Love it!!! Already have watched it like 40 times and I can't stop watching it..I love the song anyway, and the video, just brings the song to life..I would Never Close My Eyes if I could watch Adam all day (-:
Love how Adam doesn't go where people expect him to go with his videos. Love the tealish background in this vid (very futuristic) and the splash of color at the end (not long enough!!). The only small detail of this video that I didn't particularly like was 'wide eyed Adam'. Love his eyes when natural, but that too wide eyed look, not so much.
JAK here........oooooo... I'm gonna be in trouble!... Sorry, didn't like it at all. Would rather have seen Adam singing and a collage like number of couples, hetero and homosexual, in background, walking hand in hand or in a modest clinch, showing the joy of love that makes you want to stay up all night just to be in each others arms. It's a romantic song, didn't seem to fit this scenario at all.
Love the song, I'll just skip the video. I also skip BTIKM, again I think it should have depicted a romantic relationship with it's rocky parts but deep and true love.
I like a video to be related to the lyrics and tell that story. JMO
Be kind...just consider me a senile old romantic.<3 <3 <3 <3
I agree - love the song, but not the video. It would of been more interesting if the band members were in it. On a good note, the album Trespassing is AMAZING !!!
The video for NCOE has only been out a short while, and already it is creating a discussion on other sites. I think people either like it or hate it at this point. Lots of symbolism to interpret along with the action of Adam and the others. I guess the lyrics just basicallly tell you to keep your eyes open to all the possibilities around you. Don't go through life with blinders on or accept conformity or the norm. Be true to yourself and your beliefs whenever possible. And I suppose this is pretty much life.
I feel sooo stupid cuz I just didn't get it. the music does not go with the video at all. visually it's great to look at and adam looks fab, of course, but why would he never want to close his eyes in that terrible environment? makes no sense. i hate to say this cuz i love, love, love my adam and i ADORE his new album, but this video just doesn't do it for me.
think about FYE videos. They were all about the song. Decadent sleazy club for FYE. Heartbreak in Whataya Want from me. A joyous romp in the woods for IIHY.
they made sense.
Adam is trying to be deep and symbolic, not near as entertaining. It's not that some of us don't get it, we just don't like it. Simple.
Love it - especially the dance parts and the color sequence at the end plus the movements. No sex nor naked big breasted/ass women clinging to men so probably wont be too popular with the general masses. And that last statement does not apply to the comments made above!!!!! I respect your opinions to not like it. . . . Adamluv
Never Close Our Eyes takes off from the idea that we should always be aware of the truth of our existence--that if we are in denial of reality, are have been deluded because of a self-imposed prison through our own or society's doing, we should wake up and never lose sight of the truth. As children we are so atuned to all the wondrous sights of the universe, but as we get older, we lose that wonderment. The video tells us to capture that lost vision and revel in all the colors of being awake and aware of our full existence. Love of self and others are what gets us there, so Adam bids us to live life to the fullest with our eyes wide open, and to rage against the dimming of the light, as there's time enough to sleep in the grave.

Adam Lambert Premieres Video for New Single "Never Close Our Eyes" [Review]
Adam Lambert perfectly balances style and substance in the freshly unveiled video for his new single "Never Close Our Eyes." Lambert makes a powerful statement in the video that goes way beyond the literal meaning of the song. In fact, the video neatly encapsulates Lambert's distinct brand of pop, which emphasizes the importance of individuality and self-expression no matter what other people say or think.
Set in a repressed Orwellian society, Lambert's video depicts a bleak, futuristic world with people being treated as slaves who must submit to a totalitarian regime that rules with an iron fist (and many watchful eyes). True to form, Lambert breaks out of the mold and sets off a firestorm of change that inspires others. He refuses to take his daily dose of mind-numbing medication and resists other brain-washing techniques to end up leading a colorful rebellion that crushes the status quo.
Fans will agree that even though it may seem that the scenes and storyline are taken from a fantastical sci-fi novel, the concept of the video is really not that far removed from Lambert's own world of experience. Despite the odds and the baseless skepticism from naysayers, Lambert defiantly stayed true to his point of view and artistic convictions. Now ruling the album charts with his new album "Trespassing," the pop star shows that people who patiently and passionately follow their instinct without compromise will ultimately win.

