Earlier today, The Recording Academy has announced its Special Merit Awards recipients and this year's Lifetime Achievement Award honorees include Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris, Louis Jordan, Queen and Tina Turner.

Queen: The British band that has been together over 40 years. Their chart-topping singles place Queen in the Top 10 of all-time iTunes sales. The band has received multiple Ivor Novello Awards, an MTV Global Icon Award, and two recordings enshrined in the Grammy Hall Of Fame. Recently, Queen became the first artist ever to sell more than 6 million copies of an album in the U.K. with their Greatest Hits album. The band tragically lost their talented frontman Freddie Mercury in 1991, but still remain one of the most beloved bands in rock and pop history. Today the group consists of John Deacon, Brian May and Roger Taylor, but are joined in concert by Adam Lambert.

Well, this is something cool to look forward to this summer! A presentation and performance? I wonder what that means? It will be interesting to see which other performers/bands, etc. will be honored.
BTW, whoever wrote the article didn't fact-check very well. John Deacon is no longer an active member of Queen. The article made it sounds like he is.
This event will give Adam some more QAL media attention, which is always a good thing!
I suspect when they mentioned John Deacon they perhaps meant that he one of the original members of Queen who are still living.
And as to who will be performing at the summer performance/concert. The list of honorees in the linked article is fairly extensive so will be interesting to see who will be actively participating, especially in the concert itself.
Don't forget, these are awards being given by the "Grammy/Recording Academy". John Deacon is included because he was IN the recordings.
Actually, there's no way to know if Adam will even be there with Queen, since he has never recorded with them. I hope he will be, since he is such an enormous factor in Queen still being alive today.
Let's keep our fingers crossed that Queen will be performing, because Adam will then need to be there...front and center!
Should be an exciting event no matter how it's done. (Thanks for pointing out that John Deacon inclusion. It occurred to me that it MIGHT be that he was mentioned because he was an original member, but I wasn't sure. I think you're right.)
I hope that QAL will be one of the performing acts. The more Adam Lambert, the better!
Humm....wonder if John Deacon will attend.
Doubt it.
I think it suks that John is listed first. Not only does he seem to have retired after Freddie died, but Brian and Roger have been working hard to keep the legacy going. The least any writer could do is give them top billing. I'm sure legally John Deacon is still considered 'the Rock group'.
Not holding my breath ... I'd rather be thrillingly surprised rather than heart-breakingly disappointed!! This old heart has had enough let-downs in the past!! I only hope (pray) that ADAM will be performing with QUEEN if/when they do perform at the Grammy's .... it's just about ... *TIME FOR MIRACLES* ... 'dontcha' think??

There is at this time no information about Queen (+ Adam Lambert) performing at the actual Grammys program at the end of this month. There is also no info at this time about an appearance (be there at the Grammys but no performance) there but it’s certainly possible. As to whether or not John Deacon might make an appearance at either event (Grammys or the “summer concert” referred to in this announcement regarding the Lifetime Achievement Award presentation) remains to be seen. He has remained in the background ie not participating in events or performances for many years after he officially retired from the band.
I would think that Adam would probably not be involved in the presentation of the award per se (but maybe??) but certainly would front the band in any and all performances by Queen.
Just my personal thoughts and opinions here. I could be completely wrong!!
Just as an example of a similar situation, in this case the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: The band Heart was inducted a couple of years ago. All of the founding/original members were included and participated in the event and also performed together for the first time in years. The Wilson sisters who have been there all along were joined by the Fisher brothers, Roger and Mike, who had left the band. All members who contributed to the music and legend were honored. No doubt it will be the same for Queen, including posthumously, Freddie Mercury.
Now we wait for more news re the Grammys show and the presentation and the promised summer concert!
CONGRATULATIONS Brian, Roger, Freddie & John .... so well-deserved & way overdue imo. :-))))
It would be nice if Adam could present or introduce the honor.
Blu ...interesting thought!
It'd be great if John Deacon were present at the event. He was an integral part of this awesome foursome but he seems to prefer staying out of the limelight.
