Adam Lambert No Freddie Mercury, But Next Best Thing!

Adam Lambert, in his new role as front man for Queen, rocked Houston on Wednesday night, during one the band’s few southern stops on its summer tour. Sources say it didn’t take long for the crowd to warm up to Lambert, whose vocal abilities sold them–if not before–then definitely during his rendition of ‘Somebody to Love.’
Since Freddie Mercury’s passing back in 1991, finding a viable replacement with the vocal talent and similar over-the-top style to fill his larger-than-life shoes has been a difficult task for the band. Adam Lambert likely represents the end to that task. His glitz and glam via multiple costume changes compared to those of Cher–as well as his penchant for leopard print, leather, and fringe–kept the crowd singing along, cheering, and remembering Mercury, who died of HIV/AIDS. Film clips of Mercury’s performances from the 1980s peppered Wednesday’s performance, with Adam Lambert even ceding the vocals of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ to his late, great predecessor. It was plain to see that Lambert had achieved the very delicate balance of leading with his vocals while still honoring Freddie Mercury–and with some of the band’s original fans in the audience–that was no small feat.
Adam Lambert reportedly had more of a ‘practiced showmanship’ style than that of Freddie Mercury, who always kept his feet very firmly planted in the rock genre, but that was probably needed to prevent fans from thinking they were at a tribute show instead of a revitalized version of a classic rock band.
The night after his Houston performance, Adam Lambert was rocking the crowd in Dallas.
If any Queen fans held off their opinions of Adam Lambert until the encore, then they were sold the minute the young singer returned to the stage. His renditions of ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘We Are the Champions’ left little to no doubt in their minds.
Adam Lambert is no Freddie Mercury. Mercury is irreplaceable in the rock world. But as a singer who can lead Queen into several more years of sold out performances–it sounds like Lambert might just be the next best thing.

‘Idol’ Adam Lambert lands in Hollywood Hills | Hot Property!

Filed Under () by Adam Lambert on

Five years after his “American Idol” appearance helped launch a successful music career, Adam Lambert has bought a home in Hollywood Hills West in Los Angeles for nearly $3 million.

Adam Lambert, an “American Idol” runner-up who has gone on to a successful career in music, has bought a home in Hollywood Hills West in Los Angeles for $2.995 million.
The three-bedroom, four-bath house was built in 1947 and has been heavily renovated. A sweeping exterior staircase follows the shape of a curved wall with a tall glass-brick window.
The nearly 3,800 square feet of living space includes a dining room with a floor-to-ceiling climate-controlled wine room, an oversize kitchen with commercial-grade appliances and a diner-style booth/breakfast room, a den with a fireplace, a screening room and a gym.
The master suite has a fireplace, a sitting area and a bathroom that looks like a spa.
Ferns and lush landscaping fill the courtyard-style backyard, which features a grotto spa.
Lambert, 32, took second place on a hotly contested “Idol” season in 2009, the same year he released the album “For Your Entertainment.”
While he has continued to release albums and tour, he also has been doing soundtrack work for television as well as acting. Since last year, he has been on five episodes of “Glee.”
He is touring North America, Asia and Australia this summer with Queen, filling in for the late Freddie Mercury.

Dallas Morning News Concert Review: "Royal Flush: Queen + Adam Lambert Prove They're Still The Champions"

Dallas Morning News

"Royal Flush: Queen + Adam Lambert Prove They’re Still The Champions"

By JOY TIPPING Staff Writer jtipping@dallasnews.com Published: 11 July 2014 12:38 PM Updated: 11 July 2014 03:13 PM

Excerpts: (read the FULL review at the link below...every word is more than worth reading!!!)

"Flashback to the ’70s? Male lead singer in leather, lace and leopard-print outfits, replete with sequins, platforms and occasional Elvisian sneer? Check. Howling anthems interspersed with wringingly emotional ballads? You betcha. Self-indulgent but crowd-pleasing 16-minute guitar solo? Smoke machines on overdrive and a tripped-out set that didn’t actually do much of anything? Oh, definitely. So yeah, watching Queen + Adam Lambert on Thursday night at American Airlines Center was, indeed, a little bit like entering a way-cool, hyped-up time machine with several thousand other folks who were all digging every minute of it. AAC hasn’t rocked like that since ... well, since shows like this were held at Reunion Arena."

"Was it a success? Absolutely."

