Adam Lambert has some questions!

Adam tweeted this a few hours ago:

"Question: Is visibility a form of advocacy? Is being un apologetic enough of a statement on it's own or does one have to wave a banner or stand on a soapbox to make a difference? Isn't being proud of who and what you are leading by example? :) just wondering... "

Love that picture. DADT bill defeated. Perhaps he was referring to that. He supports it by being himself without shouting about it. He was at a military base signing. Coincidence? Whatever - I am all for Adam making the statement by being who he is. He has made a difference in so many people's lives! No soap box needed. Hope DADT will come up again after November election.

My wording in 9:25pm sounded like Adam supported the DADT but hopefully you know what I mean that he wants it overturned. Lady GaGa held a rally, but he lives the example and that speaks volumes.

No.

Possible but it's subjective /// Absolutely not.

Yes

I think perhaps this tweet was kind of all encompassing about the past several days, including everything going on with the DADT rallies. That's just my lil old humble opinion.

Adam leads by example showing love, understanding, compassion, kindness. That is the best way to lead. No banners or soap boxes are necessary and do not necessarily show the love and guidance that Adam does by his example. We all know exactly where Adam stands on many issues and we know that he is sincere and loyal. Adam, please continue to be your kind, wonderful self. Love and God's blessing on Adam always.

Thoughtful question from Adam. I think in some cases, a person can lead by example. However, in other instances, it is not possible. Whether Adam wanted to be a leader or not, the fact is that hs is walking in uncharted territory. He is inspiring us because he is so darn honest. Everything he does or says has the possibility of being controversial. I think he's handling everything just fine. He uses Twitter to tell fans and anyone else what happened from his point of view. Don't think he needs to do anything else at this stage in his career. Has it really been almost two years that I've been a fan?

OT but...Love that picture of Adam as it shows what I have always said he has.....grey/green eyes, not blue. Mine are the exact same. They're grey in this pick because he's surrounded by grey tones. Throw some green into the mix and they'll be green.

Adam's question confuses me a bit. Wasn't MacAss of E's Daily10 unapologetic?

Absolutely Adam...I believe that example and actions make the strongest statements. You are a gift from the universe, dear man, follow your heart. Chris Weller (ShimmerDream)

YES is my answer. One will act when one feels compelled to do so. It was in fact PERFECT that Lady Gaga took on the role of spokes person for DADT but even that didn't make any difference. I see in my own community that everyone has a role that they play in helping others. Adam's role is HUGE in that he is by example, changing people's minds about being gay. This is HUGE and important.
Do what you feel you can do and as always, just walk the walk. God bless!

Your questions, I believe, are rhetorical, and of course it should be enough Adam, just by being you--a supreme artist who is proud, unapologetic about your sexuality, you bring out of the shadows and shine away our fears, reservations, trepidations. Through your song and light, you make us begin to see the truth of our frailties. We who have been altered thank you for the example of courage and compassion against the ignorance and prejudice you must constantly face. You are a bold soldier in this good fight, and singlehandedly, in such a short time, you have left in your wake people who can now take pride in who they are, who accept people as they are, who appreciate our infinite variety as human beings as we are all meant to be: unique individuals that can always be better if given the chance. Adam, you are doing what you are meant to be doing on this earth, and the world is so much better off and because of you change is acoming--change not just for the better, but for our ultimate and happy enjoyment. Adam, you have done more for the cause not only of gays, but for the cause of each and every individual yearning for acceptance and respect. For this, you are an inspiration for all of us to be a better person just by being your bold, courageous and true self. Cheers, luv.

I think Adam is following the right path just by being open and honest and being himself. Some people in the gay community have taken him to task for not being more political, but to me Adam's life right now is a political statement. He should do what he does best-be a singer and an entertainer. And his overall message-one of fun, inclusion, no matter what your age, gender, race, orientation-that's also a big statement, and one that is sorely needed.

And look-Adam should speak out when he feels moved to do it. Sometimes you should let things go, and other times, injustice should be pointed out.

