Adam Lambert may have ruined American Idol. Even the most hardcore Idol fans feel a sense of let down with this year's crop of average singers.
A year ago this week Lambert tore the house down with his version of Black or White.
This year, some of the Idol contestants are good, but no one - no one - can touch Adam Lambert.
Regardless of whether one likes Adam Lambert, it's safe to say that his stage presence and live performances blow away everyone on the Idol stage this season.
It's not even close. It's like the show's moving in slow motion without him.
Last season, Lambert elevated other average singers looking to keep pace with him. Kris Allen, the show's eventual winner, got better every week, largely because he was trying to keep pace.
Maybe Paula Abdul knew something when she left the show. Maybe Simon Cowell knows something now.
A guy by the name of Alex Lambert was eliminated from the show last night. Similarities to the true Lambert? Zero.
Adam Lambert left the show long ago.
And by the looks and sound of it, American Idol will never be the same.

I said that last year !
"The problem is." "No one can top this."
S.C. he was right.
They need to bring Adam back soon to try and breathe some life into the program. The program may not make it until April 21st., when Adam is suppose to be on. Maybe as a mentor. Choose a song and be theatrical. Don't just stand and strum a quitar.
I agree with the above poster. Simon was right when he said "No one can top this".
As soon as I saw Adam sing and dance to Satisfaction last year, I knew American Idol would never be the same. He should have won, of course, and when he didn't, the show lost a bunch of fans and its credibility. Go Adam. I love every performance of Adam's from last year and was lucky enough to buy them from ITunes.
I watched Idol for the "grand total" of 15 minutes this year. Was so bored couldn't watch anymore. There won't be anymore Adam Lamberts.
I am thankful that Adam went through the Idol process and was given the chance to be himself. We might have missed out on this great performer.
The stars were aligned and he is emerging as a worldwide star.
American Idol will never be the same and I agree that it is completely boring this year.
I agree with all the comments.
