Just listened different versions of this song on youtube. I wasn't imoressed at all. Also, this is 2009 song. Adam wrote more that 30 songs . This is really strange that 'Better Than I Know Myself" is his first single. Also, this is strange he even included this song in his new album:(

Are we sure that Claude Kelly's song is actually the same as the one Adam cited? I mean, it sounds like every other R & B song of the millennium. Everyone who has heard Adam's new songs has raved about how it will blow your mind it's so good. This song does nothing for me at all. Maybe the one he's doing has the same title, but is not the same song.

I listened to Claude's version too. Well, it wouldn't be what i would expect for the "mind blowing" single we've been waiting for but to give credit where credit is due, if in fact Adam has chosen this for his single, the melody is nice and with Adam's range I can hear him hitting those high notes with ease and power. Why did he delete his tweets? Why would he use a song he didn't even co-write?

well Adam's sure getting how everyone feels.. I really love the song and think if this is his first single,it will be great. He never said he wrote all of the songs on the new album and he did say this CD would show more of who he really is.. I'm thinking the words must be meaningful for Adam. So you can just imagine how he will convey the emotions of the lyrics.. Just saying ..

Remember this first single has to be real radio friendly and climb the charts. His next song can be more adventurous. Read that a dj in U.K. loved the song Trespassing that Adam wrote with Pharell. In the end it was agreed this was more radio friendly. I have total faith in Adam!!!

I thought Adam's first song was going to be more upbeat, more radio friendly, something to get us dancing. He was receiving high praise from some of the best in the music business as they worked with him on the second album. If this is the first single, it does nothing for me at all. I thought it would be amaaaazing, mind blowing...but we will just have to wait and see now. I hope Adam straightens things out because I don't want to be disappointed with this first single after waiting so long for its release. At least he will be seen on the AMAs on Sunday in the audience and as a presenter. Maybe he will mention something then about the new album and single.

There is no way Adam would leave the song like this if indeed it is the first single. He has said he has a knack for doing bridges so he will probably change a lot. The words are beautiful and emotional and Adam will kill it!!! Have faith everyone,he has been reworking his songs till he thought they were perfect and album worthy!

Don't know why Adam chose this old song as his first single. It doesn't do his voice justice at all. Or may be he has changed it up? I hope so.

Adam explained on his Twitter that the tweets removal was an accident. Said the release date for the single will be announced soon!

Adam will do this song HIS way which means the AMAZING way.I am getting frustrated with some of the negative comments from just hearing a demo ,if this is even the correct song. I believe it is because the same lyrics he tweeted a few months ago are in it. We are Adam fans and should trust his judgement. Adam has learned a lot the past 2 years. He needs a mainstream song for his first single that will get radio play. Keep the faith everyone! There will be some that love and some that don't. I loved WWFM, some didn't but it gave him a Grammy nomination and put him on the charts worldwide.

Boy, am I surprised by some of these posts. I listened to Claude Kelly sing the song before I looked at the posts. I really like the song! The lyrics are really "Adam" to me and the melody is lovely. I tried to hear Adam sing it in my head, and I really believe he will put his stamp on it and make it fabulous! It's a beautiful song with meaningful lyrics. I thought of Adam and Sauli when I heard it. And I thought of Adam and his fans. The song will NOT sound like this demo, I'm sure. I agree that this may have been a "safer" choice than some other songs on the CD, but Adam MUST have a single that is radio-friendly and more mainstream in order to capture an wide audience. I know he will blow us away with HIS version of the song. I like it, and I'm not disappointed at all.

On the Vulture Anticipation Index Adam's album went from #56 yesterday to #4 today! No too shabby, lots of excitement and anticipation!

Adam worked with Rico Love couple of months ago. I would say Adam is aiming for production of Claude's demo to sound more like Nelly's Just A Dream. I don't understand why Americans care so much for an artist to write only his own lyrics or music. Do all great actors write their own screen play? Claude Kelly is a very respected songwriter in the industry with bunch of Grammies under his belt. I love the lyrics of this song and I'm sure we have a different melody than what's on this demo.

