Press Party: Adam Lambert on whether he would perform at Trump inauguration

Adam Lambert says he wouldn't perform at Donald Trump's presidential inauguration in January, even if there were huge sums of money on offer.
The president elect is due to be sworn into power on January 20, but it seems Lambert wouldn't be keen to perform at the event. He told the BBC on Monday (December 12):
"I don't think I would take the money on that one. I don't think I'd be endorsing that. They might struggle."
It has been suggested Trump's team is struggling to book high-profile acts for the event. In 2009, president Barack Obama had Beyoncé and Aretha Franklin perform for him.

Adam, go for it! I say! You rarely say no to anyone who invites you. He ain't that bad! His thinking/philosophy is also his freedom! like you have your own freedom and philosophy. You don't have to abide by his...it does not automatically mean you are submitting.
It could be your loyalty towards your group/community; sometimes you just got to go it alone. On the other hand, if you can't perform at optimum due to your frame of mind...then it's a different ball-game altogether.

By the way, Mr Trump referred to Speaker Paul Ryan as: "Like a fine wine" (14 Dec 2016)

Earlier, he used my favourite interjection: "lo and behold"...relating the account of Ben Carson and the knife broke. (5 Dec 2016)

Now, here is my poem on you as *fine wine... (maybe his writer reads my poems/stories lwl!)

Adam in Shanghai
The last time it was The Original High
Time just whizzes by
Now, sizzling Frontman/Queen
Seems unable to take his eyes
Off Asia where action is on the rise
Word is getting round
More countries in the region
Want a taste of this *fine wine
No time to whine...would rather climb
To the pinnacle, his vocals
Pop, rock, opera...
Just name it, he'll oblige

He is that bad, and proves it every day. There is no way in the world Adam would perform for that monster and all his cronies. NEVER
PAUL Ryan is actually much worse than Trump.

Adam has integrity. That's worth more than money.

I'm so proud of ADAM for saying he would NOT perform at the inauguration!! I won't even turn on the TV to watch it & every time it's on the news ... I'll CHANGE the channel!! Thank goodness for Cable TV ... I can choose what I want to see!! Although he may be the leader of the US for the next 4 years (shudders) .. I'll never acknowledge him as 'my prez'!! That's JMHO!!

It's not about integrity or money; it's a high profile case of acceptance. He has not even started and wham! bam! be gone from our sight! No wonder I once heard that if Jesus comes back again, many would still reject him, again! Not implying anyone/anything mentioned. I think Trump may be the one who has the authority/power to finally end the devastating inhuman Syria/Iraq Wars. I'm also cautious from what I know so far about him, which is just a slice of the iceberg, the rest still lies beneath.

Yes, Adam has integrity, but more importantly, he has a highly functioning brain.

I live in NYC where Trump's name is synonymous with all things corrupt. His own city voted overwhelmingly against him, his support here was mainly from his fellow millionaire/billionaires whose entitlements he will protect.

Agree, we have more to fear from Paul Ryan.

Adam doesn't have to worry about being asked, he is not a big enough star. Trump has plenty of others who would be more than willing, who are huge A1 stars. I hope Adam will be concentrating on his album, and not worry about the inaugurations. I am glad to finally see a business man in office, it's long overdue. May be some of the corrupt politicians and enormous money spending will be curtailed. the LGBT will survive with or without Trump.

Anonymous8 said...

Anne Marie - glad to hear that. Perhaps you can relay this list of huge A1 stars to the Inauguration Committee as they have been unable to enlist any so far. Also NO DC HS marching band has requested to march.

Dee R Gee said...

I think on a previous thread, I mentioned Ted Nugent and Scott Baio as possibilities, but that's just a guess. Haven't seen any A1 stars in line for the job at this point.

Yeah!! Nothing like having another 'Hitler wannabe' as leader of our country!! Look what happened to Germany .. WWII .... I fear for the USA with Trump & his cronies at the helm!! BTW .. I read that Andrea Boccelli & some 16 y.o. former AGT female contestant are supposed to perform ... don't know if it's a done deal or just rumor ... could care less!! JMHO

LAMBERT Outlaw said...

