Here are the LIVE Performances for all of the nominees for this category. This is to give you an idea of what Adam is up against.

Adam Lambert - Whataya Want from Me (Ellen)

Michael Bublé - Haven't Met You Yet (Live On Ellen)

John Mayer - Half Of My Heart

Bruno Mars Preforms "Just The Way You Are" on Ellen

Michael Jackson"This Is It" (Song)

What do you think? Does Adam have the best vocals for a performance? Who is Adam's biggest competition?

Special thanks to kittykay!

Will they ever let MJ go? I'm going out on a limb and will say that probably MJ will get a posthumous award, yet again.

Well I just dont know. Adam has the pureist voice of all the tone is exceptional and cyrstal clear. But he is up against the"King of Pop" Who is a legend but hasnt he had his turn, dont want to sound callous but there will be a lot of sentamental voting I am gussing. If Adam was out of the equation I would choose Micahel Buble and Bruno Mars. But of course to me without even being biased truthfully I ould choose Adams voice.

No competition Adam all the way.. but think Michael Buble good, but maybe as Michael Jackson died... Anyway just great that he has been recognised at last.

MJ was one of the greatest icon but if we bring MJ out to compete with other living stars then we have to bring ELVIS and FREDDY MERCURY out for competing too ! That's not fair for the current living stars ! that's RIDICULOUS ! (even i am a big fan of both MJ and ELVIS)

Anonymous said...

I think Adam's biggest competition is Bruno Mars. He is fabulous and that song is fabulous. I think Adam would agree. It doesn't matter. Regardless of what happens, Adam will be back. Talent exposed is talent that will survive.

Julia said...

Ok. Listened to the competitors up there, this is my opinion. John Mayer sounds like Kris Ellen, M.Bubble is not my style don't have charisma, B.Mars sounds like immitate someone that i cannot remember, MJ is the only competitor but like i said previous comment i think people should let MJ go. If not, let MJ compete with Elvis only. Otherwise it is NOT FAIR !

Julia said...

That's right ! No competitor ! ADAM is the LIVING STAR who deserve to WIN this GRAMMY AWARD. Period !

MJ's voice doesn't sound good on This Is It. It is beautifuly produced but if you listen only to his vocal performance it's not good. I love Adam's live performance compare to other ones. Bruno Mars studio recording is way better than his live performance. Michael Buble is great but if you go to his live performance he isn't as great. Same goes for Mayer. To me I think Adam's live performance and his vocal ability is phenomenal. He has a great chance to win this category. But if not still getting the nomination for a song, that was recorded in one day and that was when he was on his Idol rigorous nightly tour performances, is still a high achievement for an artist.

I always find it unfair when an artist has to compete with someone who has passed away. I believe MJ will win but so hope I'm wrong. Adamluv

adam sounds amazing live and studio recordings but i think bruno mars is currently more popular than adam. don't get me wrong, i am an adam fan and don't buy bruno's songs but based on youtube followers bruno has millions ahead of adam. i am still hoping adam will win.

Like all industry awards shows, the Grammys are political. Doubt John Mayer will win, because he's not that well liked. Buble is a perennial favorite, but this isn't any kind of breakout year for him. So really, it's between Adam, MJ and Bruno Mars. Unfortunately, Mars might have the "tidal wave" effect going for him, since he got a slew of noms. Think Taylor Swift. It isn't always the most talented person who wins, sometimes the one with the most noms just sweeps up.

And then, of course, there's the MJ "nostalgia" train. So Adam has his work cut out for him. I'd be surprised if he won this year, the voters will probably think they did enough to acknowledge him. I hate to say that, because I'm a huge and rabid Adam fan. Personally, I think he should have received MORE than one nom. And I'm sure there are more Grammy noms in his future, as he distances himself from AI.

But, I'm glad they realized he SHOULD and MUST be invited to the party! I'll probably only watch because of him. Can't wait to see what he wears. :)

Adam has the best vocals - technically and talent wise. Hopefully he will win. It is time to let Michael Jackson rest in peace. I loved his music but it is time for Adam Lambert to be recognized for the talent he possesses. I am pretty sure MJ would vote for Adam.

Anonymous said...

The consensus seems to favor Bruno Mars. Hope it is wrong. Adam should win but probably won 't (homophobias again!)

I agree with 2:47, the dead have the advantage. If Buble wins, I'm done with Grammies

A D A M - Best on every possible way! THE VOICE!!! He SHOULD abso-effing-lutely win, if the there was justice in the (music) world...

