In honor of the legend's brithday, here is Adam Lambert talking about Freddie Mercury during an interview with NPR (8/30/10)

And who can ever forget this amazing performance of "We Are the champions"?

Is there a studio version of Adam singing We Are The Champions? I thought this was flamboyant, but lacks feeling. Gonna be honest and say I like Robbie Williams' cover version of this song better, so far.

Listening to Freddie's voice on the first video, one can almost think it's Adam. Their voices are so similar -- and spectacular! In the Idol performance of "We Are The Champions", Adam's voice just soars - like Freddie's - and Brian May seems so impressed. Don't hate on me, Kris fans, but Adam's voice soooo outsings Kris' with his power and skill. Love that Queen performance by Adam! LL

This video is reversed. How does that happen? Adam is actually on the left side and Kris on the right.

I was an Adam Lambert fan from the first note he sang on the season 8 AI audition. And this amazing performance before the announcement of the winner, for me was one of the best moments of the show. I like Kris Allen, but there is no comparison between him and Adam singing this song. Adam just outperforms him and was so in his element. It was great to watch this performance once again and realize what an impressive vocal Adam Lambert is.

I still think Adam got very little critique on Idols, because he can sing so well..

I noticed that too - that the video was reversed. Weird. If you look, the American Idol logo is also backward. Still a great performance by Adam tho!

YAY! They began and ended the interview with my very very most favorite of all Freddie's songs
.......which I frequently give the link to....
it's just such a joyous song "Don't Stop Me Now"!
Freddie sings it perfectly, but I'd love for Adam to sing it as an encore at his concerts on his next tour! He's the only one who could sing it with swagger!....I'm sorry Freddie is not around to hear Adam, I think it would be a mutual admiration society!................JAK

I'm surprised that Adam wasn't offered the part to play Freddie's life on film, which was given to Borat. He may look more physically look like him, but doesn't have Adam's talent and connection to the audience and singing ability. Maybe Adam was just too good looking and charasmatic, but he has the acting and vocal ability to do Freddie justice. Nice, informative interview. Adam, excellent and perceptive as always. funbunn40

Oops, please excuse typo above. funbunn40

@funnbunn- who is borat?? I'm missing this one, there is a movie about FM- OMG Adam has to play that!!! Why is everyone so scared of adam and his talent?? If this new album doesn't wake america up, I don't think I can take the stress anymore lol

Anonymous said...

Can I just say, my favorite but of that song is the part kris allen sang, which I thought he did great! ( I just like that melody part of the song) and then BB sang and Wow!!! Adam could of sang both parts and blown us even more away for sure! Whats KA doing now bTW. Keeping an eye on haley- that's all and OT: Love love kelly clarkson- new single out, sorry not feelin it!But has gone to # 1 on i'tunes. She's another amazing talent I absolutely LOVE!

Anonymous said...

2:37, I agree and Kris gives way to Adam. Sort of like Adam was already the winner.

Anonymous said...

@anon 2:29PM I think funnbunn meant the actor who played some idiot in movie "Borat, Borat"
His name is Sasha Baron and he will play Freddie Mercury in Freddie's bio movie.
I don't think Adam neither this idiot Baron can play FM. Freddie was 5'11" and very skinny in this particular part of his life which they make movie about.
Few years ago they wanted J Depp play Freddie in this movie.
I think it was the great idea. But after all Baron is playing Freddie now.

HAL
Kris didn't have to sing this song at all. May be he won AI but he is not the CHAMPION of THE WORLD:)

It seemed the whole end of Idol that year was geared to Adam..."the winner" but we know AT&T f--ked that up...O well...look where Adam is now...BTY..where is our ADAM?

@GGD Gal Are you here? I bet you've seen these already. Nevertheless, regarding Freddie, here it is:

(check the users' channels to see the rest of the videos)

Freddie (Freddie's and Queen's music that is) does a lot to my mind&soul. As far as I'm concerned, Mr.A has (still) much to prove. At best, he might be a Freddie from before Bohemian Rhapsody (without the support of an exquisite band). I'm talking now about musical genius not a heart/blood racing effect of a great voice and mesmerizing eyes... Not even about the stage presence, which is great btw. Different times, different lives, different musical styles, different artistic paths, I guess. Anyway, one of them has enough time to develop a great musical career, be it pop-filled or not. I'm an enthusiastic supporter of eclecticism and a lover of partially opened flowers. :-)

Idol will never top that!!!!!

I don't think Adam is ready at this time in his career to take on a movie role esp. that of Freddie Mercury. He has to focus on his music career, that second album with its first single. All his attention and time has to be spent on appealing to as wide a range of people as he can get in order to achieve the fame and success that he so deserves. This means interviews, tv appearances, talk shows, etc. and with the new management team behind him hopefully more radio play. Then there will be the preparation for the next tour. I don't see how he could possibly fit in the time to do a movie now. To me, Adam is the best vocal talent in the music business today and it's about time that the listening audience out there realizes this by asking for more radio play of his songs and buying his new album when it is released this fall. I think we are going to see a new Adam Lambert: more mature, more introspective in his songs and more casual in his style. Gone are the glitz, glitter and glam persona that we so loved for the first album. And I cannot wait to see where he takes us next.

