I read on Atop, I think, that Adam may have a project going with Cindy Lauper. This may be what this is about. Might not be Adam's own new music. Just guessing. Hope he's working on A3, too!

glitzylady said...

I heard that too, but any new music news is awesome! That's been rumored for awhile..

I remember the duet they did a while back ( sorry, I can't remember the song they performed but it was Sooo beautiful) so if they are working on a new song together I'm sure it will be amazing!

I think the duet was Mad World, right? Whatever it was, I remember it was beautiful. I am excited about his project with Cyndi and I hope it gets a lot of media attention! She won a Tony last year, I think.

That seems like a pretty strong hint, that they might be doing something together. Doesn't seem like it would have anything to do with his album. May be they are going to do a guest spot together . It's about time we saw Adam on TV. He only seems to get recognition on the internet. If my computer broke down, I wouldn't know what he was doing. He gets almost no media recognition.

@Anna Marie, I agree with you about the lack of media recognition and it is such a shame. People don't know what they are missing. I am hoping this time around that will change. Hopefully he will get major support in this matter from new label and a strong management push to all primetime TV shows for exposure. Adam is so enjoyable when he is on these shows, and he needs the exposure.

Hit songs get major media attention. Hope he gets some this to around.

This gets me a lot more excited than anything Avicii related. Regardless what exact project this collaboration entails, I can sense that this musical lane is a more suited for Adam. It may have nothing to do with his next album, but multitasking seems to be the way to go. Still, my biggest hope for Adam and era 3 is that he will release music that really "clicks" with major audiences. He should have figured out by now what kind of songs capture audiences the most. That's the key to media recognition outside of his fandom.

A song becomes a hit by having major media attention; that is just the way it works in my opinion. I have heard many songs that were not half as good as Adam's; but they got played on the radio all the time. Also, the singers were on every show known to man. That is because the had promotion teams behind them and they were well known. The exposure is key. If a song and entertainer is not heard over and over by the masses; it does not matter how good it is if no one is aware of it.

Anne Marie said...

Adam knows what clicks with the people, but he still wants to do it his way. Hope he is right this time, his fans have always liked his music. But he has to reach beyond his fans. Hope his label will guide him and he will listen. he is very much his own man, who has a bit of a stubborn streak.

I wish he was on the radio with all his songs--they are awesome. The pwople on the radio are wierd. They play a lot of crap over and over. I guess it's a money thing. I hope his new cd will be played on the radio. It's really a crime how great singers are ignored and others who can't sing worth a damn are played to death. I just don't get it.

I think those first two singles were not Adam's choices; that is why there was a hold up. They wanted to bring in known artists' song writing skills. Therefore, from some talk I heard just floating around; possible just a rumor; but apparently Adam had no choice but to listen to the powers that be. I believe if Adam had been listened to, he was on the right track. He is very smart and knows exactly what his fans and he himself wants. Hope is has some imput this time. He is a very smart and talented man, with good instincts.

@4:29 PM

Amen to that. I totally agree with your sentiments. It is a shame. I hope things are different this time too.

@Gabi
I will have to politely disagree with something with Cindy Lauper being in his musical lane rather then Avicii...
Maybe it will be more to your liking, but Adam loves dance and pop music, its what he listens too. Avicii is a huge name in the EDM market, which can only help get Adams name out to a younger demographic. I don't think he will get radio play until the radio PTB see that he has a younger audience...they only care about listeners in the 18-30 category...I think if Lay me down had been released as the 2nd or even 3rd single off the True album it would have been a big hit....
Cyndy Lauper, no matter how much people like her here, she's not really relevant to most of the music buying public.....saying that though, I'm looking forward to any new music how ever it comes....as someone said diversity is the key to a long career. I liked their Mad world duet.

My 2 cents (or 10 cents :))):

Adam was the "executive producer" on Trespassing.. Meaning that he had quite a bit of "say" in what was included, and was involved in the creative process more fully that he might have been as simply "the singer, the artist"..

As a result Trespassing was truly his "baby" and it represented the music that he himself loved and wanted to get out there.. The message he wanted to convey. The various tracks flowed one into the next and told the story he wanted to tell. .. He said he wanted to include songs that a wide variety of people could identify with, and were also at least in part, aimed at and supporting his community as well.. He was in a serious relationship during the time he was working on the songs for the album.. and the selection process. It no doubt colored his music, with love and passion, for both his relationship and his focus on both the message and the music selected to be in the album. He was clearly thrilled about it and no doubt continues to be very proud of Trespassing, the album.

