American Idol star Adam Lambert joined legendary rock band Queen
for a once-in-a-lifetime tour this summer, kicking off in North America
before heading to Canada and Australia. Working as part of the creative
team, we were asked to produce visual content for the 18-song set to
engage and amaze the audience.
Having worked with industry-renowned creative and lighting designer Rob Sinclair on numerous concerts previously (including artists such as Goldfrapp and Petshopboys), he came directly to us for content support on Queen’s latest world tour. With the potential of 14 songs requiring visual content on the central circular video wall, we really had our work cut out. We worked closely with the band in their UK rehearsals on the initial design, but as the tour drew closer, our team of five animators flew out to LA with their equipment to fine tune the visuals with the completed stage build. We brought the central 100m2 LED display to life with visually spectacular content consisting of a mix of animations and iconic, archive camera footage featuring original band member Freddie Mercury, to create the illusion he was performing live. In true rock and roll style we were finalising content right up until the opening night, taking a smaller team of four to the United Center, Chicago to make any last minute tweaks and deliver an unforgettable experience for fans.
