Why it is necessary to taunt someone with the childish
"Maybe you can do better" ? Maybe they could, but if they are an artist or not they are entitled to their opinion. Most art critics are not artists, but are knowledgable . Must even a simple piece of art stir up ugly remarks?

If we all liked the same art we'd all have reproductions of the same work in our homes, how dull would that be?

I've been doing family portraits for more years than most of you have been alive and quite successfully, even for a couple generations in the same families. Obviously pleased customers.....but I would never allow any of my work to be shown here....JAK

PS... I think this is, as @nancdruuu2 said, a beautiful impression of mother and son.

I like it, I think it captures the essence (as much as we can know, without actually knowing the subjects) of both mother and son.

Doesn't matter if someone is an artist themselves or not, that's what's going to happen when you make your work public. People get to say whether they like it or not. I'm not an artist but I think this is an odd thing for a fan to paint even if it is well done.