I am not sure this song can be nominated. Yes,"What do you want from me" was written by Pink. But she never released it as sinlge. And it was And she wrote it for FYE. Yes, Pink sung it once on her concert in Germany. Most of us were very upset and said that she coudn't sing this song after Adam.

I don't know what to say. I like the lyrics and melody, don't like Claude Kelly's voice. I'm sure if Adam sang it I would like it a lot.....but I am stunned he chose a cover to be the first music to be heard from new album. Remember when the FYE cd first came out? Lots of us didn't know what to think at first. Some of us didn't like it at all. Then we listened and learned and wound up loving every song. We will love it forever. This new single will NOT be the ONLY single to be released from Trespassing. The FYE single wasn't the biggest hit form the FYE cd either. I kinda wish the Claude Kelly version of the song had not been posted. It got us riled up for no reason. And remember, many of the most talented and successful singers in history never wrote a song in their lives. Who wrote it makes little difference when it comes to how a song sells. Adam will make this song his own, as he always does. It's got a beautiful core sound and melody, and the lyrics are truly Adam. I'm looking forward to it.

It's not a cover it was never released it a demo and in the radio world names are important and claude kelly's name is huge there. Why all the hate no one has even heard the song yet this is just a demo and unfinished demo.

Duh! We are commenting on the Claude Kelly song, and many of us don't like it. I'll wait and see what Adam does with it, but right now I can't stand the song, nor can I stand the "great" Claude Kelly's voice. My prerogative.

Thanks to those here who have wisely commented as to the good standing Claude K has in the biz, and as to the plain simple fact that AL's single has to be radio friendly!! I am very excited that AL is going for mainstream charting goals, SNMART! It will only serve him positively. He needs to do well with this sophomore album so he can make a third and a fourth, etc. Only after a successful sophomore album, IMHO, will he truly be able to be somewhat experimental. Right, it's not a cover. It's just a song written by and demod by Kelly. It was never released. I don't hate the song at all. Also, I hear other singers' big hits and they often don't do a thing for me. Don't know why the song becomes a hit, but it does. Most of them seem boring to me. Adam injects such talent into a song. Please try not to hate this song yet. It's Adam's choice for a good reason.

As I recall Claude Kelly had commented that he never comments when working with an artist on a song. Then, he went onto say that he was very excited and that he and Adam were doing "groundbreaking" stuff and taking risks which were mindblowing.

Monte also once said that he would purposely give Adam a song with a melody he hated. Then Adam would turn it into something magical!!

Adam knows EXACTLY what he is doing. Let's trust him and wait to hear HIM SING this SONG!!

Maybe some of you need to realize that this may not have been entirely Adam's decision. Remember all of the delays and vague tweets. All I know is that we all thought the album was ready at one point according to hints from Adam, and then, things changed. And it wasn't all because of the BFM controversy. I'm almost convinced that there was a difference of opinions between Adam and RCA when they heard the final product. Maybe they didn't like Adam's choice for the first single. Maybe they didn't like Adam's original material. Who knows? They went back and changed something!
But, that aside, I listened to the song, and I think it's fine. It has great potential. Adam has probably made this song sound great. I remember hearing "I Just Love You" performed by Five for Fighting and didn't like it at all. Then, I listened to Adam's version of it, and by simply changing the tempo, he transformed it into a beautiful song. Have faith, you crazy glamberts.

Someone on MJ blog posted the following about Kelly's song. One is a demo with Claude's voice the other final link is Kelly's song. Just hear the difference and don't judge book by it's cover. Wait until final product is out.

5:55 you're so right. I love that Clarkson song and it never crossed my mind it was originally an R&B song. The final one is pretty much pop-rock. I'm guessing R&B's just Claude's favorite genre but it will always be the artist's last word and Kelly is mostly pop-rock.

