Ha! When he was asked if he'd like to be a judge, for a split second it looked like he was going to say that would be "effing awesome!" but he corrected and said "great!"
Love him.

Anonymous said...

He would be the best, most interesting judge and he would really help people and would push them to blossom.
If only Hollyweird would give him a chance.

This interview makes me want to give him a big hug and tell him I love him.

Since Adam has expressed an interest in becoming a judge for Idol, I would hope that the "suits" seriously consider him. He has the experience of being a contestant and going through the process. His comments would be sincere, honest, and critical when needed. And they would not have to pay him the big bucks as they did this past season(although he would deserve a nice salary for the season). Then he could also introduce his new album and first single on the show. I would like to see Keith back on the panel. He did a good job considering all the "drama" with Nicki and Mariah. So now we just have to wait and see what happens.

Anonymous said...

No to Keith, he didn't even sit on the judges panel when Adam and Angie sang.

Anonymous said...

I love to listen to Adam during the interviews that he does. He is so articulate, intelligent, charming and honest. Most of the performers we have seen interviewed can't put two sentences together in a coherent manner. He would be an asset as a judge on the Idol panel and not an embarrassment as we saw this past season.

Anonymous said...

I think that guy in the background with headphones on must be watching over Adam. He was directly behind him during his pre show interview. Glad to see that.

Anonymous said...

If Keith wasn't there (I didn't notice) it was probably because he was backstage since he also performed on the show with Kree

Anonymous said...

IMO if Idol was going to have Adam as a judge, it would have happened this last season. I don't expect them to ask him and I think Adam doesn't expect to be asked. This frees him up to say Yes, he'd do it if they ask. He has nothing to lose by giving that answer.

Anonymous said...

LOL at people not wanting Keith because he was backstage for his own performance as was Randy. Small minded people.

Anonymous said...

I don't think the fact that Adam wasn't picked for this past season precludes him from being asked for next season. I think Nigel in all of his arrogance went for the big names and controversy. He now must realize how much he blew it. And Simon isn't doing much better. His idea of 3 women to sit on the panel (one being an unknown in our country) will not entice women to watch-they want at least one cute guy to see each week (sorry Simon). So I believe Adam has another chance this go around but if they don't pick him this time-he should just write them off.

Anonymous said...

I already predict this before- american idol goes down the tube no adam -lower rating. never learn for the third time?bye AI-better pick adam lambert now otherwise tird time way way lower rating.all ic an say i told you AI producer.

wasn't KU first performance pre-taped?

I would love to see Adam as a judge and he wants to do it! OT: Adam and Angie sang so great together! I wish Mariah and Nicki gave them a standing o - everyone else got one! I believe Keith and Randy would have. I'm sorry I don't think I'm being petty. I think it was very disrespectful towards Adam. Come on Mariah and Nicki - are you that jealous! Mariah got much praise for her songs she didn't even sing! Actually, JLo and Sy were not even necessary. They took all the attention from Candace and Kree!
What was that about and who wanted to watch no talent. I feel much better now getting that off my chest and my son who was watching it with me agreed!....nancdruuu2

Has the X-Factor ever really been credible here in the USA?

Anonymous said...

I got a chuckle over Kid Rocks comment at the Billboard Award show after presenting an award. " Let's give it up for people lip-syncing under pre-recorded music". I just saw who they picked for the XFactor jugdes. That is one program I could just never get into. Glad to see Kelly Rowland tho.

Anonymous said...

Yes, the X Factor is as credible as The Voice and American Idol.

Anonymous said...

I'm not going to bother going back to rewatch Idol to see who stood up when or to assume a judge wasn't at the table because he didn't have something else to do on the show. Anybody who thinks any of that was on purpose or that Adam was snubbed is petty, small minded and unrealistic. Anybody who thinks they shouldn't have bothered having big stars like JLo, Psy or Mariah on the show is ignoring the past 12 seasons of show finales. Grow up people. The world does not revolve around Adam. If somebody was demanding this treatment for Nicki Minaj or Phil Phillips or fill in the blank you would be throwing fits.

