VIA DerekMcG:
I haven't had much time to post lately, but I just wanted to give an update on If I Had You and its amazing popularity in South Korea---more than three years after it was released as a single
In today's Gaon chart, the Korean equivalent to Billboard, IIHY is still in the top 20 on both the digital and download foreign artist charts at #14 and #17, respectively. I'm not sure what the difference is between those two charts, but I do know that digital purchases, according to a recent article, make up 56% of all music bought in Korea. (That compares with just 13.7% in Japan, where physical CDs are still much preferred.)
To give some perspective: IIHY is soaring above big hits released a good two years later, such as Maroon 5's Payphone, and is sharing the top 20 with Katy Perry's Roar and Gaga's Applause. In a music-loving country (of 50 million) where Maroon 5 is practically worshiped, that's quite an achievement!
It's impossible to escape the Psy beer ad featuring IIHY here. It's been playing for almost two months now. Whenever I turn on the TV at night, I catch it at least half a dozen times in both short and long versions. And just last week the popular Korean cable network TVN started using it in one of its promos as well Hot on the heels of Trespassing being used to promote CSI Miami, that's quite a lot of Adam exposure on Korean TV!

Excellent! South Korea. You rock.
Great news.
To those in the know, does Adam get paid for his recording of IIHY on this commercial? Also, Adam does not have his label anymore so is he still making the same royalties for his songs? Excuse my ignorance, but I sure hope Adam is being compensated.

P.S..Very happy for all the exposure for Adam and love South Korean fans!
Royalties, royalties, royalties!
justpeachy
I am not in the know..but, my gut tells me that Adam IS compensated..they are his songs an I am sure he get royalties when they are played..I just cannot imagine that he wouldn't..btw..I feel sure that we will hear very soon that he has signed with another label..
3:28, I know the record label gets paid on the recording and the writers of the song get paid. Not sure if Adam's contract would include residuals when it is played. His contract must have provided for continuing income from album sales if hearing IIHY makes people go buy his cd.
Such great news! Adam's Asian fans have great taste. I hope he is making money from it all. I believe he is.
DRG
great news ! Axel.
I would think Adam gets paid because this is within the realm of business; the ad brings in money so Adam will be paid accordingly. Psy is very aware and most likely runs his own business too.
If I Had You remained for 5 months, #1 on the Sing music charts and subsequently released as a single along with Sleepwalker, FYE, Fever, Aftermath, WWFM. A group of student cadet corps used it in a formation march in a competition in Singapore and won top prize. lol! Was amusingly surprised IIHY could be transformed into a march and another student group used it as a rifle formation presentation; also very amused that IIHY could be associated with rifles/no bullets! lol! Both these videos were posted here.

By the way, the sidebar pictures were taken in Singapore in March when Adam was here.
Adam, very happy for your recent upshot to limelight in all the various high-level gigs; the latest being on VMAs, yes I get that live/on tv.

looks like Dr. Luke will be the third AI judge. He is very qualified and I think he will do well.
To those wondering about artists being compensated for a song used in a commercial . . . I'm positive they do, and hopefully very well. As JustPeachy 3:47pm said, "Royalties, royalties, royalties".
It is a REALLY big deal to have your song used in an expensive commercial... especially with someone like PSY, the most popular pop star in South Korea. GREAT exposure. More valuable than the money? Yes? I think so!

Should have been a hugh hit here as well. Love this song. . . . Adamluv

Only the writer of the song gets paid royalties! That is why it is so important for Adam to get the songs that he has written or co- written played. Adam makes his money from the sale of the cds, concert appearances and merchandise sales. That is why the Beatles were so upset when Michael Jackson brought the rights to the music...
Correction. M. Jackson bought the rights to the Beatles music
So I see there are secret email addresses.
If you write and publish your own songs you get paid big time if that song becomes a hit... Sale your rights and the person who owns your hit gets paid...
Wish people would stop worrying and speculating, if and what Adam gets payed or not, CAUSE
- there ain't no way you KNOW anything for sure (unless you have access to his contracts and agreements)
- the only way fans can influence his income is by buying his music, merch's, going to concerts, POSITIVELY supporting Adam every chance we get to keep him in spotlight and in demand
Just trying to be realistic and positive, :)))
Ah the land of GDragon and Shinee!
How can they not love Adam.
Robin Thicke may be sued for Blurred Lines. The Gaye family is claiming he borrowed heavily from a MG song. I listened to both and they are very similar but I don't know if it is enough to win a lawsuit, I am not very musical.
@8:00 AM You're in the wrong Blog. This is regarding Adam Lambert.
Love this about IIHY and yes it should have been a bigger hit here, but this is great to see!
8:08 aye aye captain.
hey you guys go vote for Avicii most anticipated album release on PopCrush hourly.
I certainly wouldn't say South Korea rocks are you familiar with thier horrific dog/cat illegal meat trade?
Just relax the trading is everywhere in the world!!

Different cultures, different tastes. Muslims won't eat swine (pigs) while we love our bacon, pork chops, pulled pork, baby back ribs, etc. Asians love fried bugs and insects. People in US southern states devour squirrels (bushy tailed rats) raccoon and possum. There are tribes in Africa, New Guiney and elswhere that are cannibals. Go figure. We become squeamish or irate when anyone eats what we consider our pets that's all.
tweet from Adam about what he's wearing to VMAs. It sounds like he irons???
Adam Lambert @adamlambert 2h
Got my Lanvin suit all pressed and ready to party!
Adam will be sitting in the 3rd row tonight at VMA's so hope his gorgeous face gets lots of camera time. Wasn't going to watch but since he is a presenter I will.
Third row! Yeah, that should mean we should get some Adam face time! Whatever his suit is, it will be very sexy, to say the least.
DRG
I would assume Adam sends his suit out for pressing but can press it himself in a pinch.
Lovely day for me today. Its Monday the VMAs are on live at 1pm local time. Getting all my chores done so I can sit down in peace. So glad its my day off.Thrilled.

@11:09 - so agree with you.
@4:51 thanks So many millions are unaware of whats going on over there. Said enough #notodogmeat
I had a pet cow when I was little, she was black and white spotted and I named her Daisy. She came when I called her and nuzzled me for a treat. And I still ate beef.
Eating anything that was once a live animal is questionable and I guess we all make that decision for ourselves....I wouldn't eat my goldfish (Gertie) but I do eat fish I'm not acquainted with weekly......JAK
If you believe in creation...and I know many of you will gasp at that so I'll go another direction. Why would the earth be filled with so many animals, fish and fowl, have so many varieties of vegetables, fruits, nuts and berries if we mere mortals were not to partake of this bounty in order to live, populate it and prosper?
