I am proud of myself I signed the petition. Good luck to everyone.

Anonymous said...

Nice to see that signing the petition made a difference.

Anonymous said...

Sadly, not so long ago, Mr Putin warned Western countries not to interfere on Russia's plan to ban gay propaganda.

He said he does not instruct other countries on their position on homosexuality, therefore they should not interfere in Russia.

In plain English: these petitions are completely useless against Russian legislation.

How did Adam get to perform in Russia this winter, an openly gay entertainer? I just now thought of that.

Anonymous said...

@ All Out Tweets seemed happy with the petition, I am sure they know what they are up against.

Anonymous said...

11:10am, If I remember correctly, there were threats made when Adam was set to perform there and security was alarmed. Adam handled it calmly.

With the next Olympics scheduled to be in Russia, it would seem that world governments would have some leverage in this matter. I don't know how much they want to stir things up. But, what is the Russian government going to do? Arrest all gay athletes? Not allow them to compete? Disinvite them? So strange. And troubling.

New restrictive laws were enacted in June. He wouldn't be allowed to go there now.

No, they have no idea.

Their petitions will not make any difference in Russia. End of.

Anonymous said...

The petition may not have any impact in and of itself, but it does make a statement. It shows that the world is indeed paying attention to Russia's policies and are expressing their disapproval. Other world leaders, unfortunately, feel the same as Putin does. The important thing is to never let these types of leaders think they aren't being watched. It may take many years to change hearts and minds and espectially policies, but petitions and peaceful protests and lobbying for change are all part of the process. I say keep up the pressure and someday there WILL be a change in favor of equality.

It is unlikely high profile athletes would be arrested or anything, it is the everyday citizens that will feel the results of the new laws.

Adamluv said...

@DRG- agree with what you wrote. On another positive note, Uruguay just became the 2nd So. American country (after Argentina) to now have marriage equality. Gracias y felicidades!!!!!!! . . . Adamluv

@ 11:51 So sad that Adam can't go to Russia unless things eventually change. He seems t have a lot of fans there. OT Avicii is flying in from Spain for the Nile Rogers concert. Avicci has a concert in Spain the night before. Afraid to get my hopes up to high, but it seems like a good bet Lay Me Down might be the next single IMO,but who knows. I think the big reveal is Tuesday morning!

Anonymous said...

I think if They are all three at the concert there is a good chance they will perform lay me down, which would be really exciting. I don't see how that means it is the single.

Tho' I am not a fan of everything President Obama says, in today's press conference he stated that he STRONGLY disagrees with Putin's new, awful and backwards gay laws that, in essence, make being gay criminal. He said we should not boycott the Olympics because the athletes have worked so hard and should be allowed to compete, and goes on to say he's hoping that our United States gay and lesbian athletics will bring home some gold, silver and bronze medals! What a Great statement. He followed with the opinion that if Russia has no gay and lesbian athletes on their teams they will be weaker for it. Love it!

So, 1:27pm, it looks like you are correct about gay athletes not being harrassed, barred or arrested, thank God. And, DRG, I agree for the most part, that peaceful protests are the most productive.

A perfect example . . .

Adam is one of the BEST representivites/spokesman for the LBGT acceptance movement. He is so well spoken, kind, thoughtful and funny all wrapped in a beautiful package.

He wins over soooo many that would otherwise not agree or give a hoot about the matter.

Interesting times on the planet! As the forces of Light increase, so will the forces of Darkness. Let's follow Adam's example.

Ummm . . . I should correct myself. It's LGBT, and sometimes Q and T. :)

Russia has said that they will arrest tourists if they so much as wear a rainbow tee shirt. What kind of peaceful protests are you imagining?

Anonymous said...

3:47pm ... I hadn't heard that.

TOURIST?, like those there for the Olypics, wearing a rainbow tee, would be arrested? The backlash from the world community would be very vocal and something I don't think Russia would want. (I know, I know, there are some countries in Africa and elsewhere that wouldn't mind, I'm sure.)

xo laura

Anonymous said...