Nice save on the swear word, Adam. LOL. Nice interview. I think Adam would like to be a judge for the chance to help other people. He really seemed to enjoy the little bit he did on China Idol.

@7.42pm
Keith was the best judge this season, he deserves another chance without the Nicki, Mariah drama. And the reason he wasn't at the judges table is because both him and Randy were backstage getting ready for their performance with Kree that was coming up. Nothing to do with slighting Adam.

@8.53pm, Keiths first performance was pretaped but the one with Kree wasn't.

daydreamin said...

When Mariah's and Keith and Randy's pretaped and live performances were coming up, they were backstage for a few songs. We in the audience were told to act as if the performance was really live, thus the reason for those performers missing from their seats. They wanted it to look like they were performing live LOL. They told us to try to match what the pretaped audience was doing ie, waving our hands, jumping etc.

Anonymous said...

daydreamin how did you ever find that catalog with Adam's jacket that he wore to the Idol show? That was pretty cool.

Anonymous said...

Keep giving Adam's Idol duet some views. Also vote on the O Awards which is my least favorite poll ever, I hope I last.

Adam was invited to speak to the Chinese Idol contestants and sit in as a guest in the auditions. One of the reasons is the Chinese believe in the concept of apprenticeship; that is, learning from the sifu/master in any field of expertise. And so they see Adam as the best person to inspire/guide the Chinese Idol contestants because Adam, not only went through the whole process of Idol but emerged the victor, overcoming all the odds stacked against him. To the Chinese that is the best person to learn the trade from so to speak. Like you see in all these kungfu films where the student must obey and carry out all the orders and training of the sifu. It's a sacred, age-old, master to student imparting/learning, process/tradition. But this practice is not so pertinent in western culture and that probably, is why Adam is still not hired as an AI judge. They'd rather pay hefty wages to big stars who may be huge in terms of their own success and sales but lack this sifu/toh-dhie (master/student) touch and expertise. In short, the judges/mentors have not actually gone through the AI process themselves; so how are they going to inculcate and nurture the contestants to their fullest potential. A case in contention is how Adam brought out Angie's talent as a singer; she never fully realised her potential. The AI judges/mentors had always insisted it was best she stayed at the piano. I actually thought that stifling and Angie herself didn't totally buy it; but the minute she came out swinging, they'd say she should sing at the piano. Eventually, it was Adam who 'took her by the hand' and led her to duet with him to face 7000 people, centre stage and her vocals soared with so much power, emotion, confidence. That to me is the sifu in Adam...like he said he wants to help the up and coming contestants realise their direction, vision.

Lam-my ,
you're culpable of a double crime LOL , you've made me post on Adam 24/7 thrice in such a short time, and you've just made me break my rock-like decision to not comment, yet, on how good Adam would be as a judge/mentor! I've just read your very interesting post on sifu, the master, the teacher who helps a young apprentice to reach mastership.
Extremely interesting and so true when it comes to how pertinent or not this Oriental practice is in western cultures . To a certain extent it can be,the daughter of a good friend of mine, extremely beautiful but extremely shallow, too, after years of exhausting spiritual and physical training has become sensei. Is a sensei a master only in kung fu or is it something similar to sifu? I don't know if I'm right or not , Michael Orland seems to have been Adam's sifu during his Idol days, Adam never ceases to publicly thank him, and now Adam himself is a sifu.Is Idol interested in asking young masters to share their experience, wisdom with young aspirants to glory? Hmm, we'll see.

If American Idol doesn't want Adam to be a judge, perhaps The X Factor will give him the opportunity.

Adam & Keith for AI judges next year.

Anonymous said...

