TOH Review: Houston Chronicle

The Houston Chronicle's Joey Guerra reviews TOH....

"The title track is a slick ode to '90s house divas highlighted by Lambert's elegant vocal delivery.    ...   'Another Lonely Night' is gorgeous, pleading and sounds like a hit. It's what would happen if Bruno Mars or Ed Sheeran truly knew their way around a dance track."

Gotta say, my fav track is Another Lonely Night. I was thrilled to hear him perform it at iheart yesterday. It's just that much better when watching him perform it.

A bit OT ... but a pic of Adam AND a video of him is on my AOL homepage this morning!!!!! Wow! He is REALLY getting a lot of promotion! Thanks WB! Makes me so happy.

Hope some one can help I have been voting on iheart poll for song of the summer a lot but when I vote it takes a little away from Adam & One Direction gains a little I am afraid to vote now I want adam to win not cause him to loose.

Who will be No 1 with Ryan Seacrest A T 40 it is so close please vote

Anonymous said...

10:53 AM, you mean the AT40 song of the week? If so, that is not because of you specifically. Maybe the Directioners are voting more than the Glamberts at the moment.

Depending on when I was voting yesterday Adam's number was steady, moving down or moving up.

Yes that is what I mean I just called them they said there was a problem with the site they would look into

I hope adam gets a grammy for this TOH and goes on tour *fingers crossed*

daydreamin....My favorite track is also Another Lonely Night. When he sang it yesterday...it gave me goosebumps!! I can really see this being a huge hit on radio over any other tracks, like the writer said:) Let's hope he picks it! I think the duet with Tove Lo would have radio success as well. Cheri xo

I do agree with this reviewer that GT is a little too strange for some listeners. I love it, but then, I love Adam. ALN would make a good single, IMO. It's more mainstream but still smart and edgy. I think single#2 will be either TOH or ALN. Unless they decide to throw EITN in there. That one would me better for single #3 IMO. I'm just reveling in all Adam's performances and appearances these past weeks.

I think Evil in the night is the best one for radio. Why he picked ghost town. It never fails. I hope he can recover from this.

I love ALN. So emotional, full of heartache, hindsight, pain and is the perfect breakup song. So many feelings are evoked by Adam's searing vocals. Feels like Adam really dug down deep to pour out his heart and soul. Think we'd all like to meet someone who'd inspire such rawness and realism. So vulnerable and sad. Adam has really gotten the promo he deserves and clearly has dedicated himself to making this album work. Only thing I worry about is that Adam has gotten rave reviews before for TP, but America did not give him the recognition by purchasing his music. The US music industry is a travesty, if Adam doesn't prevail this time. This surpasses genre. WB has clearly thrown everything and more into this and the general public needs to respond.
OTT SK is competing in a extreme fitness challenge. Hope he and his partner Ms. Helsinki 2015 do well.

I just bought a hard copy from Target yesterday. :) They had it in the New Releases on the endcap, both the regular and deluxe (both explicit versions). Love jamming to it in my car now!

Love this review....with one exception, I wish the reviewers would not knock Kris Allen. That's unkind and not necessary.
He mentioned my favorites...so far! ALN (great!)...TOH...(ditto)...and These Boys...it appears I hum this constantly and am getting dirty looks
from my guy. I am a constant hummer....but I do it softly.

Slightly OT....there is a children's home in our neighborhood and I enjoy 'gifting' different age groups. When FYE came out I brought cds for the teen girls...then again for Trespassing. So, I had the pleasure of hitting Target for 6 albums of TOH yesterday. However two 13 year olds
asked for Mika instead!!! (traitors!)
Actually, I like Mika too!...................JAK

Re: No 1 with Ryan Seacrest A T 40 I have noticed that you can vote up to 25 times, then it will tell you they have already counted your vote if you try to do it again. You can wait 5 minutes, then go back in and vote another 25 times. We are competing against One Direction and they have a large fan base. I think that is why it is so hard to pull way ahead. Also don't forget to vote on http://www.z100.com/pages/contest/artist-of-the-summer/mobile.php#/m.. We are ahead right now, but again, we need to keep voting to stay ahead. The new album is the bomb. Yeah

Please leave some CDs at the stores for people who see Adam on TV this week, especially on Friday (GMA and Kelly & Michael), and order your CDs from Amazon.

Please keep streaming Ghost Town.

Both of these important as it looks like James Taylor's album debuting this week is doing quite well.

Recover from what?? You act like Adam has come down with an illiness. I think every song has something special for someone. I think that Adam and Warner Music have their reasons for what and why they picked a cd. Even if it was just his decision; I respect him for that, he said he has and will pick what he likes for singles. I just wonder why some people feel that they have the right to make decisions for Adam. He will never please everyone; and I think he is doing quite well. I think maybe you should be the one to recover from your preceived, "know better than Adam what is best for his career" attitude!

I and many others I have read about love Ghost Town, and think it was a great decision! Even if another one does better later as a single. Still does not mean his first choice a bad one, and definitely nothing he has to recover from!!

Different songs appeal to different people. He has said there is something on this album for everyone. From all indications, that is the truth. Everyone of the songs are just wonderful; and the billion dollar voice brings them all to life.