Oh BTW .. I guess their enormous money spending is being 'curtailed' as we speak ... just got my SS amount for the coming year ... no increase ... just have to make do when the cost of living skyrockets ... but Mr. Wonderful is such a great businessman ... he has to start somewhere ... at least Obama used to throw us 2 or 3 bucks more every year!! Again that's JMH experience!! Can't work when you're over 80 y.o. so I guess it's off to the 'poor house' or worse!!

I read this morning that Jackie Evancko (sp.) from AGT and Bocelli have agreed to perform. I remember watching Jackie. I'm sure her voice is lovely. But at the time, watching a young girl sing opera was just creepy to me and I didn't like her personality. None of that has anything to do with politics, of course. I'm sure she has grown into a very nice person (and has put out a number of albums). And Bocelli is a wonderful opera singer, too.

The point is that when you agree to perform at the inauguration, you are, by association, agreeing with the politics of the new President. That's why the A-listers are keeping their distance. They don't want that association. Money isn't the issue, nor is "respect for the office." It's personal integrity, plain and simple.

Anne Marie said...

Everyone should stand by their convictions and not be swayed by other people. Right or wrong with who we voted in, we do have a right to vote for our own choice, without others dissing us. As I said earlier, I hope Adam will quit slamming Trump, and get on with his own life and career, which I believe is what we are all waiting for. I am looking forward to Adams album #4, and hope his 2017 will be a very successful year.

Nanbert said...

The truth is that.... ADAM WOULD NEVER BE INVITED, BECAUSE HE IS GAY!

Trump's intentions in that direction are OBVIOUS in his selection of stridently anti-gay rights Mike Pence as his running mate/VP.

Sad to think that so many gay rights advances will be rolled back... Gay marriage will probably be the first to fall.

Adam has good reason to dislike Trump... their philosophies are so divergent... and he has a perfect right to say so!

I agree with him wholeheartedly.

Anonymous8 said...

It appears that Adam was asked a question by media, and stood by his convictions and responded in his usual courteous manner. Query - please enlighten us as to where the "slamming" took place.

Adam is completely engaged and successful in "getting on with his own life and career". The fact that he expresses his political views on occasion is something I hope continues throughout his life. I don't think Adam or any of us feels that working on an album should preclude him from being a responsible citizen.

In response to comments above..

Adam Lambert is one of the hardest working people in ANY line of work that I "know". He is continually working on projects, and has had very little down time for the past several years.. He works incredibly hard and has said he has created some new music and will be working on more after the new year.. Most likely a new solo album but he has also said he will be releasing "something" new very soon, new single perhaps or ??? (more and more artists are releasing singles or even EP's before the official album comes along: it's the way music is being listened to now: streamed, not as often purchased as an entire album i.e. CD's are probably on the way out, with Spotify, Apple Music, etc.. etc.. taking over how we listen now, i.e. digitally, but I digress..).. We've heard about the possibility of a Queen + Adam Lambert music collaboration. We've heard from reliable sources i.e. Brian May.. that we will be seeing more of QAL next year, most likely touring, festivals, etc.. Adam has just finished up a HUGELY successful year in 2016, with scarcely a day off to relax, breathe, or to be home in LA for more than a brief stay. He is increasing his worldwide stardom and recognition by leaps and bounds. He undoubtedly has more projects under wraps that will be revealed as time goes by..

As for his political commentary, specifically in this case here, where he was directly asked a question, which he politely answered with tact and his own truth: we all have the right to an opinion, including Adam Lambert.. In the US we have the right to free speech, free expression. Many many celebrities from a wide range of fields (arts, music, theater, science, movies, ...politicians etc., etc.) have stated their own personal feelings about the election, both before and after. We all have our opinions which are being stated here on this thread today, and have been expressed on earlier thread topics of a similar nature, when Adam has expressed his opinion.. Adam has every right to speak out on whatever subject he choses to offer his thoughts, his opinions.. And to suggest that he stop doing so is, in my personal opinion, to put it mildly, unfair to him.