Season 8 of AI to me was the best one because of Adam Lambert. He was in a league of his own from the first note he sang during the audition. Many of us realized something special was happening each week he performed and I couldn't wait to see what song it would be and what his style of clothing and hair he would take. Singing WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS was a special moment in tv music history and I don't think it will be repeated again.

Didn't know before that Freddie had a long term relationship with a woman, Mary Austin. Is it her on the video Crazy Little Thing Called Love?

Goosebumps all over again! Bring on November!

Anonymous said...

OMG Goosebumps when Adam started singing. Poor Kris, his voice just can not compare to the power and emotion of Adam.Adam sang it like a champion. Brian May really did look impressed and Freddie would be too if he were still living. Adam looked up to Freddie and his unbelievable talent. Now we have gotten another amazing talent in Adam!!!

Actually you can find all of Adam's Idol performances reversed on You Tube. The first time I came upon one I thought it was my eyes, then I thought it was my brain! It's a goof no one bothered to correct. It's a little disconcerting when he walks left instead of right and when Simon is sitting where Randy sat!!! But fortunately Adam sounds great as usual!.....JAK

The British actor who has signed to play Freddie Mercury is Sacha Baron Cohen. He's sort of a strange guy!

Adamluv said...

Anon 4:43 - so agree with what you said about Idol never being able to top that moment. I couldnt believe I was seeing/hearing my AI Adam Lambert singing that great song with QUEEN!!!! Life doesnt get any better than that IMHO! ... Adamluv

Hey Adamluv, i just dropped by to check things out. Ditto on Adam's rendition of WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS! I used to watch that every night before going to bed then it became every week after a year. Sadly i couldn't do it now, rl makes it hard for me these past few months. I was never into QUEEN though i appreciate their music but Adam turned me into a Freddie Mercury fan, agree with those who said that Freddie is indeed a legendary musical genius. But i adore Adam Mitchel Lambert and he is the love of my life LOL!

Anyway, i'm so glad you saw my birthday greetings to you Adamluv. I miss all of you guys. How i wish i could visit more but things are tough lately and i only manage to peak once in a while for my adam fix. Have a blast with the CANYONS Adamluv and kind regards! Gotta go :(

Love thru Adam,
Bing

All you have to do is listen to this video as evidence of who the real winner was in Season 8. Kris sounds amateurish. Adam sounds like a professional. That's just how screwed up AI is, and it continues to be so season after season.

Anonymous said...

Heard a very long time ago that Idol was going to delete all season 8 on youtube. Someone beat them to the punch by switching them. Idol could remove "their" videos, but not the switched ones. Remember TSTMNBP? Suz flipped that one too so it couldn't be deleted by anyone.

Rita said...

I wish Kris hadn't joined Adam onstage for "We are the Champions" as I know Adam held back in order not to show up Kris. Would love to hear Adam sing it by himself. YT will not remove the YT videos that are reversed as somehow they do not qualify as "copyright infringement".

Anonymous said...

I think Adam should have done a Queen medley on the Finale. I would love to hear him sing "Fat Bottom Girls." next tour maybe;)

Anonymous said...

I would think that Adam wants to do his own songs, his own kind of music and not necessarily always have the Freddy Mercury and Queen references. He is his own person, very talented and surely flattered by those comparisons and suggestions. But I admire Adam for the power of his voice and his spectacular musical artistry. He can stand on his own anywhere with that impressive vocal talent and his spectacular stage presence. Kris Allen may have won AI that season, but Adam Lambert is the true star and will find ultimate success with the release of his second album.

Nostalgic and this was the last glorious happy moment to cherish as far as Adam on Season 8 was concerned. Why...because we had no clue what was about to unfold, the worst that could be. And so I cherish this last moment of Adam on Idol deeply. Thank goodness the horrible result feeling seems to be fading and everything is going along quite well to Adam's advantage. Adam's voice sounded really strong, a true champion at the S8 finale and he looked sooooo handsome, vibrant, youngish, not as sophisticated as now. Long live maestro Adam!

We Are The Champions - WOAH! This version gives me goosebumps on goosebumps. :D

Kris has a sweet voice and it complemented Adam's voice beautifully but the song belonged to Adam. :-)

YO! The roar of the audience when Adam starts to sing!! <3

Radio Ga Ga is my favorite Queen song. I read that's where Lady Gaga took her name from.

Sacha Baron Cohen would fit the physical type of Freddie Mercury i.e. his face.

@Lam my
I wasn't shocked that Adam didn't win (upset, yes), but I told my husband at top13 that Kris would win. He just fit the Idol mould better, ther clean cut, christian guy, who plays guitar and wears checked shirts. If I'm honest I'm surprised that Adam made top 2. Not that he didn't deserve to win on talent, obviously he did......and on looks, charisma, stage presence, sex appeal, dress sense and anything else you can think of!

I think Sacha Baron Cohen will make a great Freddie Mercury looks wise, but they should definitely use Adams voice!

and lastly, how on earth do you reverse a video??