Yes. They have said foreign tourists doing anything gay ie holding hands or kissing, or pro gay like wearing a pro gay tee would be held in jail for two weeks and then deported and they have also specifically said rules would not be changed during the Olympics.

Anonymous said...

Woa, I guess we'll see what happens and how governments respond. Thank God for countries like the U.S. trying to ake progress and advance gay rights. Makes me feel lucky to live here.

And sorry for those living in Russia.

Russia is really going backwards eh!:(

It's really sad but what can we do that's their new law and we just hope that they will not go door to door to snatch all gay people and harm them....

I wish all the best for Adam's fans in Russia. Be safe pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

This is Winter Olimpic Games. Who will wear rainbow t-shirts when it's -12 degree outside?

Anonymous said...

We got a lot to do to clean off our own doorstep. We ahve no right to criticize Russian policy until we get it right here at home.

Anonymous said...

@ 6:40 PM,

Are you hearing yourself???? Or there is something wrong with your brain!!!!

Obviously that the Russian Government is loud and clear about anti-gay ok??? It is easy for you to say not to criticize. If you have a gay bro or a sister that is gay, you will not think twice for sure!!!

People here are concern and they allowed to voice out their frustrations!!! Before you type your comment here again, make sure you have good reason at all!!!

Wow, I don't think you understand what the policy in Russia is for you to say something like that.

Anonymous said...

I'd be willing to wear a rainbow shirt or scarf and make international news and go to jail for two weeks.

Anonymous said...

6:47, that is an old pic of Adam.

I haven't noticed on any of Adams tweets if he sent a get well to Brian in London, he was in hospital, having knee surgery. Maybe he called him on the phone or texted him. hope he did not over look it. He is usually super good about these things.

I am sure there are many, many people who will be willing to do that, especially during the Olympics when the place is crawling with cameras and media people from around the world. It's going to he a big story

Anonymous said...

@7:15 You mean Brian of Queen?

Anonymous said...

@ 6:58 PM,

Either are you for sure bec. you are not from there and you don't know anything about what you are talking about!!. How would you feel if you have one gay in your family and she/he is an athlete going there????

Look in the mirror and tell me what see????

Yes, hope it won't interfere with the Las Vegas gig.

I'm sorry @ 6:58 PM,

My message wasn't for you:( I just got overwhelmed and I thought you were @ 6:40.

Accept my deeply apology...

It's not easy when you hear these type of comments about gays!!!:( Really sad...

Please accept my apology.

Thanks,

This whole situation in Russia is very disturbing......this is all about " Human Rights" and if the world powers don't at least voice their disapproval then what will Russia do next. To me this is history replaying itself. My parents and I immigrated from Hungary and I am old enough to remember the fear we lived under when Hungary was under Russian rule. I don't agree with Obama, I think this is a serious issue and it would be better to boycot the Olympics or if Olympics committe had any backbone they would relocate the Olympics. I'm sure there are enough countries with the necessary facilities to do this or bring it back to Vancouver, Canada.

Would you tweet a friend or call a friend going in for surgery? Twitter isn't everything.

Anonymous said...

There isn't time to move the Olympics to another country. Boycotting the Olympics in 1980 did no good and deprived some athletes a chance to compete after a lifetime of work. Jesse Owens made more of a difference participating in the Olympics in 1936 Germany. Athletes from around the world can use this as a platform to make a statement of support for LGBT rights. I'm hoping to see something from the winners as they cross a finish line or accept their medals.

Anonymous said...

Wouldn't that be something if EVERY athlete showed their support for their fellow gay athletes at the Olympics by wearing a rainbow scarf or something?

Many good posts here. Interesting and thought provoking on this important issue. And welcome XoXo ... we can see your heart.

I doubt that the gays participating in the Olympics would want to see them boycotted. Politics is not supposed to be part of Olympic Games .

Anonymous said...

Just wondering . . .
The liberals in US are the ones promoting LGBT agenda while they say those who are against it are homophobes mostly because of their religious conviction.
Russia which is the land of atheists and therefore with no religious convictions are just simply absolutely homophobes for opposing any LGBT agenda.
Or they are like the Nazis, must be pure, straight and not contaminated race?.

funbunn40 said...

