So much new "gay discussion" started with Adam and AI. He brought issues to the forefront. I think his influence on the LGBT movement will be significant when we look back on these years. He's making a difference, not so much by making big speeches or carrying signs. He's doing it by being who he is, openly and naturally. We've seen many changes since 2009.
Adam and Sauli are SO wonderful together. Both in love and not afraid to show it.

What these pictures reveal are two nice good looking intelligent young men in love and breaking down barriers. They aren't flaunting it they are simply saying we love each other and it makes us both happy. Btw I agree with above assessments Adam has opened many doors and eyes. The Dark Sude

Actually the modern gay rights movement started with the Stonewall riots in 1969, before Adam was even born. Adam certainly is part of history with the first number one album by an out gay person and his visibility will help many people. But Adam didn't start this. Please don't disrepect the people who have fought long and hard.

I adore Adam and Sauli but I think these photos are an invasion of their privacy, even though they kissed in public places. However, if they want the world to see photos of them kissing, so be it.

Yes a touch on the privacy line but apart from that you have to give these guys all the respect in the world. If only everyone had the special magic they share.

Adam and Leila spoke about his coming out on 20/20. I am not sure, but I don't think you can find anything like that revelation before that time, with a major personality. Remember that Adam was one of Barbara Walter's most interesting people that year. He is a trailblazer and a connector...oh, and a rock god.

How about Ellen Degeneres coming out on her tv show in 1997, Neil Patrick Harris and Lance Bass on the cover of People in 2006. Rosie O'Donnell came out in 2002, Melissa Etheridge in 1993, Nathan Lane in 1999, George Takei in 2005. They have all spoken publically, given interviews and many have walked the red carpet with partners.

Yes, Adam has an important role but he couldn't be out without the people who were brave enough to come out before him. Adam didn't start this. He's adding to it but it didn't start with him.

Adam is the first person who has made me personally begin to change my views about homosexuality. All the above mentioned people are great but I personally did not jump on the supportive bandwagon until Adam came along. So to me Adam is responsible for atleast my personal change and acceptance and now I spread it forward at any opportunity. Adam is my reason for changing my views. If someone can't accept that , it's okay, it doesn't change my truth....LB

The movement for LGBTQ rights is at different stages in different countries. In some countries it is still a crime, in some cases punishable by death.

Saying that it started with Stonewall could also be construed as insensitive to the plight of LGBTQ people in other countries, not to mention a trivialization of the real dangers they face.

Every action, Stonewall included, is a small step and every step is something to be celebrated and proud of.

A revolution is gradual and has many players.

The tipping point in any movement occurs when the mainstream decides to buy in. In that sense that both Adam and Chris Colfer played an important role in the US.

During Idol8, Adam reached out and grabbed the hearts of a huge cross-section of middle-class America through Idol and attuned a lot of formerly ambivalent and or uninterested people in the importance of LGBTQ equality.

In GLEE, through the character of Kurt, Chris Colfer did the same.

Together, in a short frame of time, they change the popular face of gay quite a bit: younger, more sympathetic, less apologetic, less fearful. More accessible and more attractive, they helped to counter-balance the negative sterotypes.

Not rocket science to see that they have played a role. Did they start it? No. They made a difference, though.

I haven't read through whole thread so perhaps this is already posted... but on GMA this morning they talked about Sam Champion's Wedding tonight to his parter... showed a lovely pic of them, the panel spoke very briefly but very lovingingly about it. I know Sam announced his engagment on air as well. (side note: of course, Sam is very, how shall I say it, "safe", like a Neil Patrick Harris, and that is why I absolutely admire not only Adam (much more left of center than Sam Champion) but also anyone who dares to show what a great, decent guy Adam is!

Just my opinion but Adam did start the coming out thing. He was brave enough to come out at the beginning of his career! It could have been all over for him after Idol. Also, remember Adam was out during his musical theater career which was also very difficult for him as he was seen as too gay and the suits wanted him to "hide it" as in no eye make-up, etc.......nancdruuu2

I find this obsession with 2 people kissing is strange.

For me, the gay issue never crossed my mind as I watched Adam perform on IDOL. I just focused on his vocal talent and his amazing stage presence, not his sexual orientation. The RS issue and interview discussed a lot about Adam and his life, but it was not shocking to me. Adam did not start the revolution about gay acceptance, but he certainly has played an important role in it esp. for the younger generation. It's true that SAm Champion, NPH, Anderson Cooper are "safe" and personable for the average American audience. Because Adam is in the music business, enjoys a party and a drink or two and openly displays his affection for Sauli, he may turn off some of the viewing and listening public. They seem to have a loving relationshp and that's all that should matter. Yes, some of these pictures may be invasive, but there is nothing wrong in their love for each other. Times are changing,but there is still a long way to go for full acceptance esp. for gay marriage.

Personal stuff...back to news about his music!!! Like the fact that Queen + Adam Lambert were just voted best live shows in 2012. Adam, remember that rock side on your next album.

