just one more week for those going to Chicago...I have to wait til July 20...I just hope, as it is the only outdoor concert, that they will have the same amazing staging...

@9:47 AM LOL! I don't live in Chicago but I've been there and any mistake on your route if you don't want to be there, sends you downtown. It's very very very crowded. But the motorists are nice. One guy recognized me as a lost tourist when I was caught in bumper to bumper slow/no moving traffic and came over to my car during one of the 'waits to move' and gave me directions out and let me change lanes to go in front of him when the traffic resumed moving about 5 minutes later. ^_^

I know it will be crazy the night of the concert I drive in ST.LOUIS all the time but nervous about this trip.Thank you for answering me.

I guess this stage will do for this kid who always wanted to be a rock star. To use Adam's favorite word, this must be "surreal"! I'm stoked for him, for Brian and Roger and the band, and for all the fans!

It's going to be SO, SO incredible!!! Brian May tweeted a pic of the tour fleet. It's really, really BIG! I know that this will be my best concert EVER!! Love Queen, love Adam, love their fans, love everything about what I'm about to experience in Montreal!!!

JAK here...I keep telling myself there will have to be a DVD made of this tour. It's their last full out tour (as Brian said) surely the DVD would sell.

I think the magic elixir they have been 'drinking' is Adam's excitement, joy, enthusiasm, humor and good nature. It has made them young again. I hope the tour is everything they want it to be....good times again with a superlative frontman.

They have to have the fleet of trucks to carry enough stuff to set up at least 2 or 3 stages ahead of Queen and Adam arriving. They must be carrying all the same stage settings, because it will take at least one day or more to get everything in place, in time for the concert to begin. Some of the venues are only one or two days apart. What a lot of planning goes into this, so that everything is in place for the sound check. I wonder how many duplicate sets of stages were made? Even this part is choreographed to be done at each venue for Queen to walk in and it is already set up, with the next 2 or 3 groups workers putting up the same stage in another city.
Mind boggling.

a moment that Glam Gods only dream of. 11/24/91 the torch was passed.

No torch was passed. Adams role is just like Marc Martel in queen extravaganza. He is not a member of queen. He is a guest vocalist.

Are you crazy? They can set up and tear down in a few hours. They aren't setting up multiple stages days ahead of time.

9:47, The United Center is on Madison, west of Chicago's Loop. I come from a near western suburb on the Eisenhower Expway and go east to get there. There are signs. You will see signs for the stadium from any direction, I think. It's a huge place. You don't necessarily have to go right downtown to get there. Use your GPS is you have one, or a Google map. You'll be fine! I got an email a while back that said the showtime is 7:30.

Somebody just compared Adam Lambert to Marc Martel, I'm getting out of here before the glam gods get angry and the world slips off its axis...before I go may I say Marc Martel....all though very talented... Is a singer in what amounts to a Queen tribute band... Adam Lambert has been let into the inner circle ..he's been ask to preform Queen's music with original members of Queen...by those same original members. ...while that doesn't make him a Queen member ...it puts him in a different league than someone who fronts a tribute band ...let's give credit where credit is do. Brian and Rodger certainly have .....sorry woke up on my soap box today ...rose petal

Anonymous said...

His role is exactly the same as Marc Martels, he just has a different band. The music is handed to him, the production is all developed, and he just needs to do his part which is singing, and brian and roger are there to guide him in how to sing it. He isn't trying to play freddie but its basically the same deal. No comparison to an original artist the way freddie was. It offends me no end to hear people acting like he is in Freddie's league because he is no where near it. And even the biggest diehard glambert must see the difference.

He is the lead singer for Queen, Marc Martel, is not and never was. They had several singers in the extravaganza. Queen is only using one, besides themselves. Adam is leagues ahead of Marc, in looks, personality and training. If Queen thought Marc could have pulled this off they would have hired him instead of Adam. From the first time Brian and Roger heard Adam sing on you tube from AI, they wanted him. He was the only reason they consented to be in the Finale, once they new that he would probably make the top 3.
They treat him like a son, and admire his voice like no other.
They have said that no one else could do full justice to the Queen songs, that the original Queen members wrote.
I have noticed also that much as they truly loved Freddie, they have never said he had a voice that is one in a billion, and that Adam can do things with his voice they have never heard before.
Freddie had a good voice, and he used it well, I think he was way more flambouyant than Adam, but Adam has the overall better voice.

