Adam Lambert spoke out against Gun Violence today on Twitter, perhaps in response the rash of school shootings/deaths recently in the US.. President Obama also spoke out today: "We're the only developed country on Earth where this happens..and it happens now once a week. And it's a one day story.. There's no place else like this. " Another school shooting occurred today in Troutdale, OR. Last week at a university in Seattle.. The week before that in Santa Barbara, and the list goes on... President Obama today:

The crazy pro gun nut TeapubliKKKlan needs to be stopped!!! Thanks Adam for speaking up! How many more tragedies does ther have to be!

keep guns out of negligent hands. Where is the police when needed? they suppose to be protecting civilians. Get your asses out of doughnut and coffee shops. Do your damn job. Police are a joke. Pretty soon body armour will be assigned to everyone on the streets. I say there will be another Hatfield and McCoy before Obama will make a move.

Let's be careful not to turn this site into a political argument. I come here to have fun following Adam not to read political arguments like the rampaging on here last week. The way this post is made is going to induce political arguing.

Anonymous said...

Yeah it's Obama's fault? He's been trying to pass stricter gun laws since he's been in office but the crazy Ammosexual TeapubliKKKlan fights him at every turn!!

All I can say is this, as a retired high school English teacher, it is so sad and frightening to read about another tragedy in another school in this country. School was one of the places where students could feel safe no matter what was happening at home and in their lives. Now that seems to be taken away from them. I don't know what we need to do to prevent these senseless killings. I know we come to this site to learn the latest about Adam and his career(and that's a good thing), but I just had to comment on this latest tragedy in America.

Thank you Adam for speaking out. YoU're either part of the problem or part of the solution. More people have to stop being afraid of the NRA, GOP, and those gun carrying activists.Speak up, Dammit!!!!!

Adam spoke out against Gun Violence in America.

This post merely reflects what Adam is speaking about.. It is not meant to induce political infighting..

Too many killings of children and young adults in schools in the past couple of years.. Who would argue against trying to stop it from continuing to happen.. Obviously there are those who do.

I've seen some of the responses to Adam's tweets on twitter..Many supportive and in agreement, others are abusive...

Sad, very sad.....

Adam is speaking his heart and mind here... He has never been one to back away from controversy, particularly if it means that it might perhaps help someone.. He speaks out against discrimination, he speaks out against bullying.. These killings are the ultimate bullying..

And I also support the President's anguished concern...

Thank you Adam for tweeting this and thank you glitzy for posting it here. Incredibly sad.

Anonymous said...

Glitzylady, it would have been fine to just post Adam's tweets but you politicized by adding the President's speech.

I don't think this site needs anymore in-fighting and ugly comments brought on by politicizing the incident.

Yes it is heartbreaking.
Here in NZ even our Police are not armed, I believe they can access arms and we have an Armed Offenders Squad to deal with armed situations. Of course there have been shootings, but on the whole statistic wise its not bad. Though even one person dead is too many.
So I do agree with Adam, only Law Enforcement Officers should be armed.
Do most people in the US want the laws changed, or is freedom of choice more popular?

Anonymous said...

There is no argue about the important topic like these senseless killing of innocent people indeed!!:(...

People in the U.S.A has to unite fully against gun.

I have a second amendment right to carry a gun and if more people were armed these crazy shooters would be taken down sooner.

7:49 - The two police officersw in the restaurant in Las Vegas were armed. Did them a lot of good didn't it?

Anonymous said...

7:49 typical gun nut logic. What a bunch of bullshit your statement is.

NRA = Your Dead Child. But that's okay, because you have embraced their distorted perversion of the 2nd amendment.

Schools are for people who want educated. Why are criminals taking all of that away? Just because most of them didn't give a damn about school, doesn't mean that others don't want their rights to an education. I think schools will become obsolete.

I disagree.Better background checks ,and tougher laws. Remember it was because of our guns ,why the Japanese didn't invade us World War II.

Obama didn't do anything after Sandy Hook and all those little kids killed. He's not going to do anything this time.

When are people going to become more important than guns.

I want Adam to have a successful career in the US. He is going to alienate current and future fans with these polarizing statements. He should stay out of politics and just sing.

Thank you Adam for speaking out! Step one is to acknowledge the problem. Let our voices be heard to save our children and ourselves.

I am a gun owner & I have been all of my adult life I agree guns are getting into wrong hands some how that should be stopped but taking all of the guns away from people like me will not stop that.they need to do more in educating young & old in what drugs can do to people I am talking about glue inhalents inhaling gas, house hold cleaners the tobacco that is legle and laced with stuff you mix with water inhale it.All of these things are contributing to shootings if a person is high they do crazy things, all the legal drugs are what we need educated in you can get in any store this is a big part of bulling the kids don't know how harm ful they are until a death or rehab if they live to get there. If people want guns they are going to get them then it will be just like home made drugs.

