How beautiful is that. It makes your heart go even more fonder of Adam. He tries so hard to give it all every time. Love you Adam.

Goooooooddddd this song is super gay. Why oh why is he singing this publicly?? Tucked away in the album - fine; but part of promotion??? No!! So far none of these so gs s team #1 hit. I think this album is going to tank. Please oh please show something I can get behind.

So much sadness in that song.

Every time I heard that song it's hard to hold the tears. It's really beautiful and sang by Adam, makes it perfect. I really hope someday he could sing it not as a away to fight for his rights, only for the beauty of it.That would mean everybody would have they rights.

To Anonymous 12:32 PM You DICK!!! Get off this site.

It is a beautiful song and he is truely one of the best singers I have ever heard.

Anonymous said...

12:32 here. Not saying its not a pretty, heartfelt song and he has a fantastic voice. You all are part of tvs crowd that cries foul because his songs aren't smash hits. Few people want to hear a gay man su g a gay song. It's the brutal reality. He needs to quit straddling the fence and commit to something. He I'm a huge fan and I'm starting to say WTF at some of these songs.

It sounds like you've been hanging out with the haters a lot. Who cares what they think? Let the man sing what's tugging at his heart.

Anonymous said...

Well, finally I can listen to this beautiful song. In the earlier version with Monte I found the guitar sound so piercing that I found I couldn't listen to it. But, this was beautiful.

Anonymous said...

If only people compassionate toward gay people buy his album, then so be it. He probably doesn't want the haters' money anyway.

Anonymous said...

@12:32 Seriously? Are you a fan? You want Adam to be closeted in his music so you have something YOU can get behind. OMG.

The first time I heard this song I had tears in my eyes. It is absolutely beautiful as Adam performs it. There is almost a spiritual, ethereal quality to it. You could almost feel the pain and heartbreak that this song evokes.I think we all know it will not get radio play because of the lyrics, but as part of Adam's album it belongs there with songs about being true to himself and what he believes in. I have heard 3 or 4 songs now from Trespassing and I can't wait to listen to the complete album once it is released. It may not be for everyone, but there should be several single hits to come out of it.

Just because Adam is gay and sings this song, does not make it a gay anthem. The lyrics can relate to any relationship that is not accepted as the "norm" in society. There are often religious, ethnic, social, racial reasons why two individuals are not able or allowed to be together in our society today. They may be unfair and unjust, but they do exist unfortunately. Adam Lambert has felt the slings and arrows of society because of his sexual preference and will undoubedly continue to be singled out by narrow minded, hateful individuals. I admire him as a very talented, articulate, self confident, witty and charming young man who has the best voice in the music business today. And the beautiful vocal performance of OOL certainly proves that.

A beautiful song and I cry every time I hear it. It is not just for the gay community although it is Adam's personal experience. But can be about abusive relationship like with @3:59 I send you blessings that you can find your way out of your bad relationship. I grew up in a home like that and I did feel like an outlaw when it seemed all my friends had home with security, safety and love. This song reaches out to so many and I congratulate Adam on writing such a song of emotional revelation!

Truly beautiful, heartfelt song delivered in such a tender sensitive manner.
Notice all other songs seem to get a change-up somewhere, a different note or volume or lilt. This one always stays about the same, just less volume on what's usually the big belt.

Have to dissagree with a post above, aside from Adam's gentle delivery and really seeming into the words and emotion with eyes mostly closed, *my FIRST reaction... sorry guys, BOY did I miss Monte on this one. You may all hate him now, fine if he betrayed Adam about the demo album or whatever the beef is, (very sad) but there's no denying that man's ability to play a guitar. Beautifully.

I like Kevin a LOT, he's a good replacement as a musical director and very talented, but this guitar didn't cut it for me, it was scratchy and off in a few notes. I suggest to the poster above I know what you mean about some sharp moments, I noticed them too, but it seemed more to me it was the sound on that youtube recording that picked up the guitar very harsh in places. The guitar PLAYING was beautiful. Just my thoughts.

Well, that song is so beautifully sung and delivered by the incomparable Adam Lambert. It brought me to tears, and that isn't something I am prone to do when I hear someone sing. That song could be for all civil rights. Adam has a universal message. Certainly everyone knows that by now. What an amazing man.

@5:21, I agree about Monte's ability to play the guitar. He is very good. This is not about Monte, it's just the sound of Monte's guitar was too loud for Adam's voice, maybe it was too close to the mic. I just thought Kevin's playing was a little softer and was easier on the ear to listen. That's all.

