HOT OFF THE PRESSES!

ABC will air a two-hour special,
"The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story,"
on Monday, April 29th, 8:00pm-10:00pm EST/PST!

Here is the press release as printed on the Queen website, which includes photo credited to Miracle Productions, the company producing the special:

On the heels of Queen and Adam Lambert’s show-stopping opening performance at the Oscars on Sunday, February 24, Lincoln Square Productions has acquired the U.S. television rights to a documentary from Miracle Productions on the iconic band and their new regular frontman, Adam Lambert. Produced by Jim Beach and acclaimed writer and filmmaker Simon Lupton, “The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story” airs MONDAY, APRIL 29 (8:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET) on the ABC Television Network, prior to Queen and Lambert’s already sold-out July/August 2019 U.S. “Rhapsody” tour.

With rare concert footage and exclusive, revealing portraits of the band members off-stage, “The Show Must Go On” chronicles Queen and Lambert’s incredible journey since they first shared the stage together on “American Idol” in 2009. From his humble beginnings and meteoric rise on reality TV to now standing center stage as lead singer of Queen + Adam Lambert, the documentary features brand new interviews with Lambert, his parents Leila and Eber and Queen founding members Brian May and Roger Taylor, as well as “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell, Golden Globe (and Oscar) winner for Best Actor, “Bohemian Rhapsody”’s Rami Malek and Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins.
Queen remain vanguards of rock in the 21st century. They scored their first #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1980 and soared through that decade performing in stadiums, including their landmark 1985 performance at Live Aid which was seen by 3 billion people worldwide. Freddie Mercury died of AIDS in 1991 and a star-studded tribute concert the following year was thought to be the conclusion of Queen live.

“The Show Must Go On” simultaneously follows the ensuing 17 years. Lambert, starting at the age of 10, is beginning to come of age, discovers his love of music and finds a voice of his own while, across the pond, the surviving members of Queen see their songs remain staples with DJ’s, in clubs, in theatres around the globe with their hit musical “We Will Rock You” and in movies. Lambert and Queen intersected in spectacular fashion when Lambert first performs with the band, singing “We Are the Champions” as one of only two finalists on Season 8 of “American Idol.” The public reaction was remarkable and first seeded the idea that perhaps Lambert might become a permanent fixture in the Queen family. In 2012 Queen + Adam Lambert was born. To date Queen + Adam Lambert have performed together in nearly 200 sold-out shows in arenas and stadiums across the world. “The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story” is produced by Simon Lupton and Jim Beach for Miracle Productions and Matt Lombardi is executive producer for Lincoln Square Productions.

ABOUT LINCOLN SQUARE PRODUCTIONS ABC News’ Lincoln Square Productions produces original content for broadcast, cable and digital distribution specializing in compelling ways to tell fact-based stories, including ABC’s “What Would You Do? and “In An Instant,” the thought-provoking docu-series “The Last Defense” from Viola Davis, John Ridley’s critically-acclaimed documentary on the LA Riots “Let It Fall,” the “Madoff” miniseries starring Richard Dreyfuss, the “Oscars® Opening Ceremony: Live From the Red Carpet” and Investigation Discovery’s “Barbara Walters Presents,” as well as documentary programming for a wide array of partners, including PBS, Discovery Communications and A & E Networks. Lincoln Square Productions is wholly-owned by the American Broadcasting Companies, Inc. and is a part of ABC News’ Long Form programming unit, which includes “20/20,” “Truth and Lies” and “Nightline.” The headquarters are located in New York City’s Lincoln Square neighborhood.

ABOUT MIRACLE PRODUCTIONS Miracle Productions was formed specifically for the tour of Queen + Adam Lambert and is based in the UK. “The Show Must Go On” is its first production for global television.