I was a Freddie fan many many years before I ever heard of Adam Lambert ...and even Adam has said there is no comparison to Freddie for him or anyone else ..., I agree...I believe I pointed that out a few threads back .... And I see your point but I just don't see his position as the same as Marc's....I see his position as someone that has been ask ...by 2 people who loved Freddie dearly to join the in celebrating the amazing music the created toghther .... For me that makes him special.... If Brian and Rodger had ask anyone else I would have considered them special as well.... I'm was never trying to take anything from the amazing Freddie Mercury but just don't see Adam's and Marc's position as the same ....but I can see how u do so I will leave it there....I loved Freddie and would never think anyone could take his place.... rose petal

Roger and Brian did not ask Marc to tour with them on their final world tour. IMO opinion, this situation is not the same as "the same as Marc Martels, just with a different band." I'm sure the tribute band is great and that Marc is great fronting it. After all, Brian and Roger chose him to do it. I think he's supposed to be more like "Freddie." A few people here have posted that they've seen that show and it is really good.I just think that to be asked to perform with Brian and Roger themselves on their major world tour (and likely their last one) shows a special respect for Adam and his talent. The feeling between Adam and Brian and Roger seems quite personal and special.

Anonymous said...

Well they aren't going to ask marc because he is still playing on the extravaganza tour, and also since he has been associated with that they wouldn't try to repeat it.

Adam was just in the right place at the right time to make the connection with Brian and roger. Obviously they like him and his voice. No doubt. I think the situation could easily have been reversed where they hired adam for extravaganza, later met marc and he went on tour with Brian and roger. Plenty of queen fans prefer marc because he sounds like freddie, while adam sounds completely different.

And to 3 17, I think your comment is totally cray.

The resident Lol is getting totally anxious and panicking the nearer the QAL tour gets... two double posts already...

Quote from post @2:53 "It offends me no end..." etc. Whaaattt?!? Offends you, Lol???!! Ha,ha. Lmao!

2:53 -- I thought we already told you so many times to go f..k yourself. You must be really, really threatened by Adam Lambert's talent to have to come back here again and again and again. Pity you!

Just so we're clear .... I loved Freddie's music and think he was one of the most influential talents music will ever know....the music he wrote and arranged with the other members of Queen has no equal....he was ... as I've said before ... The voice of his generation ....but I love and adore Adam lambert... his spirt and honest nature changed the way I look at and live my life..., I believe he was destined to bring love...light....understanding and music to anyone willing to open thier minds and hearts..:and except themselves and others for who they truly are...despite all our flaws .... rose petal

You are the one who seems very threatened by some rational discussion.

Anonymous said...

No way would Brian and Roger have chosen Marc to tour with. Wouldn't have fit at all. He's better doing the Extravaganza thing.

Anonymous said...

Brian and Roger recognize a gem when they see it. Adam is a gem, the real thing, and was born to do this kind of show. He has been trained since he was 10 years old. I have listened to Marc, he has no breathing control, and has a sort of raspy voice, how he got the job is beyond reason. Brian and Roger are completely contented with their choice in Adam, and know they have the best singer for this tour . The best part is that Brian , Roger and Adam are equally as talented as each other, not one of the three is better than the other. They respect each others talent, and know they are all equal. No use talking about Freddie at this point, he is not the one going on the tour, but he is in each of their hearts, and they all will do their best to honor his part he played in being a Queen member.
This tour will have a very sad ending as it finishes, because it will be an end of an era, that has lasted from the 1970's to 2014. Where Adam will go after this , we don't know. He has an album to finish, and a slight possibility of doing some more work with Brian and Roger, time will tell. Sure would be nice if his new album was a collaboration of music with Brian and Roger. But that is just a pipe dream.

Rose Petal, the comment was to the anon at 3 17 who posted above you.

