Adam, you're sooo cute in this performance like you do so many actions, some quite hilarious but some very nice. You seem a bit edgy and distracted; could be due to the new band and sound system. Not to worry, you look and sound absolutely magnificent! I must say the theatre's surround acoustics enhanced your voice especially the high notes. :) Lam-my
I don't think Adam looked 'a bit edgy and distracted'. I think he looked pumped and ready to roll! Great band and backing vocalists. All up, a FAB performance of the THREE songs he sang! :D
I agree with Lam-my - maybe he was tired? Also missing that fantastic guitar riff/lick thing that normally comes before "I ain't got BS in my...". 1:20 in this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkA1Rd3bO8U The UK-band stuck to the basic chords (which I totally understand) to me that means the performance lacked a certain something. Vocals were impeccable as ever.
Adam did a great job performing with a band and backup singers he was not familiar with at all. I would also guess that he did not have that much time to rehearse with them. Those sound issues are always distracting, but somehow he just overcomes it all and continues with those amazing vocals. I love his sophisticated look with the jacket, shirt and tie that I have seen him wearing in recent pictures and at this performance. I think England has discovered Adam Lambert and once his album and first single are released there, his international star status will have increased. Adam is conquering the world one country at a time with this new album and the songs he performs from it.
6:04 Thanks for the video. Yea very good, and huge attendance. Right, this is when he is in full stage control and more absorbed in the performance; rather than having to be constantly diverting his attention using signals. At one point, he even tried to signal with his leg, lol! But I like the surround echo of RAH; it amplifies Adam's voice and stretches his high notes to the maximum. His high notes sounded really glorious in the theatre. I like his tenor a lot too; actually all of him, lol! :) Lam-my
It can't be easy perfoming with a band you just met, in a country you have only played once before while trying to promote your album that is about to drop there.
His voice sounded FANTASTIC even though he had to direct the sound mix throughout the performances. He's too good! :)
@ 6:04 I have to say I think the Jimmy Kimmel performances have been some of his BEST! The way he looked, the way he sang, his energy, the way he performed ... perfect! I especially miss the unearthly wailing he did in the bridge of Broken English during the JK show. LOVED IT!! He tends to say "take it Tommy" during the bridge in his latest peformances of that song. (A little disappointing because I will take Adam's wailing over Tommy's rocking it out any day. Just saying.)
@10:39 I could listen to Adam sing all day as well - but a band that's good at filling all the "empty spaces" is important - even the best singers need small "breaks" so they don't strain their vocal cords too much. When you have a great band a concert can last more than an hour if you only have you voice to rely on and little stage banter your voice will typically feel the strain after 45-60 min(if you sing like Adam). Adam knows this... I'm sure that's why he has back up singers and a band that can entertain people in the breaks - they'll be a great help when he's doing back to back concerts.
STARS IN MY BLACK & BLUE SKY Excerpt from Thea Washington (a black fan of ADAM talking about his back-up singers)
One of the things I’ve always appreciated about ADAM is his understanding of real diversity. It’s one of the reasons I love him like I do. He gets it that diversity means so much more than ethnicity, gender or sexuality. It was great to see the broad spectrum of diversity so purposefully in action. No matter who you are, you’ll see something about yourself up on his stage.
For some of us who are black women, especially larger black women, and who don’t see a lot of ourselves reflected in the entertainment industry, it’s more gratifying than you can imagine. Not only does it show that somebody “sees” and accepts us, it says that our dreams can come true, too.
Lately there’ve been some questions and comments about the back-up singers ADAM has chosen. What most people think ties them (gospel singers) together is the ability to “bend” notes and do runs and riffs, the kind that we’ve sometimes heard from ADAM, some authentic enough to elicit “amens” and church waves during GNT.