Adam is a multi-dimensional human being, just like we all are. I was first attracted to his voice, his talent, his sincerity, his humility and generosity that was evident on his American Idol stint in 2009. Almost 8 years later, I CONTINUE to be impressed with his honesty, integrity, and his willingness to speak out for justice and equality. His concerns match my own.. There have been times when I may not have agreed with him 100%, but those times are rare. I read extensively, I keep up with the news, politics, I try to see both sides of a story, of an issue. So many "fake news" stories have been out there this year, which have muddled and confused things even more.. I sadly have grave concerns about the next 4 years. I don't wish to get specific here but I can tell you that although we here in the US have indeed elected the next president there are many many citizens of this country and across the world who are hoping that this president-elect doesn't turn out to be a disaster.. in a number of areas and for a number of reasons..

Continue to speak out Adam when asked and when you feel it needs to be said.. Speak your mind and your heart.. The same goes for all of us here. We do not need to agree with each other but lets at least be respectful. Not only to each other but to Adam.

I would expect nothing less from Adam on this. Every once in a while you actually come across an entertainer that holds to principals that are more important than money. I'd think much less of him if he DID perform for Trump. In fact, I'd be highly disappointed. He's made a name for himself with opportunities that are palatable. Adam doesn't need the impression he would give by caving. Stay true to yourself, Adam.

Anne Marie said...

Mike Pence is a Christian, and his convictions, right or wrong , come from the bible, which I personally cannot dispute, because I believe in the teachings of the bible also. We all have a right to speak out, including Adam. Of course I can see Adams side of things, because he is gay, which is just a fact and not something he chose. He would not be true to himself, if he did not speak out, but a number of people are not in agreement with him, as is their right also. I will always wish him happiness in his life, and no one disputes how hard he works in his chosen field, that he loves, and is probably one of the best singers today in the business.

Artemis said...

There's always Kid Rock. Bawitdaba da bang danga diggy diggy. More Trump's style. Adam doesn't need that kind of exposure. He's doing just fine. Oh, and he also has a right to speak his mind about the orange man. You don't see the opposition holding back in their opinions.

Dee R Gee said...

Maybe Kanye could perform. He and Trump have met up recently and seem to be buddies. Mike Pence might be capable in a number of ways. I don't know. But I do know that he has said that he does not believe in evolution and he does believe in the validity of gay-conversion therapy. These beliefs concern me deeply, esp. in a person at such a high level.

glitzylady, thank you for your overview of Adam's recent past. He is definitely expanding his base of influence and gaining new fans. Things are looking very good for the next year or two! He has every right to stand up for his convictions, too.

I think it's too early to actually say what a president Trump will end up being because he hasn't effectivly taken office jet. His cabinet sofar is looking WILD from what I've heard and from my point of view it's not looking good. There is a saying "dogs that bark don't bite" I hope it abides in this case. In maybe six month we can say more on Trump as a president.

What has happened "under Trump" yet is that with what he sayed he reinforced people with such thinking and encuraged violence.
I don't wan't to be too quick with the Hitler comparisons and judge Trump prematurely but generalsing about a religious group/minorities and "building walls" sound's all to familiar form german history. Therefore I think Trump should be watched closely!
On the other hand I have "high hopes" for Syria when the US and Russian President meet which I don't think would have happened with Clinton.

I'd hate for the LBGQT community to have to fight for their hard fought rights AGAIN.

Yes everyone is entiteled to their opinion and should be free to express it but there is still no excues for discrimination and violence against others.

As for Adam I very much appreciate that he takes responsibility as a public figure and the message he puts out there, not just concerning this election.

Lam-My said...

As for me, I view Donald Trump as a person first but his larger-than-life status can't be ignored. Through his campaigns, election primaries and election speeches, I find him forthright, direct, not scared, and at times strangely funny especially his weird theatrics like the choking imitation of Mitt Romney and drinking water from a water-bottle, hitting at Marco Rubio who successfully got under his skin. lol!