I think this song is awesome. It tells a story of truth about Adam and how his friends know him better than he knew him self. Believe me this would not be on this CD or his first release if it did not express his feelings. Listen to the words and feel it. When it tells it it will come from his heart and it will melt yours too. I am so ready to hear his music. Please have an open mind! At least have a wait and see attitude not a rip him up one side and down the other. Remember Adam could sing the phone book and make it his own and will for years to come. Lots of comments about the potential first single. Adam must be under so much pressure to produce one amaaaaaazing album and the first single that will knock people off their feet. That song has to be radio friendly and get tons of air play. There must be a lot going on in the background with the management team and Adam to make the right decision. The song doesn't necessarily have to be written by him. WWFM was not written by Adam and it was a big hit for him. In fact, I seem to hear it more on the radio in recent weeks(in the NYC listening area) than I did when it was out. Whatever the final choice, I am sure all of his fans will trust Adam's judgment and not be disappointed. Last week it was his appearance with QUEEN, tomorrow the AMAs for him as a presenter and then eventually that new single. All's good in the world of Adam Lambert it seems.

Somebody said that Adam is stupid. I completely disagree. He is the singer who doesn't want to make wrong choices.

I don't pretend. I really like this song. With Adam's voice it could be a bit Robbie William'ish. Robbie is a superstar. There's always demand for his kind of music and Adam could be his successor.

In fact, Adam is the only one who could be Robbie's successor at this moment.

@Anon at 5:01PM - thanks so much for saying what's on my mind. Adam has this unique ability to make me love his take on practically every song that he has covered. Specially those i've never heard before that i would listen to the original and would always end up liking Adam's versions. I'm still ecstatic over how Adam sang TSMGO at the EMAs and no disrespect meant for the Great Freddie Mercury but i honestly prefer Adam's spin on it.

Now the first time i heard BTIKM i immediately liked the tempo and then the lyrics. It is definitely radio friendly and a song that many people could easily relate to. A mind blowing song doesn't necessarily have to be belted out all the time. IMHO this one is great for easy listening. I'm excited to hear Adam's interpretation of BTIKM and i know in my heart that i would like it being the song stylist that he is.

I have never for a second doubted Adam's artistry and mesmerizing voice that any song would sound beautiful the moment he sings them.

I have no problem with this as his first single and i have a feeling that it will get noticed by many radio stations when it is released. It would be difficult to ignore a good product when you see one. I can already imagine his vocals on it.

I'm really excited Adam and i trust your team's judgement. If you had difficulty in choosing the first single, then it's a good indication that this sophomore album has a bunch of great materials again just like FYE.

@8:44 PM Adam is surely aware of all these negativity towards him. That why his album title is TRESPASSING. Trespassing can be interpreted as him being Outlaws of Love but it also can be interpreted as us fans crossing his personal and private boundaries. On one interview after Idol he said that he reads comments on blogs and he wants to yell and say you have no idea with what is happening with my life. Quit judging people. We haven't heard the final song yet. I know for sure it's way way different than this demo. Although I love this demo. I exercised by listening to it on repeat for an hour. Got a good cardio even though it's not an uptempo just by imagining Adam's voice on it and performing it. Can't wait for his album. Look forward to enjoy all of his upcoming projects. I consider myself a lucky fan.

About small venues. I think ADam's management coudn't afford to pay for big venues and so many states and countries.
Actually, like I remember in non-friendly Malaisa, Adam has the biggest venue in 15,000 people.

After all, who can compare Adam with Freddie? Even if Queen performed Jailhouse Rock or Tuttie Fruttie or something else on their tours, then never released somebodie's else song as their single!

@DRG please don't let the negativity get into you :D Well different strokes for different folks! That is all there is to it. Others may not like it but i'm pretty confident that millions will also love it when we get to hear Adam's version.
Besides it's also too early to pass any verdict when what we just heard is CK's demo which i liked so far.