Bruno M, Michael B and John M do NOTHING for me - they LACK charisma, stage presence, looks, sexy, voice & singing power!

Michael J - RIP

GGD Gal, always cheering/voting for Adam

Keep in mind, this category is Best Male Pop Vocal PERFORMANCE....based solely on the song that is attached to the artist: Adam & WWFM. It's (allegedly) not based on the singer's entire repertoire, just the one song. So, it's really about how good they each performed that one song (and I know, Adam did it great). I'd like to believe that Adam will win out. Somehow though, I think it will be Bruno Mars.

Anonymous said...

Such a rare treat to hear the album version of WWFM.

No one else can come close to "The Voice"! So happy for Adam and his family right now. You know they must be giddy with excitement. I sincerely hope he brings home the award, but I no longer have any faith in awards shows. *sigh* (I will still watch with my fingers crossed, though.)

Anonymous said...

I can't really be impartial. If it was live performances, Adam would win hands down... I think the biggest competition is Bruno Mars. He has alot of nominations, people are liking him. Persoanlly song too sappy for me. The others Mayer? Jeez he should be eliminated for bad wardrobe. Buble... I don't know he just isn't my thing at all. MJ... not a good one of his at all.

Anonymous said...

I can't believe he's wasted almost a year not performing WWFM like this more often.

Anonymous said...

If the Grammy Nomination is about Best Male Pop Vocals Performance, there is no doubt that the
man is Adam Lambert, is that what they
are really looking for, no need to look anymore, this is it, is very clear Adam's vocals are for this Grammy AWARD...

Anonymous said...

technically-technicall i prepare adma lambert voice-second michael buble.when u hear thier both voices; adam lambert so good/solid and sexy;
adam lambert also has an opraric sounds voice. wow he can sing anything -sexy as well. and sound like an angel omg; even today candain loves him-like his voice. the real one in this world.

Anonymous said...

I mean I suppose this is how Max Martin would like this song to be performed and if Adam won't, Pink will..

Anonymous said...

Why choose that particular performance, which I believe was his second tv appearance after the amas and was pre-recorded? Adam is being nominated for that song but mainly because of his vocal performances of that song since then. In fact, since that airing, he has sung WWFM acoustically (Iheartradio, AOL, various radio stations, etc.) and on stage (Glam Nation Tour) so incredibly well. Also, because it was pre-recorded, you are missing the immense love shown him by the audience and Ellen just before his interview and at the end of it.

Just for grins, a little info on the grammy nomination:

There are two voting rounds to this process for which only NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences) members participate.

"In both voting rounds, Academy members are to vote based upon quality alone. They are not supposed to be influenced by sales, chart performance, personal friendships, regional preferences or company loyalty. The acceptance of gifts is prohibited. Members are urged to vote in a manner that preserves the integrity of the academy."

IF this is how they vote, then Adam should win HANDS DOWN!

Anonymous said...

Let's keep everything into perspective, here. Adam Lambert is friggin nominated for a GRAMMY AWARD, one of 5 in the world in that category. THAT IS INCREDIBLE AND SHOULD BE CELEBRATED BY ALL :)! What happens with that nomination on February 13th remains to be seen, but until then, my heart is filled with joy for him, his family, friends and us, his fans.

Good company, but purely on vocals, it's hands down Adam! However, as we all know, it isn't pure vocals. It's politics. Don't understand MJ's role here, but this song just isn't that good and not his usual excellence. Mayer is pretty boy and popular, and this is a good song. Mayer's voice is distinctive but no Adam. Same with Buble. Bruno Mars is the main competition in my opinion as he's hot right now and absolutely can sing. So we'll see. Just excited that Adam is among these great ones, and we should consider that Adam is the competition to the rest of them, not the other way around :)

Anonymous said...

awesome post :) to me, its apples and oranges. They are all VERY different performers and their voices are of very different qualities (compared to one another). Personally I think WWFM is the most intense and demanding VOCALLY. As much as I love John Mayer, his style of singing is very laid back and he exhibits a limited vocal range. Nevertheless his tone is sexy as hell and his simplicity is both touching and brilliant. Michael Buble is a good singer but this song doesnt really showcase his voice imho. Bruno Mars, despite having put out one of the best songs of the year sounded off-pitch in that performance is several spots, but the studio version is quite good.
I too think it makes no sense to give the award to Michael. TIS isn't a bad song but I agree its not his best, besides giving the grammy won't benefit anyone. He will always be considered a legend and that's that.
I just really hopes Adam gets it. Had they put him in another category like best song or something then it would be debatable and more relative but in terms of VOCAL PERFORMANCE everyone knows he is in a league of his own. I would love to think the committee ppl did it on purpose with the intention of giving him the award but who knows.
The competition is tough. They are all VERY good and that in itself is huge recognition.
Things are looking up :)
Just sayin.