This song sure Adam wrote it for the LGBT individuals that go through discrimination no matter where they go. But to me this song is for those who go through discrimination because of their gender, nationality, belief, race, etc. Cause no matter where you go if you are different you are called out as an Out Law. Even in your own homeland. I love this song so much and always brings tears into my eyes.

After reading all the good and the bad on here and trying to remain objective I can see (I'm going to take a giant leap of faith and pretend the bad poster is a fan) why some may be "worried". Over on adamofficial, many fans are posting similar thoughts, or giving some critical reactions to youtube videos. The thing is, of course Adam can make any song sound good. The problem is people are too worried about these songs becoming HUGE. So far, maybe what has been heard has not hit that "high note" for some. When we see what is happening to someone like Adele, most of his fans have been waiting for that type of break for several years and have very high hopes. We all know he is capable. So maybe it's hard to just sometimes relax and enjoy the music.

@6:06 PM I too agree with you. I love Kevin's guitar playing. He feels the song and you can hear it when he plays it. Kevin channels a little bit of Carlos Santana when he plays his Guitar.

The lyrics certainly could also apply to interracial marriage/dating, marriage/dating outside ones own religious faith or marriage/dating out of ones own ethnic group. Read recently that a Charleston, Mississippi high school had their very first interracial dance in 2008 (?) thus showing that civil rights for all people can be a loooooong time coming. Very sad. ... @12:32 - It is my suggestion for you to go back to the music you "could get behind" before Adam emerged. Perhaps that would make you happier. There are hundreds of great artists out there who are not (?) gay and who wouldn't offend you.

I remember as a young teen loving Johnny Mathis. Much later when I heard he was gay I still loved his songs and his unique voice. Now I am wondering if "Chances Are" would be construed by anyone as a gay song. We can find anything we choose to if we look long enough.

I'm an Adam Lambert fan because of his voice. It moves me to dance or to shed tears or to just listen and enjoy the moment. I don't care if he is gay, purple, Martian, short, fat or ugly as a fairy tale bridge troll, I'm here for his music and that amazing voice.

I do hope he releases something you like. If he doesn't, it would be a shame for you to miss out on such a fabulous vocalist as Adam Lambert.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. :)))

Anonymous said...

I am also a fan of Adam's because of his voice; he is an amaaaazing musical talent. Add to that his stage presence, sense of style, intelligence, charm, sense of humor, politeness and honesty and you have one very special human being. The word gay never enters into any description I write of him. If you don't like something he has performed or may be on his new album, you are missing out on one of the most talented vocalists in the music business today.

Anonymous said...

After listening to Cuckoo, Chokehold, Outlaws of Love and Trespassing from Adam's new album, I can't wait for it to be released. I want to hear all the songs as produced in the studio. If the acoustic versions are so good, then imagine what the final songs will be. I realize that Adam may have an uphill battle with some of the radio stations and their management, the listening audience, the naysayers and crazies out there, but somewhere along the way, he has to be/will be recognized for his superb vocal talent esp. with all the "garbage" that passes as music today from no talent performers. How could you not recognize this after listening to the quality/delivery/poignancy of OOL?

Anonymous said...

OOL - so, so beautiful but not crazy about the guitar playing. Obvious off notes here and there and too loud for such a heartfelt song. Adam's voice was/is absolutely sublime.

It seems there are some fans who expect too much. Waiting for a HUGE hit? Well, I think Adam is doing very nicely so far and there are people who worry way too much. Believe it or not, there is more to life than worrying about whether Adam has a HUGE hit or not. The music industry is a tough market and even Adele didn't have a HUGE hit for a couple of years. Adam has an awesome voice and he's a hard worker. Let's not let our expectations override everything else.

Anonymous said...

Like others have said,OOL doesn't have to be about a gay relationship. It's very beautiful,& Adam said it's something that he feels was a long time ago in his younger life, not now,as he's very happy with Sauli,& with his present life & career. If the person who keeps posting downers about Adam's songs, etc, etc.would just go somewhere else,I'd be happy!I think she/he has posted many times on one thread some days.To the lady whose been an abusive relatioship,I send prayers to you for things to get better.

glitzylady said...

I love this song, and as many have said, it can be about more than just the gay community. Adam clearly wrote it straight from his heart to convey the sadness he feels when confronted on perhaps a daily basis with the attitudes directed toward GLBT individuals and couples. He has said as much.. He should not have to hide his heart from the world, by hiding this song. It is not a blatant FU song directed at the straight world, just a crying out from the deepest parts of his soul. So beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. I so appreciate that he has shared it with us. I can truly hardly wait to hear the CD version.