Good thing those School Resource Officers were armed and in the school.

So if you leave a comment with a political viewpoint admin doesn't like you will be deleted? Where are we, North Korea?

I don't know how many of your loved ones where inflicted with this senseless school shootings but two of my loved ones were in these types of crazy shootings. One in Santa Monica and he was in SMC library where the shooter entered. The other one in Santa Barbara living close to the girl's dormitory. The horror of these craziness ripped our hearts into pieces. Gun control is one solution but also schools, parents, and communities paying better attention to troubled youth is another solution.

Anonymous said...

Those who are involved with science of war making these dangerous weapons should be locked up.

Anonymous said...

9:09- are you serious, Pres. Obama tried very hard to get gun control legislation passed and the NRA and the chicken Republicans blocked the legislation.

Anonymous said...

That's why I don't like two or multiple parties political systems. One party morachy political systems pay better attention to social problems. In England even police officers don't carry guns.

Anonymous said...

Can someone tell my why Republicans are pro-life but on the other hand they are pro-guns and same goes for Democrates why they are pro-choice and on the hand they are anti-guns?? Why should people be even followers of either parties when both of them have screwed up views about how to handle social matters? Make both of them stop wasting your taxes.

Anonymous said...

11:15, Obama just needs to write an executive order then.

Anonymous said...

Nothing's wrong with pro-choice, anti-gun.

I have always been a believer of exactly what Adam stated...GO ADAM! Way to speak up and be heard! This issue hit too close to home for me personally. My nephew (and Godson) was in that deli just moments before the Santa Barbara shooter got there. A good friend's daughter's friend was one that was killed sadly.

I'm glad Adam spoke out, I hope more celebrities follow suit.....it makes me sad everytime I hear of another shooting in the US, which seems to be on a weekly basis at times, and read the endless comments from people who believe its their right to have a gun, it makes them safer etc etc...
Just a quick google on the subject will show you the facts, The US has the highest number of guns per population, 88 guns to every 100 people, and has the highest gun related death rate in the world, over 11,000 a year. Japan has the lowest number of guns, 0.6 per 100, and the lowest number of deaths, I think it was 7 last year...and thats in a population of 130million. It has been shown again and again, that the more guns there are, the more deaths there are, the less guns there are the less deaths there are. I don't get why its so hard to understand.

Anonymous said...

11:15 They do now in special times which is a pity but England has a lot of crime and violence now. I left their 50 years ago for USA and when I go back its so sad how its changed. Unfortunately people in politics who live in their ivory towers making decisions for the masses that has turned England into a nanny state. People coming into country get free handouts and stay on the books for years not working or contributing. Also, many criminals coming in too.

Anonymous said...

Actually gun violence numbers in the US are declining even as the population and gun ownership rises.

See this info from a neutral source:

"CDC data also show gun homicides have declined each year since 2007, falling from 12,791 in 2006 to 11,078 in 2010, even as the nation’s population grows. In fact, the homicide rate in 2010 (3.6 per 100,000 people) was the lowest since at least 1981 — which is as far back as the CDC’s online database goes."

"The international data show that country-to-country comparisons are inherently difficult to make — and, as the NRC said, provide “contradictory evidence.” For instance, Latin American countries with high levels of firearm homicide show low levels of gun ownership. Honduras has a gun ownership rate of 6.2 per 100 people and a gun homicide rate of 68.43 per 100,000 people, and Colombia has a gun rate of 5.9 and firearm homicide rate of 27.09, ..."

Experts say it is difficult to prove causal relationships on gun crime based on statistics.

google ----- Obama Gun law proposals praised by scientists and by the way, also praised by the Vatican.

Our President has attempted every kind of regulation he might possibility be able to get passed. He is opposed by the NRA at every turn. The congress members who accepted the buckets of re-election money from the NRA veto any attempt at regulation. Even after the slaughter of 20 children and 6 staffers at Sandy Hook.

I'd like to say a word for police officers, I've had 6 in my family. Two of whom were shot on duty, but thankfully survived. They are dedicated and work long hours in sometimes dangerous situations to protect the citizens. My niece and nephew are currently dedicated officers.

@ 3:05 am. - Check it out - the economy is improving, not being destroyed, where do you get your biased info?

11:24 totally agree, these are not political issues.

krismidas said...

