Toronto Sun: Top 10 Toronto concerts of 2017 #6 @QueenWillRock @adamlambert July 18, Air Canada Centre

6. Queen & Adam Lambert, July 18, Air Canada Centre
The first perfectly scored show of the year found veteran British guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor and onetime American Idol alum Adam Lambert finally gelling after five years of touring together. The flawless show was also big on emotion. When Under Pressure was dedicated to David Bowie, followed by the solemn Who Wants To Live Forever, it was waterworks time.

  1. What? QAL not No. 1? Unbelievable! They ARE according to the Ultimate Classic Rock Tour of 2017 Poll....so far.

  2. In the article, the "Top 10 Toronto Concerts of 2017" are listed in chronological order, not in order of which one was the "best" concert.

Queen + Adam Lambert was #6 in order of the concert date in 2017 they performed (July 18th, 2017) i.e. mid year.

The #6 in the thread title is somewhat misleading unless you read the linked article.

  4. What do they mean "finally gelling?"

  5. Glitzy lady...I did read the article first, but managed to miss the "chronoligical order" remark at the very beginning. Glad you brought it to my attention. Like Artemis, I do wonder about "finally gelling".

  7. I had a question about the "finally gelling" phrase too, but to be positive about it, both past & present tense, I do think this 2017 tour was absolutely perfect and was even better than the other tours, and they were awesome.. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say that's what they probably meant 👑 😇

  8. O.K. I can relate to that. In truth, this last tour WAS better than the previous one. Queen and Adam meshed perfectly, symbiotically, this last time around....and the lighting and stage effects were outstanding, OTT.

  9. The QAL has evolved into a seamless, high-quality show. It's not just a bunch of songs strung together. It's got spontaneity and humor. There are no big orchestrated dance numbers. Perfect in my book.

  10. Adam's moves are all the "dancing" I want to see --he absolutely radiates "Queen music" in his body's response to every drumbeat and note....dynamic and graceful. They are all perfectly meshed together...like one organism.

It's a testament to the brilliant musicianship of the band that they "bob and weave" right along with Adam's variations and ad libs without a glitch... and all LIVE!

More than one reviewer has noted their amazing synchronization this time around. They couldn't do that without the love and admiration they have for each other...and the fun they're having together. Their closeness to Adam is palpable!

It could have been much different, you know. If Queen had taken a tight control of Adam from the beginning, instead of giving him free rein, we would never be seeing the warm, funny, joyous, exuberant, spontaneous shows that they have evolved to. Spectacular, yes, that's all technical. Brilliant music, yes, because it's Queen. But the human factor....the "Adam factor"... is what has "kicked them up a notch", so to speak.

They released Adam to fly free...and oh my...how he has flown! Even more...they have all flown with him! How clever and perceptive of Brian and Roger to "give Adam his head"..to see his potential... and to trust his instincts! That took great courage on their parts....so much was at stake.
