Adam isn't just a singer. He's has a point of view and a message! Way to go for taking a stand Adam!

He's a whole person. He will speak out when he wants to, just as we all do.

First, He is not preaching.
Second, Different opinions are welcome. We do not have to agree with them.
For example I personally believe how we think of guns is how we were brought up. Some are comfortable and smart with them. Some are scared to death and would never think of having one.
Others fear for their safety and believe a gun will solve all that. Others sad to say have no heart and use it against others for there own gain.
The world is evolving. Who new that one day I would be carrying a phone in my pocket. I hope I am here for the day there will be no need for guns.

Adam is a singer and I hope he's not letting his fame go to his head and start spouting politics. I am a devoted Adam fan and I come here to escape politics and political debate which I can find spewed in copious amounts elsewhere. Adam wouldn't be likely to know this, but I do: Some of the very worst weapons offenses are committed by cops. This is a fact that long ago convinced me that nobody should demand that a cop's life is more valuable than yours or mine. "Nuff said.

I am with Adam. Gun nonsense is out of hand. Those of us without guns have rights too. Way to go Adam.

I am proud of Adam's guts to take a stand with political and societal issues. He is in the public eye and he choses to use his visibility to make changes. Good for him! Gun control in fact IS a major issue in this country. The amount of homicides in the US is exponentially higher than in most civilized/modern nations and I am wondering how many more innocent lives have to be lost until lawmakers and stubborn citizens "wake up". The argument for the right of "protection' is way outdated.

If you're an Adam fan, you're a fan of the whole person, not just the singer. You don't have to agree with him in all things, but you can't expect him to never express his opinion about important issues. Lots of celebrities do good work by drawing attention to problems that need solutions. Look at Bono, with his world causes. Look at Brian May with his animal advocacy. No celebrity should have to shut up about their views.

A shooter who is willing to shoot a cop shows that he is willing to kill someone who is in a position of authority and whose job it is to keep the peace. It shows a more intense disregard for human life. This doesn't mean the cop's life is more valuable than yours or mine. It means that the shooter will stop at no level to commit his crime. Sure, some cops are bad, but the majority are not.

Adam reads the horrific news stories about gun killings, and he is upset. Aren't we all? There is no solution to this problem, it has gone on too long. It seems it is our right to carry fire arms, free country and free speech, and all that crap. Adam is a firm believer in free speech, no matter who it hurts, or how crude it is. Free speech has caused many suicides, but Adam believes in free speech. His voice about violence in this country will not be heard, too many crooked politicians. It's nice he feels this way, but what do you do when it's legal to carry guns. Drugs are illegal, but who is going to stop the selling of them. These shootings are not right, but how are the children being raised, and teachers have their hands completely tied as to what they are allowed to teach, or be fired.
The problem about guns could be started in kindergarten, whose 1 in 3 parents own at least one.
Sorry Adam, just duck if you hear gun fire, you cannot stop it.

I believe like most of us the senseless killing of young people in the safety of a school building touched his heart and he had to express something.

Adam is not preaching. He is just expressing his heartfelt opinion about a subject that has been in the news too often with the latest tragedy involving guns. As a retired teacher, I went through those "practice" lockdown procedures and fortunately during my time in the classroom, we never had to put it into effect. Schools should be a place for education, a place for a student to be safe and be able to talk to an adult about any issue or problem. Now we have metal detectors, armed security guards and lockdowns on a regular basis. I always said I felt safe in the classroom and in the school building when I taught at a local high school, but I don't know if I would feel the same way today. Don't ever tell Adam to just sing and shut up @ 9:58AM. That's not what he is about.

I knew Adam would get flack from all the gun advocates when he made that statement. I am sure he realized that too. You could tell he did it out of concern, dismay and exasperation --just like many of us are feeling. Where can you go these days and actually feel safe--a movie theatre? School? Mall? Store? Church? It is very sad. Though I feel everyone has a right to express an opinion--pro or con--I was shocked at some of the tweets that were sent to Adam regarding his opinion. He was called all kinds of names, his career was made fun of, someone said he was Un-American, hates women and children, etc. etc. That is what I don't understand. The anger and disrespect shown from people who were disagreeing with him. I saw no intelligent, calm responses. Made me very concerned about such people who want to carry guns.

I think gun owner need to lock up their guns so children can not access them. Be a responsible parent or their should be a laws about locking up guns and teaching gun safety to all in our public schools. For guns only for police well you can see how that turns out look at Mexico. Police and criminals and the corrupt take control over the people. More to it than that that's why right to bare arms was important in USA.

When I was a young girl, I watched cowboy westerns on TV holding a cap gun and wearing a cowboy hat. I dreamed of being a cowgirl. I GREW UP and put away childish things. I have no use for guns or anyone who is obsessed with them, and I certainly don't support the organization whose sole purpose is to sell more guns, pretending to exist to support the grossly misinterpreted 2nd amendment.I would expect nothing else but what was said by Adam regarding this issue, given his nature and priorities. Speak your mind, Adam. The gunners certainly do. Why shouldn't you?

PS. If you're going to quote what you THINK the 2nd Amendment is about, at least learn the difference between BARE arms and BEAR arms.

I am very proud of Adam for speaking out about his belief on gun control - BUT, I'm very worried about what some of these haters may do to harm him. People who hate are uncontrollable, and I'm a nervous wreck.