I don't really have a comment about the guitar playing..This is not a professional studio version so I wouldn't expect it to sound perfect, although I thought it was fine. What IS perfect each and every time is Adam's voice. He does at times seem to have the voice of an angel...And I really hope that someday he will be acclaimed for his amazing vocal prowess: pretty sure its coming...And to proclaim this song "gay" is certainly not without a certain amount of truth on one level..Adam is gay and this is how he feels.. It could also be described as universal and "human" because most of us have feelings of frustration and sadness. This is Adam's heartfelt offering to us, to help us to understand him just a little more.. In this case, we are trespassing into his deepest emotions. Love and admire him just a little more....and appreciate the fact that he is being so honest and open. Which is one of the things that I find so compelling about him. He hides nothing, shares almost everything..

Anonymous said...

I can hardly wait to hear all the studio versions of Adam's new songs. We've heard the studio version of BTIKM and I LOVE it, and every day is a day closer to the album release. This version of OOL is almost an a cappella and DIVINE.

Anonymous said...

I agree with a lot of you. I teared the first time I heard it and still do. You can just feel the emotions Adam puts into it when he sings it. View it as you may but the song is so good.

Anonymous said...

Ah, for the good old days, when a vinyl album just "came out" without anyone knowing what was on it, and we either liked it or we didn't. No arguing, dissing, hating, over-analyzing, at least not until the album had been out a while. And then we didn't have world-wide forum to bitch from.

I think fans now over-react to everything simply because we have so many far-reaching fan-mates who we can over-react WITH. Good grief, these are just songs, not cures for cancer. They are lovely and well-produced and beautifully sung. Adam is a rising star who has more baggage than the typical singer does, as he climbs his way up the ladder of success. His personal life is so intertwined with his singing, that we cannot separate the two. Many of us love him BECAUSE of his off-stage personality, heart and soul, not IN SPITE of it.
I have been a huge cheerleader for Adam, but even I get so weary of even the most well-meaning worriers and nit-pickers. OOL was written in reference to the gay community, but even Adam has said that it can apply to other groups as well.

Please, everyone, just buy the album when it comes out, love the songs or not, as you see fit, and keep supporting Adam.

It's not that deep.

Among all the songs that thus far have been revealed to us. I first love love love the ones that Adam co-wrote them. OOL, Chokehold, Cuckoo. Then the other two, Trespassing by Pharrell and BTIKM by Claude Kelly. Why RCA doesn't think that Adam is a great song-writer is beyond me. I just don't understand. I'm sure they'll pick Trespassing as for his second single. I like it but not as much as the ones he co-wrote them. Wished his second single would be either Chokehold or Cuckoo! I'm addicted to Chokehold. Can't wait for the album.

But for no other reason, I miss Monte's guitar playing but sadly, the friendship ended and Adam and his band have moved on. I thought the guitar playing for this performance was a little "scratchy" at times but all in all, it was another GLORIOUS performance of this song by Adam. :)

@10:03PM Kidd Kraddick first interview with Adam back in 2010 when Adam was on GNT. As I recall he asked Adam if he wrote any one of the songs on FYE and why his record company didn't pick them as his singles. I believe Adam told him that he isn't an established artists yet and they didn't want to take a chance. Kidd then told Adam, what are the first two letters in word FUN? Everyone laughed and Kidd said that's for your label.

Like so many of you, I also think OOL can be interpreted in so many ways. Adam himself said it has a kind of "Romeo n Juliet" vibe. I never thought of it as ONLY a so-called "gay" song. I see it as just a sad, melancholy love song.

I just appreciate it for the beautiful song it is, sung by a beautiful soul. His voice is unmatched...nobody today can sing like him!

Keep voting on VH1

Anonymous said...

Keep voting in State politics. This song could apply to the civil rights of American women which are being taken away every day by state legislatures. Mostly in states with Rep. Gov.'s and legislatures. It's not just Planned Parenthood that's in danger, abortion rights, contraception, it's ownership of property rights, violence against women rights and the 14th amendment. Rep. appointee Supreme Court Justice Scalia says that amendment against discrimination is not an ironclad guarantee that women cannot be discriminated against.???? This country is at war against women and if you don't pay attention you'll wake up in a burqa. Get a clear picture of the future with Romney or Santorum as president. Women's rights? HAH
Yeah, voting is important, but song position on VH1 is the least of our problems.

@12:32 How would you feel if we took away your right to freedom of speech. You can have all your other rights and pay taxes, but that one (we as a society) will withhold from you.

Well, how unfair would that be?

If you are a songwriter/singer and you are gay you might just write a song about the right you do not share with most of the country you live in. You pay taxes but the right of marrying the person that you fall in love with is denied.

