Soyon An was the head designer for season eight of American Idol and is still working for the show next season. She was interviewed by Glamour magazine and not surprising, her favorite contestant to work with was Adam Lambert! Here is what she had to say about Adam and his fashion style.
STF: So, how does it work with American Idol? The kids wear their own clothes for the first bit and then you start working with them as time goes on?
SA: I consult them when they get into the top 36 and they show me what’s in their suitcases and I say 'um, oh my gosh no," or 'okay, that's fine.' I'll send them out to the Beverly Center to buy a few things and then we will rework them. Those Idol kids come from all kinds of places, and I don’t want to scare them. They have to be able to visualize it, to understand my vision, or they'll just be afraid of what I have in mind.
STF: Who was the most fun for you to work with? Anyone who had a very clear vision of what they wanted their image to be?
SA: Well obviously Adam. He had it going on from day one. We had this really funny conversation and long story short, he was kind of giving me some critiques of the other contestants and I said, ‘your style is pretty defined. I’m sure when you were 18 years old, you went through your own trials and errors to figure out who Adam Lambert was.’ I was like, let that happen. But he already knew exactly what he wanted.
STF: So was it a collaborative thing between you two, or was he like 'this is what I want!'?
SA: It was definitely a collaborative between me and Adam because I would bring something in and then we'd rework it together. On tour he’s wearing this amazing blue leather jacket…it was a black jacket from Skin Graft, his favorite company, that we painted midnight blue. And then we went back and forth with a lot of drafts and added rhinestones and metalwork and he'd tell me he wanted more rhinestones, and eventually we came up with the perfect jacket.

I agree with Ulli. Adam looked great throughout the whole show. I'm just glad that it worked out for both of them. I agree with the designer that Adam had a clear vision on who he wanted to be and who he was in terms of looks and fashion. I'm glad she gave Adam nods on his styles.
omg omg this is amazing. !!!