The problems came into play when it was time to select songs for the SINGLES that were put out.. The songs were chosen by the record company, according to Adam, at least the final decisions were made by them. And there were songs as bonus tracks that perhaps would have done well as singles but Adam said they could not be considered as singles after they were added as bonus tracks on the Deluxe version of the album in the US, and the additional tracks on the UK (and other) version..

When asked (for the millionth time) why "Runnin' " was not on the main album, he said "I f****d up..." And that was his only comment about that subject. Whether he really meant that, or whether it was a short answer so that fans would stop asking the question, is hard to say. Who really knows how that would have done as a single.. or others if they'd been selected as singles. (I also really LOVE "Map", and wonder how that one might have done..)... And more.............

I felt bad about his answer and wonder how difficult it must have been for him to have his hard work and his vision, just sort of be quietly ignored by radio in general. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain it must have caused him..

Whether the singles that were chosen were the "right" ones or not, in hindsight, it seemed that the label didn't give him as much promotion as they could have.. Didn't seem like it. But what do I know??!!.. He went around to radio stations all over the US but he was pretty much on his own.. The stations did not play the music for the most part..sadly. It's been a sore subject since 2012..And water under the bridge. Onward and upward!!!!

I don't think that we need to blame Adam, really. He had a vision for his music.. It was good.. It was critically acclaimed and praised by a wide variety of music experts/critics.. But it just didn't catch on. Sadly. Darn it.

(continued below..sorry :))

(The rest of my 2 cents....)

I suspect that this time around he will be doing something pretty amazing (again..), and hopefully very "current". He's been working with Max Martin, who produced a good percentage of Taylor Swift's new album "89" as well as her previous one "Red". She's doing pretty well :)) ... I suspect Mr. Martin knows what's going to sell and what radio is going to be interested in playing. It's got to be good, and it's got to fit the demographic.

Adam's had nearly 3 years (since the end of 2011 in reality) to figure out what's going to work for him AND hopefully will be embraced by Top 40 radio and it's listeners.. Just because we fans love it doesn't mean it's going to be loved by others.. And Top 40 is basically music for a young-ish market.. Teens and 20 somethings.. Others of us (speaking for myself here) who are perhaps not in that exact demographic are not taken seriously when we request the music..

I have to say that I like a fair amount of the music out there right now, and in the past few years ...The singers don't necessarily have Adam's voice but that only counts for so much.. It's the sound of the song, the music, etc.. If he can find the right combination of "sound" and "voice" he may just have a big hit.. With the right promo (label money & media backing). And some luck.

I have to agree that the Top 40 stations do play the same music over and over again.. But It's Top 40 and that's what they do.. If a song isn't popular, or Top 40 material it doesn't get played.. Period. Listeners expect to hear the "hits"...

Fingers crossed...

When Adam made his second album, he said several times, he wanted it to be about his fans getting to know him and understand him. He doesn't need to sing about the rough times of being gay. People in general don't want to hear about that. They don't even care, they just want to like the tune, and if they can dance to it. They don't want to hear how a gay person has no where to go, because they are different and they are judged for being gay. I think that is what ruined his chances of getting on the radio.
If he can come up with some music that is just some love songs, or anything that makes a person feel good when they sing it themselves, he might have a better chance of success. Anything even slightly pertaining to or about the gay people, or everyone should be treated equally won't work, and won't get on the radio.

I think that "OutLaws of Love" is one of the most beautiful written and performed records ever; written by a beautiful Gay man. If it made a lot of people feel better and uplifted then it was worth the efforts. I know I certainly love it, just as a fellow human being. If it made any person feel better or something that they could identify with, then that is very powerful. Kudos to Adam for such a heartfelf and meaniful song.

This 'Conundrum' discussed here will most probably never be solved.

Adam is such a freak (in all the best ways) for "regular music business" and for "regular music listeners"... He's too unique and special to be "wasted" for those masses who listen (yeah right!) what ever gets constantly played on the radio playlists. These masses don't really know or care about real singing, they just listen to what TPB feed them.

Personally I hope Adam finds longevity in his own special way --- hey, he's still here stronger than ever --- and never has to "change who he is" just to 'please the masses'... The mediocre music constantly played on US radio is so not Adam!!!

In view of the latest writings re music busines and record selling, something has to change and hopefully it has started already. But Dear Universe, you know as well as all lovers of real singing & real music that it's not Adam (the one needing to change, I mean)!!!

@2:21 AM

Bravo! Just loved your post; and so many others in regards to Adam not changing his core
uniqueness(?). That is who he is; and that is why we love him so much. He marches to the beat of his own drum, which is often said about him. He also marches to the beat of "Rogers" drum, so to speak, and sings "Queens" songs like no other living human being.

