Dear Adam Lambert Fans: Chill Out!

Earlier today, we posted an article with the headline "Adam Lambert Rips Into Susan Boyle." *

Did we aim to capture the attention of readers with it? Of course. Did we then explain the situation - in which Lambert referred to Boyle's album as "terrible," laughed about her single "Wild Horses" and then said he was misquoted, while not providing his real quote - in great detail? Yes.

Did Lambert fans seem to care about the latter point? Not one bit.

The instant they saw one negative word written about Adam, his supporters went off. They told us we were being unfairly critical of the singer; that he was entitled to his opinion; that we were fueling the hate against him.

(* Through a debate with Lambert fans that we greatly appreciate, we changed this headline because we now agree it was unnecessarily inflammatory.)

Because we now feel as though we've been unfairly criticized, especially in light of the positive Lambert articles we've written for months, allow us to respond to each of these points:

* Adam is a mega celebrity. Every word he utters will be scrutinized. As such, he should have realized that his labeling of Boyle's album as "terrible" would result in the stir it's created. We simply pointed that out.
* Of course Lambert is entitled to his opinion. And we're entitled to respond to it with ours. This is the basis for all celebrity gossip sites, television reviews, movie reviews and pretty much every editorial ever written.
* Aside from those that simply don't have a taste for his music, people hate Adam Lambert for one reason: he is a proud, gay man. These critics are homophobes. We will never cater to them, we will only pity them and nothing we say will ever change their minds.

While we admire Lambert's fans for their enthusiasm and dedication, we sometimes feel as though they treat Adam like he's a child in need of their immediate, undying defense.

Lambert would be the first to tell them thank you... but calm down. He's not a saint. He's just a regular person. That's really Adam's main appeal: he's a normal guy that is open to discussing his sexuality and appreciates the opportunity he's been given.

But he may say a dumb thing or two. He may release a single we dislike. When that happens, we're gonna call Adam out on it. Are readers entitled to get mad at us for it? Absolutely.

We just fear they're defending Adam, almost coddling him, in a way he wouldn't appreciate. He's never asked for any special treatment. We're sure he wants nothing more than to be analyzed and written about like any artist out there.

This may result in some people hating him, and that's okay. It also may result in some of his biggest followers - like the THG staff - taking issue with a few of his decisions. Not only do we think this is also okay, we think it's exactly what Adam would want.

The article seems very unbalanced and defensive. Yes, we do care about the latter point which is you haven't provided the real quote.

The writer of this article admits they wrote it to get attention, misquoted him and then admitted they still haven't provided little detail of the real quote while Adam
s still being bashed.

So yeah, Adam's fans are going to try to set the record straight since they don't. And for them to turn it around and rip on the fans who who have to defend Adam because they don't set their own misquote straight is low, imo.

To add to the above, this article is just self-serving.

Wow, that was pretty unethical of the Hollywood gossip. I won't trust their headlines now.

I really hate how if Adam or any celebrity in general, looks a certain unique way or becomes completly honest with whatever they talk about, the damn media has to make them seem like low life assholes.
He was being completly honest and if people how a problem with a few damn words he said then they can shove it up to where the sun dont shine.

Poeple over judge celebs and its unfair.

Why do I feel I've been scolded? Bottomline is that Adam is entitled to express his opinion. He didn't call her a stupid untalented bi*ch like I would probably do, but he called her album terrible. This is his opinion, and believe it or not HollywoodGossip, I came to the same conclusion way before I heard Adam's comment.

Adam is a work in progress and soon--very soon--he'll become the robot always saying the "right thing" and lose all his honesty of expression. Don't worry Hollywood Gossip, it's coming. Yes, he's in the public limelight, so everything he says--or doesn't say--gets amplified. Why don't you stick to Brad and Angie and see if you can facilitate their divorce!! Scumbags...

Susan Boyle's album is not terrible...it's different. People like it well enough that it outsold every other album. It is another offering...something we can listen to when we want to be soothed. Sometimes Kesha and Lady Gaga get to be too much for the nerves to take!
So ease up on the poor woman.

I say this as a fan, but.. Mega Celebrity? Madonna is a Mega Celebrity, Adam is not. Yet.

Ride Adam's coattails much... your blog is garbage

Adam is HOTT NOW. Madonna, not so much.

Step back and look at this. Susan sold millions of albums, Adam sold 500,000. Why should anyone care what he says about her? Most of all her, she can laugh at his comments all the way to the bank.

I really think Adam would just say about ALL of this...."It isn't that deep"....quit taking him so seriously

Either Adam has been misquoted or he has a big mouth...which one is it?

Step OFF when you criticize Adam's fans. We do NOT "coddle" Adam. We ADORE him-no harm there. Freedom of speech works BOTH way negative and POSITIVE-gossip rags that misquote or exaggerate SHOULD be called out.

The HollywoodGossip mag is dissing Adam's fans? Are they for real? I mean your mag is nothing short of ignorant. You can't have your cake and eat it too. So on one hand you say something out of context about Adam, the fans don't care for the lie and so you change the title to the article, then you berate his fans for defending him? Hollywood Gossip, how about you like get a life and actually report on the truth!

The point is the headline is what went viral. It was even discussed on The View, a program that always gets off on some kind of inflammatory statements. Is Adam actually on tape saying what he is accused of? If not, what exactly DID he say and under what circumstances? The headline got them what they wanted and then some. I don't think any of Adam's fans object to the TRUTH being told, good or bad. It would be refreshing, though, if you could just stick to that.

Hmmm inflamatory headlines bring out the bashers, bashers bring out the fans to defend - so maybe they should try not using inflammatory headlines!!

They were absoulutely right about the behaviour of his fans. Claymates, Glamberts, Sparkle Cows, whatever his group are called, all were smacked with the stick of crazy. I'm a fan too, but I stay away from most fan boards because a lot of them are psycho and will jump down someone's throat for having a different opinion. Chill out you guys...its not that deep. Adam is not God, he's a newbie, he should be a little more careful over what he says. Look where it landed Kanye West. And he's been around much longer, sold more and had more hit songs.

Not all of Adam's fans are wacked out crazies, though some are, which is why I no longer frequent the AO board. You're right in that those particular people DO jump down your throat if you dare have a thought that doesn't fall into the zombie groupthink. HOWEVER, that doesn't excuse the Hollywood Gossip for irresponsible reporting for the sake of causing a frenzy. I STILL don't know what Adam really said, whether it was off the record, whether it was recorded on tape, or whether it was meant in the way it's being portrayed. I personally think Ms Boyle's album is not appealing, nor is it reflecting of individual style or originality. However, it's not my kind of music and I recognize that it IS other people's kind of music. Adam, like myself, is entitled to his opinions, even if he thinks Kesha is actually talented, but this should be a lesson to him to be careful of whom he says what to in an interview. He's fair game to these people, and he shouldn't trust that what might be said off the cuff won't be repeated and/or paraphrased in an erroneous way.