I was happy to sign, but Putin is a dictator and unless a majority of Russian people all band together I'm afraid for the LBGT people in Russia. Hopefully the Olympics will not be held there and other countries will step up and show their support. We can sign petitions, voicing our disent, but each country will govern as they see fit and which is their right, even when it's morally wrong and oppressive. I hope Putin will not have a long reign, but he fixed the elections too, from what I've read.

Anonymous said...

@6:40
I agree with your first sentence whole heartedly!
But that's not to say that we should be quiet when things get worse somewhere else... the whole world should react when something like this, totally incomprehensible, sad and 'out-of-touch-with-reality' happens!

Anonymous said...

11:59 PM, you are behind the times. While the Soviet Union may have banned religion, today's Russia allows religious freedom on paper but the government has embraced the Russian Orthodox church and the majority of the population claims to be Orthodox. The Russian Orthodox church is against LGBT rights. Putin and the church are supporting each other in these bans.

Anonymous said...

A couple of gay athletes have already spoken out to say they want to participate in the Olympics in Russia and may speak out while they are there. The IOC is asking the Russian govt to clarify how the "no propaganda" law would be applied to the athletes.

Anonymous said...

That's what I am hoping Laura/9:51In Denmark, when the Nazis ordered all Jews to wear a yellow star, the King appeared wearing a yellow star and a lot of Danes followed his lead. Reports vary on what percentage of the population actually did this but a majority of Denmark's Jews survived the Holocaust.

If everyone wears a bit of the rainbow, it will be hard for the Russians to do anything about it.

The World Championships in Athletics started TODAY in Moscow (track & field)... the games will be on Aug 10-18, 2013.

Anonymous said...

Olympics are 2014 - a year to fix this problem or relocate to somewhere like Vancouver, which ran the 2010 games and has all the infra-structure.

Anonymous said...

5:30
Not gonna happen. The relocation I mean. Be real.

Anonymous said...

I know the relocation for the Olympics won't happen but if it did it would certainly let the Putin and his comrades know that the world is is against their policy of discrimination. Also, it would hurt them greatly in the pocket books.

GMT

Anonymous said...

I think it's too late to relocate the games, but I agree with some of the earlier comments, it would be so great if the athletes taking part could wear a rainbow scarf or something similar to show their support for the LGBT community in Russia, this would certainly be a great way to get their message across.

Anonymous said...

I was very proud to sign the petition. It's when good people do nothing, that real danger lurks. It's hard to understand that the whole world doesn't realize Putin is nuts. I feel sorry for all of the Adam fans in Russia. I'm thankful that President Obama has shown his disapproval and maybe more can be done. Hopefully things will improve there. I pray it does soon so all people can be free to live their lives without needless
fears...nancdruuu2

I feel sorry for Adam's fans in Russia too. I remember Adam performing at the Maxidrome in Russia, his performance was brilliant possible one of the best I've seen, the way he sang Whole Lotta Love and SleepWalker, my god that man can sing, it was amazing. The more recent concerts held at St Petes and Moscow, the long lines of fans waiting so patiently in all that snow to see Adam. Shame on this government for hurting so many.

Adamluv said...

IMO there should be no boycott since it only hurts the athletes that have spent years preparing for this competition, and it is way too late to switch venues. I just hope that the athletes of the world will wear something/do something to show their support of the LGBT community in Russia. I like the story of the King of Denmark wearing a yellow star during WW2. . . . Adamluv

Sadly, Russia is not the only country in the world with the same agenda. Look to the Middle East and Africa.

"today's Russia allows religious freedom on paper but the government has embraced the Russian Orthodox church and the majority of the population claims to be Orthodox. The Russian Orthodox church is against LGBT rights. Putin and the church are supporting each other in these bans."

Do you seriously believe "the Russian government has embraced the Russian Orthodox Church and Putin who was ex-chief of KGB supports their religious convictions why this ban on LGBT???
Sorry, I am not naive to believe this.
