OMG he's obliterated all his beautiful freckles.

I thought I saw a tattoo there on his "traffic sucks ball" snap... my youngest son and I went today to get tattoos to honor my mom his grandmother, different of course. He's getting one to honor his other grandparents as well. I like hearing the stories behind why people get them, sometimes sad, happy or deep, always a story behind them though....

Maybe the tattoos are, to a large extent, meant to obliterate his freckles (which I believe he disliked). He certainly must have had the freckles removed from his face.

Oh those fade with time. My son who is also a redhead had loads (so cute) but they faded over the years. He to has several tattoos as well. It's weird as Adam and my son are the same age, just a week apart, their hair is very similar in color. Sort of partial to redheads, runs in my family.

Lots of tattoos in my family .. hubby ... sons .. son-in-law ... daughter ... granddaughter ... I'm neither impressed nor distressed by them ... they're just an individual expression of art!! They certainly don't change the persona of the ones who have them!! And I don't love any one of them any less because of them!!

As long has he keep his face and neck clear tats, I'm fine with them. I think he said once that he wouldn't get any on his face. I think he's pretty fond of that face just the way it is.

Agree, love the arms, and whatever, just not the face or neck.

No! No!

I agree with the obliterate the freckles theory.

I loved his freckles. My opinion is that there are two many tattoos. Some that meant something in his life were intresthing. Always what is too much trouble.

Not keen on tattoos personally. I wonder how often people later learn to hate theirs, and wish they hadn't gotten them. Unfortunately, tattoos are SO permanent! And Adam once said to an interviewer that a recent tattoo had "no meaning,...I just like triangles". He DOES seem to lean more toward designs than "commentaries".

I do not like the new tattoo It's like an embroidery that grandmothers put on the table. In my country are called "mileuri".

As a believer in everything in moderation, I worry about the long-term effects of excessive tattoos (and I consider Adam to be in that category). Skin is one of our major organs, not sure that it was meant to be "inked" in as much surface area that we are seeing nowadays. There is a study out that suggests unknown long-term effects as the inks contain metals that will eventually settle in the liver.

From a vanity point of view, tattoos over youngish skin will eventually be tattoos over wrinkled sagging skin, thereby reinterpreting the original "art".

@Anonymous8 .... thanks for that information.

I wonder what Adam will do when tattoos become "uncool". Maybe he'll be happy with them forever. I believe it's a painful procedure to have them removed.

@fluttsp......you make a very good point.

Every generation finds it's own cultural expression, and although tattoos have been around forever, this generation has embraced them and made them an industry. JMO, I think excessive, over the top tattooing is a passing craze that will fade - just like fashions. Celebrities drive trends, and they are probably ready to move on to the next thing.

As invention is the mother of necessity, I am sure health related entrepreneurs are already working on new techniques for quick and painless removal of tattoos. They may become the next big business trend.

Or....tank tops and sleeveless tees will go out of style....and long-sleeved shirts will become the new "IN" fashion.

Anonymous said...

I don't think tank tops and sleeveless tees will go out of style, particularly not in tropical & sub-tropical climates .... and there are those who like their tattoos to be on display & what better place display them than on the obvious places, arms & shoulders.

Anonymous said...

^^Oops! Should read 'what better place to display them .....'

Nanbert said...

fluttsp...you misunderstood me.

Anonymous8 suggested that tattoos might become a passing craze, out-of-style, and the next big trend could be tattoo removal.

I continued in that vein, and suggested that long sleeves would then become "IN" once tattoos went out of fashion... i.e. tank tops and sleeveless tees would go out of style IF tattoos went out of fashion...because people would then wish to hide the tattoos on their arms and shoulders.

I explained myself awkwardly, I guess. That won't be the first time,LOL...nor the last.

Nanbert .... in summer, there are people - both men & women - who often like wearing tank tops & sleeveless tees in the hope of keeping the heat at bay and/or for fashion's sake. Wearing long sleeves in summer to cover tattoos would surely lose its appeal after a while. Anyway, that's for those who have tattoos to sort out for themselves - to cover up or have their tattoos removed, if they so desire.

fluttsp...when I was young, tattoos were looked down on...and considered not remotely classy....probably because usually only the "rougher elements" got/displayed them. It was kind of a young "tough-guy" macho thing...biker types. Also, most tattoos then were crude, and unattractive.

The problem for many men, as they grew older and became business men, they were embarassed for those tattoos to be seen, because they gave the impression of a rougher, sometimes criminal, type to people....while they were working on being "pillars of society".

So...they covered the tattoos whenever possible...long sleeves, collars, etc., rain or shine, summer or winter...sometimes used bandages...or got crude removals that left a lot of scarring, which was more acceptable than the tattoos.

So you see, like many things that run in cycles, tattoos seem to come and go in popularity.
The desire to get and display them is very popular now, but it may change some day so that everyone will want to remove or hide theirs.

Although, many tattoos are more artistic and interesting these days than in earlier times, so people may never again feel so strongly against them as they once did. And, so many tattoos these days cover a lot more territory than in the olden days, so then it would be much harder to cover them.

I prefer NO tattoos... agreeing with Anonymous 8 that they may lose their charm and artistry as the skin loses its elasticity...LOL.

Anonymous said...

@Nanbert .... we agree .... I prefer NO tattoos too.

I saw a guy the other day who had tattoos on every part of him that was visible including his skull, face, ears, neck, hands & feet. Maybe tattoos are a cry for "LOOK AT ME" & if so, it works, even if the looks are in horror.

Nanbert said...

fluttsp...haha...I'm sure THAT guy was conveying "LOOK AT ME"....or.... maybe he was HIDING behind those tattoos, because he felt HE was hideous (maybe he even was)!

Whatever his reasons, don't you wonder if he ever regretted doing it?...or did he remain always pleased with his decisions?

That must be somewhat similar to the reasons people keep getting plastic surgery makeovers... some to look like Barby or Ken Dolls as one example.....HIDING THEMSELVES.

Sad!