@12:49 PM Wow! I was somehow lost in the darkness of my mind that I missed all that. Thanks for the translation. :-)
Anywaaay,I'm in love The Voice and I love SF (Ketty Perry's ET is my last favorite. I think), but all I can think of right now is... Key of Awesome!! :-) I like the 'zombie' outfits. More in-sync dancing with Mr. A, please. I've always thought that dancing is somehow higher on his skills list than acting, somewhere near singing... and (small/deep) talking. HaHaHa. It seems that @arjanwrites (otherwise very... glam-embracing "thoughtful" human) can't see the forest from the trees. The "futuristic world" is very contemporary. Just look around you. Or look at me for that matter! I'm a product of "a repressed Orwellian society", "a totalitarian regime". Look at all of us! I mean, at our societies. You, the long time 'democratic ones', may or may not see the difference. We, the 'former communists', (might) have one point of reference more. It's brain-washing all around... So much fun!
GLb
PS: Btw, on my list, his best video is (still) his first video. I'm so damn conservative. A brain-washed ..Bert.
After reading the review glitzlady posted from @ arjanwrites, it reminded me a scene from ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S RPMcMurphy(Jack Nicholson inthe movie) leads the inmates at the asylum to rebel when they can't watch the baseball game. There, too, they line up to get their pills to keep them medicated and complacent, to follow the rules. RPM is the rebel(who really didn't belong there in the first place) and he leads the others into defiance of the rules and their eventual freedom . I know... too much analysis, but that is the English teacher in me. I like the video for NCOE, but not crazy about it. I don't know how it will go over esp. with all those young viewers who are so used to seeing half naked women gyrating around to a song with words that make no sense at all. Maybe if some of the younger generation did as Adam suggested and opened their eyes to all the possibilites around them, they could make a difference in their own lives and that of others.
Adam, we stay with you until we grow older and we Never Close Our Eyes. I love this video so much and I've been watching it over and over. Adam is brilliant artist.
Well you didn't expect something without true meaning did you? ADAM making a statement in a brilliant way indeed. This is out the box Adam and I love it!
I LOVE this video. This director has done some amazing work and Adam was smart to get him. I am so tired of the verbatim, couples gazing into each other's eyes, the band, and I love his interpretation. Adam is into many messages, not just the one about romantic love. Just my opinion. LOVE IT! Well done Adam!
Truly...that was a hot mess! The true meaning has basically been snuffed out. Why'd he go in this direction?? I love all other videos - think that's been a strength for him - but this looks sort of adolescent. I dunno, what the heck do i know.
@GLb Actually Arjan said exactly that: That this video, while set in a "repressed Orwellian society, Lambert's video depicts a bleak, futuristic world" , that "Fans will agree that even though it may seem that the scenes and storyline are taken from a fantastical sci-fi novel, the concept of the video is really not that far removed from Lambert's own world of experience."
Just some thoughts in general about the video:
As a "child" of the 60's and 70's, : )) I read all of the "1984", "Animal Farm" type books, have of course seen the movies "Logan's Run", "Soylent Green" which have some similarities to Adam's video , the movie mentioned above "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" ..and also read "The Hunger Games" and saw the movie, which is certainly another recent warning to us as a society not to become too complacent about what is happening around us. I do think many young people WILL get the idea behind the Music Video, as "The Hunger Games" is considered to be a "young adult" book and is of course HUGELY popular with teens. So this Music Video concept may work very well within that age demographic..and hoping every demographic as well. To not become brainwashed into accepting Big Brother's vision of what we "should" believe....and to have the courage to speak up to change it if need be..
Adam really does seem to have an "old soul", and has that 60's and 70's sensibility about him. A social conscience, with the innate courage to gently effect change, by being a positive example (even tho that isn't what he had in mind to begin with..but he is now becoming)...And a sense of living life to the fullest, with those you love. Because life is too short not to..
I really think Adam did a good job putting this video concept together, with what his budget probably allowed..He isn't to the level of Katy Perry or Lady Gaga where the sky's the limit for the vids. He is to be commended for giving us all something to think about, not just to watch...We certainly want to be entertained..but I appreciate his efforts to make it something more than that. He is a very special man and I hope he will ALWAYS go with his instincts about what he wants to say and how he wants to say it. Some will "get" it, some won't. I sincerely hope MOST will get it, because it will give me hope for the future. That we have an attention span long enough to follow a story, and learn something from it..while enjoying the music and the visuals. And I ALWAYS enjoy the visuals when Adam is involved... ; ))))