Speaking of talent, we know ADAM wouldn’t allow anyone to support him in performance who didn’t “bring it” (church wave). I have no doubt that these women do and are able to closely mimic ADAM’s tones that we hear when he layers his own voice in recordings. Having them for live performances lets him improvise to his heart’s content knowing that the melody and harmony are being held vocally. And we’ve all heard him praise music that’s organic. Having a live background rather than a taped one may be part of what he means. I think he’d prefer to have the live one when he performs.
These women can obviously do that or ADAM wouldn’t have chosen them. Those fans lucky enough to see him live before tour time, when the rehearsing is completed and all the players get really comfortable with each other and everything is perfect, will hear it sooner.
Remember when the dancers were introduced into GNT? “Who are these people?” it was asked. “Why are they here?” “They take the focus away from ADAM.” Remember how long it took before we got to know and appreciate them and understand their role? How ADAM still—and will always—have our focused attention? This feels a lot like that, as if the back-up singers are trespassing into ADAM-land. We’ll get used to them, though, and hopefully reach the point where we can celebrate them just like we did the dancers.
So all this is my own, individualized response to the questions raised and comments made about the back-up singers. At the end of the day, it’s ADAM’s choice, right? I’ll trust he’s made a good one. And a sincere thank-you to the Universe that this beautiful, talented, wonderful man “gets it.”
"I must add that another black Glambert and I compared notes after the GNT concert we’d just attended, falling on each other as if long-lost sisters because we were so glad to see someone else like ourselves. We each admitted to an “amen” and a church wave at the same point during the concert and the looks of confusion we got when we looked around at other, non-black fans! Oh, well."
@10:57 I get that and I agree. Adam's band and back up singers ARE entertaining and will be a great assest to him in any upcoming tour. I'm just saying the wailing in Broken English is personally one of my favorite parts and I miss it when it is missing. (It reminds me a little of ROF which I loved.) :)
I was at the JKLive show and I agree with you that Adam's performance, vocals , stage presence, body moves, his interaction with the band and backup singers was one of his best performances live I've ever seen. ( I've seen him live 8 times) My jaw dropped, I stopped breathing and I said to my friends who were with me that the whole world needs to see and hear Adam perform this song. It was that amazing. BTW, ,ROF on AI was one of my all time favs too!
Thea, I love your perspective as a black fan of Adam. I don't really know how many black fans he has, but he seems to reach many demographics. I have loved his back-up singers from Day One, and I think they will become an integral part of the performances. They add depth and interest to the arrangements. They are pros who know how to adapt to lots of styles, and they seem to genuinely like and respect Adam. They add that certain edge. I hope they are with him for his next tour. As we know, tour performances grow and change as the tour progresses. We learned that from GNT. The early shows were a lot differenct from the later ones! It's 1like a story unfolding. Thanks!
Thanks for the excerpt fom Thea Washington. Do you have a link to where it is from?
The background singers do create structure to the songs that allow Adam to improvise or vary the vocals as we know he likes to do.
I thought the same thing as she mentions about the initial response to the dancers - people complained and doubted a lot at first. One of early performances with the dancers that people complained about was at the G-A-Y Club in London where he is playing again tonight.
I went back to listen to ADAM's performance at Jimmy Kimmel of Trespassing. You can clearly hear why he chose these back-up singers when he goes low on some lines and the back-up singers maintain the melody. It's seamless. P-E-R-F-E-C-T !!!
Wow... the best of 8 live performances! I can't even imagine what it must have been like to be there in the audience soaking up that energy!! I'm sure you will remember that night forever as will other the other lucky audience members. I'm a little jealous and I'm not the jealous type. ;) Can't wait until he tours... the world is in for a treat! (and I can't imagine that he wouldn't have his back up singers with him)
@12:15 because it's not OUR life it's his. If Adam wants everyone to know Sauli is coming to London - fine he'l tell us. Until then let them enjoy their relationship
The TRESPASSING vid from Royal Albert Hall posted by KISS AND TELL on Ytube (also at the end of this vid) was the best vid ... IMO. Much clearer visually & vocally ... JS
I keep voting at Billboard's and just vote for Adam then submit. i don't bother with the Sexiest Female so it's faster and can hit more. Let's give this to Adam who is very deserving. LAMBERT not Levine, excuse me.