Remember that Adam is a VOCAL GENIUS and such an exquisite song stylist. He can make wonders with every song he tackles. Let them worry and just brush it off. Adam can't please everyone so what else is new. If they have prejudged him just because of this one, then it's their problem not ours nor Adam's.

I can feel it in my bones that TRESPASSING will be even more successful than FYE because of the additional lessons learned in the past years and because of the new fans. I love FYE but it doesn't mean that i can't love his second album. What is there not to love about our Diamond Boy!

I’m sorry friends, I’m so shocked and disappointed and I can’t even read all the comments here. I’ll come back for that later. Whether I’m wrong or not, I’ll be just mean (this time, without enjoying myself).

Are we so willing to eat frozen bread and warmed-up soup now? I mean, I know that we, the so civilized cultures, don’t believe in ambrosia (the food of the Gods!) anymore and pray to the microwave oven (be it low or high-priced), but that would be the weirdest appetizer he ever served to the world. For me, it would top the finger he offered us at the end of the AMAs dinner.

I WILL stay around to witness how the ..Berts will binge on a two-year-old food (repacked in glittered wrapping paper, eventually with rockish black ribbon) and praise its nutritional value and the fresh look. You can all enjoy the macdonaldized music as much as you want. I, for one, like to eat fresh (even raw) vegetables straight from the garden, no matter who’s it is.

Nevertheless, I’m so ready to apologize if all this is just a misunderstanding. And I pray Gods for that!

Thank you very much SG!! You are my most ardent poetry fan. Regarding the demo sung by Claude Kelly...I think this is another strategy for song collaboration between 2 or more singers/writers. Adam listens to the demo but has the right to change both the lyric, tune, beat with Claude Kelly's input as well. And knowing Adam, he will tailor it exactly to suit his vocals, style and personality. Adam being so adventurous and creative, will change up the song so much, it wouldn't even be recognisable as the Claude Kelly version. I think this song will be a smash hit for Adam judging by the powerful notes...he'll deliver. Claude Kelly could have offered the song to Adam knowing he couldn't do it as powerfully as Adam. All these producers,buyers,and music people on here with tons of angst and advice over a record they haven't heard sung by the best of the best singer who can take any song and turn it into an amazing one of a kind event.. Patience before we leap.. Trust in the process. when Adam did songs for the bastard producer ,he did them in a bland manner,because the real singer would add their own personality and excitement to the music. Singers use demos as a way of seeing what they can do with the song,they don't want an interpretation.. they will interpret. Not the finished product.I.E. A sketch being made with the portrait at the end. I feel for Adam because some people jump to conclusions before they know what the music will sound like.The person who gives his all to the song will be Adam ,he has to love it ,it has to have real meaning for him. Everyone on that show is given some type of character to play.. plus some story to profess. But Adam loves POP ,he's said it over and over again.. His choice. So if you don't love POP ,maybe Adam isn't the singer for you.

@GLB famous artists recorded RUMI's poems (he is a 13 century poet) and made it to Billboard's top 20 hits. Mozart's, Bach's and other great musicians of the past their music have been used over and over again. If a lyric or music is nice and enjoyable it will never be outdated. Claude is a very respectable songwriter in the industry. I'm sure there will be tons of changes to this demo. I guarantee you it won't sound like this.

If you don't know by now that Adam can change a song with his beautiful voice and range then you haven't heard "Ring of Fire", "The Show Must Go On" "Mad World". How many times did he change WWFM?

A demo is a demo people. Sung in a somewhat monotone way to just give someone an idea of what the song is...we know Adam will breathe the life into it and make it his own.