ABOUT ADAM LAMBERT After blowing everyone away on the eighth season of American Idol, Adam Lambert went on to release his debut album ‘For Your Entertainment’ which included the international hit ‘Whatya Want From Me’ and earned him a Grammy Award nomination. Adam followed this success with his second album ‘Trespassing’ which became the first album to reach the number one spot in the US and Canada by an openly gay artist. His highly anticipated third album ‘The Original High’ was executive produced by Max Martin and Shellback and included the smash hit ‘Ghost Town’. Adam joined the cast of Glee for a six-episode story in 2013 and performed the role of Eddie in Fox’s The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He went on to judge on The X Factor Australia where his artist, Isaiah, won the show. 2019 will see Adam releasing his fourth album, and also exploring the world of film, voicing character 'Emperor Maximus' in upcoming animated-live action hybrid movie ‘Playmobil: The Movie’. His new song ‘Feel Something’ came out on February 22nd.

SO EXCITED...!!!!! What an incredible year for Adam so far -- and we're only in February! Can't wait..!!!

Two hours of people talking about Adam Lambert? Is this real life? Or is it a fantasy???

Dee R Gee said...

I have been so busy all day. Been hours since I logged in here.

AND NOW I SEE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A two-hour documentary of Queen and Adam Lambert! Have I died and gone to heaven?

Wonder how long they had this in the works? Wow. A Million Times WOW!

Lynn said...

I am so glad about all of this. The only thing I can think of to say is, 'IT'S ABOUT TIME. We Glamberts have been waiting for this type of recognition for him. Onwards and upwards.

Patria said...

Maybe Adam will release his new album right after this. Fingers crossed.

Dee R Gee said...

I think the timing of the special is perfect for the release of Adam's new music. Sounds like a master plan to me!

Nanbert said...

O-o-o-o-o-oh, be still my heart! My fondest dream will come true! This is a perfect time for such a special.....hard on the heels of "Bohemian Rhapsody" and all its recognition. When all the world is wondering how, what, why, when--- about the interim between Freddie's death and the amazing juggernaught of Queen and Adam Lambert that rose from the ashes to being the best in the world...again!...and to prove it on the Oscars!

This can be just as gripping a story as "Bohemian Rhapsody", albeit made for TV....(and later available in DVD?) And they have SO much great footage available already!

Actually, this is a very LOGICAL NEXT STEP in Queen's and Adam's stories...separately and together....basically a sequel to "Bohemian Rhapsody"-- which should bring Brian and Roger (and the other bandmembers) to the forefront...OUT of Freddie's shadow finally...and Adam, too...

I hope the producers are up to it! It has all the makings of a great documentary! But there's so much to cover in only 2 hours! Oh my!

There's plenty of footage of Adam leading thousands of QAL fans..waving, cheering, singing, swaying along with QAL performances.... that rivals Freddie's storied Live Aid performance at Wembley. Certainly Bryan and Roger know that. Even if it's not spoken...showing it is self-evident....that they are as good as ever (maybe better)...and Adam can dominate/charm an audience as well as Freddie could.

And I hope they gather together all the "full circles"(to date) in Adam's life.

Sorry, I'm so excited and long-winded! I hadn't come down from the Oscars high....and now this fabulous news! I'm getting too old for all this excitement!

Sue Smith said...

I saw the view this morning a little of it. They were arguing about no host this thst and the other. The blonde woman said there should have been more Adam Lambert.they said yea high energy.
Then she said I fell asleep after Adam Lambert. She said I liked Adam Lambert should have been more of him.
This is unbelievable and Adam deserves every second of it ai does Queen men.
The word needed to use was that.

Kathy said...

Nanbert, you said it all for me. And yes about time. It just keeps getting better and better.

Glamitup said...

Hot damn!!!! Great, fabulous news!!!!

Magiclady said...

It is so wonderful to keep having these surprises from Adam. This has been such a great last few days. Oscar performance, first song from new album, now a documentary about him and Queen!
Hope they keep coming and I think Adam's star will continue to shine and rise.

Sunflower said...