"Lambert was Lambert all the way in this show, which expertly walked the precarious line — these are Queen fans, after all, and they are serious about their rock — between introducing “the new kid,” as lead guitarist/vocalist Brian May jokingly called Lambert, and making sure that everyone knew that Mercury, who died at age 45 in 1991 from complications of AIDS, remains the heart and beating soul of Queen[...............]...the Thursday-night crowd seemed to be all-in in accepting Lambert as the next best thing they’re ever going to find for Mercury."

"Along with Lambert’s incendiary vocals, an all-too-rare commodity rippled through the show: utter graciousness. Lambert made no attempt to take things over, simply trusting in the power of his voice, sexiness and shocking charisma (all every bit a match for Mercury’s) to carry things....................................."

..."The crowd seemed equally entranced with both New Queen (Lambert) and old (extended clips of Mercury playing on the bright, moving Q-shaped set piece/screen that dominated the stage)."

..."Later, there was a gorgeous few beats of pure synchronicity during “Bohemian Rhapsody,” with Lambert and Mercury singing alternate lines and sounding, truly, as if they were both right there. Lambert positively soared with the haunting “Love Kills,” which was Mercury’s first solo effort..."

"Other highlights: the singalong-thump of “Radio Ga Ga,” the naughty-but-fun “Fat Bottomed Girls” and the loopy “Killer Queen,” when Lambert sprawled across a chaise lounge and actually rolled his eyes, in good-natured jest, at yet another May solo......"

"Will the fabulous partnership continue? We can only hope...."

"What we want most: An album with all-new music, and Lambert on vocals. That would announce Queen’s full arrival into the 21st century, and we’d be ecstatic."

Stepping In, Out in Front!

Filed Under () by Adam Lambert on

Posted at : Thursday, July 10, 2014

It used to be called the Sammy Hagar Conundrum and lately has been rebranded as the Arnel Pineda Provocation: What to do when your favorite band takes to the road, and the recording studio, with a new person out front singing? This is an especially perplexing circumstance for fans of Queen, whose frontman, Freddie Mercury, died in 1991, and left a long shadow — in voice and attitude — that few would even try to fill.
But the rest of the band members are mindful of the group’s legacy, and are always on the lookout for opportunities, though they may not have expected to find one on the “American Idol” stage. It was there in 2009 that they collaborated with Adam Lambert, the most theatrical contestant in the show’s history, and one of its most gifted vocalists, too. (They also played with the eventual winner, Kris Allen, a mouse next to Lambert’s cheetah.)
Five years later, Mr. Lambert is fronting Queen on tour — no Freddie Mercury, but an unexpected, worthy place holder. (Thursday, Madison Square Garden; thegarden.com.)

Queen + Adam Lambert: A Musician's Perspective by "The Real Wizard" on July 9, 2014

EXCERPTS:

"In my general absence here as of late, I thought I'd offer a little something to the ongoing discussion about the current tour." "The negativity on this forum is not unexpected, but still incredibly disappointing to witness. A decade ago Queen fans were aching for any kind of collaboration between Brian and Roger, never mind full-scale tours where they are playing songs they haven't played in 30 years (or ever)."

"Those who found Paul Rodgers unfit for Queen's throne said he was too masculine, too bluesy, too different from what Queen once were. Now they have a flamboyant frontman who wears six outfits like Cher, has an incredible vocal range, and has his own approach to theatricality that smoothly blends into what Queen were all about. Comparing Adam Lambert (or anyone) to the timeless, unadulterated, irreplaceable genius of Freddie Mercury is pointless - but there is no rationale in arguing that he doesn't fit the profile. He does, perfectly. Equally pointless is turning it into an either/or boolean type equation. This mentality is why people of one religion are able to smite those of another. At the risk of sounding pathetically mundane, can't we all just get along?"

"It's easy to throw stones from your glass house, and so much harder to cast your ego or tastes aside and simply be happy that these guys who formed a band you supposedly love are touring again. Do you think they're playing Now I'm Here, Stone Cold Crazy and Love Kills for the man on the street? No, you numbskulls. They're playing it for YOU - you know, the thousands of people who read forums like this and have been waiting 30 years for Queen to tour the US and play the old songs again. They're saying thanks for waiting for the circumstances to present themselves and for the right moment to arrive. And that moment is now. And you're all too stuck in the past and your own anger to notice. Instead of trying on a different coloured shirt, you're on setlist.fm changing every song of every show to "Queen cover," as if to imply that your definition of Queen is more valid than the people who formed the band. To quote the great Roger Taylor - I pity you. You suck."

