Call it by any reference or name...friends, lovers, old flames, ex-flames...it eventually boils down to whether two people love each other *unconditionally. The last *word is the key and I guess Adam and Sauli may not have reached that stage; maybe some time in the future or they may already have, but not manifested openly. To me terminology is only skin-deep, it's the heart and brain...and so only they know the real thing. 'A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.'

By the way, this picture conjured up my story: Two hearts inscribed on a sunken treasure. When I read back my story, I thought it was symbolic, though not meant to be while writing it. The sunken treasure represents their unmanifested love which is actually the treasure buried in the Baltic seabed...intact, but buried. So one day, these two gentle Vikings (my story reference) may or may not make another dive to retrieve their sunken treasure, dependent on circumstances.
Two persons said they loved the story, namely Shelagh and Kindred. Thank you.

Please scroll if you have already read it.

Viking Bert set sail across the Baltic...Ahoy! bellowed his Viking shipmate, Saul. They had just conquered a battle in Helsinki and now heading in the direction of Stockholm. The Baltic Sea was littered with huge sharp icebergs; both Vikings were experts navigating these choppy dangerous waters. Occasionally, a curious humpback whale surfaced to greet them and lively dolphins flipped and swam away under the icebergs.
Saul was looking through his long-range binoculars while Bert was steadily navigating.

Hey Bert...Come take a look!

What is that bobbing up and down the choppy waves.

A hand ! waving an sos red flag ! Whoa!

Viking Bert steered towards the sos signal. As they approached, they saw a man lying on top of his overturned dinghy.
Viking Saul immediately put on his diving gear and leapt into the icy water. Deftly, he pulled and secured the half-conscious man into his strong arms and swam back to the ship. Bert lowered a rope-ladder and helped both men up onto the deck.
As Saul expertly applied CPR, Bert sang: Bring on all the lights...Let it shine on you...We're together here tonight...Welcome to the show...Welcome to my li-i-ife...life!

Slowly the capsized victim opened his frail blue eyes; Bert's powerful Viking voice touched his brain. He sat up looking disorientated and Bert offered a cup of hot chocolate. The man had left Stockholm on a fishing trip but unfortunately his dinghy hit the icebergs and the waves overturned it.
Bert and Saul turned back their ship to shore a couple of nautical miles away. They took him back to his shack and nursed him back to health.

Early before sunrise the next morning, the two Vikings had a scrumptious breakfast of smoked salmon and mashed potato and freshly brewed Baltic coffee, prepared by their grateful host they had rescued. After the hearty meal, they bade the fisherman goodbye and said they would be back to check on him after their adventure in the high seas.

Yes these two handsome Vikings actually were on their mission impossible to rediscover their sunken treasure which they had buried a long tim ago, in the Baltic seabed.
After many hours of navigation, these do-or-die Vikings located a sound beamed back to them via their sonar equipment. They leapt with joy and soon were in their diving gear, propellers and powerful spotlight; all set for a deep sea-dive into the icy Baltic.

As soon as they reached the seabed, their sonar equipment beeped frantically. They were apprehensive as to what awaited them. Yes, it was the same treasure chest they had buried in the mud and silt years back and was still intact.

They pried it open ! Whoa! Nothing inside ! What happened to those gold trinkets and nuggets?
Now, they really regretted they had not taken all of it; but the Vikings shimmered their diamond rings reassuringly still intact on their fourth finger. That was their best prize of all from their sunken treasure of yore!

As they were about to surface...Hey Bert...look over there!

Aha! That's the one we buried...I remember scratching a heart sign on the side.

Let me check...Saul, look the heart sign still there, so the empty one wasn't the one we buried.

Shaking with excitement, they prised the huge metal lock which flung open. Lo and behold! their sunken treasure lay intact with all the gold trinkets and nuggets! Oooh-la-la! The two Vikings gave each other a hearty hug and high 5. They kissed as the bubbles gushed out their breathing tubes...guurrrrr...

Shall we take all of it?

Maybe some, too much will arouse suspicion from other divers.

The two Vikings buried their sunken treasure again at a more secretive location, under an obscure rock. Bert inscribed another heart sign next to the old one...So now there are two hearts side by side. Mission impossible accomplished!

Loved, love loved your story Lam-My. I felt like an idiot as I read the part where Saul was giving CPR, and Bert stood there and sang, I burst out laughing, as I pictured this, I hope my neighbors couldn't hear me laughing so hard, you see I live alone, my cats did look at me like I had finally lost it. So funny because Saul is the obvious one to give CPR, and of course, what else could Bert do, but what he does best, sing. You have a delightful sense of humor and imagination.

Thank you Anne Marie!
You are spot-on about Bert singing while Saul was carrying out CPR...because I too thought it really weird when I read it later; because when I write stories, I just simply go like a grand-prix racer so I didn't feel the strangeness. I don't think anyone would sing while another person is trying to save someone's life. The best part was Bert's voice woke the unconscious person and less of Saul's CPR. Maybe one paramedic should sing while another carries out CPR under similar circumstance. lol! Brain researchers say the human voice taps into the subconscious. Your cats have a great sense of love for you...your laughter tapped into their subconscious. They must be thinking...Mama has gone mad! lol!

Hi Lam-My
I don't know where your inspiration to write these wonderful words comes from, but you are a truly talented person, keep writing and entertaining us with these fabulous stories x

That is a very good question because sometimes I think I'm not the person writing these stories; perhaps an invisible force is pushing the computer keys. lol! My computer is very near the window so I can see the sky, the sun, the moon, stars and planets; Oh, only Adam and Sauli can dig out these stories. lol!
Thank you very much Shelagh ! for your constant encouragement.

Hi Lam-My!
You have an intriguing and fun way of storytelling. Sometimes I also sense another story told sub-consciously in the written one:))). I love that about your stories. Your lovestories have a wonderful light(hope) in them, Thank you Lam-My.

Thank you very much Kindred !
I've never written love stories before; like I said, it started quite by accident when Sauli popped into Adam's life or the other way round. And their real love story seems so ethereal, unending...sometimes on, sometimes off, sometimes don't know where lol! Mmm, where will it take us. If they actually decide to get hitched, I might even have to write about their kids. lwl! So far my magic wand has transported them to Mars, Planet Fierce, the Baltic Sea, Runyon Canyon, Hollywood Hills, Lapland, Aurora Borealis, Burning Man, building castles in the sand, and even fought with Dracula. lol! Thanks Kindred.