Yaaaas!!! I've been waiting for something like this! I am NOT leaving my house that day, even if it's a beautiful sunshiny day. QAL are my priority! What a surprise! Nanbert you made me laugh by saying " I'm getting too old for this"! Hahaha Another thing is that all the " haters and trolls" are going to go insane, pull their hairs out, bang their heads on the table etc.", I'm just saying. I heard that the ratings for the Oscars were up, haven't check the numbers but sounds good to me. Oh Happy Day!!!

Sue Smith said...

This is what I have been waiting for as well. So thrilled about it I just cant stand it. Adam deserves this so much so does Queen. About time. Lot of good things coming to Adam no one deserves it more. Keep streaming the single please.

Anne Marie said...

I am so excited with this news. It explains why Queen would not release any cd's of the tours. They must have been thinking about this for several years as Adam became more of a fixture of the team. I know we always considered him to be an A lister, but he himself said he was a B lister. I think now we truly have a world wide super star. Glamberts always thought so, but now we might have a super star recognized by the world. This has already been his year, and it's only February. I wondered, when he referred to his dark time, if the lack of world wide recognition might have had a play in it, along with not being in a personal relationship for a few years. I am wishing it was April already, but I am too old to start wishing time away, LOL. I must be patient like the rest of you., no choice. I wonder how long Adam has known about the documentary, or if it was news for him too. They must have been working on it already for quite a while, and Adam might not have known. Brian is quite capable of keeping it a secret.

Sue Smith said...

Me myself and I are getting to old for this excitement but it sure feels great. So happy for that sweet dude.

Patria said...

I'm too old but not for any excitement Adam dishes out. He keeps me young and makes me want to stay around to see and hear all I can from his life.

Dee R Gee said...

Wouldn't it be great if Adam got the attention of SNL again? His profile should be pretty high in the coming few months. He's make a great SNL host! He would do any ridiculous skit they might throw at him. He's funny and fearless and smart.

I wish they'd give him another look. The time seems right.

Patria said...

I don't ever watch SNL. All I ever see reported are the political skits.

Nanbert said...

Why is Lambert Outlaw not here to share all this with us? She would be eating this up! I don't REALLY know her....only through her "disembodied" comments....but sometimes that's enough.

Nanbert said...

hahahaha....Dee R Gee...it's a good thing you aren't Adam's agent! You'd have him hosting several programs, guesting on the rest, singing duets with everybody, and worn to a frazzle!
You're even more ambitious for him than he is! In other words, you're a GLAMBERT! LOL

broddybounce said...

Dee, I can't agree more -- although the quality of SNL's skits has been in the dumps for quite awhile (except, perhaps, as Patria indicated, the political openers, as well as Weekend Update, which is at one of its best points with Colin Jost & Michael Che), there is still tremendous cache being a musical guest on the show and I, too, have been waiting, watching and hoping all these years for SNL to recognize Adam as being "legit" to put on (WE all know he is well ready to be on the show!). Only thing is, he probably needs to have a hit with his new album, which is usually the key to unlock the door (Ghost Town should have done that -- heck, WWFM should have! -- but... oh, well!). The only other way, of course, for Adam to be on: Q+AL. Although now that they're doing this gig with ABC, not sure SNL would have them on. We shall see!

Rosemary White said...

I've been out of the loops for a couple of days but YESSSSSSSSSSS, there is a God .... Bohemian Rhapsody won 4 of the 5 categories it was nominated for including Rami for Best Actor for his SUPERB portrayal of Freddie Mercury!!!!!!!! So happy for all the BoRhap team and especially for Rami. Such a joy for him. Shame about BoRhap not winning the Best Picture category but being nominated for it was wonderful. I think the negative comments made about the film by some critics were totally unwarranted and unnecessary.

Now a documentary to look forward to about Queen and Adam.

Nanbert, Queen didn't rise from the ashes when Adam came along. From 2004, they recorded and performed/toured with Paul Rodgers of Bad Company (rock group) fame. They parted company without animosity in 2009 ... & then came Adam. Details of Queen's association with Paul Rodgers are on Queen's wikipedia page.