Adam has the right to free speech and I have the right to disagree with him. I live in a very rural area in Illinois and the nearest "first responders" are 27 minutes from my home. If an armed intruder comes into my home to harm me or my family, I am going to take my .45 pistol, demand he drop his weapon and hold him at bay, call 911 and wait 27 minutes for them to come and arrest him. If he is uncooperative and goes for one of my family, he will have a .45 hollow point bullet in his body. I am a very good shot, I will not kill him, I will disable him, I will disarm him and I will testify at his trial. I love my family and my life and I will not give up my right to defend myself and my family.

I am a trained and registered gun owner who goes to the shooting range 3 times a year to keep my skills honed. My gun has a combination trigger lock that only I can open. My family is safe. I am much more at ease.

The city of Chicago has a "no gun law" and more people are killed there by guns than anywhere else in the US. I cannot explain or understand it.

Problem is, kids are smart, even the troubled ones. If a kid wants the gun, he will figure out how to get it even if the parents have it locked up. Kids and guns don't mix.
Too many children have been killed by guns even in play by toddlers.

Haters will always hate. Some probably are just using that as an excuse to hate on Adam some of the same what ever you want to call them that come on here and do it. No matter how well he done or what great things are happening for him. I am quite sure Adam career has done and is doing far better than most of theirs. People that act that irrational are usually not very successful and the very people that should not have guns in there hands. More or less hot heads and would not like to see guns in those hands. Not because of any success or non success but because that can face any thing rationally and calmly they go off the deep end unable to handle anyone or thing that disagrees with their views without going off the deep end. I think it's more than trivial that someone doesn't even know the real wording, but is claiming the right. I already posted my opinion on the matter, in the post just above the one you are attacking. Then I noticed the post where someone referred to "bare arms," and I was appalled. I most certainly was serious about it.

I applaud Adam for showing backbone and not being afraid of voicing an opinion publicly. He would rather alienate people than shut up about a cause that he feels strongly about. We need more celebrities like that!

He should speak up about the use of drugs also

Adam is right to point out this almost unlimited, easy access to guns by ordinary people.
Though as pointed out by above Anon who lives in a remote rural area, she needs it to protect herself and family and getting help from 911 or police might take too long, and therefore jeopardising her life and those of her family.
On the sinister side of the equation, yes little kindergarten children getting murdered in their barely started lives, is grotesquely unthinkable. So Adam is quite vocal and rightly so to speak out on his country's imminent gun control problem.
I think an authorised board needs to be formed to research, point out clearly which is the most urgent and effective angle to tackle the problem from; with facts, figures, detailed findings, to disseminate to all concerned parties and solve this massive problem together. So far I've heard quite a bit on this gun issue but no real facts and figures on how to stem this problem; at least minimise it if the problem can't entirely be solved. Right now, the gun problem is escalating, like a free-fall and getting quite out of hand. For instance, may there be some kind of ring-leadership involved for their own agenda, whatever that may be. As a good, responsible American citizen, Adam has every right to speak out and should not be silenced nor bashed.

He won't speak out on drugs and alcohol. That might cramp his own style a little bit. He even admits he over indulges often, and we know he has done the drug scene. I don't think Brian and Roger are above a snort or two, or they wouldn't be real English people. But I am sure they are keeping mostly to their hotel rooms for right now. If Adams hair is so easily recognizable in public, how the heck does Brian get around, without being noticed.

Lammy. There is a ring leadership involved. The NRA (National Rifle Association) are in the pockets of the gun manufacturers and the corrupt politicians are in the pockets of the NRA. Sensible gun laws are denied by those politicians in congress. The money flow to their re-election campaigns would stop.

Families who wish to have a weapon to protect and defend their home against invasion and danger are certainly allowed to do so. Hopefully that weapon is in a secure place and not available to children.

However killing machines that can slaughter a dozen or more people with one clip should not be allowed.
Why won't the NRA approve of that? I doubt hunters need to decimate a deer with an automatic rifle so that argument is stupid.

As I said in the first thread about this topic, two of my loved ones were in close proximity of shooters in Santa Monica College and UC Santa Barbara school shooting incidents. It's a horrific experience when something like this happens so close to people you love.

Lam-my - We do have "an authorized board" in the United States. It is called the Supreme Court whose duty of the 9 presidentially appointed Justices on that court is to uphold the Constitution of the United States. The Second Amendment to the Constitution gives every lawful citizen the right to bear arms. One can own guns or not as they see fit. Since the Second Amendment has been upheld by the Supreme Court the 4 times it has been challenged, I doubt very much that it will ever be overturned. Gun laws are also written in each individual state's constitution and therefore differ from state to state. In some states you can be 18 and get a licence to be a registered gun owner while in most the legal age is 21. In some states there is a waiting period from registering to actual receipt of the firearm from 10 to 30 days while in others you can register and take receipt of your firearm within an hour or two. In no state can you have committed a felony, been tried and found guilty and spent time in jail and register for a gun licence. You also cannot have spent any time in a mental institution or hospital. Every year stricter gun laws are written in many states and passed by their legislatures such as posted by the lawful rural gun owner above where it is pointed out that Chicago, IL has a strict no gun law but the highest number of deaths by firearms in America.
