me a lot giving me a room with a little own yard to another (a big one) yard/garden, to live with my too cats (Icon and Amalia), paying a very low rent, in change of some volunteer services to the Red Cross (when my health permits). As you can see, I've lost much of my English, my memory is in a bad shape but I hope to improve it bringing sweet Adam and my friends here (in Paradise) back to my life. Whith YOUR HELP, of course! God bless you, JAK!
PS: Icon sends kisses to his favorite Grand Ma.

7:14 James Durbin has a new album and a single out.I was surprised he wasn't on idol this year with new music out and a label. He is going to open for a rock group too, can't think of the name of the band.

Anonymous said...

@Fan4fun.....JAK here....your name and address was deleted before I could see it, but glitzylady gave me her address so she can give it to me....I will send her a message right now.

I am happy to do this for you...but don't be anxious, I am full up on my calendar with medical appointments this coming week...I'll bet you know what that is like.....I will try to squeeze in a shopping trip. This post office trip will astound my usual postal worker...I never send anything to such an exotic address as The Azores.

I will send you a note when i mail it....take care of
yourself ..... :-)

James D. Still an opening act not a main act yet. So few from idol are except CU, Adam L., CD, KC. Adam is fronting one of the biggest bands in history quite a great achievement. He always been the main act since the GNT. He will be very busy for the summer but the album will be coming. Can't wait for Queen and Adam Lambert once in a life time tour. So proud of him!

Anonymous said...

@JAK, I am glad you brought up a discussion worthy issue regarding musical genre in the recording business. I am not a music insider, but as a genuinely invested Adam fan I have been educating myself a bit and done my observations. It seems that sound recognition and musical identity ARE important. While I think that Adam's versatility is a HUGE bonus during a live concert it may have made it more challenging for him to establish his "brand".

Adam believed in creating an album that's more like a playlist - he even mentioned some time ago that he would get bored otherwise - but I am sure he's reflecting on that for era3. He is smart and very driven (even though a bit stubborn at times ha...ha), and he's loaded with superstar qualities!

@ glitzylady...JAK here...there will be a slight delay in my contacting you....my laptop is at Daytona Beach with daughter and though I am sending to your right address, my iPad keeps saying "not delivered." I have a call in to my "expert"... But he's working at the moment in Diagon Alley in Potter - Land at Universal. I am sure he'll be able to tell me what's wrong. I'm all excited about sending a parcel to Fan4fun...it feels like Christmas!
I have your email from a long ago conversation we had thru the fan club...before they kept telling me my password was wrong...I must have registered 6 or 7 new passwords, each time they said they were wrong, so I just quit trying! Of course, I am a jinx around these methods of communication! :-(

I'll get to you soon as I can....

Anonymous said...

I don't recall Adam ever opening for another act. Yes, he has appeared on the same bill with other acts where there have been many acts performing at the same event. But he's never opened for anyone else that I can recall. Interesting.

11 25
James has headlined his own tour as have all the winners and runners up and others at one time or another. You can't possibly compare adam to people like Kelly and carrie.

Anonymous said...

@ Gabi....JAK here...I thought that the guy Sarge made sense. I believe at the finish of Idol many people were waiting for a rock album. I know my #1 daughter was...that's about all she listens to. When FYE came out it may have surprised some of his Idol fans. It was, all over the place in genres...which I like...but as this Sarge commented, no signature sound.

Who knows? We know he's insanely talented, either people will be willing to accept him as is...or not. I liked his plan on Trespassing, dividing the album as he did. It still astounds me that other countries 'get him' better than the U S A.

glitzylady said...

@JAK
OK...

Anonymous said...

@11:54
I am not 11:25, but I'll say this:
You are the most obnoxious and aggravating piece of "it" on this site! Always belittling Adam and other posters. Presenting yourself as the know it all and so hung up on Idol.

Nobody's comparing Adam to Carrie or Kelly, no need, cause Adam is in a league of his own in versatility (he can sing anything and any genre, thank you Universe, he does not waste his talents singing country/country rock!) and voicewise (how he uses his one in a billion voice, his range etc). Not to mention his international star appeal, which is sorely lacking on most Am Idol contestants, winners and all.

Anonymous said...

1 30
Yes, the poster was comparing adam to the stars from Idol who have had big, successful careers. And adam isn't in their league. You can be a fan without saying completely ridiculous things

Anonymous said...