Possessing authority is important to rule a huge powerful country, directly/indirectly affecting the world. If a President has very strong beliefs about issues concerning his people's safety, welfare, jobs, their very survival...he must have the utmost capacity to carry out those urgent, pressing issues; rather than floundering and haggling for approval to get things done and by which time, it may have gone out of control. Without this authority, capacity, capability... that to me constitutes weakness in the President/government, and who suffer most?...the very people who voted him into power.

I'm quite aware that unanimity has to be reached in Senate/Congress for bills to be passed, regarding poignant urgent issues...and precisely, this is where the President's authority takes the lead; with persuasion, reasoning, majority pulling in the same direction.
My lay-person analysis...65-35 success rating at this point, for Mr Trump's Presidency

Lam-My. This last comment has absolutely nothing to do with Adam. This is a thread about .Adam, not your political predictions. Of course you have every right to your opinion and I'm sure there are many Trump sites where you could comment. Please don't do it here. Thx and have a great night.

Who says this thread is not about political predictions? I see the Trump name right on the top of the thread! and he will be the President in a month's time, therefore the predictions!

Yes, glitzylady....this site is dedicated to, for and about Adam. His thoughts and concerns are important to us. Unfortunately, we do get side-tracked with our own opinions from time to time....and too often it gets rancorous, and too "preachy"....especially when it comes to politics. Lord knows, I am as guilty as the rest.

The wounds of the election are still too fresh for we citizens (all true Americans, in spite of who they voted for) to discuss things without getting upset.... so maybe we should all pull back a bit.

But it is especially inexcusable for those who did not vote in the election to gloat, bitch, complain, predict, or pontificate. We see it too often.

Adam must worry so much about the LBGT community's loss of ground, after they had made such strides in the recent years under Obama. We must all be prepared to support him/them in whatever way we can!

Peace all!

Lam-My said...

If you read carefully my comments, there is no gloating, preaching nor ramming things down people's throats, which you are so guilty of!! Why can't I comment on things related to Adam; and in this case he talked about Mr Trump's inauguration. I've followed him 6 years and he has performed in Singapore 5 times, once a year...more than in your city! for God's sake! He knows Singapore and we know him.
How you feel about the elections...does not give you the liberty to rant your anger/disappointment on me or anybody. Go fly a kite!

Nanbert said...

It is a documented fact that 50% of the eligible American voters DID NOT VOTE at all in the 2016 election!... absolutely inexcusable. Which means that Trump and Clinton divided the remaining 50% of voters between them... with Clinton receiving 2.8 million (at latest count) MORE popular votes than Trump.... even though Trump got more electoral votes.

That means that Trump received 2.8 million LESS than 25% of the TOTAL ELIGIBLE voters in the USA!

A lot of those "non-voters" have already been interviewed... they usually say they "didn't like either candidate".

Soon they'll start having all kinds of "opinions" which they have not earned the right to. It always happens. Inexcusable!

Dee R Gee said...

Thanks for putting it all in perspective, Nanbert. Trump did not get a mandate from the voters. Far from it. And as for the Electoral College, generally I have been a supporter of that system. tI helps equalize the voices of American voters from all regions of the country, large and small. BUT, I do not recall any other presidential election where the loser had as large a majority of the popular vote as Clinton did. It's astonishing. Trump got the electoral votes in the key states that made a difference in the electoral college. The majority of the actual voters did NOT vote for him. Personally, I don't feel as if "we" elected him. The majority of those who voted tried to prevent that very thing.

I know this thread is now buried and done, but I just wanted to respond.

Nanbert said...

Dee R Gee....you're welcome. What really galls me is that only a couple of days ago I saw Trump say (in a video interview) that his was a "landslide victory..the largest ever in the history of the U.S."!!!!!!

Dee R Gee said...

Yeah well, Donald says a lot of things that are easily refuted, based on no facts whatsoever. We just have to hope that we get through this without a major disaster.

Nanbert said...

Well, it appears so far that we (the USA) are being merged with Trump, Inc. enterprises.

Instead of "draining the swamp", Trump is "importing alligators" (as aptly put by one pundit)... or "bringing foxes into the henhouse" (as another pundit said).