Reasons Adam should be an Idol judge............he speaks so well, he is great to look at, think of the fashion he would bring to the show and he know music and the Idol experience. The Idol bosses would be stupid to not hire him.

Judging from the fashion worn by Chinese artist and also the MC's of the popshows, I have a feeling that besides Adam's vocal skills and his bright smile, his fashion sense has been much appreciated.

Hi Pan!
Always enjoy talking to you; you always startle me at the beginning and then it becomes cordial. But it's okay, I like to be startled at times. lol! Sensei or sinseh is a Chinese physician who dispenses herbal cures after they take the patient's pulse; they are not as expert as the real Chinese physician/doctor who studies in great depth, the human anatomy, diseases, medicines, acupuncture etc. On the other hand, sensei practise based on their experience in dispensing medical herbs. The origin of sifu is from martial arts / kungfu not so much pertaining to the medical field. An outstanding martial arts sifu is Bruce Lee who created his own cutting-edge moves and skills not following the common written/practised rules...that basically is an authentic sifu. And that's why I used the sifu term informally on Adam, he doesn't follow strictly to rules; he does it his own way. Sifu are always original and authentic. So the sifu terminology originated from martial arts/kungfu. Now it's used more informally like sifu chef or even mahjong sifu, lol! Michael Orland is a music director sifu and said: "Adam came as a genius and left as a genius." So Adam was already that good according to Michael Orland who has worked very closely with Adam. So, just my opinion, Michael Orland is not Adam's sifu; they're both sifu in their own field of music. Chinese Idol values Adam's capabilities a lot more than AI.

Sensei...can literally mean teacher but definitely not sifu. Sensei is Hokkien dialect. Sifu is Cantonese, my dialect and a formal language in Hong Kong and to some extent Macau.

3:56 Xfactor just named their judges for this year,

Anonymous said...

Maybe the viewing audiences have just had too many of these singing/talent/reality shows. Idol seems to be the only one that has produced any successful recording artists, but remember it has been on the air the longest. The winners of The Voice, XFactor don't seem to get the same support that Idol contestants do. I think several of the coaches on The Voice take one or two of their team on tour or even record with them(CeeLo and Vicki Martinez). Simon's new judges probably won't help his show that much. I know I won't be watching it. I do enjoy The Voice because the contestants really are very good...no nonsense with all the auditions there. I would love to see Adam as a judge on Idol, but who knows if the producers would consider him. They don't seem to make sensible decisions as seen with the selection of Nicki and Mariah this past season. It would be smart to select someone like Adam who has gone through the process and would actually care about the contestants. Time will tell what decisions will be made.

**I posted this article on the next thread (Adam's Happy Birthday Tweets..) but seemed appropriate to post here too, since it's Idol judge related:

VERY interesting article: Mentions Adam Lambert for Idol judge position: This is an in-depth article but here are a couple of paragraphs. Read the whole article. It sounds like they are definitely planning to re-vamp it......which they must in order to stay relevant to today's TV viewing audience.

"‘American Idol’ at a crossroads: Next season to bring fresh judges, many changes" via Fox News

Excerpts from the article:

"The 12th season of FOX’s famed “American Idol” wrapped on Thursday night, and although the most recent “Idol” installment brought new judges, talented contestants and some twists, the next season of the show may see even more changes.
The reality singing competition has endured a perpetual ratings decline in recent years, hitting an all time low this season. So what’s next for the once biggest show on television?"

The Idol Dream Team:
"So who could and should make up the “American Idol” dream team judging panel for season 13?
“Ben Folds (poach him from ‘The Sing Off,’ he is amazing and deserves to be on a bigger show), and Adam Lambert,” Parker suggested. “And get an industry person – whether it is a journalist, A&R person, producer, manager etc. Someone who knows what they are talking about and isn’t a celebrity just using the show to promote their other projects.”"

MUCH more is said,..but loving that Adam was mentioned..........

tea said...