@JAK I really do understand what you're saying, a love-themed video with a variety of couples would be so beautiful but it seems Adam had other ideas for this one!! Perhaps one of his next singles will do something with that... I'm guessing he is just avoiding the whole LOVE thing for now...and wants each music video to be completely different..with that "twist" on the theme...I suspect Adam would love to do something really romantic and beautiful at some point, because he seems to be a rather "hopeless romantic" himself, but just isn't doing it yet...Someday......
ACTUALLY NEVER LIKE GAGAS VOCIE ANSD KATY PRRY A SAN ACTRESS THEYRE BOTH GOD BUT NOT A SINGER- ADMA LAMBERT THE REAL SINGER- ARTIST AND THE VOICE IS OUT OF THIS WORLD.
...And I should have mentioned above in my comment at 7:00 PM "seeing the beauty and possibilities" around us...the everyday things as well as the more spectacular..And not become immune to what we have..and what we can become..if we just open our eyes, and "Never Close Our Eyes" to those possibilities....
@Anon 7:04 PM I'm not sure if you're referring to my comment (since it came right after my comment..), but I hope you understand that I think Adam IS far above Gaga and Katy Perry in vocal ability (although they can both sing very well, especially Lady Gaga, given the right material...and I like them both..). What I did say was that Adam doesn't YET have the big budget that they do for his video productions...No reflection on his talent...Just monetary restrictions.....
Once again, Adam hits it out of the park by taking an obvious theme for a song and throwing it out the window. He comes up with an original concept and delivers it with style and charisma. He keeps us guessing and talking and analyzing. He's a walking, talking college course.
The artistry of this video is brilliant. I love watching it-and I'm not a big fan of sci-fi futuristic stuff.I wasn't sure why I kept wanting to watch it repeatedly {except,of course to see Adam.} Then I read the Rolling Stone review of the video-and it expressed what it makes me feel. The review even said it would make a great addition to the gallery of Top 10 videos of all time. Agree!!!!! Kinda reminds me of how I used to feel whenever I heard a new Dylan song. I didn't always know why it would touch my soul in the deepest way;I often didn't even understand the meaning of his lyrics {eg. Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands.}Nonetheless, I knew it would change me in some way-and it did. I love when an artist thinks DIFFERENTLY. That's what made Bob Dylan a poet for the ages, and I really believe this is one of the things that sets Adam apart from all the rest. A side note---I'm just finishing Isaacson's book on Steve Jobs. He, too,was an artist----and his theme for Apple was- THINK DIFFERENT......
I love this video! I never expected to be so inspired. Each time I watch I get more inspired to not let the consensus trance of conditioning from our culture and society lull me into closing my eyes. I am inspired by Adam to crush what it is feeding me to hold me and everyone down and release the colors of the rainbow so we can dance the unique individual lives we were meant to live. I love the message of alchemy - they didn't run from the grey, toxic gas of control -- they transformed it and used it's energy to become vibrant living open eyed beings.
I absolutely love it. The simple styling with everything done in lockstep has been done before. Anyone remember Hitler and what was done to the Jews...6 million of them? Too many people closed their eyes to what was happening around them. So NEVER CLOSE YOUR EYES! or EARS for that matter too.
Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant! Adam and the power of the purple cloud. He never drank the Koolaid and never lost sight of where he was going. Talk about taking a lyric and twisting it! I'm a happy camper. Bravo Adam. Thanks for the two quick shots of Terrance as well.
ADAM LAMBERT BREAKS FREE IN NEVER CLOSE OUR EYES VIDEO May 29th, 2012
Adam Lambert has released ONE OF THE BEST MUSIC VIDEOS OF 2012 with Never Close Our Eyes. The pop singer has created a mini movie with his music video, where Lambert and his peers are trapped in a totalitarian jail and force to spend their days swallowing pills, being subjected to laser eye scans and hard labour. Lambert and his fellow detainees take their chance to break free at the end of the song, with colourful results.
Taking inspiration from science fiction books and films like 1984, Brave New World and Gattaca, the impressive set, featuring futuristic furniture and machines, along with the washed out make up and clothing of the dancers fit perfectly with the video’s concept.
Adam was in studio on last night’s episode of New.Music.Live., where he co-hosted the entire hour along with host Lauren Toyota, who he spoke to about his new album Trespassing and the significance of the sophomore disc debuting at number one of the Billboard 200 charter. “Music doesn’t have an orientation, music doesn’t have a preference,” Adam explained. “Music is universal, we all love to dance, we all love to feel, and we all love to sing along to stuff. Doesn’t matter if you’re gay, straight, black, white, girl or boy.”
Adam Lambert Blinds With Science In “Never Close Our Eyes” Video By Lyndsey Parker | Reality Rocks