2012 is gonna be an awesome year!!! First the single and then the album. Then a tour and will be able to see him in concert. The EMA performance with Queen was awesome. He did great with the tribute. I like Adam's music and his way of presenting it. Sleepwalker sounded so different recorded from when he did it live on tour. So I am happy with whatever Adam puts out on the table. NOTHING GONNA CHANGE MY OPINION.

I comment here not on tastes, nor even so much on nutrients, but on a feeding/eating style. Btw, I also like the taste of some (non-meat) ‘McProducts’... and I absolutely love Mr.A's covers. That’s not my point here. I’m actually talking about ready-to-go food (read music!). If one says to me that he’s spent hours (read months) in the kitchen (read studio) cooking a ‘special’ recipe (sophomore SuperCD) and, when it comes to it, he offers me a precooked meal (read a song written ears ago, no matter who wrote it and how good it is) I just don’t feel so enthusiastic about it, that's all. I care a lot about the chef, I’ll eat his food anyway (at least once), but why all the fuss?
You may say I’m rude (or whatever) when I speak my mind. Maybe so. I’m just like that. I love with my brain (you’d say stomach, if you missed my point again) a bit more than I think with my heart. (And I’m a tall one, with supposedly big organs! :-))

I just read the 157 comments about the new Adam Lambert single. It appears the the majority of fans do not like the song and I certainly agree. I love Adam and his music, but this song is not right-----need a better song that will be played on the radio. This is the only way that he can get exposure and really good management also. Just maybe this is not the new single. Anyway just waiting for the new album and hope I can see him in concert in 2012.

The song is actually quite beautiful even when someone else is singing it. There are several high notes which many male artists could not do. I think we all agree we like those notes from Adam. A slower song like this could be a big hit. I am likening it to hits by Bruno Mars, which are always slow and he's made a name for himself with them. I'm very surprised by how many people don't like this. I just can't imagine not supporting Adam in any music he thinks is the best choice--he has put more thought into this than I've ever seen an artist do before releasing an album.

Adam is a talented performer that happened to be on Idol and do the Idol thing. He never had any plans to become a ROCK GOD!! if he did, he would have sign up with Queen a long time ago. He did what he did, because it fitted Idol's strategies at the time. But guess what? Idol performances are over and so is the Rock ERA. You can't compare the two to make your argument valid. This song is a demo. Do some research to find out what is a demo song mean. Claude and others who worked with Adam on this song in studio have put a different spin on this song. We don't know what it sounds like. Just be patient until its release then we can discuss about it in-depth.

Have you heard of a 2000-year-old date palm seed that, in 2005, actually began to grow? ...Or of the “human's agricultural heritage” that was sent to the Arctic Circle in order to be preserved for thousands of years as a strategic food depositary? Are you also considering the ice/snow/wood art? Have you heard of the destruction of the Library of Alexandria and of so many pieces of art – ancient, medieval, and so on (to talk only about the invaluable works that were destroyed for different reasons over the millenniums, during the WWII or just, maybe, during the last year)? And how about the music in paperless/non-digital or now-disappeared societies? Do you know how Nazca or Inca music sounded like?

My fellow Glambert from Argentian, i admire your honesty in sharing your thoughts with us. But i think it is quite early to be discouraged that way. We haven't heard the actual single yet so may i humbly request you to please give it a chance first before declaring that it sucks.

Adam is indeed very lucky now to be closely working with reputable and knowledgeable people in the business, those who have worked with stars in the music scene now. These people were responsible for the success of a number of popular artists who sold millions of their records and who have charted. That means that Adam is being guided by people who are familiar with some formula for commercial success as mentioned by @ANON at 7:19am. Adam somehow needs it for his longevity in the industry.

So i believe it is too early for any of us to say that Adam's single will be a total flop. Besides i don't really know if there is anyone here who is qualified to be a better judge than all those credible people he has been collaborating with now.

Yes you didn't like what you heard but remember my dear that this is just a demo! The actual single could really sound differently. Sit back, relax and hold your judgement because our Diamond Boy has a habit of surprising
his Glamberts. You might just be thrilled with the finished product.

