From Vancitybuzz: Queen + Adam Lambert Tour

KILLER QUEEN: ICONIC BAND ROCKS VANCOUVER (PHOTOS) BY ROB FELLER

EXCERPTS:

"Sure, there’s only one Freddie Mercury. But to be fair, there’s only one Adam Lambert. And with a little help from Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, the former American Idol contestant was able to nicely fill Mercury’s very big shoes on Saturday night in Vancouver, if only for just a couple of hours."

"Enter Adam Lambert. In 2008, Lambert auditioned for American Idol singing “Bohemian Rhapsody”. He impressed May and Taylor so much, they teamed up with the flamboyant singer to perform “We Are The Champions” on the Idol stage three years later. Lambert and the band would perform sporadically over the next couple of years, and practice apparently made perfect as Queen 2.0 rocked Rogers Arena with a force that likely would’ve made Freddie proud."

"Lambert’s voice is a technological tour de force and he quickly won over the Vancouver crowd with his huge range; when May asked “how’s the new boy doing?”, he was answered with a thunderous roar from the audience."

"The band closed the show with a rousing take on “Bohemian Rhapsody” before returning for an encore of “We Will Rock You” and “We Are The Champions”. Lambert sang the hell out of all three, but never once tried to imitate Mercury’s stunning vocals on the originals. Instead, Saturday’s show in Vancouver was more of a tribute to Mercury than a takeover, and the thousands of Queen fans in attendance couldn’t have been more grateful."

It's great to read or hear about the fantastic reviews that Queen and Adam are getting as they begin this summer concert tour. It's probably turning out to be so much better than anyone expected although we kind of knew it would be something special. Everyone seems to be having so much fun and enjoying these iconic rock songs as performed by Adam in his own brilliant style. Roger and Brian seem to be rejuvenated and can't say enough about Adam as he does about all the members of the band. It's just the perfect combination for a spectacular summer tour.

Once again, the praise for Adam is so immense. Some fo these reviewers probably thought of him as "just an AI runner-up," but have quickly learned that he is the real deal. The whole package. A tour de force. An amazing vocalist and showman. I just can't get enough of this guy. Vancouver. Now, on to San Jose! Those shows at the Forum and in Las Vegas should get some good press, I'm hoping!

Left the rest of my "Vancouver" sentence out of my post. Dunno what happened, but you get my drift.

Dang it. My computer froze on the photo, with Adams face showing and what I thought was going to be a white Elmo jacket. I was rather disappointed to see it was Brian's gray hair ;)

The Vancouver show was incredible—I’m slowly coming back to earth. The videos are out there for the specifics, so I’ll just go with my feelings. First the voice, which can reach in and pull out our emotions, filled the arena until the air vibrated. He belts it out, pulls it in, hits it hard, softens the edges--all with such control and pitch. Then his stage presence. Playfulness in Somebody to Love, emotion in WWTLF, generosity in Under Pressure, power in The Show Must Go On, etc.—each lyric sung as a story. I can’t ignore how he looked!! He was soooo handsome projected onto the huge Queen screen. His body looked hot—lean, toned, and muscular. My friend, who has mostly seen red carpet clips of Adam, leaned over and said, “I didn’t know he was so masculine; he has the perfect body.” Yeah, we know. Finally, his ability to connect with the audience and to Roger and Brian was great to witness in person. As he gave out love, it came pouring back to him. Everyone I spoke to was very, very impressed.
This was a big rock concert, performed by extremely talented musicians, and attended by lovers of good music who wanted to listen and cheer, not just party—a great mix of ages. Everyone I encountered was polite and respectful. I only saw one young woman escorted out by security guards.
I feel such pride for what Adam has accomplished in the past five years. This tour is a pinnacle for sure. He glowed with happiness, especially in the final bows. I’m a thrilled fan.

I'm overjoyed with all these excellent reviews of the tour and especially Adam's performances. We all know how amazing Adam's talent is but it's so gratifying to hear the media and the audiences rave about him. He's sooo deserving of all the accolades ......now I'm off to San Jose today with my sister and nieces for the concert tomorrow!!!! Squeeeeeee!

Carolynj So glad you got to experience this. I know when I read comments from Queen fans saying Adam is too feminine on stage. I just want to scream!! I don't see Adam that way AT ALL. They just know he is guy and assume he acts that stereotypical way. Freddie was way more feminine acting on stage than Adam.
You described everything so perfectly. Can't wait to see my show in Dallas. Videos don't do his voice justice. You have to see him live to really appreciate Adam's voice.

“I didn’t know he was so masculine"
What a bigoted comment.

9:14. It was not a bigoted remark. It came from a woman who loves drag queens and fights for equal rights. She adores Raja and now Adam. She just sees the many sides of all people and noted that was how he was coming across. Please be careful not to judge others.

5:10, 5 out of 7 paragraphs is pretty close.

Nice addition of 'excerpts.'

Carolyn, @8:25am & 9:19am

Thank you so much for your heartwarming review on Adam's performance. Even though you are a fan; does not mean you are being overly complimentary. You were just as astute as the so called "professional" reviewers, if not more so. Please, if you go to any other shows; do comment on them. I enjoyed your take on the show so much. I personally did not take your friends comments as a put down; just her truth, no big deal.

I know we can get overly sensitive when it comes to our dear Adam. So I would not be to hard on the commenter @9:14; even I get overly protective at times; sometimes I just can't help myself, overly protective is what I sometimes call myself, when it comes to Adam M. Lambert!

Thanks again for your wonderful fan review!!

9:25 wow things must be pretty slow in troll land, counting paragraphs noticing every little word added. Instead of being jealous of this wonderful site and the people who help make it wonderful why don't you start a site for your favorite idol.

9:42 ha,ha and it seems like they published a bit more than excerpts themselves. Pot meets kettle again.

Anonymous said...

9:53, one paragraph from an article hardly seems like excessive excerpts.

Anonymous said...

9:19, it's at least stereotypical.

So what? are you so perfect? You are now, in my opinion, acting like a stereotypical fault find or negative Nick or Nellie.

Seems as though you are looking for motives that just don't exist. Lighten up and enjoy the talents of this wonderful man, and at least try to respect the opinions of others with out reading negative meanings into them!

Anonymous said...

9:53 be nice. They were so PC overboard with the links. LOL.

Anonymous said...

LOL so typical of this place. You can't have an opinion on somebody else's opinion.

Ignore the sensitive sally. I get what your friend meant, carolynj. I was there also and was amazed at how toned he looked. I couldn't take my eyes off him.
It was a magical and emotional night and I'm still on cloud nine. ♡