1:30 PM. What the hell is wrong with country/country rock? There are millions of fans of that genre. The stars of country have the millions of dollars to prove it. I doubt anyone is expecting Adam to cross over! It would be ludicrous .

I personally feel you are being obnoxious. Why?

Anonymous said...

1:34
There is no comparison in 11:25 post, just stating that the mentioned people have not been working as opening act for anyone, always their own boss so to speak.

1:58
Not being obnoxious. Nothing wrong with country/country rock, but there sure are enough of singers/performers in that genre in US already. And to sing country/country rock you don't need the virtuoso kind of voice that Adam has. Just glad of Adam's uniqueness!

Anonymous said...

Adam had a very good career has done lot more than just concerts and cd's. as far as international CU is not and he is better there. Adam time is coming in the next few couple years where is career is coming up . It's already coming up. The Queen tour was no luck it was talent the way he sang their songs and interacted with them. They love Adam. Did not see them beating down the door to get to Caleb who wanted to sing with them or James D. Who a rocker. Adam always since Idol been a main act except for idol tour. No all of them at one time or the other been the main act Adam always has never opened for anyone. kC been on the scene for fourteen years her career has had whole lot more time to do well. She had her ups and downs as well.
CU four or five years longer country seem to promote there artist more than pop. Give Adam the years they been around his career will be just as good. Neither one are one bit more talented than Adam . Adam will be in the industry in one way or the other for years. Not talking about theatre either. Queen tour will get many more fans they will leave those concerts with their mouth open from Adam fantastic talent. There are only two or three from idol who are international to Adam, KC, maybe CD. Not CU. Adam has had many in the top ten and no. Ones abroad especially the first album especially in Asia ask Lam/my.
Adam done way better than the ones the resident trolls like push daily and belittle Adam. He sure as hell done better than JD how many Glee's did he do, how many Vh1divas did he host, or PLL was he on and how many Queen concerts has he fronted. Did he sale over two million of his first alb and five million singles. Was his second no. 1. Say what you want about trespassing it did well abroad. If you don't think so explain how he was with RCA for fourteen months after it and KA four months and DC. Now RCA put the best if Adam Lambert out still making money on him. No best of KA out there it DC who both had RCA. They know the Queen tour will increase is fan base. All the negative nellies/ trolls will not stop it. Adam is a huge talent great things are coming very soon. The resident trolls who constantly belittle Adam and compare him to people who been off idol many more years. CU done well in America but is not international. She been out of idol four five years longer thanAd had time to break through internationally and have not . Adam next couple years will have a big up turn for his career on America which in so many directions have done well. It's not a contest but the nasties insist on making it that. 1.30 was not being obnoxious. She was defending who this site is about Adam Lambert. Not long until the once in a life time epic Queen plus Adam tour. Adam been away from idol couple more years thanJD but you compare what Adam did in those same amount of years no comparison. So these people have sites of there own to promote them. If not please start them one.

Anonymous said...

Name one concert of over three thousand to ten thousand peopleJames D has head lined. Couple hundred not a concert.

Anonymous said...

I was comparing Adam to KC, CU .CD in the way that they do not open for people but carry their own concerts and Adam does it internationally. This 11.25 that's all I meant was not comparing careers. Nothing ridiculous about what I said. But now that the nasties have twisted every thing real fans have said. Yes CU who been off idol four five years longer than Adam has done well in country in America but not internationally she not international. Adam done very well on TV and internationally and grows every day.

Anonymous said...

Oh for Pete's sake, this thread has gone off the rails, let's just agree that Adam is super and we like him best, but other people have talent too. Hooray for all singers who sing their hearts out.

Adam is about to have an experience that is almost unheard of, a tour with the best of the best and it's not just Queen, but Queen + Adam Lambert who is selling those tickets. It's celebration time!..JAK

Maybe we all, friends of @Fan4fun could contribute in some small way? Please maybe discuss about the possibilities with @glitzylady?

@ 7:13.....JAK here....thank you for the sweet offer, but I've got this covered. I use my retirement check for such unusual occasions. Since more than half of my work years was as a volunteer, my check is rather puny. But I always find a good place for it.

I was so happy when Fan4fun joined us again, I wanted to make sure she could stay in touch. We need people like her.

Don't you just love "gobsmacked"? It's in my list of favorite words........
