Remove the breath, her melodious lament !! HH

I love this performance so much. 2:28. I don't understand your post. Please explain.

It's painfully beautiful for me.

Yeah , I miss that Adam :( , the current Adam doesn't even look like him at all ; so quiet and serious !

@HH 2:28
Exactly!
So touching...

@HH 2:28 PM
I agree! This leaves me breathless too...

Rihanna sings it from her point of view as she wants her abusive lover to stay cause she still loves him and that's where her lament in her song comes from.

Whereas Adam's interpretation comes from two lovers have their differences but there isn't any turmoil in their relationship. Don't feel the lament, just saddness.

I love Adam's interpretation of this song a lot.

He sang that for Sauli ;(

2:50 you must not have seen his silly ice water does the body good Ig then.

5:30, we don't know why Adam sang that song or if it was "for" anybody. Your winky sad face seems to be saying you know that.

JAK here....I've bookmarked the Stay + Underneath performance in Nagoya....and watch it way too often to admit.

Every time I've happened to hear Rihanna sing this (shopping mall, cafeteria etc) my mind goes "what's missing from this song?!" Then I realize: ADAM's VOICE!
Rihanna's voice is so cold and monotonous, no tone... and Adam's voice is... you know, ADAM's VOICE! Words fail me.

A friend told me it's Sauli's namesday today (Finnish calendar) and tomorrow is his BD, so YAY for Sauli!

Happy Birthday 2morow, Sunshine!

Anonymous said...

Yes, tomorrow is Sauli's birthday, I am surprised he is already back in LA. I thought he would stay in Finland til after his BD. Might be he has some appointments to keep.

Yes, the Stay/Underneath performance is simply exquisite. Perfect. I wish we could have heard him sing Underneath more often. I hope when a tour does happen, he will include it in the setlist. The song's melody and lyrics are heart-wrenching.

Forgot to say Happy Birthday, Sauli!

I love Underneath more than Stay. With a huge budget support that Rihanna has ofcourse Stay became a huge single.

Hooked on Adam's voice
It has a defined quality
That thrills, kills, trills
Like the nightingale
Only this one doesn't sing off-key
Queenbert will be a bonanza
Brian, Roger and Adam
Create a new-found unique fandom
A trilogy of its own identity
Watching above...Freddie Mercury
When Adam sings: There goes my baby...
Sooo sexy...jerking out his voice
As he struts the catwalk weaving in and out
Elegant, yet a matter of purity, simplicity
Everyone goes crazy lol!
So I ask again...what's in this voice so intriguing
Perhaps sexual in nature; reaches, touches humanity
Grammy should include...Best Voice & Range
And that belongs to Adam, undoubtedly

I love Adam's beautiful, heartfelt version of "Stay". He sang it with much more emotion and feeling than Rihanna did.

So beautiful. I much prefer it to the original. Similarly, U2's "One" - Adam's version is incredible - so exquisite it brings me to tears.

Anonymous said...

"One" was one of the few songs where I thought he didn't do the original justice. Definitely not one of my favs.

Anonymous said...

Just wondering does anyone think this tour with Queen and the additional dates might be more straining on his voice than on the Glam tour?

Anonymous said...

Love love love Adam's Stay. His voice suits this song so well.

I'm not a fan of U2 but I LOVE Adam's rendition of One. His recorded version is PERFECTO!

9:58 PM, the GNT tour was probably more stressful in terms of being substantially longer, night after night, with sleeping on a bus. Adam worked with a vocal coach then and could again. Adam also has the experience from the 6 Europe and London shows now. I'm sure he knows what he needs to do to not strain his voice. I'm sure the set list will be constructed around his abilities. No worries.

@9:58pm I was wondering about the same thing couple of days ago. All top notch professional basketball players have their own physical trainers, assistant coaches, and doctors looking after their physical well being before hitting basketball court. IMO he needs a vocal coach and a doctor as well to be taken care of.

I used to listen to U2 One on constant replay before getting to know Adam and I think Adam did a good job. Loved second half of his Idol live performance and his studio recording too.

An exquisite and heart wrenching performance,
Adam. I just love it so much. I've watched it many times and wish the whole world could hear this beautiful voice.

I have to admit Adam didn't outdo U2 on One. It was just OK.

I'm sure Adam, Brian and Roger will all see that Adam's voice is well taken care of. This is part of their jobs.

10:30 PM
I read words to the effect in an interview with Brian and Roger that they would tailor the songs at the performances as needs be to accommodate Adam's voice. Very kind and considerate. :)

11:51, not just kind and considerate but smart and standard operating procedure.

When Adam performs with Queen, I notice his confidence and sense of security a bit more; like at the back of his mind he knows his well-being is taken care of every step of the way. So he throws any anxiety to the wind; resulting in impeccable singing of Queen songs. His genuine enjoyment too shows through; case in point...when he split his pants, he was so thrilled, almost childlike. Also the way he tries to coincide his last note and hand gesture with Roger's final bang on his drum. He even kowtowed to Brian...enjoying his theatric roots; at the same time showing his respect and gratitude.

It is hard to listen to a song after Adam covers it..he always does it so perfectly...love him and his amazing voice

Anonymous said...

It is such an emotional performance. It was beautiful and so fleeting.

Anonymous said...

4:29, I agree. When I listen to Adam do a cover, the original is never quite as a good to me. Not always, but most of the time. He just takes a song and makes it his own, regardless of how good the original was. My standards for vocal quality have been raised much higher since Adam. Some singers who I used to think were SO good don't sound as good anymore. I still like them, but their voices just don't impress me like they used to. I do enjoy lots of vocal styles, though, including those that don't require a technically good voice. Adam just sets the bar so high, it leaves many other singers in the dust.

Love this performance, I have always felt he was singing Stay to Sauli, so much emotion, so much sadness.
And I love Adams version of one, never listen to U2....

Adam looks absolutely breathtaking and beautiful right now. Such a gorgeous man with the most beautiful soul; and those
"Eyes Baby Eyes"!!!!

I have often commented that someone in the music world should pick Adam to sing a duet as we have heard a number of them lately from other performers. But for whatever the reasons, it just hasn't happened on anyone's album. Could it be that no one wants to record with the best vocal talent in music today because Adam just might outshine them. He and Angie Miller did an amazing job on Idol with Titanium and he let her shine by not outsinging her at all. It seems that with all the covers that Adam has done, he just performs it so much better and he could have had a hit song with it as did the person who released it originally. Hopefully with the third album he will have hit singles from it and no one will mention covers again.

To HK fan: I also love Adam's version of ONE. It's one of my favorite performances from him on IDOL. In fact when I heard Bono's version on the radio not too long ago, I hardly recognized the song since Adam singing it is the only one that really matters to me.

Anonymous said...

U2's original version is better. One of the few times Adam didn't do a better job.

Anonymous said...

The reviews when Adam did One on American Idol all said that it wasn't one of his better performances.

Anonymous said...

I love Adam's One version and don't really listen to U2.
I remember Adam saying when he learned Simon chose One for him that he doesn't know the song but said, "Game on!"
And I remember Simon gloating over his rendition to his co-judges then.

Anonymous said...

Not an U2 fan at all but also think their version was better.

THIS thread and this vid of THIS song cannot end with a Tommy ad, sorry!