We ought to have a little faith in Adam. I think he deserves it after all the stellar performances, undeniable passion and hard work he has shown. It is so unfair to him that we are jumping into conclusions and panicking for nothing. The negativity and fears are unnecessary. We should be sending our Diamond Boy positive energies instead.

Gee, some of you people just don't get it. Adam has decided to play the game, shoot for mainstream success, get this songs on the radio and on the charts. I, for one, am happy about that. Although we don't yet know what Adam's version of the song will sound like, the flavor of it is in keeping with what is achieving radio play and chart ranking right now. Jeepers Creepers, it aint that deep.

I for one LOVE the song. I can only imagine what Adam will do with it. Also, it is very radio friendly which is what Adam needs to make it a success. Remember we are talking about ADAMS'S voice. I know it will be great! Keep the faith and let's be a little more supportive of our sweet song bird! BTW Adam was an absolute dream on the AMA's. I loved his little reference to the last time he was there.haha Loved Sauli too!

The shock and disappointment with Adam's first single comes from ignorance of music and the music industry, so I am not surprised that Adam has again elicited such controversy. It's only because we fans are so invested in our man that we have become so sensitive to his every move, and practically, his every breath. How Adam can handle so much pressure, but then, only the strong survive.
I've listened to this song, and I've gone through the emotions of fear and trepidation on listening to this song. You really have to pay attention to the melody, because it has at least two touching strains that pulls at my heart strings, so beautiful they are. With Adam's imprimatur on this song, we fans should have confidence and rest easy, as the combination of a beautiful song with the best song stylist in Adam, given the minimum of air play guarantee a hit, IMHO. Trust this amateur music critic, Adam, his producers and managers know what they're doing. I for one, intend to follow Adam's voice wherever he goes because he has the gift of transforming songs to their sublime best. BTW, I appreciate all your comments, good or bad, because Adam can handle them all, such is my trust in him. To Lam-my, my admiration for your poetic talents, and JAK for her wit and grit, and many more eloquent and opinionated whose comments form my cyber family with Adam as Muse. Love you all. atm

@Bing I believe cold showers are good for everybody’s health (and the ..Berts are so good at giving them, myself included; not so good at taking them though). I rather enjoy cold showers, but I do like to turn it hot at the end of the session. Scottish reversed! Thanks for warming it up for me dear. My spoken-out-loud mind brings me a lot of cold showers!

I read the comments here and I agree with most of you. Actually, I agree with those who said what they felt about this, not with those who said what Adam should do. I definitely don’t agree with those who say how stupid the others are in their feelings. Are our feelings wrong? Shame on us then! Right?

Btw, I like many R&B songs regardless of their positions in charts (As I said before, I don’t really care about genres. I like what I like). I think that commercial success and longevity in music business just partially overlap and sometimes even are tangential. To paraphrase Mombert: success isn’t really the key, but longevity might be a sign of happiness with what one does. I also agree with Dadbert: “Success will be good too”.

OK. I, for one, didn't react to the song itself, but merely to the date it was posted on its author’s YT channel.. that is last year! Yes, I did acted like a self-absorbed individual who turns the hosepipe on thinking of watering the lawn, unaware of the people around who might get drenched. It seemed bad intended, but it wasn’t.
I hadn’t listened to whole song before posting yesterday. This time, I tried to concentrate on the lyrics that some of you like so much. However, it took me like five attempts(!) to overlook the music (I do know what a demo means! Or a cover!) and focus on the lyrics. Let’s just say I’m sure that Adam can make a good song out of it. So then, my feelings about all this haven’t changed much, but maybe I shouldn’t have thrown them on 24/7 table so bluntly. ‘Warmed-up soup’ and ‘precooked meal’ don’t sound too nice, do they? Aaanyway, at both cellular and social level, negative feedback is as vital as the positive one and I’ll stick to that!