I am heterosexual and I think the song is heartwrenching and beautifully sung. It is the truth.

Don't worry it will never be a single. American is too homophobic for that to happen. Adam can barely get his songs sung because he took the path of being out in the open because it SHOULD NOT make a difference...but it does and his plight is opening the eyes of many. I hope years from now that the gay community realizes his sacrifices for equality too.

Adam has a beautiful voice, no one not even a fan can deny the fact.

He does want to live a dream of being a singer for life. Unfortunatley promoting a song like OOL, he wont gain fans who want to keep it about the music and not have sexuality pushed down their throats.
Because no matter what the meaning, him singing it and telling his story, the full message is what it is.
Adam we want you moving forward and getting into those huge sell out arenas.
Sing your ass of with the not so deep songs.
Maybe keep the more personal ones, just that.

Adam is so heroic and brave to sing his song, "Outlaws of Love", especially since there is no much hatred, even among so called fans for people who are a little bit different. Shame on them. However, I think most of Adam's real fans can appreciate the beauty that is Adam Lambert - the voice and the man, inside and out. For me, "Outlaws of Love" is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Congratulations Adam on being true to yourself. You inspire so many people throughout the world.

It's funny that Gaga could sing Born This Way and it's a big hit. Other singers have sung songs with social and political messages that are much more blatant than OOL. I know Adam wants to maximize his career, but just how much does he have to compromise his soul? It's up to him. He knows what's at stake, and he knows how a song like OOL can have an unfavorable effect on some people. He can make the VALID claim that the song can apply to many kinds of relationships, but the original message of the song will always be to the gay community. Adam will never be separate from this.

Instead of moaning and wailing over the potential negative effect of this song, I'd rather see us praise the song for its intrinsic beauty and for Adam's voice.

To deny Adam the opportunit to expresss his inner-most feelings in his songs (which many singers do, by the way), would be a greater tragedy than him getting negative feedback from this particular song.

How shallow do we think he is, anyway? I think he will give in to "marketability" only so far. He does have a sense of personal integrity.

Adam fights prejudice, fear and ignorance each day on his career journey. I want to help him, not feed negativity. There is nothing mainstream about our guy; his career is atypical. Instead of him having to compromise himself all the time, I think he'll tend to stand his ground, and perhaps
the listening audience will gradually see the light. He's making change happen right now without even realizing it.

It's like Nixon going to China. Kennedy and Johnson could never have done it. Don't like it but such is life.

For me, OOL and BTW are two totally different songs. Even if I didn't know Adam, I would prefer the latter song. Gaga believes it; Adam FEELS it.

10:00 AM -- Totally agree with you about Adam Lambert already having changed the perception of people about LGBT. Because of him (and others more recently), guys and gals feel so much better about themselves and are no longer striving to live a life they were never meant to live.

I 1000 times prefer having Adam Lambert sing a song about the LGBT community than someone like Gaga. He has LIVED that life all of his life. He KNOWS first hand what it is to be singularly pointed out as "different".

He is continually paving the way for younger people who listen to pop/rock to be who they are, to just be happy and have a great life.

GO ADAM! I'M WITH YOU ALL THE WAY!!

and I'll just add one more thing to DRG's elegant post:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMFAiCuxVrs

"...I ain't got BS in my bag, that's the one thing you can believe..."

As anyone who has ever followed this blog knows, I admire Adam's business sense as much as anything else about him (sexy sexy brains Adamluv, right ;)) but yes, concern for marketability can only go so far... seems like Adam chose, long ago now, how he wants to walk the tight rope between mainstream success and his personal convictions. I for one admire his tight rope walking, and I think he's doing a fabulous job of it. I don't think he's perfect, I never have, but I think he's doing a hella good job of walking the tight rope (I mean, duh, BTIKM couldn't be more radio freindly!!!!) Anyway, blah blah blah, I don't know Adam, I can only go by what he puts forth in the public to consume... and you know what they say about opinions ;), but that's mine.

Fans fans fans, you need to relax.
Isnt his message about not being mean to others, and that goes for on fansites too.
Everyone has opinons, respect.

Personally I dont feel Adam should be anyone's poster boy.
He sets examples by living his life.
To much pressure comes with all these territoriees. He should sing his songs first and foremost.
Let everything else fall into place.

Most of the dissenting posts here are inane .. illogical .. and idiotic ... ADAM is who he is & all the naysaying in the world isn't going to make him change as per the lyrics of OOL (WE CAN'T CHANGE) ... And I LOVE ADAM for that reason & more ... too numerous to list here .. you all know them by heart!! PROUD to be a Glambert to the END ... I WON't CHANGE EITHER!!

