The entire album (Magic Hour) by Scissor Sisters was completely underrated. At least Adam's charted at the top.

This is OTT but worths watching. Seacrest at the end of the video talked about how Idol changed his life and so many others that have been on the show. For sure he ended up as the only mega successful individual discovered by Idol and he can't even sing and the show is about singing competition.

@3:44 When you put it like that you make it sound like a matter of sexuality (not to say that's what you meant) and I think that's clearly not the case. I can't tell you why Trespassing wasn't acknowledged (maybe it wasn't on the right people's radar) but I can speak to why Frank was. In simplest terms, Frank had A LOT of buzz this year. Youtube seemingly exploded early this year with many people covering his songs(at least from what I could observe). His album had both solid commercial success and tremendous critical success and that's usually a great way to get noticed. He's topping a lot of year-end best album lists from large publication. Not to mention a lot of people are familiar with his songwriting for bigger artist so he gets a lot of exposure that way just from being associated with them. The BUZZ was in Ocean's favor this year.

Well, we can't say that Adam doesn't have a lot of page space on Ryan's website. He does! Frank Ocean is also a puzzlement to me. I guess the gay thing isn't a factor with him. I guess it is with Adam, though. Frank's songs may be good, but so are Adam's. I never heard of Frank until he "exploded" on the scene this year. And I did not know that he had been a writer, etc. before this. I don't think many other average people did, either. He was a new name to me. He just jumped out of nowhere as far as I was concerned, but others seemed to know who he was. Well, Adam has album #3 to work on next year. That's where I putting my attention and my efforts!
The NYE TV celebrations are once again the same olds.

Ocean has been active and working with current big name artists since 2007. Two years ahead of Adam. Let's hope Adam collaborate with great artists and producers on his third album and make a hugh dent on charts.

Ocean is not new to the scene and did not chose to come out at the beginning of his career like most gay celebrities. Let's not forget Adam had a Grammy nod with WWFM.

I'd never heard of Frank Ocean until recently so I checked out his music and videos and some live performances. I don't care for his voice or music at all, but maybe he's accepted because he does not accent being gay. Adam does at times and it pisses off people. People don't care o\if Adam is gay, they just don't want to see him accent gay. He's done it from his first work after Idol and GNT it will continue to hold him back. Fair or not. He's choosing this road. A rocky one.
If he won't conform he won't be accepted ever by a wide audience. Everyone knew Johnny Mathia was gay but he never spoke of it nor exhibited it and people ignored it. You can't ignore Adam's gayness. His choice. His consequences. It's not a fair world. But a fact is a fact.

Very clearly put and I absolutely agree.
If this Trespassing era with his looks on Jay Leno (no make-up & so gorgeous) when he sang BTIKM was his Chapter 1 instead of all the glitter, costumes and make-up of GNT (and after the AMA fiasco), and not Chapter 2, it would have been more acceptable to a wider audience and gain more fans right after Idol.
But we know, things happen for reasons we don't know yet.

Adam chooses not to fake his real life for greater success. He knows the price he is paying for being openly honest. He is not a gay man who is only "gay behind the scenes." That's true of some gay people, but not Adam. I don't think he is going to all of a sudden turn into a NPH type. Adam can only be Adam. He has said himself that it's too difficult and complicated to lie. I love the Adam we have.

The question was why is Frank Ocean not being branded gay and his declaration has not caused ripples in his career. @ 8:35 answered that. Adam creates his own ripples. I agree with that, he does. It is of course his choice to live his private and professional life anyway he chooses, but his choice will dictate his success. Perhaps enough enlightened people will always be his fans, he certainly deserves it, but if you look for a reason why his acceptance may falter it's in plain sight.
@ 9:43 P.M. Yes it was common knowledge that Johnny Mathis was homosexual as well as many stars of film and music, the press was not as great white shark like as it is today. It helped that recording companies and movie studios were all powerful and could get newspapers to squelch stories of bi and homosexual stars. Even so, some stars were forced into marriages to hush rumours, for instance Rock Hudson. It was a sham and everyone knew it but pretended they didn't and he went on for years playing romantic leads. These are different times, that's both good and bad. Less hypocrits but more self righteous idiots.

The worst hypocrite of all is Elton John for outing himself first as bi then marrying a woman named Renata all before he had the courage to be who he really is - gay.