What I hope is that eventually, Adam being openly gay becomes a non issue. Which is as it should be.

Anon 11:06, after reading and re-reading several times, that's how I took it also.I thought it was about E's Daily 10.

Adam makes a difference every day just by being Adam.

I think Adam's question is very deep and could be taken different ways. If we are referring to what Adam has had to endure the last several days, then the answer is definitely yes. Adam is a living example of a person pure of heart who is what he is day after day. It seems to me that he has always been brave and courageous in his young life when it might have been easier for him to be less brave. By his amazing life, others have been lifted up and try to be like Adam and recognize how he has helped the cause for human decency by taking ignorance to task when he sees it. His every step in life has been a victory for all of us.

However, if we take Adam out of the equation, there are the fake people amongst us. Those are the ones who try to deceive and use others to further their own agendas. These people have always been around. Usually they are unable to continue their "brave" act and are eventually found out. This is NOT to say that there are not truly good people who do indeed work for the advancement of humanity (Lady Gaga).

Then their are the good people who do nothing. These people laugh when others make offensive remarks because they are weak and don't want to be singled out. They would not offend on their own, but their lack of real character makes them mute. They are the real dangerous ones who can be led astray. Evil wearing a mask?

Sorry for talking so much. I'm just saying..........

Adam you are following the right course, by being an example of tolerance, kindness ,and by speaking out for yourself when you are attacked. You are a light that others are now following.

You have to fight bigotry almost every hour of every day and you do so with an iron fist in a soft glove.
You are a living example of how to fight prejudice.. There are more people now fighting for gay rights because of your presence.

Don't ever change Adam ,you are greatly loved ,respected and followed.

Adam, I think you're doing it perfectly ...

Banners and soapboxes tend to turn people off.

By continueing to be what you are, a polite, articulate, kind young man it will speak volumes for your "cause".

Your amazing talent and natural kind demeanor will win over so many more than anything anyone else will do or say.You have quietly set a great example.

Stay above the fray and keep being the fine young man your parents have raised so well.

I come from a minority that is discriminated against as well and so I am very familiar with the political and philosophical questions that Adam is posing. When you are in a minority that faces discrimination, you ask yourself these questions every day. I went for a couple of decades thinking hiding was the best approach, and that I succeeded simply by not being found out. Now I understand the importance of visibility. One thing I have l learned being visible is that while I am being revolutionary in my own life, others are simply being the same as usual. So when I get on a soapbox, they just go, "huh, what are you talking about? Why are you so intense?" The fact that they are discriminating against me is not on their radar because they aren't insightful about the issue, and so when I act in a radical way, they just view me as peculiar if not annoying. They seem to experience it as a form of arrogance or as an attempt to impose my views on them and become resentful. In a sense, this is because they have a long way to go, still, in their journey to understanding. So the question is how to transform perspectives without alienating. I do have a problem with cutting back on who I am in order to appear mainstream and I feel the need to insist upon my right to be offbeat and wild and crazy and not find myself in the position of thinking I have to edit who I am in order to further the cause. I've seen the consequences of that and it is very stifling. What I think is that you have to consider the context--sometimes, if you are in a group of your peers, you might make comments that reflect a revolutionary consciousness; if those remarks filter out into a group of people who aren't thinking that way--fine. When Adam spoke out at the GLAAD awards and said we have to learn to accept diversity in our community (that's my recollection of what he said) it made sense within that context and filtered out from there. On the other hand, were Adam at a signing and kept on making remarks reflecting a desire for social change when folks just want to admire his new outfit, I think it wouldn't make sense and would alienate folks. So it is a matter of tuning in to how you feel, being mindful of those who are around you, sensing the "wave" (there is a tide in the affairs of men when taken at the flood, lead on to fortune, etc., etc.) and knowing when to catch. There is, in a sense, a way in which you are denying other people their rights when you get in their face at a wrong moment, so you have to choose the time and place. And being able to do that well has to do with being in touch with who you are, celebrating who you are, being authentic, and maintaining your humility, showing that sense of emotional and intellectual awareness that Adam has shown himself capable of. I do believe that calling people out on their bigotry is a must. I have stood aside and said nothing when folks made comments that were dripping with prejudice. I still have trouble forgiving myself for that. So, if I were Adam, and I felt I couldn't live with myself if I didn't speak up, I'd definitely get out there and say what you have to say. Our greatest artists were social revolutionaries; it goes with the territory.

