From The LA Times

Q & A With Adam Lambert

Photo credit: Adam Lambert photo shoot (May 14, 2015) by Christina House, for the LA Times

Adam Lambert on new album 'The Original High': 'I know who I am now

Excerpts from the article: Read the entire interview/Q&A at the link above:

Adam: I turned 33 this year, and I feel like, "OK, I know who I am now; identity isn't so much of a challenge anymore." The challenge is figuring out what I want from my life.

LA Times: And from your career.

Adam: Right. Before I started thinking about all that, my second album came out, and I was really proud of it, and critically it was well received. But it didn't quite have the life that I hoped it would have commercially.--

LA Times:  How did that affect you?

Adam:  I was bummed out. I wanted to release more songs to radio and make videos and ultimately put together a great big tour.

LA Times:  What happened?

Adam:  A lot of things. I'm not going to point fingers, but I think there were some creative decisions and some business decisions that didn't quite line up. But, you know, there's no science to this; it's kind of a guessing game.

I am SO proud of Adam for letting that interviewer (Mikael somebody) know that he was one of a very small group of people worldwide that did not get that Adam Lambert was himself on stage with QUEEN and that he had found the PERFECT balance to give incredible shows with that iconic band, all SOLD OUT shows by the way!! And they were all sold out BECAUSE Adam was himself and not pretending to be Freddie!! QUEEN fans and Adam fans were all thrilled with this amazing and unique worldwide tour. I often think that some media people in L.A. are stuck in an enclave and not really knowing what's going on in the rest of the world!

So, so proud of Adam's answers in this article about his new CD.

This interviewer was the same one who wrote the review of the QAL concert at the Forum in LA.. It was *lacking* in enthusiasm.. I suspect Adam was a little underwhelmed to be chatting with this man..

But good for Adam for speaking his mind..

I remember that self indulgent review. Attention seeker (Mikael somebody ) is.

I think the writer thinks Adam is very talented and that is why he was "disappointed" that Adam stayed close to the traditional version of the songs. Adam said it himself:
Adam: But straying too far from the original would feel self-indulgent and sort of sacrilegious.
Interviewer: See, I don't share that view.
Adam: But you're probably not a die-hard Queen fan.

Adam is right, the Queen fans would have torn him apart if he had made the songs his own. Adam was able to find the perfect balance.

More of what shows the interviewer likes Adam:
"But what attracted people to you on "Idol" was your personality. "The Original High" gets back to that." "Aam Lambert has established himself as one of pop's most reliable glamazons"

Can we please not trash and alienate another person?

Can't wait to see a vid of Adam performing at the Fashion Ball.

BTW, I just opened my Time Magazine. There's a little "Time's Picks" list. Their music selection is Adam's The Original High! It's just a small blurb, but it's in there!

As for the interview of this thread, I think Adam had his hands full with this guy, but he stuck to his guns and stated his opinions and the truth as he sees it. Not every interview is going to be all wine and roses. Adam can hold his own in just about any situation.

Some people hold grudges for ridiculous reasons.

The author of the review is a music journalist paid to give his opinion. He doesn't have to like everything. You don't have to agree with it. If you don't like what he said let it go and move on.

I do expect a moderator of a blog not to be throwing shade at articles. It is too easy for this fandom to pick up torches and pitchforks.

I'm not trashing the interviewer.. But it does add dimension to the article when we know the history.. I suspect the conversation with Adam this at this time and place was perhaps enlightening for him, and it's perhaps of a shame that he and Adam weren't able to sit down and have this discussion right after the QAL LA show.. It may have made a difference in the reviewer's "take" on the way the show was envisioned and presented by the men of Queen and by Adam himself.. But everyone has an opinion for sure..

His final comment in his review was:

"Queen is dead; long live -- no, wait, let’s keep it that way."

So perhaps this last part of this current interview makes a little more sense in what was said in this new interview..:

LA Times: In terms of a creative experience, though, that restriction is kind of a bummer.

Adam: I understand what you mean. But at the same time, that's why it was successful. If I hadn't found that balance, I don't think it would've gone over the way it did with everybody. I mean, I think you're in the minority of people who didn't like it.

I needed to add to my comment and the only way to do it is to delete and add.. no option otherwise.. Not to mention while I was in the process I accidentally totally deleted an entire portion.. never to be seen again..

It happens...

Excellent point by Adam that I hope some glamberts will keep in mind.

Q: ... Your fans are very vocal about what kind of artistic decisions you should be making.

A: ... You're not ordering your dinner for the night. There's no menu.

I was at the Forum ... Queen and Adam were wonderful. The only problem sitting at the second level in the back. Adam's voice sounded higher pitched than usual. People on the floor had no problem, I had a friend who sat there and said the sound is was amazing. Next time I'll set on the lower level. I was so disappointed but thankful to see Queen and Adam. Stuff happens. Gini

I was also at theForum sitting on the side half way up and the people I was with were blown away by Adam (as was I !) I think Adam did an incredible job throughout the whole QAL tour....a very difficult gig for him considering all factors but he is soooo talented and intelligent he pulls through with flying colors.

He handled the interviewer very well and always stands his ground politely but firmly. I really respect him for that.

3:16 PM, sadly I've been in a part of the venue where Adam sounded like he was on helium too.

Good thing is that the guy likes The Original High. So do I!

I was at LA Forum with couple of my friends and we all had a blast. Adam got standing ovation from the crowd for STL and WWTLF. Some guys were so excited that Brian and Roger sounded as great as before and they talked so highly of Adam.

Since the reporter writes articles in music section of LA Times, probably expected new music from Queen as a legendary rock band and having Adam as a new young frontman of the band. Obviously he isn't a Queen fan.

Adam's answers to him are very on point.

Overall a great article!

While I saw the Queen concert live and loved every single minute of it, I think it's cool that a reporter feels comfortable enough with Adam to be critical and give his point of view. It's better than reading an interview where the reporter fawns all over the star and asks trite, idiotic, meaningless questions, like what brand of eyeliner he uses. It was a great, informative interview, and Adam came off very well. And the reporter showed some guts as well. It's rare that a give and take can occur when usually reporters are given a redundant set of questions to ask. This was more of a conversation between two adults.

Different taste of sound for some eh! I watched them twice and it was superb. My friend was stunned and amazed how Adam's freaking voice played with queen songs indeed!!!:) Superlative!!!

6:13 PM, thank you so much for your reasoned and adult opinion. So rare here. I loved it.

I like what 2:48 PM pointed out.

Also, I suppose the Interviewer could have left out that section altogether, as Adam did challenge his POV pretty successfully. One could argue that a more ego driven reporter/interviewer would have edited that part altogether as the reporter/interviewer might feel that Adam gently argued his own point so successfully that the interviewer "looked bad". I have to say, I admire that this exchange about QAL was left in. Liked 6:13's comment too, and some of the others above as well... but all of the comments published in this thread are reasonable and it's a good discussion. Yay 24/7.

I actually liked it. yes he definitely didn't share MY view, but the questions were new, challenging and not cliche. Enjoyed reading Adam's articulate, straight and deep answers. this was very refreshing...

I thought the interviewer was rather arrogant and he's obviously not a fan of Queen. I'm glad Adam held his own.

5:24 AM, probably not a Queen fan but obviously an Adam fan.

6:13 PM, thank you for a great comment. It is the type I wish we saw more often from the "leaders" here.