"So I echo the sentiments of those who say the naysayers tend to be unhappy people who want to drag happy and successful people down to the basement of life where they currently reside rather than seek their own happiness. I fear that many people will be kicking themselves one day for choosing to miss out on what may be the final tour of the remaining members of Queen. I don't expect to change anyone's mind, but stranger things have happened."

Queen + Adam Lambert: One Of "Houston's 10 Best Concerts Between Now and Labor Day"

[I need to find out the source of this pic.... and will credit the photographer as soon as I do].. But in the meantime, ENJOY! From Houston Queen + Adam Lambert concert 7-9-14

From the Houston Press (From Monday, July 7th, 2014)

"Houston's 10 BEST Concerts Between Now And Labor Day"

"Queen + Adam Lambert Toyota Center, July 9"

"Look. It pains me to say it as much as you to read it: Freddie Mercury is dead. And terrible but true, he's never coming back. So in turn, unless you're in a lucky small percentage of Houston or have invented an effective time machine, you'll never see the original Queen live. Ever. But as irreplaceable as Freddie Mercury is, there is hope in Adam Lambert."

"I can't definitively say that he's the second coming of Mercury, nor would I try. But Lambert is insanely talented, able to carry any tune wherever it should go and vocally experiment where it shouldn't. Like Mercury, he is a great performer who isn't afraid to let it all out. He will never impersonate Mercury. He will be Adam, loving Freddie while kicking his own kind of ass, and he shall prevail."

Review:

"With Lambert in the lead, Queen brings back musical memories with new twists"

Photo description: "Guitarist Brian May and Adam Lambert led Queen in performance at the Toyota Center on Wednesday night."

Excerpts from the longer article:

"Lambert brought his own style to Queen's hits while staying true to the original versions. Excerpts: If there were any qualms from Houston fans Wednesday night about Adam Lambert slipping into the studded leather of the late, great Freddie Mercury, they were silenced when the "American Idol" finalist lent his swooping vocals to "Fat Bottomed Girls."  "

"The audience, already enthusiastic through opening tunes "Stone Cold Crazy" and "Another One Bites the Dust," hit a fever pitch amid the thundering harmonies. It set a jubilant tone for the rest of the show." ...........................................

Music Adam Lambert ably fills in as Queen frontman at the Joint!

Filed Under () by Adam Lambert on

Posted at : Monday, July 07, 2014

Queen + Adam Lambert July 5, The Joint
Freddie Mercury is irreplaceable, and to their credit, Mercury’s former Queen bandmates Brian May and Roger Taylor seem to understand that. Whenever they’ve performed live in the years following the singer’s 1991 death, they’ve always billed Mercury’s fill-ins separately rather than as members of Queen, and the band’s latest tour is credited to Queen + Adam Lambert.
Mercury’s presence loomed large over Queen and Lambert’s show at the Joint on Saturday night, and not just because his face frequently popped up on the video screen. The last person to front Queen for an extended period of time, Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers, didn’t have much in common with Mercury, but American Idol alum Lambert is an avowed Mercury devotee, and his flamboyant, glamorous vocal and performance style (not to mention his fashion sense) echo Mercury closely.
Which means either that Lambert is the ideal person to perform Queen classics, or that he makes the show into too much of a tribute act. For the sold-out crowd at the Joint (most of whom were probably old enough to be Lambert’s parents), the distinction didn’t matter, and for his part, Lambert never seemed to be pandering to Queen fans. Not surprisingly, he sounded best on the band’s more bombastic tunes (especially ballads like “Who Wants to Live Forever” and the reworked Freddie Mercury solo song “Love Kills”), and got a little lost on hard rockers like “Stone Cold Crazy” and “Tie Your Mother Down.” But he nailed the theatricality of “Killer Queen” (lounging on what looked like a Victorian fainting couch), and the crowd enjoyed his addition of somewhat tiresome Idol-style melisma at various points.
May and Taylor were augmented by three additional musicians (including Taylor’s son Rufus on percussion), and they nearly matched Lambert’s energy. Both took respectable turns on lead vocals (with Taylor taking the David Bowie parts on “Under Pressure”) and gave proper deference to Mercury, whose own recorded vocals filled in at various points. Lambert took the stage for the encore wearing an actual crown, but there was no question who was still the Queen.
