I'm sure Adam has made Roger's last few birthdays extra special, by enabling him to continue performing his (Queen's) music to huge sold-out arenas all over the world. What a turn-on!
Just thinking....Queen's music is so embedded in Adam now that it's like breathing. Roger's thunderous, but also finely nuanced, drumming provides the scaffolding for Queen's music, and is reflected in every movement of Adam's body during performances.
It is on Roger's "scaffolding" that the intricate melodies and harmonies by Brian, Adam, Spike and Neil are supported, framed and showcased for all to enjoy.
Adam's voice soars with Brian's guitar....but his body dances to Roger's drums...a perfect symbiosis! IMO.
A drummer is the metronome. A drummer is the backbone. A drummer is the studs in a room before you put the walls up. Nanbert, you named it perfectly. It's scaffolding. A drummer holds it all together so things don't fall apart in disarray. I took drum lessons some years back and could play a pretty mean riff. I was never in a band but I played along with my favorite music. I still have my drum kit. Even my kids thought I was pretty good. I've always been fascinated with the drummer's role in a band. The drummer is the powerful glue.
Exactly, Dee R Gee....and Roger is so versatile. Sometimes, I listen hard to isolate his sound, and marvel at the detail and variety of his drumming, and how much he flavors each song....not just keeping time, but building sound and substance and mood.