I think Adam's statement about being unapologetic refers to his performances on the stage and even maybe the AMAS. He's not talking about the guy who made jokes about jail. That guy should apologize. I think it is really sad that the DTDA bill was defeated. I am so sick of arrogant politicians who only seem to care about how much money they can accumulate in office instead of actually helping people.

Every photo of Adam is gorgeous but this one is extra, extra special & very beautiful. :)

I am not sure what Adam means here. I only know that I saw a sold out crowd in Puyallup, Washington last night. I go to concerts there every year and have NEVER seen it packed like that with people of all ages, sizes, shapes, colors...and orientation. That is a statement in itself, Adam. I am a gay activist as some of you know, and I have to tell you that the responses I read to the apology to the LGBT community brought tears to my eyes. Everyone was saying "Hey, I'm straight and I need an apology! I was offended by that comment the DJ made!" My question...Who apologized to Adam?
Anyway, I will post later about the amazing night I had...and the amazing people I met from this site. Adam, as a teacher I know that the best way to teach anything is by setting an example...you don't need a soapbox..you are doing it PERFECTLY. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

There are many reasons people are homophobic. Some are raised by ignorant parents so their offspring are ignorant. Some are just malicious like Mike Catherwood on the Daily 10 and Fred Phelps of Westboro Church. Some are homophobic for political reasons. Some are homophobic from fear of the unknown and change. Some are because they are closet homosexuals and loathe themselves. It is also a symptom of paranoia in mental illness; I know this because my son is schizophrenic and when his medication quits working his paranoia includes homophobia. (This is one of his triggers that he knows immediately seek help.) When properly medicated he identifies with them as being a minority that are ridiculed and mistreated. Since there are many causes of homophobia there should be multiple approaches to rid the world of it. Lady GaGa and GLAAD do a wonderful job both politically and vocally calling out transgressors. Laws should be passed and enforced for those like Catherwood and Fred Phelps. Education is so important and Adam is doing one of the most important kind of education - informing, teaching and eliminating barriers by EXAMPLE. Sometimes living as a proud, articulate, talented, kind and loving person can't be denied or criticized by any type of homophobes - Adam Lambert does a wonderful job of this.

My take, it was a generalized statement. The wheels of justice turn slowly. Used out of context, but true all the same. Adam is making a difference in word and deed--give it time.

Yeah, you have wave a banner or stand on a soapbox to get Adam's attention

Dear 11:06 commenter, I think that what Adam means by not apologizing is much deeper, the same as a previous comment of his: "I refuse to apologize for my existence."

And that is as profound and meaningful as anything could ever be.

Adam......you are a perfect example of walking the walk.......so many people will respond to daily deeds before they will respond to someone right in thier faces. You are living life correctly and it is being noticed. I know you have to be taken aback when remarks are made to you like from the pap, when jokes are made by "comics", and when suddenly something like the DADT vote comes and fails it has to be like a kick in your gut. There you are signing autographs at a base on a day everyone should have been celebrating the world moving ahead in our laws, not backwards. It was a long week for you......after a long and tiring concert tour the last week home in the states was riddled with nasty behavior and disappointments. You are a great example for all of us to follow. We love you baby...you are doing it perfectly!

thanks for the heartfelt and intellegent responses but please stop with the gaga crap. This woman is a fame whore who shows up at her own sisters graduation dressed in see thru pants and a hugh veiled hat, and goes to baseball games in a bikini! So over rated and to see her name mentioned in a post about Adam is disgusting. She does nothing in the public arena that is not calculated and for her own self promotion! What a phony!