Adam Lambert has just pod-hatched his new sci-fi thriller video for "Never Close Our Eyes," and I imagine that if Duran Duran and Russell Mulcahy had had access to advanced technology (and access to RCA's advanced budgets) during their Seven & The Ragged Tiger video era, then their clips for "Union Of The Snake" and "Wild Boys" might've looked a little something like this. The future-shocking, body-rocking "NCOE" video opus is equal parts time machine and CGI machine--a sort of laboratory hybrid of '70s space odyssey, Mad Maxian '80s dystopia, '90s cyber-rave, and millennial dance party. And it's about as addictive as the little-blue-different mystery pills that Adam's ruggedly outfitted fellow cyborg-patients gobble up like Pacman pellets in the video's early scenes. Color me impressed (in various shades of science-blindingly bright neon, of course). This just might be Adam's best video yet. Clearly it is Lambert's brave new world now. We just live in it.
I love this video, and agree totally with other posts about the 'Oppressed Orwellian Society', it makes you sit and think and from what Adam has said this is what he likes to do to give people something to think about, a romantic video would be no different than all the rest, this new video of Adam's is unique and I think he needs to be given credit for his vision.
With vibes of a 'Lucas 60's' style concept THX 1138 I reckon the music video is bloody awesome! Adam and he's team have created an outstanding music video an I love it!
@glitzylady Point taken! You are the Royal Guard (and Records Keeper)of the 24/7 Citadel, my dear. Nothing escapes you. I take back my forest/tree part of my comment and leave the rest of it. Will you then allow me to stay around and mingle with the locals? :-)) GLb
@GLb Haha!! Of course you may!! Just had to point out that Arjan was "on point"..and nothing escapes him either... ; )) One of my favorite entertainment bloggers who has a special place in his heart (as we all do..) for Adam..and one who definitely "gets" Adam and had a perfect understanding of the video...
This video is much more "Brave New World" than Orwellian. Orwell's world has a 1940's dreary and Dickensian feel to it. In Brave New World the state manages people through their appetite for pleasure; the masses are tranquilized and casual sex is approved. The pursuit of happiness ensures minimal critical thinking and zero public unrest.
This is Adam's best video yet. The dancing at the end was unexpected and visually appealing, though I'm all for seeing more of Adam. The visuals run with the music; they don't upstage it.
There's no heavy meaning here either; just a twist on the meaning of the title. Kind of a relief. This music is supposed to be fun.
Love the video! Love the liberation! He brings colors to our lives. Terrance, soo nice to see. It´s something mixed bad romance and iihy, but truly own style. M
Adam does keep us on our toes and stepping on each others toes!
@ 6:43 pm You're so right, the video looks like a film school project, I'd grade it C-.
@ 12:13 am If a concept has to be explained, it has failed!
@11:35 You find a correlation between this video and the massacre of WWII Jews?
Who wants an Orwellian Love Song? Background music to slit your wrists?
Please quit talking about "getting it" as if it takes superior intellect. I get it! It's a dumb idea for a video for this song. Some of us just don't like it. Quit trying to explain it. We get it.
This is my favorite video to date!. I just love the concept and the movement and choreography. Oh yes Adam is really made For Our Entertainment. I will never stop loving Adam and his beauty and creativity! NEVER!!!!
@glitzylady O, my lady of the gates, thank you, thank you. (Although, I cannot promise I'll respect all the rules of the land. But you already know that.)
God! I love spiky things... and villain(esse)s. And I think I just fell for "May 30, 2012 5:57 AM"! My (negative) Hero(ine)!
"Back in the box". Quite a slogan, isn't it? Now I have to find an ecological cause or something and use that. Visual ecology! ("The description and analysis of an animal's natural optical environment in terms of the animal's visual system and the relationship of the environment, visual perception, and behavior". Yep, sounds just about right!
You see, that's why I come back here - to feed my mind on 24/7 saps! :-) GLb
The concept of this video was quite unexpected by many ... due to the lyrics everyone expected romance & lovers refusing to part but ... ADAM being ADAM certainly found a NEW meaning for the words. Let the others sing about romance ... ADAM always takes a different approach with his music ... re: If I Can't Have You on Idol. While everyone else was singing disco-esque songs ... ADAM took a classic & sang it like NOBODY else had EVER done. And he did it week after week to the delight of the audience & the judges. So why is it so difficult to accept his take on NCOE?? Yes ADAM is a romantic but he is also a REALIST & REALITY has been smacking him in the face most of his life. What we hear in the lyrics is a depiction of old-time 'moon in June' visuals but that's obviously NOT what ADAM hears. I don't think a love story video would go very far in today's music videos. (JMO) I think ADAM's NCOE is Brilliant!! I love the departure from the expected to the EYE OPENING UNEXPECTED!! BRAVO!! ADAM!! So PROUD to be a Glambert ...

