Selected quotes from the article:
In its ratings heyday, American Idol played a key role in building momentum for such artists as Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber by offering prime performance slots during the season. But as the Fox show has eliminated a night-two reveal altogether, guest performances by established acts have also gone by the wayside and, for its 15th run, will barely register.
According to sources, Idol’s final bow will feature only alumni of the show, saving the A-list bookings for the grand finale, scheduled for May 2016.
"We’re going to be reflecting on the huge successes and amazing moments from the past 14 years."
....not all Idol alums look back fondly on their alma mater. Says one rep of a top 10 finalist: "Unless your name is Adam Lambert, the show’s selective memory has left some non-winners feeling burned."
As for season eight's Lambert, his new single, “Ghost Town,” is gaining momentum at radio.

BB has been really good to Adam, so I don't want to sound too snarky. But I find it quite interesting that they put Adam in the headline, while later on in the article this: "Certainly returning graduates like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Phillip Phillips are bound to draw viewers...". They know that Glamberts guarantee hits :)
Gabi, I felt the same way when I saw that. Kind of bothered me, too. I'm trying to stay positive about the final season of Idol, and of course I will be watching the finale to see Adam. But to be honest, something inside me wishes it just all ended last season and was over. I know they must have this last season already contracted, so they have to do it, but I wouldn't miss it if they didn't. Adam is going strong. He got a lot from Idol, but he also gave back, probably more than any other contestant. From what I've heard, there are already ugly comments on some internet sites about the former AI contestants, arguing about who is better, etc. etc. It will probably only get worse. I intend to stay away from that. I will watch the finale to see Adam, of course. I did click on the article link posted here. I do not follow any contestants other than Adam, but I was surprised to see a comment posted that said that P2 is suing AI because his second album tanked. I thought he was doing ok. Had his huge debut hit (good song!). But I assume he will be on the finale, too.
I just hope Adam's 2016 up to that point if strong and high-profile with his own music and that he appears on the show as one of its top four biggest success stories (KC, CU, JH and Adam, just my opinion.) Then it will be time to bid the show a fond farewell at long last. Now, back to drooling over the new Rio pics.
I hope the AI label becomes irrelevant after AI is over. Good riddance in that case!
I just read this on NY Times: "This year’s event includes some of pop music’s biggest names, like Elton John, Rihanna and Sam Smith. Adam Lambert, a former contestant on “American Idol,” is touring with members of the band Queen, and will also perform here."
Adam is an Appendix to the "music's biggest names"?? Oh btw. beside the superstars there is this former AI contestant that is going to sing for Queen....
Pisses me off! Then somebody said AI label is not used to dismiss Adam as a pop/rockstar...
One thing that looked good -- in the picture with Queen, Adam was in the forefront and Brian and Roger were in the background.(Not taking any thing away from them, as I am sure they approved of this. I feel they want people to realize he is very important to that show, and that is one reason why the tours are being so successful.
My god, that Billboard's comment section is a mad house
Craig, I know this thread is buried now and you won't see my question, but I want to know what event the NYT was talking about with all those big names? I HATE the AI connection sometimes. It's a blessing or a curse, depending on who you are. Adam's been good to them, too. I just wish it wasn't attached to his name so often.

@Craig Furges
Hi Craig! I get do honestly your point but I think in reality it's awesome that Adam was specifically mentioned in that article, as performing with Queen (also an awesome mention!!)..
When you consider that they DIDN'T mention names like Katy Perry, John Legend, One Republic, or bands like Metallica (I know, Metallica are't pop music, but you get my drift..) etc.. etc.., who are also performing at Rock In Rio (in Rio de Janeiro), it's nice that his name was included in the write up, even with the American Idol tag, IMHO ..
The identifier "former contestant on American Idol" still may be necessary for more than a few people who are just not familiar with Adam here in the US..
Hoping, like you, that someday there will be no need to identify Adam Lambert to people.. They'll just KNOW.. He is a worldwide star of course, but not yet really to the same extent that Rihanna, Elton John, and even Sam Smith, are..
So yes, I REALLY get what you're saying, and it's darn frustrating, but I do try to look at the positive side: He got a mention, and Katy Perry did not. (I like her by the way, not dissing her at all, but just saying....)....
@Dee R Gee: to your point, although I was happy he was a guest judge this past season, was truly terrific in it, and got mileage on that in the press afterwards, something did bother me that they did not "reward him," so to speak, with a slot during one of the regular episodes to perform GT, which would have been a huge help. Thing is, they've let him perform a song every year since he's been on, haven't they (or at least several of the years), but this year was critically important. I did get some "grapevine" that they did ask Adam on for the Finale but his peeps turned it down. Perhaps things got a bit awkward in negotiations? And I wonder if this all had something to do with the new show runner they brought in -- maybe a few bad decisions during the run?
I wouldn't have expected him to perform GT on the finale, the way they format that, but definitely on one of the latter pre-Finale shows.
@Craig, I, too, see your point, but have to agree with @glitzy that Adam shouldn't (and he hasn't) dismissed Idol as his launching pad -- as he proved in a recent interview we posted this week (China interview -- http://adamlamberttv.blogspot.com/2015/09/video-adam-lambert-is-coming-with-his.html). But, agreed, hopefully the Idol label as the sole or always-introductory identifier of Adam will become less and less and, instead, the fact that he was on Idol will just be another fact in the story, as they usually do with Kelly and Carrie.
There actually have been a few pieces published this summer where he is ID'd as "international recording star" or "American recording artist" or things to that effect, which is a great start and hopefully will filter to a lot of the other media. And, I think, more than any other time, with GT being a hit, the TOH album receiving such praise, and all of the positivity around Q+AL, that the tide IS turning for Adam, image/perception-wise and, yes, as @glitzy said, people around the world will just KNOW who he is without ANY identifier.
Great discussion!! :)
The responses here have made me feel a little better. My emotions really get the better of me sometimes. Adam is always so gracious about being grateful to AI, unlike some former contestants. But I want the day to come when AI is no more an identifier for him than it is for Kelly and Carrie. He has certainly proved he can succeed on his own merits. And yes, he IS more often identified as "international recording star" or even "superstar" sometimes.
Thanks glitzy, broddy and Craig for calming me down, at least about that. My heart is racing, of course, in anticipation of the QAL shows!
And, Craig, thanks for the RIR link. I feel like such a dope. I should have read it first. Duh. I still say there was no reason to use the AI identifier for Adam. But other big were not mentioned at all, so there you go. Adam is still there with the other A-listers. And, after all, Queen did start RIR years ago.
