Philip, best not to burn bridges. American Idol gave you "Home"..... Be careful, you're not that great.

Are they using old numbers? I thought Adam was further down the list most recently.

glitzylady said...

I don't think it matters what numbers they used really.. We're aware of the most recent Forbes list.. :))

The bottom line is: Adam is doing very well.. and next year's Forbes listing and ranking for him should be QUITE impressive....

Anonymous said...

So if there is a story next year using this years numbers instead of the current number reflecting the QAL tour will that be okay because it doesn't matter which numbers they use.

Anonymous said...

Of course it's OK when they get it wrong but in Adam's favor. If they got it wrong not in Adam's favor Glamberts would be ripping The Today Show a new one.

Well, I know PP is doing fine. He signed a contract with a show that gave him his shot and he is reaping the benefits. I guess he doesn't like it anymore. Perhaps he should stay true to his contract as agreed upon and then move on and have a big career on his own terms. Wish him luck.

I'm not concerned with the "income data" about the Idols. It's old news. Next year, Adam's numbers will be high.

Sorry I'm posting again, but... I can't get the Today show link to come up so I can hear the Adam mention. Just keeps spinning and spinning. What do they say about Adam, anyway? (just in case I can't open the link).

glitzylady said...

About the incorrect year's numbers, and my comment that it doesn't really matter what numbers they use..:

I didn't see any real point of saying that his numbers for this year were lower, because with that comes a whole looooonnnnggg story of explanation, but since you had to say it, okay.....Since the numbers were in his favor in this story, I'm good with it.. Why wouldn't we be?? That's what I meant. Guess you may not have gotten the point I was making (poorly apparently)... Sometimes things are best left unsaid... but oh well.........

It's a GREAT mention for Adam on national TV and I stick by my statement..

:))))

@Dee R Gee
It's really just what is posted in the thread topic... Very short mention with the picture...

Interesting that it's not working.. :((

I went to the link to watch the video. The video mostly talks about P2 and how he would like to get out of his contract with AI. Just name mention of Adam tied in earnings with P2 after Carrie and Kelly. But the news is mostly about P2. Wish P2 all the best. Big corporations are brutal. NBA and NFL new players or rookies can get out of their contracts anytime they want to. I don't see why Idols shouldn't be able to do the same thing.

I bet a lot of attorneys would love to take this case.

I agree with Allysa. Phillips wasn't that good in the first place. He should be counting his blessings that he won in the first place. He's up against a very powerful entity. He may end up with absolutely nothing, including a career. A true talent can call all the shots. 19 E probably knew he's be a flash in the pan with no longevity, not that I have ANY admiration for 19E.

If I recall correctly, Kelly and Clay both sued to get out of their contracts. It worked out well for Kelly, Clay not so much. I hope Phillip does well. I really like him and his music. He reminds me a lot of Dave Matthews. Great mention of Adam , just lets people know how successful his career is.

I have no leanings either way on the lawsuit.... But, I will say that I do like PP's music. I think his voice and musical style are both distinctive enough and - perhaps, more importantly - he is a fairly good song writer (which, IMO, is why "Home" did so well). Even if his own records don't make major news.... His songs can still be successful through other artists. Enough artists have faired well in the music industry that way for it to produce a viable career and decent living. Good singers and producers worth their salt typically stay on the hunt for good songs....

Anyway... My few cents :)

Does P2 expect to make more $$$ than he made so far? I think it still remains a mystery how he could win AI. P2 was lucky that Clint Eastwood liked his song and promoted it in his movie for Olympics. I heard this song in few commercials. What is his problem?

Regardless of whether Phillip Phillips is your cup of tea, or not, he's having a very successful career... My husband is a big fan.. He's also a big fan of Adam's.. I liked his song "Home" and knew the second he sang the song on Idol, it was going to do well.. And wow has it!!! You hear it everywhere!

I hope he and Idol can come to a mutually agreeable solution..

Allysa Mentor said...