And I ALWAYS enjoy the visuals when Adam is involved... ; ))))
@JAK
I really do understand what you're saying, a love-themed video with a variety of couples would be so beautiful but it seems Adam had other ideas for this one!!
@12:49 Beautifully stated.
@Anon 7:04 PM
I'm not sure if you're referring to my comment (since it came right after my comment..), but I hope you understand that I think Adam IS far above Gaga and Katy Perry in vocal ability (although they can both sing very well, especially Lady Gaga, given the right material...and I like them both..).

A SUPER review from Much Music....
ADAM LAMBERT BREAKS FREE IN NEVER CLOSE OUR EYES VIDEO
May 29th, 2012

Another GREAT review...
Adam Lambert Blinds With Science In “Never Close Our Eyes” Video
By Lyndsey Parker | Reality Rocks

I posted this up-thread but worried it might get lost amongst the fabulous reviews above, so here it is again...

Love the song,Adam's vocals,AND the video!
@glitzylady
Point taken! You are the Royal Guard (and Records Keeper)of the 24/7 Citadel, my dear. Nothing escapes you. I take back my forest/tree part of my comment and leave the rest of it. Will you then allow me to stay around and mingle with the locals?
:-))

@GLb
Haha!!
I could watch this many times (and I will).
We get it.
Yes, it's "out of the box".
Put it back!
This is my favorite video to date!. I just love the concept and the movement and choreography. Oh yes Adam is really made For Our Entertainment. I will never stop loving Adam and his beauty and creativity! NEVER!!!!
NEVER CLOSE OUR EYES PERHAPS BEST VIDEO OF THE EYAR 2012.
@glitzylady
O, my lady of the gates, thank you, thank you.
:-)

ADAM ALMBERT WILL PERFORM ON JULY 21?FANTASY SPRING JUST LIKE LAST TIME OMG NICE
