Hmm, am starting to change my mind about Vile Kyle Sandilands. He can be funny and always nice with Adam.
Adam looks relax as always. I just hope he will become more popular here in the land of downunder . His latest album is not thriving here. Go, Adam, do more promotions so people will know you.
Very lively conversation, not so austere like some others but needs a punch; something we've not gotten to know yet, that'll prick our ears up. Now that Adam has said he would go bonkers if he hadn't made it at the AI audition...yes, I noticed that he looked worried especially when Simon said he was "theatrical and therefore not current". He immediately asked if he could sing something else. But I wonder why he didn't feel more confident after having done big stage productions. It just goes to show he was likely side-stepped much and not given his due; he has gained much confidence since but still very humble. He made it and I guess in this way he owes much to AI and also wants to go back to help some of the worthy contestants to have an experience somewhat similar to his. Adam's voice is highly suited for the jazz/bluesy genre; he's vocally and spiritually embedded in the song as he sang...Is This Love. He becomes so much a part of it, could feel his groove and he seems so at home singing this jazzy/bluesy rendition. He should seriously delve into this genre. Like it a lot! Want to hear Adam sing more jazz/blues. :) Lam-my
@Lam-my - I remember Simon saying that his voice was "theatrical" but dont remember the "not current" part. Anyone know for sure? Then Kara said - theatrical yes, but does he have a good voice? (or something like that) . . . Adamluv
This was such a fun interview. Love how he interacts with others! @Adamluv Randy said he thought Adam was very current, so Simon said not current, as usual he takes the other side...
Magiclady There's a slight shade of difference in meanings when Randy says "currently" to mean at present time, whereas Simon says "not current" to mean theatrical as in out-moded or not so popular in the pop music scene. And he is quite far-sighted I'd say as seen in the lower/slower sales of the more theatrical approach of FYE and the more "current" #1 Trespassing album sales. So I don't think Simon was directly opposing Randy...a slight difference in their use of the words "current" and "currently" respectively. :) Lam-my
I was thinking of when he walked up to all the judges in those big red chairs and Simon said something like "funny things happen sometimes"and" it isn't good news" and Adam says "It isn't?" and Simon says" "Its great news." My heart sunk with Adam with the first comment then soared with the last.
That scene you were referring to was also such a terror moment to me as we can see how ADAM was momentarily down when Simon said those words "It's not good news." I jumped with joy when Simon finally said, "It's great news!" and we can see how relieved ADAM was then. He was absolutely so drop dead gorgeous in that episode especially in that suspenseful moment while he was looking at Simon. Gives me joy to my heart as I review any AI8 episode.
@lam-my I don't think Adam was worried about his voice at the auditions, more about himself/personality/looks etc. We all know that Idol does not always pick the best singers, they have a cast to fill for a tv show i.e. the R&B singer, the country person, the rock person, the big Diva voice , a black singer, a latino singer, etc....adam was way different to the normal 'cast' members that they choose.
HK fan Yea probably so at the beginning...I'd agree to that but after he got into Top 24, he still didn't feel the confidence, which I thought he should have a bit more of, being that outstanding. He was still in doubt whether he could reach say, Top 8. So it's not about the selection thing anymore. It could be due to him not being recognised by his stage-producers who he said refused to give him any lead roles for whatever reasons. He did say it perplexed him and thought he was not famous enough. His own estimation of his talent seemed not existent. The negativity he received could have shaken his confidence to some extent, not totally. So now, he's beginning to know and feel what he has really got. AI had a large part to do with that. Michael Orland called him a genius. Good for Adam! Knowing one's self-worth is probably the first steps to building one's confidence which I see in him now. Thanks HK. :) Lam-my
Adamluv Adam certainly causes conflicts in whatever he is involved...a sort of quarrel erupted from the get go, his audition, lol! Even the blinds on the windows behind, fell! lol! His voice not only splits pants; also causes blinds to fall! lol! By the way, did you feel anything about Adam being so special at this point? :) Lam-my
Magiclady If you are referring to the blinds falling...yes, after Adam's audition and he left the room, so he didn't see that. Definitely not caused by Adam's voice...lol! But such a coincidence and he did make AI drop if not the blinds, lol! :) Lam-my
I'm sure ADAM believes in himself and what he can do but what he knows is that he does not fit the mold of Idol why he didn't audition early on with his sexuality issue and his glam persona. He has mentioned this before.
As he was not getting any younger and with his experience in Burning Man and maybe somehow with US just elected the first black president (maybe ready for changes) he just has to do what he has to do to make that dream of being a Rock Star come true.
His disappointments in not being signed to a label and not landing the lead role, these he does not forget and why he feels indebted to Idol and makes him humble always.
So along his Idol journey, he has that fear of not fitting in, in what AI is looking for, not necessarily not being confident of his star quality.
Do not step on the toes of Lammy. With her linguistic ability she will tromple you and you will think she's complimented you. Gotta be careful, very careful. You know this when there are 12 posts and 7 of them belong to 1 person. Just saying...
FYE has taken over 3 years to gain the its current status. While Trespassing debuted at #1 on Billboard, it was there only for one week before plummeting. It's going to be a slow process for Trespassing unless the next single hits the top of the charts and stays there for quite some time.
Thanks for taking over to explain to us groundlings what two people meant by the words theatrical and current.
@4:43 Actually she was stepping on my toes. But I appreciate your advice and I get it and I did not think she was complimenting me. The opposite actually. Thanks
Whoa...for once I don't know who and what to respond to; okay maybe I'd just thank all who have responded so enthusiastically, namely: MagicLady, 3:45, 4:43, 5:26 and Curly Thumbellina...by the way, you started me on looking up on Adam's curving outward thumb, lol! And 4:43...your first rule of thumb is pretty astute, lol! Hmm, better watch my words, treading on high ground! lol! :) Lam-my
Oh include Adamluv and HKfan for their enthusiastic responses as well. :)
I seldom use sarcasm...what's the point when I can say something directly and honestly. With regard to stepping on someone's toes, definitely had no such intention and often, I do not address the issue directly to a person so I toyed a bit about doing it this time as to whether to put the name tag or not; because I don't know how it'll be received, and in this case I think it backfired. :) Lam-my
