Adam Lambert wants to keep Freddie Mercury's 'memory alive' without replacing him as he joins Queen

Adam Lambert has insisted he'll never replace Queen legend Freddie Mercury as he joins forces with the band, but instead hopes to keep his "memory alive".
The former American Idol star joined the rock band for an incredible performance for New Year, starting a hugely popular collaboration for the artists, and has been showered with praise ever since.
But the singer insists he never tries to imitate or replace Freddie - who died in 1991 at the age of 45 - and his main motivation for singing with Queen is to keep his idol's wonderful music alive.
The 32-year-old rocker told the new issue of Classic Rock magazine: "There's never going to be another (Freddie), and I'm not replacing him.

"That's not what I'm doing. I'm trying to keep the memory alive, and remind people how amazing he was, without imitating him. I'm trying to share with the audience how much he inspired me."
Find out more about Adam Lambert here.
Queen guitarist Brian May has praised Adam's vocal abilities, and says he is the first singer he has worked with since Freddie's passing who can perform all of their songs.
He added to the mag: "Adam is the first person we've encountered who can do all the Queen catalogue without blinking. He is a gift from god."
Drummer Roger Taylor is also blown away by Adam's talent, adding: "(His voice is) one in a billion ... He's incredibly musical, and we certainly take anything he says quite seriously."

THAT smile during the opening lines of DSMO set the tone for the whole night. I have watched this particular segment countless times. It oozes confidence and sexiness and commands undivided attention. Hot!

I wish people would just start
appreciating Adam for being and doing Adam; enough is enough! Time for him to carry his own torch. These same old tired questions are getting old; and these reporters and writers know better. Freddie was great everyone who loved him and his music knows that.

But, Adam is great too; in his own right. He is so gracious about it all; so sweet and humble. But, he keeps reminding people in his on kind and clever way; that he brings his own shoes!

I get sick of them always insinuating that Adam is less then, and trying to make him feel that way. Adam is just as good as Freddie was, in his own right.
I find it very unfair that he has to continually qualify himself, regarding another entertainer who would be twice his age if he had lived!

In my opinion, this just needs to stop; Adam does not deserve this. Every interview he has to answer the same old question; not trying to be Freddie; etc. Dare I say, Adam is probably tired of answering it too! Enough! On with the show with Queen + Adam Lambert; at least for the time being!! There, I said it!!

I think these comparisons and questions will continue as long as Adam sings with Queen.....he's singing Freddie's songs. They have the Freddie stamp on them forever.

It would be different if he were singing new material.
I doubt that will happen with Queen. Working with Queen has been a great boost for him, but he does need to move on soon.

After this tour, he needs to get the album out and hopefully tour with that.....Adam Lambert, not + or featuring. Just an Adam Lambert tour.

JAK, I totally agree.

It will be good for Adam to start a new chapter soon while at the same time he may not have to completely close the one with Queen. Interesting how the constant "gay" questions have been substituted with the Freddie comparisons. This is probably not fair but it could be worse. He's definitely someone to talk about.