It’s gonna be a long post. I’m so disappointed in Glamberts. Apparently most of Adam’s fans are much older than me so maybe it’s all about age gap. I always thought that being older means being wiser but not in this fan base. I don’t know why most of you don’t allow other people to have their own opinions especially if that opinions are negative towards Adam. Why do you post comments or report negative comments on Javi’s ig?He isn’t famous. You don’t know him but you
know he’s smart, kind, intelligent etc. Glamberts know everything and everybody. Shocking that you didn’t know about Adam’s depression. I like him he seems to be a good, kind person with huge heart and voice although I don’t like his new song. Glamberts love everything what Adam sings even though it’s a crap. ‘Feel something’ - so disappointed, simple lyrics, music more close to dance music. Only piano, maybe with violin could do wonders with this song. Adam isn’t a songwriter or composer. He’s a great singer and he should focus on that. He’s amazing with Queen because they have great songs. For me his solo music is like a church without God in it or like human without soul. It’s depressing that he couldn’t write the whole song by himself he always has to relay on others people composers talents. I wonder if his friends are more like most of the Glamberts.

I went to You Tube this morning. There have been 6,386,581 views of the Oscar performance. That really says something doesn't it. There are still a few people bringing up Marc Martel, but very few now. Most comments are about how good this performance was and there was a lot praise for Adam. Most people don't really give enough praise to Brian and Roger as to how good they still sound. The whole band is terrific and they make a great team. Amen LOL

Mi Re La said...

I noticed that Lambert outlaw and Lam-My have been missing for a long time.I hope both are OK

Mi Re La said...

ElEvans, all singers compose songs in collaboration with others. A song needs a lot. (instruments, lyrics, sound mix).No one can do it all alone.Even the great Freddie when he tried to make some solo albums did not have the same success he had with Brian, Roger and John Feel Something has many positive reviews on Youtube and is number 6 on America's itunes. In concerts with Queen Adam he also sang songs from his albums. If the songs were of no value, Brian and Roger would not have played them
If you do not like Adam's songs, you're not a Glambert, maybe just a Queenbert. This blog is dedicated to Adam and here you will meet 99% positive comments about Adam.
It is normal that Adam's fans did not know about his depression. Even when you live with someone in the same house you do not know exactly what's in his soul

Glamitup said...

Yes everyone is entitled to their own opinions but this site is for hard core fans of Adam’s who for the most part, love everything the man does. We are not here to debate the negative that a couple bring into the group. If you bring so much negative, I will take it upon myself to say you are not welcome here. The world is getting to be such a crazy place. This is a place I can visit for my calm. Adam brings that to me. Please don’t come with hate in your heart for a man who is nothing but kind. My name is Glamitup and I stick by my post. I love you Adam. You bring joy into my life every day.

ElEvans said...

That's why I think Adam should
have a band and stop being solo artist. I'm def not Glambert, Queenbert more likely.

i don't like hard core fans. Constructive criticism is healthy.

I am so excited about this documentary for Adam I can barely get it off my mind. My plan is to turn the ringers off on my land line telephone and turn off my cell. I will also be hanging a Do Not Disturb sign on my front door. Adam will officially be entrenched in the history of Queen as he should be for reviving them to new heights. YES!!!

I have mistakenly deleted the comment above. I'm posting again to understand ElEvans's answer.

ElEvans, Adam is not the only one who makes songs with the help of others. This is an example "Shallow" from A Star Is Born, with music and lyrics by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt

About "Feel Something" and radio play, the question posed by @Glamitup (and a couple of other thoughts...):

"Feel Something" is not an official single so is not being promoted by the label to radio. I have no doubt that some smaller independent & internet stations may play it but Top 40 stations will most likely not play it. But it could happen. As we know, there are protocols etc. in the business of music and radio etc.. so his expectation I would assume is that it will not get extensive radio play.

As we recall, Adam said it was on the new album but he released it earlier for his fans in particular as a thank you for all of our support for him and his career. And the words of the song expressed what he's been going through, the turmoil and emotions, his depression, and his eventual coming to terms with it.. In his recent letter to fans, and with with song,he just needed to let us know he's doing better and he loves us. As we love him for who he is and what he has given us over the years.

