Episode Quotes

"I think I'm a result of all the things I love about music. I love rock and roll. I love that bombastic approach to vocals and sexuality. And I love the production style of electronic music. I love all that. I like artists that take risks and that don't want to blend in. That's the kind of person that I am and that's the kind of artist that I am." — Adam Lambert, on his career

"I think when I was in about sixth grade, that's when I first realized that I was probably not the same as the other boys. And, you know, it was a weird discovery and of course, I was kind of in denial for a while and it was all in my own head. And to me it was a deep secret. I was just not ready to talk about it with anybody. And I didn't know how my parent's would react and I didn't know what that would be like and I think at that age it was something that I was ashamed of, because it was so different. And [it] wasn't the norm and not encouraged and no one talks about that in school and that's one of the things that's so hard about being a young person and realizing that you're gay, or bi, or whatever. We're not told that that's okay." — Adam Lambert, on realizing he was different

"I was awkward and struggling to find out who I was and where I fit. I didn't know anybody else that was gay. So I was playing along, and that's one of the things that is really tough, is that you kind of create this persona in order to be accepted, and that persona is 'I'm just like everybody else, so, I'm gonna ask the girl to the dance… And I'm going to wear the clothes all the other boys are wearing, and this way no one will make fun of me, and this way, I'll be accepted.'" — Adam Lambert, his insecurities in high school

"I thought this is a golden opportunity for me to say something to him. And I said, 'You know, you can tell me anything. Do you want to have a girlfriend?' And he said, no, not really. And I said, 'Do you want to have a boyfriend?' And he goes, 'Well, I don't know, maybe.' And so at that moment, that was the first time he ever really said that." — Leila Lambert, Adam's mom, on Adam's coming out

Besides his music and the beautiful person he is inside and out, I think Adam was put on this planet as a gift to all the young people who feel different. Adam's innner strength and courage offers hope for so many. I don't think he even realizes how many terrified young people are being touched in a positive way by his example each and every day.

I simply love Adam Lambert.

Yes, I believe he was "meant" to try out for Idol and become a household name.

I love Adam Lambert, but I'm so tired of hearing about his story in realizing he was gay. While I appreciate how difficult this must have been for him, surely it's time to move on now and concentrate on his music and his future success.

Adam isn't the only person who has gone through difficulties, certainly he is inspiring but there are so many people who suffer for all sorts of reasons, that's life, I think he needs to get over it and in moving forward realize just how very lucky he is to have the talents and gifts he has, there are so many who are not so fortunate.

I love that Adam is telling about his feelings as a child realizing that he was gay. It is so important for the gay youth going through the same thing right now to have someone actually speaking the words to realize they are not alone. What other celebrity has been open enough to share those feelings? It will help so many young people struggling to understand to have a successful recording artist like Adam to look up to. Once again, Adam is breaking down barriers. He has a gifted voice and a caring and loving personality. Has anyone ever stopped to think how many hugs this man has given out all over the world? He is our good will ambassador. Cannot wait to see this on VH1 and I am extremely excited to hear the next cd.

Everything is timed for the right reasons and RCA know exactly what their doing here for sure.
Seemed geared especially for the US.

OT but I find this interesting. Westboro Babtist Church has called Tommy a Devil Child. Tommy tweeted it. Did any of the Adommies react to that? Usually they defend Tommy like crazy and it's ok, but I'm not really surprised if they won't react to this one..

I hope people stop reacting to anything Westboro Baptist Church says...if they have no audience maybe they'll go away and sink back into the hypocritical, judgemental swamp of misery they crawled out of...maybe...I hope............JAK

@JAK

I'll hope right along with ya on that one!

I checked the website of WBC and they seem like something Breivik could have mentioned in his manifesto.

They don't just hand Adam a mic and say "talk about anything you want", they ask him questions, the same damn ones over and over. I think he'd be happy to get over it and talk about his music.

I'm not very enthusiastic about this interview. So many times reheated.

I think he would love to get past the gay questions and only talk music, but "they" won't let him. You would think it would be old news to them now too.

Already saw some pictures that I had not seen before in the sneak peeks, so really looking forward to it!

From what I have heard and read so far, not much that is new about Adam and his life, career, and difficulties. But that could be that Adam has told us so much already about himself and his life experiences. He really hasn't held too much back. I, too, would like to hear more about the writing process of his new album, collabs and plans for the future. But this is a good opportunity for those who haven't heard or read too much about Adam lately to realize how much he has done since AI and that there is a second album to be released this fall. Those of us on this blog obviously know all the latest, but others have no idea what has been happening lately in his career. I just want to see Adam again no matter what he has to say.

Addressing the concerns about including the "gay" coming-out stories, etc., and why its important that they be included, because Adam's story here is not just about the music, its about the man behind it: "Behind The Music."

Adam's story includes his struggle and eventual "feeling comfortable in his own skin" and is an integral part of his life story to date. It would make no sense to leave that out. He is now and will be in the future, an inspiration to others who are in similar circumstances in their own lives.

I'm sure there will be plenty of content about his music as well. To leave any part of his life out would not be doing justice to Adam and his eventual acceptance of, and pride in, who he is. His journey to become the amazing, talented and loved-by-millions man he is today must be told in its entirety to fully understand this beautiful human being. He is a courageous and passionate man whose whole story needs to be told, not swept under the carpet. I am very excited to see it and very proud of Adam for sharing it.

My thanks to VH1 for including Adam in this series. It's an honor, I think, for someone so relatively new to the music industry to be showcased this way.

This is what concerns me. We, his fans, will watch the program, recording devices at hand. Some people who are curious will watch, but the people who need to watch won't. I doubt they watch VH I. Parents who suspect their children may be dealing with gender issues won't, they'd rather stay in denial. Children who need to be assured that they are normal, whether they have sexual orientation questions or not probably won't even know it is on. I wish the program was going to be on NBC, advertised and promoted by the network.

If just one human being is inspired or comforted by Adam's life and earlier insecurities, then having it told again will be worth it and matter. We all have heard the story many times over and probably feel we know Adam more intimately than some of our own family members. We're looking for something new, but Adam has so long been an honest, open book, I don't think there are any more surprises. I would love to see a video of every performance he has ever done from childhood on. Sadly not all of them exist, due to theatre copy rights, but still would love to see them. I'm looking forward to Sunday!!funbunn40