@1:53
I think you are wrong about how quickly they can set up a huge stage in just a few hours. I am sure they will be one step ahead of each venue setting up. They don't need 17 diesel trucks to carry the equipment for one show.
They also have to have duplicates for any malfunctions. Just like Adam has to have at least 3 outfits the same, as he did in GNT, just in case of malfunctions or cleanings. Everything he wore in GNT, he had spares of each outfit. including boots or shoes.

There's an excellent description how the truck system works in the Truck n Roll thread (a few threads do, second but last post at the moment.

BTW, check out the number of trucks U2 has had for their concert tours... Mention this just to get perspective on this matter.

Anonymous said...

Well them I stand corrected and apologize for bring a hot head.,,, rose petal

Anonymous said...

20 to 25 trucks for a rock concert is typical with only one set up which can be done in a couple of hours. They may have multiples of some things in case it breaks. Where you see an extra day or two between concerts is when the trucks need more time to get to the next city.

Anonymous said...

well those queen fans that prefer marc do not need to attend, NO ONE is worried about selling seats at this so not an issue. obviously some combo of queen and adam fans are dying to see them

Here is a time lapse video of a stage set up for Maroon 5. From the description:
Apr 21, 2013 This is a time lapse of the crew loading in the equipment for the Maroon 5, Overexposed Spring tour. Every show day 12 semi trucks of gear is loaded in, does a show, and then is loaded out.

RE - Setting up the stage. I remember seeing in one of Bri's blogs that he mentioned they would be performing on one stage, while the stage crew would be ahead of them setting up an identical stage in the next city.

Anonymous said...

This tour must cost millions, with the cost of the venues, workers to set up stage equipment, sound set up and a myriad of other jobs being done.
Then to start over in Australia. Not sure if the same stage set up is used in the Asian part. But is sure id expensive. I wonder if Queen and Adam are guaranteed any kind of minimum wage. I thought they were paid after everyone else had bee paid.

Anonymous said...

Maybe we the fans here should stop worrying about everything... The QAL tour is ready to go, they have years and years of experience of touring, their own trusted personnel for everything and it's their job to worry and take care of everything. Trust them each to do their job.Time for fans to start building up the joyous loving atmosphere and help the QAL really to be Once in a Life Tour!!!

Anonymous said...

Regarding stage set up: Cher is playing in Winnipeg the night before Queen/Adam Lambert.....and we all know how elaborate her stage set is, lol!!.... No way will anyone be in the 'peg a day or two early to set up for Queen! Cher's crew will start taking down her stage set the minute her concert ends, work a few hours into the night, then the Queen crew will be right behind them, doing the set up for Queen, working the rest of the night and into the day....I'm going to both shows, so it will be like magic, seeing the transformation from one night to the next 😀

Anonymous said...

I wish I were going to a Cher concert one night and a Queen+Adam concert the next night. Enough to blow one's mind completely!!!

Anonymous said...

Enough negativity about Marc Martel. He has a voice very similar to Freddie's and he looks as though he could be related to Freddie as well (even though he isn't as far as we know). It's a no brainer that Roger and Brian chose Marc to be the lead singer of the Queen Extravaganza. He fills the role perfectly.

No one will ever replace Freddie - he was and remains in a league of his own - but this QAL concert tour will be something truly special and very exciting. :)

Anonymous said...

No one has said anything negative about M.Martel. The regular trouble maker who belittles Adam every chance it gets brought up Martel's name in this thread just to belittle Adam and annoy Glamberts.

Obviously Adam is the one the remaining original members of Queen wanted and preferred to front their band for this Once in a Lifetime Tour. As a matter of fact imo Adam is the catalyst, that decisive factor that made Brian and Roger want to do a tour this big one more time.

And nobody is trying to replace Freddie. The least of all Adam!!! That's a word that ignorant, uncaring and provocative writers and journalists use to get readers and upset die hard Freddie fans. Freddie is a legend, but he's not here.

No one else (out of the frontmen that have sung with Queen) have the flamboyancy, theatricality and voice needed to make justice for these great, timeless and epic Queen songs!!!

All this 'maturity crap' is so boring! Just hoping his fans (esp. in US) would embrace, accept and let Adam be all that he can be and all that he is... this Flamboyant Bird of Paradise that sets the stage on fire and sings & performs like no one else!