Adam is truly loved just the way he is; and is making a good living in the process. He will be just fine following his God given instincts. If Adam sings it; they will come!!

@Vagrant
I also agree with you..

The thing is, we worry about Adam being appreciated within the music industry.. and to be honest, he may never get to the point where he's a "Top 40 artist"... It may not be in the cards for him.. Or he might just do it this next time around.. But I think we all here appreciate that he is very very special.. And not your average cookie cutter pop star.. (Not that thats' a bad thing, I like Bruno Mars, Katie Perry, Lady Gaga, etc.. etc.. etc..so many more..). But Adam is my favorite :))) And that is why I'm still here in the fandom for going on six years (Oh my gosh!!! I can't believe it's been that long!!!)

Being a Top 40 artist isn't all there is.. I suppose we just want the world for Adam! There's frankly no one else quite like him, and as Byron Cooke, the Aussie DJ has said more than once, radio really doesn't know what to do with him.. He doesn't quite "fit" into any particular genre.. or format, apparently.. So he remains a bit of an outsider.. Whether that changes in the future remains to be seen..

I'll always be here, rooting him on and pretty much adoring him..

Just one more comment here: I was working on this one late last night, but then the pics of Adam at Bootsey Bellows started to appear and this was shelved for later :))

In answer to the comments about Adam not being played or his last album paid attention to because of the "gay" content: My thoughts..

Mary Lambert sings "Same Love" and "She Keeps Me Warm"... They did well on the radio... "Same Love" is a Gay Rights-inspired ballad/love song that was used in the Washington State campaign for Marriage Equality (which passed that year..Mary Lambert and Macklemore are from WA). "She Keeps Me Warm" is also played on the radio.. She sang it on the Grammy Awards show.. They had a mass wedding including all sexual orientations on the Grammys.. It was controversial for some, but it was there.

Back to Adam and "Trespassing" the album...

Adam has a variety of songs on Trespassing.. Some are love songs.. Some are catchy and fun.. Some are poignant, a couple are heart wrenching...some are very beautiful (another song I love is "Nirvana"). . Most are universally applicable to all sexual orientations/human beings.

"Outlaws of Love" is the only song that is easily identifiable as a song about same sex love.. It was used in the documentary "Bridegroom".. It had a meaning and a purpose. "Underneath" could be about anyone.. and could have multiple interpretations.. It was so very personal, gut wrenching, and I suspect Adam didn't really assume it would be on the radio.. It was something he needed to express, out loud.

Adam said that "Kickin' In" portrays life in the clubs.. the "she" in the song is referring to a drag queen, and we ONLY know that because Adam said it was.. Otherwise, who knew. The average listener (ie casual fan) wouldn't know that.. Why would they?? Beyond those songs, nothing else is implicitly and exclusively "gay" per se.. And would only be interpreted as "gay" by some people because Adam is singing the songs.. In my opinion of course....

It was indeed a very personal album for Adam. Other artists also record music that means something to them.. Adam just happens to be gay..and proudly and beautifully so.. And look at the huge strides Marriage Equality has made. The "Post-Gay" times that Adam occasionally refers to are coming closer, thankfully. .. Hopefully the time is coming when we humans listen to the music and take what we hear and feel within ourselves.. Without thinking about the sexual orientation of the artist. Or judge when a woman sings about loving another woman.. or a man singing about loving another man.. When love is love....

Not preaching or "pontificating" here (I can hear it now :)) .. Just how I feel about Adam and his music. And Trespassing.. and hopefully things to come..

After reading all the comments I had one thought........I have wished for a prime time variety show for a very long time. In "my" days there were many and since they each had a musical guest weekly.....it was a marvelous showcase for singers. Now, yay! Neil Patrick Harris will host a variety show. Let's all cross our fingers that our Adam will be a guest on his show. A breathtaking song and some humorous chit chat will introduce him to a super wide network audience.

@Anon 8:41 and @glitzylady - thank you for your kind words.

This is the kind of thread I've been missing so much, real and varying opinions and thoughts, longer posts that create more of a discussion... Greetings to everyone!

@glitzylady - I hope your wonderful, insightful and informative postings here are/were read by many! They offer great perspective to all Adam fans and especially the ones that have joined the fandom lately (whether because of QAL or other reasons). Appreciate all your posts in this thread, just a shame it's already this far back and probably sliding into the Archives fast.... :(

Sorry my thanks and getting back took this much time, was out of town and too tired to try to post several times when I got back...signed in but got "thrown out" several times... Don't know why that happens in some threads while posting from my phone. Hope I get this one posted....

What ever lies in Adam's future, I sincerely hope I can be here to see & hear it! He truly fills my heart with many special things.... ILHSFM!!!!!