I have got three on the way from Amazon! Yesterday in the Walmart I was in with DH, I told him was going to see if they had Adam's cd. They had the non bonus one; so I went and asked the two clerks who were talking; if they had the bonus. Anyway I have 2 bonus Ghost Town's on the way. What pleased me was one of sales person was obviously a Glambert, because she said, "oh I love him, use to see him on Idol". Made me feel so good. We talked about him for awhile; then left to find DH. He was not surprised I had purchased another!

Love the album, also thought that comparing the other songs to Ghost Town, it was a poor choice for the first single. There are some other songs that are way better dance tunes, and thought provoking lyrics. If Ghost Town was all I had to compare with if I were to buy the album, I would not have bought it. But because I am an Adam fan, I knew he would probably have some better songs on the album, I did of course buy it. It proved right, the other songs are really good, and the tunes , lyrics and Adams voice are fantastic. Don't really care for the Tove Lo duet either.
If Adam has his heart set on a tour, which I assume he has, I hope he gets the radio support he needs and also sales. I hope the US doesn't let him down again, but if all else fails, I am sure he will tour in other countries, where he seems to do better.

Anonymous said...

7:55 PM that's all the US had done is let Adam down.

I love Ghost Town, think it was a great first choice. That is why I purchased the album. Was not that familiar with his music. Now an avid fan. Love the Ghost Tow Video. I could not wait for mine to arrive; so I too went out and bought a CD at my local Target. I tell you, that Album is God Sent. I love having the physical copy in my hand. His gorgeous face. With each new single, he will get more radio play and more fans like me!! Listening over and over again. He is such a great artist!!

7:55 PM & 8:27 PM

Who are you people, seems like the same Debbie Downer or Negative Nick? No one has let Adam down, bad choice of words to say the US has let him down, I have not; and I am a part of the US, he has new fans and many more to come, right here in the good old USA!! 38 thousand cd's sold; not bad at all first week, all things considered. Most sells for artists for cd's are down; unless you are Taylor or a major recording artist. Look at Nate, Jason D., streaming and free copies are taking it's toll; nothing new.

Adam is doing just fine. With each new singles he will pick up more and more fans. He is getting radio play. 38 thousand his first week; after 3 years is wonderful; and it will keep getting better with fan support. Adam has a wonderful career to look forward to. He is financial stable. More Queen work coming. He is also an international star. So proud of him. Love all this great promotion. He certainly does not need or deserve the downtrodden negative vibes around him, he needs positive fans, who think as realist, some don't sound like fans at all. Congratulations Adam. You are finally getting a foothold in radio play and it's only going to get better. NEXT...

I thought he had 2.4 million followers, why aren't they buying his album. Or is this just US buyers? Other countries don't count may be.

Another really good review.

@8:51 PM
People are entitled to their opinion which doesn't have to agree with your opinion. There's no need to be so defensive.

I'm not a fan of Ghost Town but it's a great album. Another Lonely Night is a lovely song and has subtle shades of Never Close Our Eyes. I love The Original High and There I Said It.

I love Ghost Town and so does my teenage daughter. It's her favorite song on the album. Adam is doing well and his team is really behind him. This is just the beginning of a new chapter!!

Streaming the album on Spotify...and the single on Youtube. I will buy/gift a few more albums.

@Gabi, I love Ghost Town also and so does my teenage son. My boss likes it too. Funny story .....I was getting kind of bummed not hearing the song on the top 40 station in the Madison WI area, but I'm at a hotel about 2 hours north of that for a conference and have heard it twice in the hotel hallway. :))

I personally agree with you; people are entitled to their own opinions. Also, others are entitled to express their opinions about those opinions on a blog site! I agree with he or she at 8:51pm, very well said.

My question to you, is why don't you respect everyone's opinion instead of picking or choosing what you agree or disagree with? Seem as though you may be defending your own ridculous comments; just my opinion of course! Why don't you take the advise you are giving the poster at 8:51pm, and stop being so defensive?? js

@9:44 pm

You are kidding right? If all twitter followers bought every artist they followed records; Taylor swift would sell more then her million; I think she has millions more twitter followers than that. Twitter followers are just that, not always buyers. Check out other artist twitter followers, then look at their sells; then you will see what I mean. Not near the same as cd sells, they would wish. So lets us get real here. Adam's doing great and it's only going to get better. Don't forget GMA CONCERT TOMORROW. Exciting times for our man!!!! He is "THE LIGHT", and he's shining bright!!!!

@7:55 pm
I hear you, but unlike you; I would have supported Adam and bought his album even if he was singing the phone book. I love him as an artist, and as a man of dignity and strength, and will support him all the way. So, one song someone may not like, and they would not buy the album? I would not call that a supportive fan. But, to each their own. I just know that Adam can sing anything. Right now, it is not about me; it is about Adam and helping him to reach his career goals!! But, for the record; I love every song on this album. Some may move me emotionally more than others. But, it is a masterpiece of an album.

Hail to the one and only Mr. Adam M. Lambert! More and more people are supporting him every day. I am so proud of this man. Through the ups and downs; our baby is still standing, and all of his devoted fans are right there with him and he shines in that knowledge!! Like someone said on another thread; "we are the wind beneath his beautilful, talented wings"! I say amene to that!! Bella