For those on this thread who are pounding the table about the second amendment: You need to study the Constitution and the intentions of the Founding Fathers who drafted it. The second amendment was meant to apply to militias, not to individuals who want to carry guns. The NRA is a lobbying group for the gun industry -- it's all about gun manufacturers and sellers making more and more money. The gun culture and politics in the U.S. is beyond ridiculous, and people die here everyday because of it. I follow the Chicago Tribune on Twitter, and every single day there is a tweet about how many people in the city were killed or wounded by guns -- there is a DAILY body count here. U.S. citizens need to turn off Fox (so called) News, and try to understand what is really going on.

I frankly don't mind this thread becoming a political argument, because this is a really, really important issue in my country. There is way too much ignorance among voters, mostly thanks to the gun lobby's propaganda. The NRA has blood on its hands, and something needs to change. A president can't do it by himself. The people of the U.S. need to educate themselves and urge their representatives in Congress to do the right thing. The current gun laws in the U.S. are an absolute embarrassment.

Anonymous said...

The economy tanked in early fall of 2008. That was on Bush's watch, not Obama's. The economy has been slow to recover, but it's improving. Nothing is a quick fix. Obama has tried all kinds of legislative proposals to try to strengthen gun laws. The NRA is very powerful.

We have a long love affair with guns here in the U.S. Our frontier mentality still prevails in many parts of the country. The big cities are a different matter entirely. Guns allow attacks to be distance and anonymous. Often, the shooter doesn't even know his victims. He is often mentally unstable. Somehow, guns still find their way into the hands of these people. No one can monitor every person all the time. Bottom line for me is that if we have fewer guns, we'll have fewer shootings. Let the hunters hunt and the sport shooters have their sport. Guns as weapons is a whole different ballgame.

I live 18 miles from downtown Chicago. On a clear day, I can see the Sears Tower and the John Hancock Building from my house. It is a beautiful, vibrant city that I visit often. Some isolated areas are very violent. It's a culture of despair and fear. It's tragic that families and children grow up in such an environment. Stricter laws can help, but the real change has to come from within the culture itself. Chicago is not alone.

krismidas said...

Oh, and one more thing. There's no need to worry that Adam tweeting about gun violence will diminish his fan base. The vast, vast majority of celebrities in Hollywood believe in gun control. And most of the die-hard gun "enthusiasts" in this country probably wouldn't give Adam the time of day, because he is openly gay. (There seems to be a high correlation between homophobia and extreme passion for "gun rights".)

krismidas, Hello fellow Chicago-area Glambert. I was writing my post when you were writing yours. I agree with all your points. Our great city has areas that are held hostage by violence. Your explanation of the Second Amendment is correct, but the gun lobby doesn't want to hear it. No President can make changes on their own. The cultural mindset has to change.

DRG, I live in the Chicago area as well, and my comment was not meant to disparage our wonderful city. The problem of weekly, if not daily, gun violence is a problem in major cities all over the U.S.

And to 7:10 who claims that "police are a joke" -- U.S. voters need to pull their heads out of their asses for long enough to understand that police departments across the nation are greatly hampered in their efforts to control violence because of ridiculous gun laws that vary from state-to-state. If you live in the U.S., please try to educate yourself on this topic so you are an informed voter.

@HKFan it's not hard to understand. Even a toddler can understand it. Due to two political party system that they only care about their own agendas important human rights and social issues never ever gets solved. People should wisen up and make them accountable since they are paying them their hard earned money as taxes.

HK fan said...

@7.02am
I am not talking about the political issues. I'm talking on a personal level, the mentality that the more guns 'we' have the safer we are. The fact that people think its OK to have guns on their persons, in their cars, in schools, in their houses....and then wonder why so many people get killed by guns, whether by murder or accidental. How many thousands upon thousands of lives could have been saved if guns were not allowed. Studies have shown again and again and again that fewer guns means fewer deaths.

and @ 2.34am
because 11,000 deaths a year is so much more acceptable than 12,000.

Anonymous said...

@HKfan for us looking from outside this matter is a personal and social issue thinking shouldn't government of We The People protect its citizens?

To US people, isn't endangerment of your citizens by your government some kind of a treason?

8:00, The U.S. is still the country that people from all over the world risk their lives to get into. Tony Blair, former British Prime Minister, was on a talk show years ago, maybe Letterman. He said that it says a lot about a country when people either die trying to get into it or die trying to leave it. America has many problems, for sure, but it is still a better place than many. There are lots of wonderful places in the world, some with more "progressive" ideas about certain things than the U.S. does. We have a large, diverse, heterogenous population here, full of people from all over the world. Everybody wants what suits themselves most. Life's more complicated than just one issue.