Anon 5:06AM - SCARED - I've just read thru all the posts here and COMPLETELY agree with your comments! Women's rights are very much at risk with these Republican politicians! You're right - we need to VOTE 'smart' and save our rights! Adam is doing his best to promote gay rights - and 'civil rights' in general. We, as women, have our rights being threatened and I can only hope that people recognize the danger being spouted by these backward politicians and keep this country safe for WOMEN! Go Adam!

@Scared and @LL - thought I would only be fighting for the rights of gays but thanks to the Republican party we as women once more need to fight for our rights that I thought we had attained a long time ago. Agree with both of you and yes, I am very scared for women, gays and anyone who is not rich, white and male. ... Adamluv

I think Adam is not singing OOL with drudgery or trying so hard to send out a loud messsage or making a sacrifice! He is just being himself! Which he has reiterated. He's basically a very very happy person; the world is his stage! He can even choose to live anywhere he wishes. And with that once in a blue moon God-given voice, he has a lot wrapped around his little finger. No need to worry about Adam so much; it's those 'trapped' and cannot get out that yank at me with pain in my mind.

It's such a treat to hear Adam's beautiful voice. A gift from god, plain and simple. I love Adam and always will, he is pure, honest, and unique. He could sing "twinkle, twinkle little star" and I'd buy it, lol. BTW, well said "DRG".

I can't stop to cry every time when I listen this song.
@SCARED and @LL Sorry, ladies. But this is Adam Lambert 24/7 blog. I know we have to fight for women rights. But why we need to talk about this problem here?

Anonymous said...

Because there are women here who obviously have strong opinions and are obviously interested in fair treatment for all in this country.
What better place?

Still SCARED

[.......] Just place here your favorite insult, the one you use the most when you address the ..Berts you disagree with. Consider it from me to you... since I really don't have one of my own. (Actually, I could find some, but they take more than two words of few letters and I'm afraid I might 'lose' you in the process of ...reading me). Yeah, I ’smell’ the Love in (some of) you... The 'f-u-if-you-don't-like-what-I-like' kind of love. Toxic, invertebrate, aposematic love.

***
This song is so beautiful that needs no accompaniment. One could sing it to himself, in a ditch, in the middle of nowhere and still sound great. It's a song for oneself. Any additional 'ears' are just too lucky and should be grateful to be around at such a moment. I like this song as much as I like Adele's 'Someone like you', but songs like these two, so personal (watch her performance at the Brits!), should not (instantly) become 'hits' and should not to be sang for 'loving' (read: hysterical) crowds, at least not as long as they are still fresh, bloodstained, flaming or smouldering. It’s like public... deflowering. Or lapidation. The capitalist, therefore ‘civilized’, hollybollywoodian, therefore globalized... version of it. The ‘custom’ of the Top 40, therefore more than legal and very much praised. However, I agree, a performer can feed upon the energy of an audience... which in return can suck the life out of that performer (or that song for that matter!). The circle of the entertain..ment/..ing life! Parasitical? Symbiotical?

PSs:

No doubt, I love Monte’s guitar skills, but last year I think he played the song on electric guitar... Outside stage. Huge amplifiers. Large crowd. Totally different sound. Much bigger penetration power. And penetrate it did! :-)

@the SCARED one I marched and chanted with you... till that ‘burqa’ line. Although I understand your point, it just seems to hide a cultural stereotype, not too unlike the ones you fight against.
Quizzes: Is 'the bill to forbid concealing one's face in public' an evidence of (European) democracy? Is the obligation to cover oneself entirely an evidence of Muslim modesty and devotion? I think not. In both instances. Talking about "clear pictures"... let’s just beware of any kind of ‘derailments’.
"Obviously", I completely agree with your 10:07pm comment though.
Go the Scared Ones! :-))

@JAK I know what you mean. Blogspot didn’t work for me either last night.

@MGF Hi there! :-)

In a perfect world, in an alternate universe...Adam would simply be known as "Adam Lambert, awesome singer, great human being". Period. The end.

His sexual orientation would be a non-issue. Wouldn't come up in interviews, magazines, etc. His music would be loved and played on the radio without fear or discrimination. Being gay would never come up because it wouldn't matter. It would be all about the music! Too bad this "perfect world" doesn't exist. It hurts to see how hard he has to work to get the recognition he so deserves.

I just luv him, the man n his voice!

@ksgirl01 When my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter sang "twinkle, twinkle little star" on Thanksgiving, I was ready to get her on Star Search or some such program. I thought my heart would burst! I guess that's how I feel about Adam in an odd way.
