QUEEN members Brian May and Roger Taylor have admitted that their current collaboration with "American Idol" season eight finalist Adam Lambert is a better fit than their previous involvement with legendary rock singer Paul Rodgers.
In 2008, May and Taylor, who had been touring with Rodgers as QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS, released the chart bomb, "The Cosmos Rocks", before calling it a day as a trio and a recording entity — despite a string of globally sold-out concerts.
"Paul has one of the greatest rock voices but it's more blues- and soul-orientated I would have thought," Taylor told the Toronto Sun. "I would say, with all due respect to Paul, that Adam is more suited to a lot of our material and whereas we had great tours with Paul, I think Adam is more naturally at home with us." May concurred and added that Lambert's remarkable range and flamboyant stage presence are much more in line with those of QUEEN's original singer, Freddie Mercury. "Yeah, I think the styles match more closely in a sense," May said. "But we had a great time with Paul, no doubt about it, and it kind of stretched it to a new place and, I think, a thoroughly good experience. But Adam is really… Like us, he has many, many colors, so we can explore some of those strange excursions that QUEEN likes to."
QUEEN's 24-date North American tour with Lambert kicks off on June 19 at Chicago's United Center and winds down on July 28 at Toronto, Ontario's Air Canada Centre.
"It's surreal," Lambert told the Toronto Sun about performing with QUEEN. "Having auditioned with 'Bohemian Rhapsody' on 'American Idol', and this weird full-circle gorgeous dream come true. When we did our first [tour] run, like giving a full set, it was definitely was intimidating. The idea that I would be in front of QUEEN die-hard fans and I was taking on a large chunk of the catalogue and it was a short time to put it together. And we did it and I think it turned out really, really beautifully, and then when the Vegas thing happened [September 2013 appearance at the iHeartRadio Festival], I feel like it really grounded itself a little bit more."
The threesome first shared the stage during "American Idol" in May 2009 for a performance of "We Are The Champions". They teamed up again in 2011 at the MTV European Music Awards in Belfast, Ireland for an electrifying eight-minute finale of "The Show Must Go On", "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions" and in the summer of 2012, Lambert performed a series of shows with QUEEN across Europe as well as dates in Russia, Ukraine and Poland. They also performed three sold-out gigs at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.

Watch the Queen + Paul on YouTube. It's a joke. Adam is a billion times better with Queen
They're best together!!!
Not this old chestnut AGAIN - we've heard it soooooooo many time.
I think Brian and Roger are courteous and also grateful to Paul Rogers. I watched a couple of his videos...yes beautiful voice no doubt about that, but singing/music is a lot more than that. Brian puts it succinctly: "Adam is really… Like us, he has many, many colors, so we can explore some of those strange excursions that QUEEN likes to."
Okay, I'll just say it more boldly and realistically, with no intention of disrespect...Adam is a great deal more talented and handsome. lwl!

No duh.
QueenBert convoy rumbles and trundles
All ready to entertain Glamberts in large numbers
With heightened anticipation for Adam to fire
His brilliant tenor to do the honours
Of showcasing Queen songs in grandeur
Brian and Roger treat Adam like their son
This convoy of trucks, their itinerant home
With preparations meticulous to the bone
Will take them across countries and towns
Their wheels of fortune turning round and round
To deliver their once-in-lifetime exclusive sound
Who Wants To Live Forever
Mmm, at this stage of his prime, Adam might... lwl!
My favourite, I Want To Break Free
So sexy, what will be, will be
As Adam gives his all...more Adam more
Even Brian can't restrain his tears
Roger will be all eyes and ears
For Adam to signal that mighty bang! from the rear
So rumble on QueenBert...truck and roll...
The Show Must Go On...come rain or shine
QueenBert climbs the glambert vine, intertwined...

Not a fan but I feel sorry for Paul Rodgers because this keeps being rehashed and rehashed. Enough already. How would we feel if the same were said about Adam?
Lam-my, you are on a roll tonight with your verse. Very enjoyable and descriptive of the upcoming concerts. I am getting so excited for the Vegas shows-I can hardly contain myself. You will be there in spirit for sure, I know. Margarita Lady
Hello Margarita Lady!
Yes, I will be with you in Las Vegas, in spirit...as I've told you, I've been there, in all its glorious neon lights blinking non-stop and so it makes it more real, need to hear your firsthand reports for authenticity. When I saw the trucks, the poem just rolled out like the trucks lol! Nice to hear from you now and again. Thank you!

No need to be rude. They are just totally different type of singers and performers.
Of course Brian and Roger are going to praise Adam to the max in the lead-up to the concert tour and rightly so! It's fantastic publicity for both Adam and Queen. Likewise, they may have also praised Paul Rodgers highly, in the lead-up to the concerts they did with him. Let's just revel in this wonderful "Once In A Lifetime" QAL concert tour
Adam Lambert no one can compare to his vocals. And must I say he is very handsome. And he has such a great personality. People like him.
Adam has many , many colors said Brian . . .Oh Honey we have known this for a long time . .so talented in many ways!!!
The relationship with Adam is on totally different level than Queen with Freddie and Queen with Paul. Paul's original comment was Adam couldn't be ready to do a tour. Famous last words.
@8:24PM- I watched several of the vids of Paul Rodgers with Queen and there is no comparison to Adam's vocal talent and stage presence. Adam is the perfect singer to perform with Queen. We all realize no one can take Freddie's place, and Adam brings his amazing voice and mesmerizing personality to each song. If watching the other vids of Adam with Queen from their past appearances together is an indication of what to expect, I think everyone will be captivated by Adam's interpretation of the songs.
No need for comparisons indeed!
Every human being is different. Also talentwise and professionally. Plus chemistry between people working together is crucial! No brainer to see & hear why QAL works!!!
Adam truly is unique in today's music business in so many ways!
Just for curiosity, I watched the videos of...The Show Must Go On, sung by the 4 singers with Queen. It made me realise it's not an easy song to sing due to the context and emotion required to bring out the poignancy of the song; as this was Freddie's swan song; in fact he never made it to perform it on stage. He left his legacy in a studio recorded video; still powerful but it lacerated his voice, as reported. Adam understood that very deeply and we can feel that, in his version of The Show Must Go On, especially in his fierce high notes, reminiscent of someone fighting for one's life.