I am so happy for Adam's nomination. That being said, Buble is a crooner ala Sinatra, Mayer is a scumbag with few vocal skills, Bruno is cute as a button but off on this particular performance, MJ is now in that place where all pop stars go when they die. That leaves us with Adam Lambert who gave the best male pop vocal performance of the 5 nominated. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Anonymous said...

i'm thrilled adam is nominated. that's a win in itself! but think mars has the edge. he's had a string of top 10 songs all year.

Anonymous said...

anon 4:32 Thanks for the "shiggles" on the two voting rounds for the Grammys. I found the rules to be very interesting. However, with any voting process the voter is going to forget the rules and vote for their favorite. Singing, like beauty, is in the ear/eye of the beholder...way too subjective.

Having watched so many awards ceremonies in my life, I have found the integrity of the different acadamies unpreserved far too often. Therefore, am not holding my breath for a win this time for Adam Lambert. I am, however, heartened to see that a number of voters had the cojones to nominate him.

Anonymous said...

Adam has better vocals than all of them! MJ had his day, and a grammy shouldn't go to a deceased artist. Adam is by far the greatest male voice today!

Anonymous said...

Well, at least we can be thankful they didn't nominate Bieber is this category too. That little twit is totally over rated and in my opinion lacks vocal credibility, yet he keeps getting accolades and awards. He the Taylor Swift of the music world this year.

Anonymous said...

Bruno's gonna be tough ya'll.

Anonymous said...

Congratulations to Adam for his Grammy nomination. No one deserves this more than he does. He is vocal perfection and his music stirs your soul. I loved WWFM the first time I heard it and it is my favorite song of 2010. He is so talented and I am glad to see he got the recognition he so deserves for this song performance. Hopefully he will take home the award.

Anonymous said...

I think the only true competition here is Bruno Mars and maybe MJ, but Adam should win this one, because it is the best vocal performance hands down

Anonymous said...

@Anon7:16,I like how you said"little twit"made me laugh. You are so right that twit and Taylor Swift both have limited talent and lot of hype. I also don't like Brno's voice, sounds too high pitch and unpleasent at a times and I am so sick of his new song it is played all the time like it is some kind of wonderful or something. Taylor swift sounds so bland and boring, her voice have no texture or charm to it, I don't see whats the big deal about her either. I am done ranting now.....indigo.

Anonymous said...

Isn't the winner chosen based on the actual version taken from the album? I'm going back and listening to those from everyone to make a prediction and not these live performances from Ellen.

Anonymous said...

I have listened to all of these over and over and over. I tried to be as objective as possible. Putting aside Michael, Adam has it hands down. I hate to say it, but I suspect Michael will win as one more nod to his legacy. But I think Adam has more clarity of vocals, range and hits every note, compared to any of the others, including Michael. I enjoy listening to Buble, but he is a crooner, as someone said in an earlier post. Mayer. Well, I tried to get past that I just don't like the guy. His voice is not that great. I think Mars in a cutie, but he was off on a number of notes during his song and he doesn't seem to have much power behind any of his vocals. I really think Adam should get this award...and if Michael wasn't one of the nominees, I would say Adam would take it. This will go to Michael or Adam. There is no way any of the others should get this. I would really question the whole process if it turns out differently.

Anonymous said...

I am back after listening all the songs above, Buble is okay at best nothig special about his voice, pleasent yes but nothing extraordinary about his vocals,Bruno has good voice in lower regiser, but irritating in higher register(the song"when I see your face" is annoying when he sings in higher register,i couldn't even listen to the whole song( feel like I am being tortured)MJ was great in his days and in this song doesn't sound anything special,he sounds tired and disconnected, it isn't touching my heart, song has no soul to it,feels empty. sorry MJ,but that is my honest opinion...........indigo.

Anonymous said...