Lam-My said...

I personally think Mr Trump won it fair and square!
At the start of any competition, a set of determiners/rules is set and agreed upon. It was explained very clearly that to win the Presidency, the candidate must acquire a minimum of 270 electoral votes; Hillary Clinton scored 232 which falls way short of 270. Mr Trump garnered 306 way above the 270 requirement. The entire election process rested on this criterion! and agreed upon from the start by all involved; you can't turn your back on what was agreed!

If indeed the Popular vote was part of the criteria, the strategies deployed would have been different by both sides...and Mr Trump might still have won, hypothetically.
So now, it isn't fair to bring up the Popular votes because it was never agreed upon by both parties or the whole election process that it was to be taken into consideration; unless if there was a tie, the Popular vote may be used as the determiner, it acted as a sort of safety-net, I think.

Unless you live in the USA, don't comment. I work in Washington, DC and morale is awful. A lot of people are losing their jobs, and people are still extremely depressed. I''vet never posted a mean comment of any of Adam's thread, but I'll make this one exception. Lam-My shut up, I'm sick of all your so called crappy, what you must think is poetry. It SUCKS

Nanbert said...

Allysa Mentor..agreed... on all points. Besides, "Fan Fiction" is really out-of-place here.

Sorry to hear about morale in D.C... it's like that here among my friends and family, too.

IT'S CRUEL for outsiders to come in with unwelcome, long-winded comments about our country's internal affairs.

If they actually "cared" about their fellow Glamberts' feelings -- OR ADAM'S...they would refrain from doing that.

Lam-My said...

Yes, I hope Mr Trump is able to make America great again but I have much apprehension about that; particularly, with people like the two highly-strung, intimidated individuals above who seem so scared and cornered! You might have to start with their minds first! As for creating jobs, that too I'm apprehensive; can they handle highly sophisticated jobs and produce top-quality products to compete with the world...with people like above who blow up so uncontrollably when they don't get what they want. Not able to accept defeat and spew their hatred just to elevate their own position to get even with their loss! Highly despicable!
Wish you well Mr Trump and Team...you have a noble cause to pursue...what the outcome may be, I can't tell...perhaps only in a year or two.

By the way, this is an international site! Thank you Admin and AdminFan for your open-mindedness in your publishing of writings/comments by all who come to this welcoming watering-hole!
The two rather frightened people above are trying to curb freedom of thought and expression. It's not in my nature to put people down and so have not targetted any one not even the Losers; just laying down some bare facts which the two above can't handle. Thank you.

Nanbert said...

See how one "CARES" for fellow Glambert's feelings!...and Adam's?

A Foreign National, asked to stop commenting on our American politics in consideration of American Glamberts'feelings... instead goes immediately into "attack mode" and engages in the most JUVENILE of character assassinations --in classic bully mode.... grade school style.

This is an international Adam Lambert site--yes---but not anyone's private bully pulpit. Adam has made known HIS opinions about the election of Trump--- and WE ARE AGREEING WITH HIM!

Therefore, ALL THE INSULTS and NAME-CALLING above...automatically include Adam and ALL other Glamberts of the SAME opinion.

Those American Glamberts who favor Trump are, of course, ALWAYS welcome to voice their opinions. This is THEIR country, too.... THEIR right to comment and discuss.

Since they mean so much to you, however, I will be happy to print this out, and personally
will autograph it for you as a keepsake to keep with my other bon mots. Send me your address, and I'll even include it with a Christmas card.

In the meantime, let me suggest that you try a little kindness for a change. There is no need to impose your adulation of Trump on fellow Glamberts who are hurting after the elections... especially on Adam's website, because he is hurting, too.

It's a small favor on your part to refrain from extolling the virtues of your idol, Trump, when it is requested of you by Glamberts...as you have no stake in the election---or this country.

It seems that a simple courtesy to fellow Glamberts would be to get off the campaign trail and find a new hobby.

Your suggestion is perfect! Kite flying is fun and healthy. Try it, you'll see.