Anonymous said...

@HK fan
Looks like you read the ground better, maybe due to your constant travelling and mingling with people; who go for a certain perceived 'good person' image and forego true-grit talent that took more tan 10 years to nurture and mature...sigh.

I get so emotional when I see the old videos and this performance with Queen...well, Adam was BORN to sing it. I would LOVE Adam to do a cover on his cd with Queen. Maybe the last song on the bonus cd. He is the champion of every single person who has been downtrodden whether they are gay or straight. He is the example of not letting the bullies win. Love him. Rock on Adam!

It seems that the last several winners of AI may have won that season, but their careers did not necessarily take off and propel them into stardom. Maybe it was better that Adam did not win. I believe he was truly happpy for Kris Allen when his named was announced that night. All Adam wanted was a platform to perform and to get noticed and he certainly did that. He got his "foot in the door" so to speak and then the rest was up to him. He has had a number of things to contend with during the time since his AI appearances and seems to have handled most of them quite well. There were some missteps along the way, but you learn from those experiences. Adam seems to have become an international star with his GNT; now he needs to appeal to a wider fan base in this country. Perhaps with this new album, a new management team, more radio play and tv appearances, he will find the fame and success that seem to have eluded him so far. Looking back, Adam has been a CHAMPION in the eyes of all his devoted fans since his first appearance on AI.

Kris Allen is a mediocre singer and musician at best. If his second album doesn't take off, I doubt very much if he will have a contract. Allison Iraheta got dumped in the midst of the Glamnation Tour. It's all about sales.

Anonymous said...

How come everybody started to talk about Adam, Kris, Allson on Freddie's 65th birthday?
I don't care about Kris or Allison success and contracts.

For those of you who have been wondering ... check out ADAM's twitter ... seems like someone just got back from Burning Man ... and from the sound of the tweet ... had himself quite a time! So that's where our 'outlaw of love' has been ... gotta love that Lambert!

I agree that ADAM would have made a great choice for Freddie Murcury pic ... why not just use ADAM for the VOCALS ... that would work PERfectly ... IMO .. Love 'n Light

tess4ADAM .. Happy B'day Freddie .. RIP

I realize how much I missed Freddie! I really hope Adam will be successful as Freddie. By the way I find KRADAM is still the best match and the cutest!! Long live the KRADAM!

@GLb Sep 5, 4:28 PM - Love to read your posts, Lover of Partially Opened Flowers!

Sorry, it has taken this long to THANK YOU for the links re Freddie M, Queen and their music! Their music and those times bring back so many memories, emotional and joyous moments, e.g. one night with friends in Brighton, on the beach, ”hilariously drunk & disorderly”, inspired of course by Brighton Rock, hah-ha! Also forever in awww by Brian May’s guitar!!!
Have not been able to watch all the vids yet, but will definitely do so during next weekend when I have more time to sit at my computer, truly a BIG thank you!

Read also your post in the ”Fan Montage: Adam Lambert - I Wanna Do Bad Things (True Blood)” thread, where you wrote that this place is of lesser interest to you when the familiar tags are missing… DITTO!

Nowadays my life seems to be a regular battle with unregular hours (working in ungodly hours, sleeping patterns shot to hell etc) - but luckily 24/7 Paradise is open all hours… :)

@ HAL, Thanks for jogging my memory re: Borat and Sacha Baron Cohen. I could picture him, but could not bring up his name. I agree, he looks more like Freddie, but Adam would do a magnificent job on the sound track. I also agree with Rita that Adam singing We Are the Champions alone would have really done Freddie justice and Adam, ever the consumate pro, holds back when he is singing with someone with less vocal range and power. He easily could have overshadowed and blown Kris away. I think Brian May also recognized Adam's talent and demeanor. Kris has a very pleasing voice but just isn't in Adam's league. I really can't think of anyone as diversified and technically superior to Adam. He truly is a unique phenomenom like no other. .. @ Bing, I'm always happy to see you on this site and hope real life will ease when Adam starts touring and new CD comes out. Even if there's little time for you to comment, just know that you're a cherished poster on this site, always kind with beautiful things to say. Happy Birthday, Freddie! You were a true champion of the world! Bohemian Rhapsody will always be my favorite and was a great gift for Adam, cinching his Idol audition. It made me sit up and take notice! funbunn40

@Bing!!! So good to hear from you! I know what you mean by RL getting in the way! I try to read as many posts as possible but sometimes there just isn't enought time in the day.

@GGD Gal, I know what you mean by sleeping patterns shot to hell, but I am trying to correct that as these last 2 1/2 years have been a mess thanks to this site!

I will NEVER forget when Adam followed Kris' lead singing We Are the Champions and the look on Brian May's face said it all. My jaw dropped so far to the floor, it took some time to pick it back up. Adam's voice was so powerful, and perfect. I still watch that video every once in awhile because it just amazed me. It is apparent to me that AI thought they better put Kris on to sing first because they knew Adam would overpower him and blow him out of the water vocally. That is exactly what happened. There is no toning down Adam when Queen was WITH him on stage. I don't think he held back at all.