I don't know who Ben Folds is but I'll go with these 3 for judges, Adam Lambert, Ben Folds and Lyndsey Parker.

glitzylady said...

Ben Folds is an American singer/songwriter record producer, musician, etc..

glitzylady said...

By the way, more names and concepts for potential judges, etc. are mentioned in the article...They say that the only Idol position that seems secure at this point is Ryan Seacrest's as host. But everyone else, including producer Nygel Lythgowe, may be out.

Two more quotes from the article:

"This could also suggest that next season’s team of judges is less A-list, more industry."

"Another entertainment industry insider noted that it would be “genius” to bring back past winners or successful finalists to the judging fold – Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, and Jennifer Hudson."

So we'll see....could be interesting!

Anonymous said...

I like the idea of bringing back past winners or finalists to comprise a new Idol panel. Of course, Adam has to be one of them. Look at judges in different genres also. I wouldn't mind seeing Keith come back; he did a good job overall. I am sure everyone has an opinion about who should be on the new panel of judges. Whatever the producers decide to do to change the format, it has to be better than what they had this last season.

Anonymous said...

Idol new judges should be Adam, Katy Perry, Keith. Concentrate about the contestants. Have surprise mentors. Get rid of Iovine critiques and shorten Ryan's remarks before giving phone nos. make the program one hour instead of two hours. Result show half an hour. This way your viewer ratings go up. Two hours every week is just too much.

Anonymous said...

@Anon10:34AM - I love your choices for the judges: Adam, Katy Perry and Keith! This is a team that would really get along and offer a lot of expertise. My only concern is that Katy is in such high demand, I doubt she would do it, but it would be great! I also think Idol could easily get rid of the hometown visits which I feel can be very awkward for the contestants and totally unnecessary. I mean, come on, a parade - what are they six years old? Just my POV.>>>>>nancdruuu2

Anonymous said...

Keith is cute, but he's too identifiable with season 12 horrible judges. I say start the next season with a clean slate by hiring Adam and two more new fresh faces.

Anonymous said...

Do like the format on The Voice
Straight to the point! All about contestants:)
Host is precise & to the point, No snike remarks to insult the viewers's intelligient!
that's why I prefer watching The Voice after Season 8 Super star Adam.
So obvious AI is rigged! sorry, just saying......

Anonymous said...

AI is coming like KINDERGARDEN !!! a child's show!
Judges are So Full of themselves. I feel sorry for the contestants looking lost & face expression " WTF"

So AI better come up with a NEW FORMAT/STRATEGY as our darling Adam says many times regarding his competition on season 8!

Adam's on to doing greater things if not selected to be an AI judge!

Anonymous said...

Well of course Adam was suggested, they asked Lyndsey Parker. That's like asking one of us.

tea said...

I'm in favor of letting Lyndsey Parker decide the new judges. ;)

tess4ADAM said...

I think there should be a panel of three judges plus a different 'guest' judge each week ... someone who is more interested in the contestants' raw talent rather than the judge's own agenda for being on the panel. That way the 'guest' judge would provide a new concept for the contestants benefit not their own. As ADAM has said ... the show should be about these kids who are looking for a platform to help them get into the music industry ... not about the judges' personal dramas! (e.g. Nikki M. & Mariah C.) ... JMO

I like him but if Harry Connick, Jr. is asked to judge, I will NOT watch. He so dissed Amber for not knowing what the lyrics meant for My Funny Valentine. Instead of helping her to understand, he went on about how Irving Berlin was depressed and not confident about himself. Her rendition of Valentine gave me chills. It was beautiful, but he had to come on camera and dis her again because she sang some runs. He wants all the classics to be done the way they were in the 40's and 50's. His career was built on the old style Sinatra, Martin and Como. Just like Buble. How does a contestant (other than AML) change things up when they are given a list of songs they never heard because the songs are 30-40 years old?

