An Essay from the Blog: Aphra: Writing For Love

By Jana Firestone Oct. 1, 2014

Queen and Adam Lambert

*Excerpts from the essay:

"Queen are renowned for anthemic, foot-stomping hits and operatic ballads. They experienced worldwide success throughout the 70s and 80s and when lead singer Freddie Mercury passed away in 1991, the rest of the world could be forgiven for thinking that this was the end of the road for their beloved Queen. Without the iconic Mercury at the helm, what future could there possibly be?"

"Fast forward 23 years through a posthumous album and a handful of mildly successful attempts at international touring and suddenly Queen are right back where they should be. At the peak of their game, embracing the accolades of their hard-earned success. This is, in part, thanks to the gloriously gifted Adam Lambert."

"When booking my gloriously expensive front row tickets to see Queen and Adam Lambert, I was prepared for a good night, belting along to my favourite tunes. I was not prepared however, for the full-scale onslaught of pure, mind-blowingly real talent that is Adam Lambert."

"Lambert breathed new life into the music, while gracefully respecting its form. Sure, there was some show-ponying and peacocking at times but that was all part of the thrill. There was no mimicry or impersonation. Lambert humbly toed the line, honouring Mercury at every turn."

"Lambert, Taylor and May make a formidable trio of undeniable talent....."

**Please note that while this essay is dated Oct. 1, 2014, it seems the author was not aware of the upcoming and recently announced UK & European Tour...because she ends with:

Excerpt:

"While it is not clear if there are any plans for Queen to take another spin around the globe in years to come, whatever direction the band chooses to go, that night and that music was irrefutably a once in a lifetime experience.

I suspect she will be very happy to note that Queen (and Adam Lambert) are taking "another spin around the globe" very very soon!....As we ALL are!!!