And for @ElEvans: most of Adam's fans are not living in a "fantasy world" as you put it in a comment. We are supportive of Adam in so many ways. He has fans of all ages. Most are thoughtful, caring, intelligent people who have regular day to day lives, who do not leave rude comments on blogs or on his Instagram page etc. (I'm not directing this comment to you personally, by the way i.e. rude comments etc..). There are fans in every fandom who are over the top protective. I tend to ignore those fans, as I suspect Adam does.. I hope so anyway..). We honestly did not have a clue that Adam was going through the self doubt, the questioning of his place in the world, his depression that he spoke of. He is a fairly private person who doesn't share everything on Twitter, on Facebook, on Instagram, as it should be. He stays in a "professional" mode most of the time. And only sometimes shares his truly inner self, his inner life, his private life with us. He used to be much more open earlier on but as happens with most people new to celebrity life and status he realized that he needed to protect his privacy. And he does to a great extent. I'm not just guessing about what I'm saying. He has over time stated those things. Particularly after his painful breakup with Sauli. He has not announced a new relationship as yet. We are only making assumptions about Javi Costa Polo at this point in time.. We'll wait and see where this all goes. My only wish for Adam to be honest, is that he finds happiness, fulfillment in his career and in his private life.

I do not profess to "know" Adam. I only know him from his music, what I have read (or seen or heard) about him in interviews over the years. I've been a fan since I first saw him on Idol in 2009. I'm a long term fan, but I don't consider myself a "hard core" fan in that I don't necessarily agree with everything he has said or done over the years. But I support him and his right to express himself in his own ways, including thorough his music. In ways that work for him. His life, his artistry, his choice.

I do like his new song but I also have high hopes that his first single, which we will be hearing before too long, is even more compelling and as the phrase goes, radio friendly. Meaning that it has a "hook" that draws people in, and is a track that radio will feel confident in playing.

I hope that Adams New music comes and soon. I thought that the irony about the iTunes charts was that queens music and asib music got such a boost from the Oscars and took up so many places on the charts that "Feel Something" dropped . Makes one wonder that the exposure of the Oscars didn't reflect more glory on Adams music past and present.

Nanbert said...

First...Mirela, I believe you located a GEM ( see above Feb.26, 2:38 am comment) in that link to the Vimeo video. I agree that there's no question it must be somehow related to the upcoming "The Show Must Go On" documentary...and it's even under the same name.

Also, there is some discussion (above) about Adam writing his own music vs. collaborating with others. First of all, one can be a superb singer without being a good songwriter...those TWO DIFFERENT talents do not necessarily co-exist in the same person. Why should it matter? Good music is good music.

ElEvans ...One person's "constructive criticism" is another's busybody-ism! I think the best rule of thumb is to not say anything about Adam (and his friends) that you would not say TO Adam when standing face to face with him. That narrows things down very quickly!

ElEvans said...

I’m a straight forward person so I would say all of this to him.

Sue Smith said...

Adam made it perfectly clear this song was a thank you to his real fans of which ElEvans is not. This person has never said a kind thing about Adam like I have pointed out before. In fact has said quite nasty comments. I've tangled with this one before. However this one is not worth my time.
I happen to love Feel Something. However he made it plain it's not the official single that will be promoted TV ect. The label will support I am sure the official single. Which should be out soon.
The Oscar's promoted Queens music so it's no wonder it's going up. The official will be promoted by TV ect. To keep it up on the charts.
I to am worried about LambertOuylaw and Lam-my I sure hope they steal ok.
Got go tomorrow for a back procedur so tired of all these tests and procedures.
We should all be so grateful for all that going on for Adam so happy for him. A 2 Hour special The SMGO and know all of Adam's Fans are. There is much great tjings coming that he will and his label promote. Adam said himself it is going to be a great two months and beyond that and a year beyond that. Correction I am also worried about Lambett Outlaw and Lam-my .
I agree will all of Adam's faithful fans above and Nanbert. Nothing wrong with being supportive fans if you dont like that this site is probably not the place for you.