Again, Philip Philips DID NOT write "Home". Jimmy Iovine picked that for him to sing . He is talented, but IMO he is one of so many singer, song writers, and there are sooooo many out there. He signed a contract, should honor it and then move on. The business is tough , and he is not doing anything that every other winner of a talent show is doing. He should be making friends , not enemies in this business. You have to pay your dues , bud and then go off on your own.

Anonymous said...

Home made it big because it was picked up for the US broadcast of the Olympics.

Anonymous said...

Wow, I had no idea the fan police didn't want fans talking about this years lowers numbers for Adam's Forbes list.

yada said...

Hey Alyssa :)..... Thanks for the correction about who wrote "Home". You helped me out; as I always want to be accurate with who gets credit where it's due. (PP's "Home" was penned by several writers... one of which is La Toya Jackson, interestingly enough).

Anyway.... Perhaps my mistake kind of demonstrates what I mentioned earlier about a good song-writer(s) and .... and a singer with a distinctive voice. Makes it so memorable and "sticks" to the artist. I think PP has possibility for more of that in his career in various forms. Likely, timing is also a key factor.

I certainly could be mistaken.... But, it seems as if what PP is doing genuinely perturbs or upsets you a bit. Sorry if that is the case. Blessings :)

Not really Yada, I don't have a lot of respect for some of these record companies. Their bottom line is always the $$$$., and Philip probably has some valid points. However, he signed up for this. Without Idol he probably wouldn't have this career, and honestly although I do feel he is talented, he's not unique enough. I think Kelli, Carrie, and Adam all stand out on their own. There are so many singer/ songwriter types like him, and I don 't think he is good enough to buck the whole system. He needs to make friends and not label himself as difficult. Just my opinion.

@Allysa. We live in land of "We The People", not land of "$$$$" or land of "We work our arses off for BIG CORPORATE MACHINES". I know this culture of slavery still is etched in unconscious mind of some people but it should be realized that people's rights should be above $$$$ and corporate's rights.

@AlyssaMentor

I came to this thread for the first time just now so I was surprised to read P2 was suing AI to get out of the contract. I also wanted to add that P2 did not write "Home" . Thanks for clarifying the issue for the posters who thought otherwise.

I think Adam is one of the few idols ( maybe the only one) that continually gives a shout out to AI, publicly thanking them, for giving him the opportunity to use the show as a platform to catapult his career to stardom (and what a superstar he became)!

Good luck to P2 though...seems like he is doing well regardless of his dispute with AI.

Anonymous said...

Not a fan of P2 nor his music.

Anonymous said...

CT, I don't know how many Idols you follow. I follow American Idol in general but nobody specific except Adam. Yet I have read that Daughtry has thanked Idol and been positive about the experience. I also remember Taylor Hicks saying he was thankful for the opportunity American Idol gave him as well as Ruben Studdard said he was grateful to Idol. I wouldn't be surprised if more do but we just don't hear about it in our own little bubbles.

Home was a big success due to its use during Olympics and was picked up by others for commercials.
But the success was the song, not identified with the singer, IMO, or else P2's 2nd album would not fail as it did.
P2 had been difficult also during AI, not conforming with the AI styler, but kept wearing grey shirts on AI.

Anonymous said...

Those AI winners who complained about the contract, did not sue but finished their contract.
Clay had a lawyer helped him out of it but didn't sue.
Taylor Hicks opted out of the contract, I believe right after winning.
It's only P2 who opted to sue making enemies, what label or management then would be interested in signing him up?

Interesting comment on THR article about P2:

