This guy sure speaks Cantonese well; chok in its regular meaning simply means shake it, like if you chok / shake a bottle of champange, you know what happens or if you chok / shake a bottle of medicine to mix the contents etc. But 'chok yeong' is used metaphorically, well as interpreted...upbeat, sexy etc. I guess it's sort of if you 'shake' yourself up you'll be spewing like the bottle of champagne...lol! to denote someone being high-spirited / sexy. Chok yeong literally translates to...chok / shake and yeong / appearance. So shake up your appearance lol! or as interpreted by the guy...sexy, edgy. This is very HK Cantonese not so Sing Cantonese lol! HK Cantonese is more stylish! Adam, lei ho chok! lol! Lam-my
In the video, the guy seems to demonstrate a choke; so they could simply be removing the letter, e from the word choke and says it as chok...lol! to mean edgy. In a previous instance, a certain shortened word became something quite weird. :) Lam-my
Hong Kong seems to be agreeing with Adam. He looks terrific, very sexy and seems to be upbeat, happy. He just exudes a certain aura that makes me smile when I see any pictures or videos of him and so glad to be an Adam Lambert fan since day one of his appearance on Idol.
@8.49 yes one word and you can tell he speaks it well. I cannot speak any Cantonese, but after having lived in HK for over 15 years I am used to hearing Cantonese spoken and you can 'hear' that this guys accent is really good.... as opposed to mine which is crap!
Lammy - There you go again. Didn't you realize that 99% of us were going to watch the video and hear the explanation and see a demonstration of chok. You needn't treat us as if we were all a bunch of 3 year old idiots.
OMG speechless..Adam so adorable...where is all this going..he is raising the bar on handsome..looking gorgeous..loving this look..the melvin is great..my o my
5:25 Thank you for being appreciative and kind. I only watched the Cantonese video of the guy explaining it in Cantonese; did not watch the English version. When I hear it in my own mother-tongue, the meaning, nuance is a lot clearer; so when I studied Mandarin (school curriculum), my brain translates it to Cantonese...the written form for both is the same, the spoken form absolutely different; not sure about present status quo about the written form. Thanks! Positive thinking is more energising. Lam-my
After first seeing the gorgeous GIF of Adam early this morning and then coming back late tonight after a very busy day, and watching it again...I really think my FAVORITE thing to come out of Hong Kong (so far..) is this GIF of Adam "CHOK"ing ....Adam is just so good looking and has such a great personality...I could just spend hours watching...Its amazing that Adam requires no sound at all to be totally mesmerizing....
Sue Hey hope you are feeling good...always your positive self and brave! Thanks! Frankly, Sue, I wasn't even trying to explain; was just enjoying the play on words used in the video. :) Lam-my