Sue Smith said...

If you are so direct then you should go to his direct twitter account and say it instead of what you say on here.

You obviously can’t read with understanding what you are reading. I wrote that Adam is kind, talented etc. Thanks for your advice I will tell him everything as soon as I meet him.

Sue Smith said...

ElEvans I understand you perfectly. I dont believe people who talk out of both sides of their mouth. I know the nasty things you said in the past and today. A couple of nice things thrown in to the crap pot will not over turn that.
That single was a thank you to fans. Also showing what he went through and came out of it all.He will have an have an official single out soon. Thst will be promoted on TV ect. As always and supported by his label
He said there was alot to come next two months and way beyond.
HE sang Queen songs at the Oscar's that why those songs coming up. Very good things coming. A 2 hour special of just Queen and Adam this time around on ABC. So wonderful.

A friendly reminder from a blog admin 😊..

It’s fine that not everyone agrees with each other here. It’s also understandable that not everyone is enthusiastic about one song or another. For instance Adams new song. It’s okay. We all have our preferences. That’s what music is all about: something for everyone.

Let’s try to keep our discussions here pleasant and respectful..

Sue Smith said...

GL the person has said awful things about Adam in the past and now today. It's ok to have an opinion never heard a real one that is not laced with nastiness from ElEvans. Never one decent comment for Adam has come from this person and mighty nasty ones have.
I've tried hard to ignore people like this. But on this occasion I cant take back. Saying a couple nice things laced with meanness is far from genuine.
I'll try and ignore this one in the future. But this person needs to be more respectful of Adam and others on this site as well as any of us do. It's not fair we have to put up with that opinion or not. By the way I love the new song. Cant wait for the official one we can see on TV as well. So proud of Adam. There not many celebs as genuine and kind hearted as Adam. He deserves better on his own site.

Sunflower said...

Figures there has to be a Debbie Downer, but to each their own! I too like "Feel Something", I think it's a pretty song and can't wait to hear his official single as well as his new album. I believe it's not Adams fault he's not more recognized, or lack of huge hit songs because he has recorded several amazing songs from his three albums that deserved radio play! I put the blame on his past management, record labels who DID NOT do their job in promoting their client! That's what I would call crap, an injustice to a talented artist, that IS A SHAME! I hope and pray that Empire record label/company /distributor WILL support Adam with and in everything! That is what Adam needs. Now to release that perfect song for radio play will require luck but I have faith and confidence he'll be back on the radio! Oh yeah and that the record company will have all the radio stations play his music on the hour, every hour just like the other artists, to which was my complaint. When Ghost Town came out, I didn't hear it much on the radio, it made my blood boil and everyone else's music was played over and over all day, I thought SO UNFAIR to Adam! So Adam would need even more exposure than ever, so he can become a "household name"! Sigh

Sue Smith said...

All the TV he been on and more to come all so will help that house hold name.
I believe he has a good manager now as well. So I agree Sunflower. Got get up very early with no sleep a long ways to the pain doctor.

Rosemary White....you're quite right about the timing. I am well aware of the Paul Rogers period with Queen. However, by all accounts that was not a very successful...or satisfying... collaboration. Evidentally, their musical styles were just too different.

By the time Queen encountered Adam, the collaboration between them and Paul Rogers was ended, and the mighty tour staging equipment, lighting and machinery was effectively in mothballs (or "ashes"!- poetic license on my part above, LOL) and Brian and Roger both said more than once in interviews that they had realized, and come to terms with, that they would not be touring again....and were not looking for a frontman.

And then Adam turned up, and Brian and Roger's juices started flowing when they realized that he had the exact talent and MAGIC needed to raise up the mighty sleeping Queen again. They were correct, and not only has he exceeded their expectations--- but they have continued to get bigger and better with every concert.... and sell out every tour!

Therefore, I likened it to the Phoenix rising out of the "ashes" legend ----which sounds classier than Phoenix rising out of the "mothballs", don't you think? LOL
