Adam Lambert Featured in Ratatouille Virtual Benefit Event, weekend of January 1, 2021

Adam Lambert and a cast of stars will appear in a brand-new digital concert version of the Disney/Pixar animated motion picture, Ratatouille, which was collectively created by hundreds of fans of the film on the social app TikTok.  Among the dozens of other artists joining Adam in the event, the cast will feature Tituss Burgess, Ashley Park and Wayne Brady.  Burgess will play Remy, the "starring rat" from the movie, and Adam plays his older brother, Emile.  The artists will be backed by the 20-piece Broadway Sinfonietta orchestra.

The event will be webcast for 72 hours from Friday, January 1 to Sunday, January 3, 2021, beginning at 4pm Pacific / 7pm Eastern and will benefit The Actor's Fund, which supports not just actors but anyone who works in the entertainment industry around the country.  The Actor's Fund has been around for decades but has been in particular need this year due to the pandemic, which has decimated  the livelihoods of workers in live entertainment of all kinds from theatre to clubs to concerts and more and.

Minimum donation for access to the streaming event is only $5 — however, you are free to contribute more, if you wish — and is available from the ticketing company, TodayTix.com (link below).  Your purchase will include instructions as to how to access the webcast.

...obsessed fans took to musical theater TikTok to craft a musical from scratch based on the 2007 Pixar movie about a rat who loves to cook.

“It started as a joke,” (songwriter Blake) Rouse told Rolling Stone. “And then people sort of started saying, ‘Hey, check this out. This could be the song, this could be the dance numbers, these could be costumes.’ People started to become invested in this TikTok musical theater baby everyone’s collectively taking care of.”

I'm not a part of TikTok but it always sounds like great fun going on. I expect this will be too.
I'm hoping for clips and vids to be posted on twitter.

Patria...Would LOVE to see this! I'm not a part of TikTok (whatever that is)....but not on Twitter or Instagram either. Can I hope for videos on Youtube?...anyone know?

It will be like a reader's theater. You will see the actor's reading the parts, not the actual animation. Anyway, that's how all the other pandemic readings have been.

More tweets that might help someone here access this event.

Sorry for asking but the event isn't on TikTok then? I don't have TikTok and I have no interest in joining TikTok, that's why I'm asking because I would love to see it but I won't join TikTok.

Not on TikTok! It will be streaming online!

Will it be a voice-over to a cartoon, like Adam has done before?.....or singing/speaking in person?.... and costumed for the part?

Good questions Nanbert. I just hoping he doesn't look like a rat.

Guys, it's not 100% clear how they're going to present the "Ratatousical," as they've nicknamed it, but it will most likely be each of the cast members at their own homes singing one or two songs, or some songs in unison, and there will likely be some graphics that accompany some of the songs. I'm sure they will do some of those fancy tricks with Zoom that a lot of productions have done of late, a la the opening to The Brady Bunch, where they are very creative with all the squares of each person popping in and out and around the screen as they sing.

I highly doubt that they had the time to do full-on animation, and I doubt Disney would have allowed it anyhow. I'm sure it was already a little bit of a mess working with Disney to get this far. But they likely are allowing stills and clips to be shown while the singing is occurring.

I would say that this is all a sort of "works-in-progress" and, who knows, maybe it will be the genesis of an actual Ratatouille musical on Broadway (not saying that Adam would be included in that, however).

The ticketing page at TodayTix also does not have much information on the format except to say the following:

"Ticket Delivery

You will receive an email with a streaming link from the theater two hours prior to the start of the show."

So, some video streaming website will host the event where you will watch.

No, you don't have to have TikTok to watch the event — that's simply where all the people who have contributed to this came together to put forward ideas and, particularly, new songs to coalesce into the musical presentation. But the actual event is just on some streaming service.

Funny, this thing where people all come together to do a creative project is something that Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been doing for years with his website HitRecord.com. I'll bet he would have loved to have been involved. However, there are millions of people who come and contribute on his site and I'm guessing this was just a few hundred that came together in a special TikTok musical theatre room. But not entirely sure.

It's a very exciting project, though, and MAJOR KUDOS to whomever was involved in casting it and not only chose Adam to be in it, but gave him one of the major roles. We LOVE that, don't we...?!?

Well thanks for the explanation broddy. By chance can you guess how long this is? An hour? Or Two? Same with me, not on tic toc even though people are saying its a big deal, hoping for videos of Adam's parts. :)

Yes, thanks broddy. That makes things much clearer! I don't want to miss this, and will purchase my ticket, and wait with great anticipation...and curiousity....forthe program. Very exciting! Also, it's for a good cause. Hope Adam gets a lot of action...and, yes, we will LOVE that!

That Sharka pic is so cute! I'm still a bit fuzzy on how this show will be performed, but we'll see. Love that Adam is involved in something very high-profile. This morning, my Chicago Tribune had quite an article on this show. And a pic of Adam with the two other leads. Yay!

There is so much hoopla about this on twitter it just makes my heart happy that Adam is in the spotlight for the end of 2020 and the beginning go 2021. Even a tweet from BBC. And all entertainment media, magazines and even local news stations. Woo Hoo! Adam even trended in the pop music category yesterday.

Nanbert said...

broddybounce....is it possible that Adam was one of the collaborators/instigators?...if he wrote the song/songs he's singing? You comment that he was "chosen" for the part, which suggests that the musical was already a fait accompli.

This is so exciting!

A songwriter named Blake Rouse wrote Adam's song. I saw a video of him on Adamtopia talking about Adam and the song he wrote for him. There is also a clip of Blake singing a bit of the song himself. It's very cute and clever.
