From Unreality TV:
"Adam Lambert on X Factor! Advises Paul Akister on Don’t Stop Me Now VIDEO"

"In his pre performance VT Paul admitted:" “They maybe can’t tell I am loving it because of my straight face and monotone voice, but I really am loving it….This week I am going to take on Mel B’s advice. I do trust her.”

"Mel arranged for Paul to have a quick chat with Adam Lambert, who has plenty of reality TV experience since his stint on American Idol. He also knows a thing or two about Queen, since he’s currently touring with the band."

" Adam advised: “Maybe you can experiment with being more over the top than you would ever be. Go to your Freddie [Mercury] place.” "

Sorry, an impossible feat to sing like Freddie or Adam. It was pretty not great..

Adam (and undoubtably, Freddie) performs (ed) at a level and expertise that very few achieve. Adam's drop-dead gorgeous looks & physique and the back up musicality legend of Queen also doesn't hurt the electrifying quality of performance one bit, either! :)))
I think this fellow did a pretty good job considering the level of difficulty of this song. It's harder to sing than it seems. The ranges are all over the place (typical of Freddie Mercury's writing) and would be quite difficult for a talented male artist to display it's full beauty. I recall Simon Cowell's general admonishment to female AI contestants: "don't attempt Whitney or Mariah" bc most of the time its simply too difficult to pull off well. Perhaps the same admonishment would serve with the male contestants: "don't attempt Freddie". Lol.... ;)
Still, I admire this fellow's courage... And he pulled it off better than many.

As for Adam... I agree with you Alyssa....He is simply a phenomenon. One in a kabillion. (And so was Freddie). We are blessed to has him in our lifetime... And for many years to come. :))

I had a smile on my face the whole time the young man was singing....he was doing his best to follow Adam's advice. Bravo!

Paul gave it his all, his best shot. Did a decent job, too. Adam's voice is just beyond compare. I give anybody credit who tries to sing a Freddie/Adam song.

Awful arrangement. No, no and no.
Queen songs require extra special singing talent.

Part of it was pretty good part of it not at all. Adam said to be as over the top as you have ever been. But. The over the top part was dancers. Adam had not a dancer one Queen concert. The man was still way out of the box. His vocals are just do spot on every note hit perfectly and no one really should think anyone could do that night after night to huge crowds. But Adam did.
There just something about Adams voice and tones that are so special for Queen songs as Freddie were. No one put there now can compare to Adam with Queen. I think if people had never heard Adam with Queen those people probably think its a lot better. It was good not anything I get excited about. Those songs just don't need dancers they need the singer very theatrical himself he wasn't that. Correction that was no one out there today or coming on I have heard compared to Adam voice with Queen songs. Hope they will be on X Factor this year it's on AXS. I don't mean to be critical of people trying to make it but Adam just one of a kind! Sue

It is unkind to be critical of people trying to make it, by comparing them to Adam or Freddie. He tried to be his best.

Yes Sue, Adam is definitely one of a kind in all ways, talent, looks, personality. I have been under his spell since 2009.

Well it's a hell of a rough business Adam knows that. With all his talent he certainly had his struggles. There were certainly some very unkind comments to him comparing him to Freddie. He took them in stride and did a fabulous job. I was not being unkind I was stating how I feel. He did his best and that's all you can do. I think minus the dancers it would been so much better. But it was good. I check AXS tomorrow night see if that's Skype is on there of Adam.
Just read on another post on twitter saying just saw on X Factor UK Adam on Skype to a contestant Paul obviously. Announce they Queen plus Adam Lambert on in couple weeks. New one Sunday night AXS if you have it. May be on there the one just on. Says 10/09 on there there a bit ahead there. Vicki totally agree with you. Sue

I thought he did pretty good.

The song isn't one of my favs but I actually had goosebumps in a few bars which was surprising. He has a pretty good voice, maybe more suited to big ballads than rock.

Nice of Mel to think of Adam and get him involved.

Paul tried his best so kudos to him for that but the world had Freddie, and now our beloved Adam, who holds the standard so high on singing Queen songs no one else comes close IMO.

Paul has a good voice no doubt about it but not the power, stage presence, breath control, richness of tone of Adam, so best not to compare because one can't.

I feel very blessed that I can enjoy the talent of Adam in my lifetime....he's a gift.

Adam's da best!!!

Paul isn't a professional at singing and performing like Adam .... you need to crawl before you can walk and I wish him well.

Anonymous said...

11:57, I agree. He is where Adam was 6 years ago.

Dee R Gee said...

I think six years ago Adam was miles ahead of where Paul is now. No discredit to Paul, but his pipes are just not at Adam's level. He gave it his best shot, though, and did a nice job.

@Dee R Gee,

I was just going to post exactly what you did; if Paul had been where Adam was six years ago; he would not have to come to Adam or anyone else for advice at this point; he would be the talk of the show and the audiences!

Just signed up for AXS for a few months just to see Adam and Queen on the Xfactor, found out I should have had it all along. Thanks Adam for being in my life!
