Why do Americans call men "pretty"? Pretty is a term used to describe pretty women, handsome is a term describe men who are handsome.

To qualify "as young men" to Johnny Depp and Andrew McCarhy is just about right. I don't find them good looking at all after their youth has gone.
But Rob Lowe was damn pretty in the 80's but much handsomer now with those square jaws, strong chin and ever tantalizing eyes.