LB, I'm with you. I know other well-known gay people have come out. But Adam was the first one to touch me so deeply. He came out at the beginning of a budding career, not after he was already established. Big risk, and he is still paying the price for his guts. I have always been a liberal thinker and am not the least bit homophobic, but Adam has made me much more aware of LGBT issues, than any other gay celeb ever has.

6:21, YES! Many of the gay celebs who have come out are indeed the "safe" ones, who never or very rarely show their sexuality in public. Adam is different. He cannot hide his sexuality in public. To do so would be untruthful for him. Adam once said that the only thing that gay people have in common is that they're gay. The rest is as individual as any other group of people. His look and manner and action are not the "safeness" of NPH or many others. I love Adam just the way he is. He generaates discussion, positive and negative, just being a VERY openly gay man.
He can't be otherwise.

As for the kissing, I love it for its sexiness, two attractive men showing physical affection in public. It's also a kind of symbolic thing that I admire. When they kiss in front of people, they expect people to see it, photos or no photos. The more we see this sort of thing in gay couples, the less it will be shocking or unacceptable. It's a long, slow road.

I think it's tacky to attack someone who does something positive to honor and remember the victims of the terrible tragedy in Connecticut. I suspect that if our man Adam had done the same thing (dedicate a single to their memories) you wouldn't have said that about HIM. In fact Adam has done something similar in the past with his acoustic Aftermath release. Proceeds from that went toward anti-bullying too. Keep it classy please. Adam does. He has nothing but positive things to say about Kris. No room for hate here. Please. Personally, I say good for Kris.

Well glitzylady I disagree with you. I would die of embarrassment as a fan of Adam if he tried to do anything like this right after a tragedy.

It's one thing to honestly support a cause and another to jump on a bandwagen hoping to personally profit. You didn't see Kris donate money from his single towards the Trevor project (like Adam did).

Then we agree to disagree. I find it interesting that you would assume that Kris's motivation is profit. Perhaps he felt like the rest of us, that we wish we could do something to in some very very small way to honor the victims memories. I don't see it as being selfish or devious of him at all. But then that's just me. And lets be very clear: I'm not trying to promote Kris here. I don't own any of his music. Adam is the focus of my fangirl efforts. But I respect Kris as an artist. So whatever. I just prefer to see the good in each of us..If I see something to change my mind about Kris, then I'll say so..I also suspect we'll see a lot more of this in the coming days. Celebrities have hearts too.

Peace, love and light to the innocent victims and their loved ones. Anything to honor and remember them in a positive way is fine with me.

ADAM is a pioneer in the sense he dared tell the whole world bravely he is gay when his music career has not even started.
Now wo else has done that???
The others who came out are not in the career of having to sell something as the barometer of their success.
So it was all a dangerous and courageous move.
And for that, he started something that has NOT been done before.
And that is the big mark ADAM has made in the LGBT struggle.
Made all the difference in the world, in the world of music.
And in my world, he is the only one whose coming out mattered, made a big difference in how I see and realize the struggle of the LGBT community.
And I thank ADAM for opening my eyes.

glitzylady, I agree with you. I've seen a lot of celebrities and entertainers speak out and sing out in dedication and support of the Sandy Hook victims.

Also, xyz @ 1:54,I'm glad that Adam's coming out matters to you, but you should at least appreciate other celebrities that came out before Adam. Maybe they didn't come out at the beginning of their careers like Adam did. Maybe they felt that they couldn't at the time. But their bravery to come out "later" or "at all", maybe have given Adam the courage to come out at the start of his career. Each footprint forward makes the path a little clearer for those that follow.

RE: Sandy Hook victims. The best memorial for those precious children and the teachers will be to ban the sale of assault type weapons,giantic clips of ammo and bullets designed to rip up the body after they enter. No one not in the military nor on SWAT teams need weapons that powerful. Joe Biden is going to be leading a panel to come up with a bill to be sent to Congress. Then you can do something to show you care. Write your state governors, your Federal Representatives and Senators.

No one is trying to take away your guns, though I wish they could. No one is trying to take away hunting rifles, though I wish they could. They will be trying to take away weapons good only for mass murder. A ban on sale and manufacture of these weapons would honor all the victims of these crimes.

A song or concert dedicated to those lost will soften your heart but will it harden your resolve to
begin the process to rid our very violent country of attack weapons, not defense weapons but attack ones, the only thing they are good for, killing people, as many as possible as quickly as you can.

You're right the LGBT movement started long before Adam came along - but he is taking the next step towards equality for everyone. He is visible, non-apologetic, always polite and articulate. The main differences about Adam are that he did it at the beginning of his career, and he never shies away from questions about coming out. His answers are always honest and straightforward. When you listen to his interviews, you learn how important it was for him to come from such an open, loving family. It's a perfect example of how all of us should accept our LGBT friends and family.

My son is gay, and I didn't do as well (10 years ago) - but I hope he feels completely loved and accepted by us. I once asked him if he would want to get married by a justice of the peace, or in a church. I was surprised when he said in a church, because I know he feels judged by the church. His explanation - the pictures would be much better in a church (he's such a photographer!).

Yes, Adam is taking one huge step in the fight for equality.