Our Adam by far deserves sexiest male in music! Eveyone go vote!
Also... vote for Adam as the "Must Follow Artist on Twitter". (You know that his favorite "playground" and he's so good to his followers with his "twitter parties"!) Here's the link: www.omusicawards.com/vote/must-follow-artist-on-twitter
So lovely to watch these HD videos - it gives so much more if the sound is clear and you can see Adam's face when he's singing... Thanks for those who use their ability to shot and make these videos and share them with us. Just think the time before internet - how much more we get now. Before the only way was to watch official music videos and go to concerts yourself... Just fan clubs, not fan sites.
Right now there's a great show going on in London G-A-Y I believe :) Wish I was there.
@Anon 10:40 AM , 12:39 PM Really?? I agree that its Adam's private life, but he does share his feelings about this love for Sauli. I think its up to each fan as to how they enjoy being a fan..and if we wish to celebrate Adam and Sauli's relationship in a respectful way, then I think its okay. Sauli is a sweetheart and a lovely human being too, and their relationship has added so much love and "balance" to Adam's life, and I think its rather hard to dismiss or ignore that. But you have every right to do whatever you wish.. I just think its a little presumptuous to tell others they can't mention Sauli's name here. I'll continue to do so, if you don't mind. Thanks. : ))
I am ALL about Adam but occasionally its hard to ignore the relationships in his life. Adam is immensely proud of Sauli and if he didn't want us to mention him or appreciate his place in Adam's life, then he wouldn't say his name out loud in public or acknowledge his existence in his interviews. I thank the Universe for the day that Adam met Sauli, because it has made Adam so very happy and it shows. Pretty hard to ignore that. I think the only "rules" here in this blog are that we respect each other and Adam...That works for me.....
Adam says he doesn't see the need for catergorising everything into genres since a good song is a good song. Same with race, a good musician and good music is just that and it transcends race, geography, gender, orientation and all that.
Looking at Adam's friends and inner circle they are such an interesting, talented, eclectic and diverse group of people and it just shows the type of open minded person Adam is...one of the many reasons I love him!!!
For the person wanting wailing every time he does Broken English, he needs to conserve his voice so if its not a major gig he can do without it...I also enjoyed BE on Jimmy Kimmel but I understand why he doesn't do it all the time. Though Tommy needs to up his guitar playing because so far he has not impressed me at all with the riff though with practice he will get better.
Hope when I wake up there will be video from G.A.Y. :)
glitylady, Thanks for reading my thoughts once again. Who says we can't post info about Sauli on this site? Adam shares things about Sauli when he wants to, and he is proud of Sauli. As a fan, I am very interested in Adam's private life, too. It comes with really caring about him as a performer and a person. I sure don't think Adam is obligated to tell us any more than he wants to, but many of us are eager to hear about the two of them as a couple. Adam appears with Sauli in public, holding hands, etc. I love this aspect of Adam's life. Sauli is not off-limits as far as I'm concerned.
Speaking of Sauli, I wonder if he'll be joining Adam in London? Oops! Am I allowed to "wonder" about that? LOL!
Broken English would have been great at Rah. I don't like Trespassing song very much. I do like Pharrell songs, but mostly his collaboration with Snoop Dogg.
Just a comment or two about Sauli. Whatever we know about him and it isn't that much, has come from Adam. I don't believe Sauli has ever been interviewed or said anything about his relationship with Adam. Correct me if I am wrong. They do appear in public together, hold hands and you can see the love in Adam's face when he looks at Sauli. No one knows what the future will bring for them, but for now Adam is focusing on his career and his personal life has to take a step back perhaps for a short time. As they say, "absence makes the heart grow fonder".