"Idol makes contestants sign what I considered unenforceable reams of paperwork before they are allowed to audition and make contestants terminate existing contracts before they are even allowed to participate in Hollywood Week thus preventing them from earning any income from ventures having nothing to do with a karaoke singing competition (meaning Talent agency contracts already in place for models and actors for commercial, film, TV, print and and movies) while IDOL makes them jump through all their hoops without paying them a dime until they reach a top 10,12, 20 or maybe 24 where they are then required to sign a SAG-AFTRA contract which cost around $3100 to join). They sign it blindly thinking they'll never get that far anyway, but thats the hook IDOL uses. Assume IDOL pays for SAG that but no idea. Wonder why the contestants are so young especially the females. Last year 13 of the final 15 females were 21 and under while 13 of the final 15 males were over 21. And they treat the contestants very poorly, even ones chosen to go to Hollywood Week and beyond. Not watching IDOL anymore after that mean spirited exploitive airport hanger debacle last year. That IMO was extremely cruel and something Euros might think sporty...but not Americans who don't appreciate our children and grandchildren being exploited and treated so harshly. Rumored that 5+ Million viewers stopped watching IDOL for good after that start of Hollywood week last year. Phillip Phillips is a wonderful young man, Daughter met him in Charleston at callbacks and they became jam buddies on guitar since there is so much waiting around. I know it worked out great for Adam Lambert losing out to Chris Allen (Where is he now) as Lambert hands were not tied for the next 4-6 years or longer for what I have heard is essentially chump change. US Entertainment Industry is overtaken by UK a lot. They're not familiar with legal ramifications of US and they'll learn it in a hard way if they're not careful. Talent exploitation is as bad as slavery. US 13th Amendment forbids it.

If I am going to be honest; no disrespect meant; I think that Kris Allen is more talented then Phillip Phillips, I just think that Idol gave him much more support than they did Kris.

I think many people felt a lot of sympathy for Phillip because he was kind of sickly during Idol. I read that he made a lot of demands; and refused to do certain car commercials that the other Idols had to do; and got away with it.

He was given so many opportunities that the last few winners did not get; now he is complaining, please!

If kris had been given half the opportunities that this young man has gotten from Idol, he would probably have been grateful. I thought the young lady that was up against him that Adam liked should have won anyway. Sorry if I offended anyone; but, just the way I see it!

Just so used to the Gracious and really talented Adam Lambert, who has said, that "entitlement is not sexy"; nor is it a smart business move. So glad that Adam had the good sense of not burning bridges on his way up the ladder!

I do wish the best for this young man; and hope he gets someone looking out for his best interest.

Why does anybody here care about Phil Phillips? Go argue at MJs.

Allysa Mentor said...

Totally agree about Kris and Philip. The difference is the song. "HOME" , without that Philip have not have gone as far as he did. There are many talented singers from Idol that you never hear about again.

Dee R Gee said...

I'm sure P is "grateful" to Idol in some way. I do remember that he was once asked if he still watched the show, and he said, "No, I'm done with Idol." He is probably basically a nice person. But I think his comment was a little snarky. I didn't realize he had special demands when he was on the show. I wish him luck. He got lucky with Home, which is a very good song. I like it. I still think he should stay true to his contract and then move on. JMO

First song HOME was played during Olympics cuz 19E and Fox paid Olympics millions of dollars to get it played they won the bid cuz their offer was highest. That is reason for high sales. To me PP seems like a nice guy but he knew when he signed contract b4 audition that he had a binding contract. He is wasting time suing 19E as every other contestant signed same contract.

Oh, only accurate statistics is Forbes that other company isn't to be trusted. Adam made 5M from 7/1/13 to 7/1/14 that didn't include most of income from Queen tour.

Anonymous said...

Agree, this thread should be whisked to MJ's or to the Am Idol site. So many here have said over and over they don't care for Am Idol no more and yet threads with something to do with Idol always get a lot of comments....Carry on. But this "news" is not about Adam. js

glitzylady said...

The news WAS about Adam in that he was mentioned on the Today Show, his picture was shown, etc.. It was newsworthy as an item here on this Adam Lambert Fan blog.. Discussion followed.. It happens....

Allysa Mentor said...

In conclusion on my part. Adam still considers himself part of the AI family. He is humble and grateful. Philip is not.

He is definitely determine in a hunt for a big treasure. That's a vibe I got by checking his FB page. He's either will sink and never gonna be heard of again or he might get something big out of this law suit and become famous. Only time will tell if his attorney can substantially prove that 19 breached their own contract.

Olympics was on NBC.
And it was surprising that NBC chose to play Home.

Anonymous said...

P2 hated Home and repeatedly complained about being given that as his winning song.
But it became multiplatinum and he said no more.