Adam on ellen show sounds and looks beatiful, He connects to the lyrics.soulful and magical, he touches my soul and uplifts my spirit every time I hear him sing, what a talent, what a gift, he has crafted his skills beautifully and delivers with so much emmotions.............indigo.

Anonymous said...

I too believe that MJ will win and I'm fine with it. Anon 8:54 YES! I don't know how many still don't understand that Adam is nominated for the original album and single version of WWFM not the acoustic version. And he doesn't even perform the original version anymore!

I like his songs cuz they are such *chick songs*‼ :) I wish & hope so much that Adam will win the Grammy Award... fingers crossed. :);)

Anonymous said...

After listening to all of them. I think his competition is Bruno Mars. MJ is gone and He has already had his post mortem awards. But I'm not bias (LOL) Adam is the best! Good luck Adam

Anonymous said...

I've listened to all the live performances above carefully, (although I know the nomination is for the vocal performance from the original album not live performance) but without a doubt, Adam should win hands down, no contest! His talent is so far above all the others (only MJ is real competition if he were still alive but unfortunately he is not) so I'm continuing to think positive about Adam winning the award. Even if he does not, the recognition, finally, from his music industry peers is a win for Adam in itself and we know Adam feels honored to have been nominated.

Comments about the other 3 singers, well Buble is sort of boring to me and so is John Mayer. Their voices are okay but not powerful or close to the range of Adam's. Bruno Mars is a talented song-writer, singer, no doubt. He is really hot right now. He's making so many T.V. appearances on a lot of major shows. So he is getting so much national exposure. His song is one of the best this year in my opinion. Sweet voice but not much power behind it. Adam outsings them all and deserves to win the Grammy.

Just finished listening to all the songs and i'd like to be objective as much as possible. Since the category is BEST MALE POP VOCAL PERFORMANCE, then there is no doubt in my mind that Adam should win. The songs of the 4 other artists simply failed to showcase their vocal abilities while WWFM shows off Adam's rare gift which is his impeccable voice that puts him in a league of his own. I just hope that this supposedly legitimate award giving body will strictly adhere to their criteria so that the winner shall be the most deserving. Hoping and praying that they will not allow popularity and politics to get in the way, JMHO.

It is such an honor to be amongst these super talented nominees-and in Adam's case he is MULTI-Talented and Michael Jackson is a LEGEND! ALL of MY HEART wants Adam to take this one home-MJ may be gone physically, but spiritually his vocal presence lives. He is very deserving here in this category and biggest competitor for Adam.

Anonymous said...

Is Michael Jackson always destined to be nominated and win when Awards are handed out? I like a couple of his songs but not a huge fan of his. Let him compete with other singers who are no longer with us instead of artists who are living.

Michael Buble – I really like 'Haven’t Met You Yet' but I’m not into swing.

Definitely not a fan of the other two.

What this Award is supposed to be all about is male VOCAL performance, and Adam should win by truckloads if the Award is given correctly.

Anonymous said...

My opinion is based on how I am moved by each of these singers. Except for Adam, I have never really listened to the others so I will exclude Adam and commnt on them:
Michael Buble - he sounded like one trying to sound ike Frank Sinatra. But he isn't as what - relaxed - as the latter. Methinks he was trying too hard.
John Mayer - he reminded me of the winner of AI to whom Adam lost. So its this guy's style that he was going for. Well, to be fair, the AI winner sounds better than this guy!
Bruno Mars - well well well so this is Bruno Mars. I had heard about his Las Vegas incident before. This is my first time to listen to him and its his performance in Ellen's show. It looks to me that the song carried the singer than vice-versa. The song is pleasant to listen to but his voice is just so so to me.

Anonymous said...

To be fair, all of them are good in their own right and make great music, but if the award is truly for the "best vocal performance" then the choice is clear. Adam Lambert is miles ahead of the rest of them including MJ, no apologies. None of them has the vocal range, charisma, passion, consistency, quality & diction as Adam, not even close. Adam is an all round performer, he commands the stage and needs none of the studio edits and embellishments to make him sound good. His live performance is nothing short of phenomenal, and has always been from way back when he was doing theatre. His acoustic sets are the ultimate litmus test, as they can be very unforgiving if one does not have the vocal talent to begin with, and this is where Adam best showcases his vocal prowess. If he does not win this award, it would be obvious that there is something seriously wrong with the balloting/judging process.

Anonymous said...