I think it depends on who you are as to how much we know about Sauli. Some know a fair amount, that he won Big Brother Finland, and as a result there are a few interviews, and a lot of vids out there on you tube. Others just know that he is Adam's partner. Sauli has never been interviewed in the US about Adam, or anything else (he actually just said that in an interview in Finland when asked that question..) ..although I'm wondering if there will be an interview in his upcoming FAULT magazine feature. He has talked about Adam a little bit in an interview or two in Finland in the past. But only in generalities, no intimate details, and that's as it should be. He has talked a little bit about how they met, etc. and occasionally when he has accompanied Adam to an event..He has a personal blog that he might mention Adam a little bit from time to time, although usually not by name, and in his "Hollywood" blog as well, but usually not.
I have learned enough about Sauli to know that if I were to meet him and to get to know him (which obviously will not happen..) that I believe I would like him as a person. Adam is fortunate to have met someone who seems to be enough of his own person and has his own interests that their relationship might have a good chance of enduring the difficulties of having a long-distance relationship with Adam on the road these days. It takes a special person to be able to do that..And vice versa....
It also seems that Sauli will most likely be with Adam at least for part of the time Adam is overseas in Europe. He said in a blog today that he will be in Finland for a "few weeks" at most, then will be going to "Europe" until at least "mid-summer". And he said beyond that he wasn't sure of his (Sauli's) schedule. So that's where the speculation that Sauli may be in London now came from...although no one knows really, which is just fine..
I don't think I saw this RAH view posted here. Interesting view seemingly from the rigging (can't decide if that's the most expensive seat or cheapest seat LOL) but you can see how much direction Adam is giving regarding sound issues. Why is it so hard to get the sound right? Especially in a place like RAH? And all the boot stomping - is somebody off rhythm? And yet from the other videos you can't tell all of this is going on.
JAK here.....Adam and Sauli come from similar loving family backgrounds, that's a plus in a relationship. That plus a sensual sizzle makes for a pretty good combination and that seems to be obvious. Que sera sera....out of our control and none of our business!
Who cares where Tommy is? He is never never ever going to be an adequate guitarist for the star that Adam is becoming day by day. Too bad Slash isn't available, but then, he wouldn't play POP!
I for one miss Tommy and the regular band members. These guys have a more mainstream look, but the mix sounded clunky. Prefer his own band.
I'm also getting tired of hearing about Sauli. They're together, they're happy, that's great. But since when do we have to hear quite so much about the partners of musicians? Especially ones who don't seem to do much more than pose for the cameras and follow their rock star partner around the world?
Would rather keep the focus on Adam and his music.
@6:29 we have to admit defeat. 24 7 has been invaded by people who are desperate to talk about Sauli - why they come here is my big question - doesn't Sauli have a blog or something where you can go all fan-girl?

Adam, you're sooo cute in this performance like you do so many actions, some quite hilarious but some very nice. You seem a bit edgy and distracted; could be due to the new band and sound system. Not to worry, you look and sound absolutely magnificent! I must say the theatre's surround acoustics enhanced your voice especially the high notes. :)

Adam's live vocals just popped a balloon. Yea, he's that good.
Adam was BRILLIANT at the RAH!! It was all about HIS voice & that's the way it should always be.
Great! Hope will attract more UK fans.

Oh, and by the way..I just heard on Twitter that Sauli is at G-A-Y nightclub tonight... no pics yet..Adam is halfway through his 6 song set....
He didn't sing Broken English at G-A-Y.. :/
I don't care how much the Americans love the Trespassing song, but I don't think it will be a hit here in Europe.

Cuckoo was awesome at g-a-y, from twitvid. The Uk backing band did a good job, quite nice-looking blokes too.
And you can see little kids rocking out too :)

JAK here.....Adam and Sauli come from similar loving family backgrounds, that's a plus in a relationship. That plus a sensual sizzle makes for a pretty good combination and that seems to be obvious. Que sera sera....out of our control and none of our business!
Where's Tommy and the singers?
R

PURRfectly M-E-O-W-ed, ICON!!!
At least I hope it's You...