Many changes need to be made on Idol, not just the judges. How about 10 votes per phone, tweet, facebook or Idol.com? That would show the true votes and be fairer to the contestants. No other show with fan voting but Idol tells the number of votes cast. #Self aggrandizing.

Over my rant.

tea -

I went to the site you posted and read the story. Very nice. I tried to comment that "Adam is holding his Godson Riff, the son of Lee and Scarlet Cherry. Adam and Riff share the same birthday." I tried to jump through the hoops required to comment, but to no avail. Somebody? Anybody? Help?

Anonymous said...

There's something that I never see mentioned about American Idol. It's the 'shooting angles'. Every time I watch the voice or any other similar show, the camera angles and the lighting are better than AI. They seem to be filming it from a bad angle, maybe too low?? It gives it an amateurish look rather than a Professional TV show look.

tea said...

@ 4:05 PM
Someone has already posted about Riff. I had posted the link on another website and put in Riff's name, then went back and took out the name. If Adam didn't name him, I wasn't comfortable doing it either. Riff Cherry is out there now, bound to happen. Don't you love the article?, Byron Flitsch is always so generous with Adam compliments.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Idol spent a little too much time on Amber didn't understand what the song was about but that can happen with a song that is one year old and she needed to understand what it was about to be able to sing it at her best. I think Harry is very well intentioned.

Anonymous said...

3:49, Idol hasn't always told the number of votes and The Voice is using the number of iTunes sold in it's voting so that number is known. It's not self-aggrandizement.

Anonymous said...

@3:09 PM
My point:
The same happened last year, every thread was filled with AI judge speculations. Fans got so invested in trying to get Adam to be one of the judges. And were disappointed. I just find this speculation useless and boring (not trying to be snarky or obnoxious or anything, jmo). Please read also Anon 2:29 in the thread BEFORE this one (it's not me, but a good post of this subject).
Maybe all these speculations and hopes getting Adam to be a judge should be taken to AmIdol (fan)site?! To get the message to the right people. Doubt that AI producers and deciding peeps visit this site...

4:42 sorry you are going to have to endure the Idol talk and I'll be one of them. It's just mostly chit-chat. I certainly didn't fall apart when Adam wasn't named judge last year and no one I knew did either. It's harmless banter and beats the troll manure anyday. I am not trying to relay a message to Idol either I have snail mail, email, twitter for that.

glitzylady said...

@Anon 4:42
Yep, as long as the media speculates, we'll be chatting about Adam and Idol. Although I suspect not every thread was (last year) or will be (this year) taken up with the subject. Just a slow "Adam day" so some discussion about it. Right now, the Idol "re-vamp" is something that not just us fans of Adam Lambert are talking about. As a long time Idol watcher, I don't just talk about Idol in relation to Adam. My husband and I have watched it since the season before Adam was on. And bits and pieces of seasons before that. And this year the judges as a group were not great. Sadly. If they don't make some positive changes in the next year, Idol will be gone. No doubt about it. I prefer The Voice over Idol at the moment. But I also watched Idol to the end of this season, because I (and my hubby) enjoy seeing the new talent on the show. And I certainly enjoyed the talented guy who duetted with Angie on the Finale ;)) So the thing is, if you prefer not to read about Idol..and the discussion about Adam and Idol..well, the best thing to do is pass on by. And if by some chance Adam happens to be a judge next year..well, 2 or 3 hours of Adam on TV, every week, for 5 months, is fine with me. If it doesn't happen..not gonna worry about it. Certainly not invested in that happening, at least not .... yet :)))

I enjoyed your post, thanks. I have been posting for two years about how I wish AI would adopt a different voting system, something more like DWTS, that would provide just a little tiny bit of limitations. I truly believe that AI has not ever considered this because they want to Ryan to come on screen and say "...50 million votes this week blah blah blah..." Well, I barely watched until the end this season, but I don't remember Ryan quoting voting #'s too darn much those last episodes!!