The whole MJ thing is disturbing to me. I don't think he should be in the running any longer imo and I'd have thought that whether Adam was nominated or not.

Adam got the nomination which is a biggie. He'll get other nominations along the way. I'm sure he is at peace with how this all turns out. He has his foot in the door now and he will walk through effortlessly from here on in.

It's just me, but I don't believe he has a vocal peer in the biz.

Anonymous said...

To stay in the business Adam needs to listen to the producers too or he will have to start producing his own music.

Anonymous said...

Not to change the subject but went out to E-Bay website and saw a Adam Lambert Doll, inspired by Adam Lambert 2010 Glamnation tour. It looks like there are 22 bids out there so far. He is all glamed up. 12" Oh so cute. $122.50 price is listed. You have to go check it out. Good Christmas gift, or for anyone that collects Adam Lambert stuff.

glitzylady said...

Well....I am certainly hoping Adam wins (duh... : ) of course I hope that!) ...for one thing, he was nominated, which is something that even though we know he so deserves it for every song he as ever sung (IMHO), was a bit of a surprise, truth be told, at least to me..I thought we would have to wait until next year..and I am not at all being negative, just sort of used to the things that have happened in the past year. And then...VOILA!!!!!!!!! Adam is honored by the music industry by those who know and appreciate true talent...finally! So it is certainly possible that we could see Adam win this award, if it is based on his vocal skills and performance, and not just based on popularity or to honor MJ one last time. I do like Bruno Mars, and now that I listen to music again : ) ...and listen to Top 40 radio..I do hear Bruno Mars about every 3rd song it seems..Very sweet and catchy song..and his voice is fine, but nothing compared to Adam..Michael Buble is a also talented but not my cup of tea generally, although that has nothing to do with this award...John Mayer..well, he's okay but not at Adam's level of vocal virtuosity IMHO..

So the bottom line is...If it is based solely on Vocal Performance, Adam will always get MY vote, but I am also somewhat biased..And I, like some others, truly hope it doesn't go to the late great Michael Jackson for purely nostalgic and honorary reasons, but if it does, so be it..He is already revered as one of the "Greats" in music..I hope they will give it to the "new guy"..because he really does give a great vocal performance in this song and is well on his way to becoming another of the "Greats"..based on his voice alone, and this award is celebrating that particular quality, the vocal performance, of which Adam is the master. If he wins, it will be so fabulous for him, and I do think it could happen....he got the nomination, so why not the Win!!!!! And then I can stop having to explain to people #1 who he is and #2 why I think he is so fabulous . "Grammy Nominee/Winner Adam Lambert" explains it all..

Anonymous said...

Best Male Pop VOCAL performance. There is no question Adam should win. It's all about the voice and expression.
The other songs are too sappy and they are just o.k. singers.
The academy voters are all singers and musicians and can surprise you at times.
Adam could win this.
Go Adam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Adam's own label Sony are the ones who are fault for milking the "MJ Gravy Train". They put forth Mj's song for nomination to keep his name out there so they can keep milking every last drop out of his memory by releasing substandard material that Michael would have be ashamed of. Very sad.

Based on talent Adam should be the winner, but ONLY in chess the best talent wins! There are so many factors that could influence the voters towards the others, but it might be Time for Miracles!

I just read in a post that Bruno Mars remember someone i thnk it could be Michael Jackson in his early age the style of his singing is not unique it is like a bad copy for me, a real artist with a huge range and great VOCALS is only the unique and talented Adam Lambert, I hope the academy members award him for that, thanks god it is not a popularity show.

Anonymous said...

i have listened to all the songs and i think Michael Jackson should win....

Adam Lambert.

I feel that he really deserves this award. Adam has a voice that cannot be compared. As much as MJ is a great singer, his time is gone...It's time for a new performer to take the award.

Buble: As much as I love him...not his strongest song. Work to work to work it out. That's a lot of working.

Mars: Okay, he's popular nowadays. I don't really care for him, but listening to him sing, I sadly think he is a contender.

However, at the end of the day, I realize that right now, it is ultimately a match between Michael Jackson and Adam Lambert.

I am crossing my fingers for Adam. I am not going to watch the Grammys though. If I do, I would get way too passionate. If Adam loses, I might actually hurt somebody. Not really. But still. That's how angry I would be.

I am wicked excited for Adam and his family. :) He deserves everything he can get!

Your Glamily loves you, Adam! <3
