I think it's... triangle > mind body spirit, interlocking circles > multi universes, and we are a speck, a molecule in this infinite space, time, dimension, postulated multiverse...oooh-la-la.

Lam-My... haha ..your trying to analyse that design reminds me of the well-known quote of Sigmund Freud.."Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar"!

Nanbert... Your given quote states "Sometimes" ... so to me, the design I tried to analyse has a deep symbolic meaning. Sigmund Freud also propounded the symbolic meaning of cigars, other than what it is.

Lam-My, I doodle designs constantly-- some of them I even finish into more precise art works..just for fun. But I was an Art Major in college, and worked for many years in an Art Gallery, and in my experience almost all of the geometric abstracts (including mine) being currently produced simply have no base in symbolism-- according to their painters. The artists admitted they just liked the designs, and the precise work involved in producing them. However, they DID like to give them mysterious names!

Of course, in more ancient work, such as you must see there in Asia, there is a lot more symbolism involved...the zodiac, animals, yin/yang,superstitions, different Gods, etc.

Funny story... many years ago I was messing around on a abstract painting in a Jackson Pollock style, and inadvertently made a painting that I liked well enough to hang in my living room. I get some compliments on it... but mostly I get interpretations of what is depicted in it which constantly amaze me. Even when I say I depicted NOTHING in it, only worked with a color scheme in a certain style of painting--- still people INSIST that there is thus and so in that painting, and that it must have been subconscious on my part! Interestingly, the insistent ones each have completely different interpretations! Go figure.

I had a friend who painted abstract landscapes -- and all we artists constantly accused her of painting pornographic works, which she vehemently denied. But the paintings WERE full of rolling curved suggestive lines that were hard to overlook! I chuckle thinking about it.

Nanbert... Yea, from the artist's perceptive, usually it's more on the shapes, lines, curves, balance; in this case, symmetry, two identical designs juxtaposed. Adam's tattoos seem to depict symbolisms, like his hexagon/triangle/circle tattoo, also used as a logo for his band. Even his infinity 8 tattoo, he explained that it symbolised the back and forth flow of energy between him and the audience.
So I was looking at it from that perspective not art/design per se. When you quoted "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."...you are just seeing it from the perspective of art/design which was not how I was viewing it.

Should be... perspective (1st line).

Lammy, actually what I meant to imply was that the ARTIST may not have "meant" anything by the design-- ergo, the design is just a design..... which would corrolate with Freud's statement of "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" ( i.e. it doesn't HAVE to symbolize anything).

You, of course, can read anything you want into it... whether there is something there or not. The question which remains is how valid your interpretation is, without knowing the artist's intent...if there was one.

But, in a way, that is what art is-- each person interprets it differently, depending on one's perspective. If you are into symbolism, you will probably find it. Whatever floats your boat! Nothing wrong with that!
